In my mind, XG is the epitome of the perfect blend of east meets west. You get the vocals and rapping skills known from western artists with the work ethic and amazing artistry of the east to make the absolutely PERFECT combination. The fact that they pay homage to the creators before them plus the current styles/culture make them unique and globally attractive. This type of talent across the board is unique and should be appreciated for the beauty that it is.
I hope Simon hears your initial monologue. I think he’ll appreciate it. He’s Japanese/Korean, raised in the West coast. He has an amazing instinct to work with amazing talents in creating the songs, creating the choreographies and creating imaginative music videos. The difference with him and other producers is that he includes the XG members into the whole process. Aside from creating stars, he’s providing invaluable life and career skills for the girls. Their future looks bright.
THIS! This comment needs to be broadcast everywhere, especially for people hating on him so hard for being so ‘close’ to them! Such a rare fine in the entire industry!
Jurin has this magnetic quality to her that just draws you in. And she has this inate swag and then with her vocal quality as well, she is the perfect starter for their tracks and she sets the tone and flow for the rest of the members coming in after. This is why jurin became my bias because she just scratches this itch in my brain that I can’t explain hahahhahahha
May this video, this introduction, this react and so many others that OG is doing be posted, included in some next mashup and may this react serve as a heritage for everyone to see the respect and maturity of someone speaking with authority about trying to get to know new groups, recognizing them, being totally kind and honest in his words and above all, being more living proof, a true lover of HipHop/R&B who fell in love with XG for everything the group is, and for us it is an honor and a great pleasure to watch your videos Mr. OG. I appreciate it. 🫵🏾🫰🏻❤️
Hesonoo is unbiblical cord in Japanese and it’s also their pre-concert group saying before they go on stage. These are the intro to their first mini album New DNA in 2023 which then led into Girl GVNG (Girl Gang) and also featured TGIF, New Dance and Puppet Show. OG Dre is becoming one of my fav reactors up there with Differentky Alike and KaiatheSafeCave. He has already identified the uniqueness of XG and it’s great to experience his journey through his observations and insights
Thankful for you articulating the difference we feel when watching XG vs Kpop from a westerner perspective. There is definitely a difference and you nailed it. Keep digging into the rabbit hole, love your reactions!
at first i was like... is it just another reactor trying to jump onto XG for the views and just glaze all over the songs? this guy seems legit interested in XG while naming the members correctly and able to tell the differences and give good insight about them. now thats what i am talking about. i salute you. good reaction!
OG, you are so honest and it’s so appreciated… I’m not sure if you know Simon’s story… but he is from mixed family- Japanese and Korean, but he was raised or spent a long time in USA… as a fan of 1990s and 2000s hip hop, rap and he’s been very up front about his love of music that came up from black culture… so the way they’ve been trained in English, in tone and dance … is no accident. I commented previously about my sense that Cocona emanates soul, but it seems like you are applying this to the group… without appropriation per se. But this guy as a producer is about trying to leverage the best that American music had to offer… and taking it to another level. Keep being you.
OG, what you’re saying about XG learning down to even the smallest details when it comes to their performance makes me believe that you would sincerely enjoy their “Xtra Xtra” documentary series. These girls were hungry to succeed. I would absolutely love to see you watch it. It starts with “Episode XX”, and then it goes into episode 1. Thank you for appreciating our girls❤🐺
Yeah I believe he’ll watch it on his own time. Watching them go through that trauma gives a whole different perspective on everything. Makes you genuinely so proud of them looking at what they became.
