FYI, the director of Grl Gvng is the same guy who directed Howling and Woke Up. His name is Cho Gi-seok, a popular surrealist artist in South Korea. He is mainly a photographer by trade and the reason why this video is too short is because it was mostly experimental, not simply because they didn’t have the budget (XGalX after all is owned by a major company in Japan) . And as you can see, he went all out when he directed Woke Up and doubled down when he did Howling.

I would love to see your reaction to the dance practice! Both for the second verse but also because the choreography for this one is really good, some of my fave choreo from them. They have ASL (American Sign Language) incorporated into this choreography. Grl Gvng (Girl Gang) was short because of budget most people suspect but it's the only video where they've done that. Hesonoo & X-Gene are an introductory track to their first mini album called "New DNA" so those were never meant to be long in the first place. They are only intros but I do agree that I would LOVE a full track. XG will always be in space because their concept is that they are alien wolves. That's why they are always referencing being in a "pack" or "howling" and so on. That's also why their fandom is called Alphaz, because the Alpha is the leader of the wolf pack so XG is saying that the people who are their fans are always leaders of the pack. Many Asian Pop groups have concepts that they follow but not all of them. XG's concept is a pretty big part of their message and their visuals. If you watch the behind-the-scenes videos for every music video (they have a playlist of behind-the-scenes content called Xtra XG) the girls often explain exactly what message they are trying to portray with the visuals and the song. There's always a sort of storyline connecting things. Their first mini album "New DNA" starts with Hesonoo & X-Gene which is them waking up in space on their spaceship from hibernation. Then they start exploring and finding new worlds and learning how to act in the new places they go. Grl Gvng is the third song on the mini album right after Hesonoo & X-Gene and it's supposed to be them landing on their first planet and kind of giving a wake-up call like "We're here, we're ready to start and we're gonna be ourselves and shake things up!!" kind of stuff. Grl Gvng is the prelude to Woke Up while Hesonoo & X-Gene is a prelude to Howling. Grl Gvng music video was cut short due to the production cost as you can see but their dance practice video is the whole song with choreography. Their dance practices are basically base performances for their live shows. At this point the whole concept of XG is being Alien Wolves that crosses boundaries and breaking stereotypes. Existing outside of culture and reaching for the stars where there are no limits.

That’s why their music sounds so authentic. I can’t wait for you to check out their cover of Flo’s ‘Losing You’ and ‘In The Rain’. Both have that true 90s R&B vibe. ‘Losing You’ is part 6 of their ‘Vox’ series of videos that spotlights the members of their vocal line (Chisa, Juria, and Hinata) I think ‘In The Rain’ is their best R&B track thus far. I am really enjoying your XG journey as it mirrors mine when I discovered them Dec 2023 and just like you I am not into Kpop but love XG. And also mascara was not at the top of the list but after listening to their songs over and over again it grew on me some. But there is so much more to discover with XG so enjoy your rabbit hole. XG feels like my favorite group period.

So this music video was intentionally shortened at the time of production and this MV was their first video getting into their new concept. I am loving your reactions Dre even the rants. Heseno and X-Gene were intros to their first mini-album, combined for the performance video. This, 👆🏾, was an attention grabber. Made you look and now you wanna stay. What you said was almost ERRBODY'S reaction. Simon was a K-Pop artist and knows exactly what he's doing. GOAT for real! These babies trained for years together, elimination-style, just to make it to the final group and were raised on old school hip-hop. And as someone said before on this video, galactic alien wolves. XG are not of this planet. "Left to take another planet!" Sienna Lalau, The Lab Studios, creates most of their choreography. I think there's one she didn't do but they're so good who can tell. ❤

Describing XG genre is like what people tend to do when you have a “Christian rapper” His belief shouldn’t change his classification. He’s a rapper ie: XG is hip hop / is rap / is R&B / is Pop. They just happen to be Asian. I love that they created their own lane XPop to set themselves apart from Kpop Jpop etc. but to me they are simply artists who can do any style. They even have a rock remix of Shooting Star they do live in concert.
To this day one of my all-time favorite songs by them (full version). Up there with Tippy Toes (their debut) too. Polite smack talk and positive message while flexing with swag. "GRL GVNG" is supposed to mean "GIRL GANG". They are "out of this world" hence the alien/supernatural theme in their vids. Full song dance practice version shows their skills and ability to sync up. Switch up of the singer as they deliver their verses. Something people miss with their dance routines is they are actually singing when they do these routines live. Probably budget limit since they were so new and not popular.
What makes XG so different for me is that there is no one out shines the other. If you look at groups there usually one that stands out above more then to others. NSYNC had Justin, Destiny’s Child had Beyoncé, hell even Wu Tang had Method Man. XG pass the ball around so effortlessly that they all shine. If it wasn’t for the video- half the time I wouldn’t know who’s singing. Chisa, Juria and Hinata will sing different parts of one line flawlessly. I recommend checking out Undefeated next. I'm with you 💯 about XG. You can teach a dancer a choreography and rapper/singer to rap/sing but how they deliver it is what sets it apart. To be able to grasp the aura of the culture is something u can't teach. I know these girls did half a decade of training, Simon and Xgalx did an incredible job selecting XG members. He wasn't just looking for talent, he was also looking for passion, resilience, humility, and most of all their compatibility/chemistry (balance). I love your honest take on XG and u hit the nail when u said 'soul' - they have it as individuals and see & hear it as a group when they dance and harmonize. So going with the basketball theme, since XG are newish but on the path to GOATdom, they would be like the Wemby (Victor Wembayama) of the current music scene: young, can do it all (dribble, shoot 3’s, rebound, block). Throw out their first 2 debut year tracks Tippy Toes and Mascara. Their real breakout run started with Shooting Star and Left Right. With Girl GVNG (Girl Gang), they started to work with Cheogi Sok and other Asian design and art icons and Simon and Chancellor expanded their production resources. They often went to Atlanta and LA to work with hip hop and R&B producers. This is all in their documentary detailing their auditions and years of training in Korea and Japan.