what i get from is XG in terms of swag or being cool, just feels natural, when I see other groups doing something similar, I always picture someone from their team standing there telling them to act swaggy - Juria has been singng since she was 10, early on her mom told her she had a perfect voice for R&B and she should focus on that - that tells me a lot about her and the group in general, their vibe is legit
JURIA is for me XG’s R & B QUEEN 👸🏼. I LOVE HER SOLO’s during the WORLD TOUR. Her and CHISA actually made me cry 😭 and I’m old. I’ve heard it all I thought. I love these Xtraordinary Girls. 👍🏽♥️🐺
@@stephanieallangarman5598 they grew so much on this world tour, it’s perfect timing before doing Cochella, before this tour, they had done only 3 US shows, now with so many shows on tour, they will really be ready to kill it, I think it will be epic
Hell yeah bro, when I was younger I heard Year of the Ox - 7 Rings ... and I was in AWE.... Even more so fast-forward to now and I realized they write some for XG (Woke Up, etc.), and you can definitely see the connection in the bars and word-play, it's amazing. Simon really pulls the best from every direction, and created a super group, with super support. Loved your video, OG, thank you for your honest opinions and responses. It's cherished in the overflowing reactor community filled with dishonesty! I feel the same way about Kpop, (though I used to be a big fan pre-XG).... It's not BAD at all, it's just not FOR ME any longer.
Get on your soapbox OG!! The real deal feel XG exudes is indeed unique. Kpop is full of talent for sure, the authenticity factor is not as common. Glad to see that you did give other artists a shot and agreed XG is one of a kind.
Love the analysis on kpop and hiphop. As an Asian man growing up in south Atlanta, I completely agree with you. You just can't make up urban culture and make us like you. XG doesn't feel formulaic. Folks love them because of their intent, hits in the beat, those micro expressions. It feels authentic.
This was the intro to their album New DNA. Its the vision of XG's future. The start if you notice they were in fetal position and their hearts started beating. Like a baby in a womb. To me its about their birth into this world having what they call the X-gene. And the space theme to me is because they're talent is out of this world. Cant wait to see what they have for 2025. Oh and did you notice they were blind folded in the beginning.
Wait until you hear and react to "In the Rain.' There's no music video yet, but the vocals will send you back in time at the very first note. It's so good, it might just be your biggest problem yet! P.s. you set the standard for distinguishing kpop vs XG! Love your keen, real, and honest reactions. you quickly became my favorite reactor to XG.
You say what Harvey says - “work work work so perfect that it hurts” - imo they get that swag from knowing they put in all the work and then some extra work on top. I’m so glad you found XG lol, so many of us are enjoying this journey with you so thanks.
harveys voice on this song is just so ughhh so great. the tone of her voice is so beautiful i hate that people diss her about it. the way she said “cosmic stunt fear who none” was like silk 😂lmao “i have a thing for when they get in that line” me too.
The space thing comes from the original name of their label. It was called XGalaxy, but they shortened it to XGALX. So the alien part of their concept comes from them coming from XGalaxyX and since Shooting Stars every video has had some aspects of them being alien. Also the fact that they are so different from anything that they are almost alien to the music industry.
19:05 So one of the things you learn when you get into Kpop is that every group has a "concept" Some are very broad and simple like "girl crush" but some can be more detailed and involved with actual lore and characters. My fave example is the guy group EXO, they all had different superpowers(also alien in origin i think) and they had a running story line throughout all thier music videos that had to do with that. Its a very Kpop thing because there are SO many groups that try and debut they have to be able to stick out somehow. Since Simon wanted to make this group using that same Kpop system, he and the girls decided together that thier concept would be "intergalactic alien werewolves". If you watch thier videos in order, you will see that are slowly gaining "powers" more weird stuff happens and shows up, thier looks get a little more wild and colorful ect until we get to Howling where they are fully awake and not here to play lol I think its part of why Kpop is so popular, they know how to hook fans and make an environment for the fans to interact with and really get to know thier idols!
If you're familiar with X-MEN (The Marvel comic characters), they have the DNA that grants them superpowers and makes them Xtraordinary - which is X-GENE. HESONOO is the Japanese term for umbilical cord (they are connected as one), hence their chant or war cry if you must before they perform on stage. Hope this helps. Tysm for the XG love. 🔥😎🔥
spot on reaction can’t think of anything to comment I peep new details every time I follow reactors first watch to Hesono X-GENE mv. love Chisa twirl as she comes on with her vocals. Juria’s face as always too 🐿️like. Hinata expression in the front few seconds into the intro as everyone tugs down their blindfold. Jurin catches a blind old thrown in the air during this time too. Many more things I find eye candy
These two tracks are considered intros to their first album "new DNA" and openers to their first few concerts (which are amazing). The word "Hesonoo" is umbilical cord in Japanese and their pre-performance chant. These tracks intro to GRL GVNG (girl Gang). With GRL Gvng there are 3 videos you have to react to in sequence, the official MV, the dance practice, then the ASL version. Otherwise you won't get the full effect of the song.
You really need to watch their documentary one day when you have time to see their dancing during training days. They look like pros dancing all their lives.
HESONOO is In Japanese, it means umbilical cord, and there were many members who formed the group XG. As many trainees were eliminated one by one, one woman who had been the leader was dropped. These are the words she entrusted to the group XG. These are precious words that were left as proof that all the members have always been together. I am really happy to watch your TH-cam. Because, as you say, these girls were not raised in America, but the fact that they are highly regarded by real Americans has convinced me that I was not wrong to like them.
XG cousins- One or Eight - Kawasaki Feat. Big Sean. Intro song to a new Boy Group version of XG or new gen changing asian pop? Hesonoo (Japanese for umbilical cord, metaphor for being connected through birth) X-Gene ( New DNA, X-Genome for woman, XG) Video starts with alien birth and ends with a DNA strand. The reason this song is so short is because it's an introduction track to their mini-Album. Similar to how Clik Clak was an intro to Drip from BabyMonster. What sets XG apart from K-pop is their fusion of not only American Hip Hop/ R&B, but They also fuse their own culture along with other cultures western and eastern for that global sound.
Hesonoo in Japanese means Umbilical Cord. So Hesonoo is the intro to the mini album and X-Gene is the actual song. So combined is basically the Birth of XG and how genetically they are different. Hence X-Gene. Simon (Their producer and mentor) has gone way beyond the box and brought some of the most amazing people to work with these ladies, Sienna Lalau and crew who are absolutely amazing to work with their choreo. Has worked with many Hip Hop, and RnB producers. Just astounding what these ladies can do. And the concept is that they are from outter space. lol and it's something that they have stuck with, so all their videos connect to that concept.
Loved the reaction again - I hope Maya runs across your quote about her singing in Winter Without You - they have been known to watch TH-cam reactions. Hesono o means "umbilical cord" in Japanese, but for XG, in particular, it speaks of the bond that they feel between the group members (and even some of the other trainees who didn't end up as part of XG). Jurin was quoted in Billboard as saying "We express the relationship between the seven of us as ‘Hesono O’ in Japanese. It represents a connection that continues and symbolizes a family tied by an umbilical cord"
I really appreciate your explanation of how you found Kpop, just like the rest of us old heads I think you really understand why we are so invested in XG❤
XG is the epitome of what every K-Pop, Western Pop, RnB and Hip-Hop artist wants to be. Flawless 💯💪🏾 Can't wait to watch the progression and growth. Hopefully they all will have solo or duo projects like Wu-Tang Clan. I also see them in movies.
Another great reaction OG. Also, its good to see where you're at in your current journey into apop. Would love to see your reaction to cocona and jurin nothing. I think you'd like it.
I grew up in da Bay and I am your age OG. I appreciate XG for their music and swag. It brings me back to the 90s early 2000 vibe. I grew with Mac Dre E40, Too Short and a bunch of Bay Area legends. I feel you
I believe that Hesonoo means umbilical cord. The X-Gene in marvel comics is what gives mutants their powers. XG is saying they were born different. You see evidence in most of their videos that they have superpowers.
Good point about the appropriation and appreciation of the culture. Eminem is actually different from most. He actually grew up in the culture and was on the battle rap circuit before getting a deal. XG will definitely have haters. Purist will be the most critical.
Thank you man. No truer words can be spoken. XG and their team have to soak themselves in true hip hop, black culture and train really hard to give those soulful performances. And I believe they did it with appreciation, given how they always express their appreciation for black artists and name their inspirations, and how they actually listen to iconic hip hop songs old and new.