The XG Vox tapes feature the 3 vocalists Hinata, Chisa, and Juria. And the Moves Tapes feature Each individually do dance moves.

Regarding the length of the m/v, as many others bfr me already said, is only half of the song, mainly because they simply couldn't afford the costs to make a full 1 at that quality, at least not at that time (check the dance performance, it has the full 3 min song & is one their best choreos to date) . Funny everything you said can be said about Baekhyun of EXO, he is ingrained in R&B and Soul. I would love to see your reaction to the dance practice! Both for the second verse but also because the choreography for this one is really good, some of my fave choreo from them. They have ASL (American Sign Language) incorporated into this choreography. Grl Gvng (Girl Gang) was short because of budget most people suspect but it's the only video where they've done that. Hesonoo & X-Gene are an introductory track to their first mini album called "New DNA" so those were never meant to be long in the first place. They are only intros but I do agree that I would LOVE a full track.
XG will always be in space because their concept is that they are alien wolves. That's why they are always referencing being in a "pack" or "howling" and so on. That's also why their fandom is called Alphaz, because the Alpha is the leader of the wolf pack so XG is saying that the people who are their fans are always leaders of the pack. Many Asian Pop groups have concepts that they follow but not all of them. XG's concept is a pretty big part of their message and their visuals. If you watch the behind-the-scenes videos for every music video (they have a playlist of behind-the-scenes content called Xtra XG) the girls often explain exactly what message they are trying to portray with the visuals and the song. There's always a sort of storyline connecting things. Their first mini album "New DNA" starts with Hesonoo & X-Gene which is them waking up in space on their spaceship from hibernation. Then they start exploring and finding new worlds and learning how to act in the new places they go. Grl Gvng is the third song on the mini album right after Hesonoo & X-Gene and it's supposed to be them landing on their first planet and kind of giving a wake-up call like "We're here, we're ready to start and we're gonna be ourselves and shake things up!!" kind of stuff.

They have an entire "Xtra XG" series that is behind the scenes of music videos, concerts, performances, and music shows. Then they have the "XG Days" which are vlog-style videos. These mainly focus on non-work trips like the girls going Disneyland or members' birthday parties and things like that. Often, each member will have their own camera to vlog whatever adventure they're on and the video will show their different perspectives, that's just more fun relaxed content for fans really. The last thing is the "Xtra Xtra Documentary" which also has a playlist on their TH-cam channel and those are full documentary episodes going back to 2018/2019 and showing the girls during their five-year training period before they debuted.
Sorry for the long comment but I also want to recommend that you watch the test videos for the Galz Xypher. The one you already reacted to with the rap line (Jurin, Harvey, Maya, and Cocona). I recommend it because I think they're super overlooked. I remember you mentioned that yes their swag comes through in the music videos but can they really do it live? I feel like the test videos give you that more live/raw energy. It's just each of the girls in a black room, rapping their verse like a practice session. R&B is my favourite genre ever and I love a lot of hip-hop too. I grew up listening to both with friends and family but while there is a certain connection among various types of black culture, not all black culture is the same and I know that R&B and Hip-hop culture isn't my culture as a Caribbean person so it's nice to get that perspective from someone who's deeply ingrained in it. You always articulate your thoughts really well too! You seem to be a great communicator, at least from these videos.

They definitely heard the feedback about the MV not being the whole song - it was one of the times that Simon ended up issuing a statement about what the thinking was behind doing it that way - but I think everyone recommends watching the dance practice for this one because the choreography is great and you get the whole song.
They have their own category called “X-Pop”, which is a culmination of modern K-Pop and 90’s hip hop.