It makes so much more sense when you learn the word Hesonoo means umbilical. I'm also not particularly fussed with the K-POP genre as a whole. There are some stand-outs like LISA's songs (from Blackpink, solo). 2NE1 is an older K-POP group that introduced me to the genre I still enjoy that song "I am tha best". But I love the 90's feel and joy XG give. The ladies have spent most of their training time listening to 90's and 2000's rap so that's how they get their joy from it. Their dance trainers and choreographers are almost all American and every single one of those females has an innate grace to their dance, as you said, or at the very least Cocona and Jurin have it. I paused your vid to go watch Year of the Ox and while they're obviously not like XG in appearance or style I see what you mean. Old school beats.
Great listening to your take on XG & kpop in general. I'm quite a few yrs older than you sir and totally agree with you. The influence, I believe, also comes from Simon Jakops & his knowledge, in the authenticity of XG's music. Love your reactions, keep doing you sir & we Alphaz will be here for it 💖👑🐺
I personally believe XG brought a trend to the whole K-pop industry to make songs in English or even more appealing songs to western people in general.
We been telling you XG is DIFFERENT! Lol! But honestly, I love your insight. And I agree that X-GENE is too short. Such a fire track. Some random facts: Jurin is the group leader, which is why a lot of the choreo typically centers her (for example, the end of HOWLING), but at the end of X-GENE they are in age order. Might have something to do with HESONOO meaning “umbilical cord” in Japanese but I’m not sure if that’s relevant. You can tell it influenced the connective nature of the choreo, though. XG is way too good. I’m not certain you’ll love the other singles since they dabble in way different genres, but you’ll like some of the tapes. Be forewarned: Some of the styling tries hard to be hip hop but the rapping is respectable.
XG is all about paying homage to the past/current artists that inspired them. Its one of the many things that set them apart. 😊😊 When you get a chance to hear Coconas dirt off your shoulder its a perfect example of this
I understand that it's short but me coming from a time when most of my favorite albums had preludes, interludes, and skits I understood when I heard the whole mini album. These are the first two songs on the album, so Hesonoo is basically a prelude skit leading into an album and group intro with X-GENE which then leads into GRL GVNG.
Straight up! Hesonoo means umbilical cord in Japanese. Agreed - Jurin is always a beast starting off. Watch again and see how jurin catches the sash from juria. Dope ass shit as XG and you always do.
You got two songs in one. Hesonoo was the intro their first Mini album New DNA (similar to what Howl was for their second mini album Awe) then X-Gene was the title track to New DNA just like Howling was for Awe. Great reaction by the way.
Great reaction brother. I also appreciate the descriptive you gave of what differentiates XG from the rest of the pack. I just subscribed to your channel so keep the insight coming.
I was waiting for you to react to this and knowing how short this video is and saw your reaction was 28 minutes, I was like “how is that possible”? Then you started by saying you were gonna get on a soap box. So glad I didn’t skip to the reaction. You hit it!! I’m not sure if swaggerly is a word but it’s a great description of them. lol. I actually do like some K-pop but I don’t put them in the same genre. They are different and being a gen-x’r myself, I like that they are bringing back the 90s R&B vibe. You need to react to the Vocal lines cover of Losing You. Mind blowing especially with how much you liked Winter Without You.
OG . .. you hit it right on the nail with what sets XG apart from the other girl groups . .this is what my thought was from the get go, so thank you for putting it out there . . .. much appreciated!! XG is 🔥
Wow! I felt the same way about K-pop. I also tried but couldn't connect with any "K-pop" groups. It's funny, I discovered XG through another Japanese girl group called Atarashi Gakko (AG). I was on an AG Facebook group, and someone had mentioned XG. At first, I wasn't going to look them up (XG) because I thought they were K-pop, but I later searched on TH-cam and found their video, "Shooting Star - The First Take". That's when I fell down that XG rabbit hole.
It’s cool that you’ve figured out what you like and don’t like in the Asian Pop scene. You’ve always been respectful about it and you gave Kpop an honest attempt at trying it out, which is a lot more than most reactors can say. Personally, I believe XG is the most talented and overall enjoyable group right now, but I still adore Black Pink. We can like several things at the same time, and I hope everyone realizes that.
'77 here. Long time hiphop head. Even though I am from Poland HH culture came to us with satellite dishes from the early '90. Yo! MTV Raps was the reason I started to learn English. :) I love XG, do not care about the rest. Girls from XG has one of the producers coming from Atlanta so now you know why it is that good. Bigg up!
Yeah I made the suggestion and I'm glad he actually did listen and give feedback so salute. YOX is one of my favorite groups and I found them through researching XG's writers and producers.
ALPHAZ ON DECK 🐺🐺🐺OG reacts again. Very nice. I think it's fantastic how detailed your work is. The girls deserve all the attention you can give them. If you really want to start at the roots, you should definitely watch the EXTRA EXTRA documentary series. Yes, it takes time but it's definitely worth it. Afterwards you'll see the girls with different eyes. After so much tears and sacrifice, they more than deserve every success There are the MOVE# videos from XG. Here you can see particularly well how they feel the music. They are all smooth and bring their very own style with them
Man!! I keep watching this review over and over....I love the connection you make to those great Devas! It's sad that it seems fewer and fewer younger generations develop a connection to that time and music which really is the foundation for all pop music today. I thank you for making that connection for the young generations who might go looking for Mahalia Jackson and Aretha now that you made that connection, and for reminding the us older generation of that truth. Cant wait for your next one!
Appreciate your honesty. I respect that. Yeah, these girls are just different. It is refreshing after so much present day rap/hip-hop which all sounds the same (I sound like an old fart!). I also appreciate how these young ladies do it with class and don’t degrade themselves with lyrics or how they dress and “twerk”. Something young girls can listen to and watch. By the way, you may enjoy reacting or just watching their TH-cam documentaries called “XTRA XTRA”. Shows how hard they worked.
🙌🙌all of this!!! XG has it, thank you for articulating what I feel when I watch and hear them. They’re in their own lane and I’m here for it🔥🐺just some lore for you…they’re an alien wolf pack-that’s why they’re in space❤
Finally a reactor articulately conveys the difference between Kpop (in general) & XG. Thank you OG! Great reaction as usual. Love these girls.

spot on reaction can’t think of anything to comment
I peep new details every time I follow reactors first watch to Hesono X-GENE mv. love Chisa twirl as she comes on with her vocals. Juria’s face as always too 🐿️like. Hinata expression in the front few seconds into the intro as everyone tugs down their blindfold. Jurin catches a blind old thrown in the air during this time too. Many more things I find eye candy
Thank u for reacting to this video. It's one of my favorites.
My pleasure!!
Totally agreed with you on the "Swag" part. It's really a quality attribute of XG
When u called Baby Monster BAD MONKEY I was cracking uppp 😂😂😂I'm 100% an Alpha tho.
I swear it wasn't on purpose!
It was funny it's fine. what group were you talking about at 13:30?
@@sulena8823 from his description I think he was talking about the Ate That video by Young Posse.
@@OGReacts-w2oesta bien, soy fan de babymonster. Pero realmente aprecio tu honestidad y transparencia.
OMG LMAOO and here I thought, "That's a band I haven't heard of yet. Is he talking about Monkey Majik?" 🤣🤣🤣
Watching this dude slide down the XG rabbit hole is hilarious.
Hesonoo = umbilical cord
Song = being born and connected as one hence 7 = 1 in the lyrics
Great reaction keep em coming my guy
Thank you
@OGReacts-w2o your welcome
XGene & Hesonoo are intros of XG'S MiniEp New DNA. Hesonoo means umbilical cord.
This happens to be the first video that I saw from XG, hooked in under a minute 😂
You know the artist has something going for it when the reaction video takes 28 minutes to react to a 2 1/2 minute video!
It’s a ten min reaction first 18 mins has nothing to do with xg
😅🙅♂️
lol
the 18 actually had everything to do with XG
@@deano1943has Everything to do with them!
You a real one OG. Never change.
That line 🤣 you definitely have to be aware when they get into that line!
Right!!
I really appreciate your explanation of how you found Kpop, just like the rest of us old heads I think you really understand why we are so invested in XG❤
pack of 7 equal 1. That line shows their bond. They got no ego in this group.