Grl Gvng is the prelude to Woke Up while Hesonoo & X-Gene is a prelude to Howling. Grl Gvng music video was cut short due to the production cost as you can see but their dance practice video is the whole song with choreography. Their dance practices are basically base performances for their live shows. At this point the whole concept of XG is being Alien Wolves that crosses boundaries and breaking stereotypes. Existing outside of culture and reaching for the stars where there are no limits.

I am really enjoying your XG journey as it mirrors mine when I discovered them Dec 2023 and just like you I am not into Kpop but love XG. And also mascara was not at the top of the list but after listening to their songs over and over again it grew on me some. But there is so much more to discover with XG so enjoy your rabbit hole. XG feels like my favorite group period.

Made you look and now you wanna stay. What you said was almost ERRBODY'S reaction. Simon was a K-Pop artist and knows exactly what he's doing. GOAT for real! These babies trained for years together, elimination-style, just to make it to the final group and were raised on old school hip-hop. And as someone said before on this video, galactic alien wolves. XG are not of this planet. "Left to take another planet!" Sienna Lalau, The Lab Studios, creates most of their choreography. I think there's one she didn't do but they're so good who can tell. ❤

Describing XG genre is like what people tend to do when you have a “Christian rapper” His belief shouldn’t change his classification. He’s a rapper ie: XG is hip hop / is rap / is R&B / is Pop. They just happen to be Asian. I love that they created their own lane XPop to set themselves apart from Kpop Jpop etc. but to me they are simply artists who can do any style. They even have a rock remix of Shooting Star they do live in concert.
To this day one of my all-time favorite songs by them (full version). Up there with Tippy Toes (their debut) too. Polite smack talk and positive message while flexing with swag.

Something people miss with their dance routines is they are actually singing when they do these routines live. They can't get smoked going all out when their next line is up. Looks better when they are all costumed up.
Agree 100% they messed up not doing a full M/V with the crazy theme and wild graphics. Probably budget limit since they were so new and not popular.
They gave you a delicious meal to taste and pulls the plate away when you're just beginning to devour it.
What makes XG so different for me is that there is no one out shines the other. If you look at groups there usually one that stands out above more then to others. NSYNC had Justin, Destiny’s Child had Beyoncé, hell even Wu Tang had Method Man. XG pass the ball around so effortlessly that they all shine. If it wasn’t for the video- half the time I wouldn’t know who’s singing. Chisa, Juria and Hinata will sing different parts of one line flawlessly. I recommend checking out Undefeated next. I'm with you 💯 about XG. You can teach a dancer a choreography and rapper/singer to rap/sing but how they deliver it is what sets it apart. To be able to grasp the aura of the culture is something u can't teach. I know these girls did half a decade of training, Simon and Xgalx did an incredible job selecting XG members. He wasn't just looking for talent, he was also looking for passion, resilience, humility, and most of all their compatibility/chemistry (balance). I love your honest take on XG and u hit the nail when u said 'soul' - they have it as individuals and see & hear it as a group when they dance and harmonize. If u take a deeper dive, watch their documentary, xtra vlogs, and read their blog, u will see their spirit. They're so insightful, supportive of each other, and goofy/fun.

So going with the basketball theme, since XG are newish but on the path to GOATdom, they would be like the Wemby (Victor Wembayama) of the current music scene: young, can do it all (dribble, shoot 3’s, rebound, block). Throw out their first 2 debut year tracks Tippy Toes and Mascara. Their real breakout run started with Shooting Star and Left Right. With Girl GVNG (Girl Gang), they started to work with Cheogi Sok and other Asian design and art icons and Simon and Chancellor expanded their production resources. They often went to Atlanta and LA to work with hip hop and R&B producers. This is all in their documentary detailing their auditions and years of training in Korea and Japan.

The XG Vox tapes feature the 3 vocalists Hinata, Chisa, and Juria. And the Moves Tapes feature Each individually do dance moves.
He was somewhat OK with New Dance. Out of group releases Undefeated is probably be the only thing he will love and TGIF would be the only other one he would actively dislike.

Is not "Girl Giving", is "Girl Gang", they replaced the "a" with a "v", for the swag🤣. Regarding the length of the m/v, as many others bfr me already said, is only half of the song, mainly because they simply couldn't afford the costs to make a full 1 at that quality, at least not at that time (check the dance performance, it has the full 3 min song & is one their best choreos to date) . And look at them now, with "Howling", which in my humble opinion, is the best m/v i've seen in the last 20 years, easily.

Funny everything you said can be said about Baekhyun of EXO, he is ingrained in R&B and Soul. His IG and Weverse lives are fill with him singing Beyonce, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson, Boyz II Men, etc. He literally just posted his cover of Snooze by SZA and has talked about wanting to collab with her. Ngl I cringed at the groups u mentioned, to get ur feel of Kpop cuz quite frankly they were a poor representation of what encompasses Kpop. In fact it makes me enjoy the groups i like even more so because they are "about that life'". To make something that can mix genres but stay true to the foundation in which they were inspired from.