X-GENE is that one song that I always say should be like a minute longer, Coco hitting the grr adlib when Harvey is rapping hits so hard for me
Thanks
No problem
I grew up in da Bay and I am your age OG. I appreciate XG for their music and swag. It brings me back to the 90s early 2000 vibe. I grew with Mac Dre E40, Too Short and a bunch of
Bay Area legends. I feel you
🔥
Absolutly, same here
I believe that Hesonoo means umbilical cord. The X-Gene in marvel comics is what gives mutants their powers. XG is saying they were born different. You see evidence in most of their videos that they have superpowers.
This is one of my favorite XG's songs.
What a great reaction!!
XG don’t “do” Hiphop, they “are” Hiphop. Tape 3B prove it.
I agree with u 100%
Good point about the appropriation and appreciation of the culture. Eminem is actually different from most. He actually grew up in the culture and was on the battle rap circuit before getting a deal. XG will definitely have haters. Purist will be the most critical.
XGALX is nourishing the XG members to become artists on global scale. Really looking forward to the future.
year of the ox Jaeyoung is the one who writes many of XG's raps
Just some of Woke Up and Howling rap parts.. I don't think they've written anything else, for now.. I met Jaeyoung at the ATL concert..
just watched your whole xg journey lol… gotta put you on to the vocal lines cover of FLOs “losing you”
Thank you man.
XG ain’t new to this, they true to this
Great listening to your take on XG & kpop in general.
When you get a chance to hear Coconas dirt off your shoulder its a perfect example of this
Well said
I understand that it's short but me coming from a time when most of my favorite albums had preludes, interludes, and skits I understood when I heard the whole mini album. These are the first two songs on the album, so Hesonoo is basically a prelude skit leading into an album and group intro with X-GENE which then leads into GRL GVNG.
💯
Jurin is the leader for a reason OG, man I love XG my fav girl group of all time Idc what anyone say
Amen 🙏
I’m really thankful for what you said that’s really great to hear such compliment toward the girls they deserve more recognition!
Straight up! Hesonoo means umbilical cord in Japanese. Agreed - Jurin is always a beast starting off. Watch again and see how jurin catches the sash from juria. Dope ass shit as XG and you always do.
Your breakdown in the beginning is perfect!
I recommend reaction XG tape 1,tape 2,tape 3A,tape 3B , tape 4 solo maya, harvey, cocona, jurin
That's one of my fav songs besides Woke Up and Howling.
I appreciate it!
"A set it off spirit!" 😂😂 I'm stealing that!
Absolutely! OG's words are really a declaration of love to the group and I can only agree with them 100%
OG . .. you hit it right on the nail with what sets XG apart from the other girl groups . .this is what my thought was from the get go, so thank you for putting it out there . . .. much appreciated!! XG is 🔥
💯
That's the one!
AG is hilarious. I love them.
I totally agree with you!
This is really an intro into their song Girl Gang
First ALPHAZ!!! Yas!!! Do you thang OG!!!
These songs were short because they were the intro to their new album last year.
'77 here. Long time hiphop head. Even though I am from Poland HH culture came to us with satellite dishes from the early '90. Yo! MTV Raps was the reason I started to learn English. :)
I love XG, do not care about the rest. Girls from XG has one of the producers coming from Atlanta so now you know why it is that good. Bigg up!
Not sure if someone suggested or you found naturally, but Year Of The Ox are ghost writers for XG's Woke Up and Howling.
korean or jap or from other?
Makes sense
He means writers. Not ghost writers :)@@OGReacts-w2o they dont "hide" their writers.
Yeah I made the suggestion and I'm glad he actually did listen and give feedback so salute. YOX is one of my favorite groups and I found them through researching XG's writers and producers.
@@firavun8943 hahaha fair point. Just so used saying ghost writers 😅
After so much tears and sacrifice, they more than deserve every success
There are the MOVE# videos from XG.
Thank you
I love and admire how you explain everything..and truly just the way you said it. It is spot on. MUCH RESPECT FOR YOU OG
wish I could like and bump this video a bajillion times :D
I appreciate that
Yes, too short, but served its purpose to explain their bond.
This is elite level stuff these girls are the new wave
