    And she also only skied back to Camp 4, then the Lhotse Face later on. Davo skied from the summit to Basecamp in one go! He also 'jumped' the Hillary Step (incredible eh! Ang Dorjee Sherpa, who was with him on the climb, verified this) whereas Kit's team all took their skis off and were lowered down it. Davo also managed to ski around the Khumbu icefall by skiing above it to the true right, which is very dangerous terrain.

    @Neffstradamus You are wrong. Davo is the only one to completely ski it. He skied it from the summit and never took his skis off. He skied from the summit to base camp in only 5 hours.

    Karnicar was the first to ski from the summit of Everest, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't the first to ski from the "Seven Summits" (highest on each continent). I think Kit Deslauriers, a woman, completed them all about a month before Karnicar.

    Anyone know where this movie is available ? Supposedly the Everest ski descent video was streamed live via strategically placed cameras on the route and a head-mounted camera but have never seen actual footage or read blog posts of anyone who saw that ski descent from the Summit to Advanced Base Camp , supposedly took 5 hours..would appreciate knowing where one can acquire the video

    I think about 3 people have skiied from the summit now, they pretty much rappel down the step, but they keep their ski's on, so its considered continuous. Obviously you can't go down either face from the peak. So they go summit ridge standard route, abseil down the Hillary step, ski to the balcony and eventually down the Lhotse face.

    Actually, there are not the first to do the 7 summit in skiing, it's a girl the first one : Kit DesLauriers. She was the first to ski the 7 summit in skiing the Mt Everest on the 18th october 2006... This guys skiing the last one of the 7 on the 10th november 2006. Sorry guys !
    And the Mont Kosciuszko in Australia is not really the higgest peak in Oceania, Puncak Jaya is the higgest. Off course the Puncak Jaya is not skiable so it's maybe the reason. But the Mt Cook is higger than the Mont Kosciuszko so they should did this one to say we skied the 7 skiable summit...

      @boyidrski 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      "Other skiers, including Kit DesLauriers, managed to ski only sections of the descent or were either assisted by rappelling or carried their skis on foot across the cruxes of the route.".

    • @rippinrogers
      @rippinrogers 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kit didnt even carry her own skis on multiple peaks of the 7 summits. Not discrediting her feat, but its not even in the same league. No sherpas carrying your equipment, and no abseils. Its night and day.

    • @cyrilfaure1622
      @cyrilfaure1622 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you : its not the same league and I prefer what Davo did but dond't say something wrong : Davo used O2 and sherpa on Everest...

    • @hrsteri9873
      @hrsteri9873 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Cyril Faure He made the first ever complete ski descent down the 7 summits. Kit did not make complete descents (without removing her skis) from Everest and Denali. Davo did not remove his skis the entire way to base camp on all 7 summits.

  • @faerthen
    @faerthen 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay, fair enough. Point taken about art reviews :) But I disagree that Kit publicized her descent any more than any of the other Everest skiers. And I'd be very, very surprised to learn that Karnicar carried all his stuff up that mountain without any assistance. As far as I know, only Goran Kropp can really claim that.

  • @faerthen
    @faerthen 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    And that's about what Kropp did, from sea-level to summit & back to sea level, albeit on feet & bicycle, not skis. While I certainly don't doubt that Davo did what he says he did, I wonder if he actually broke his own trail, climbed alone, fixed his own ropes, & stocked his own base & high camps, that's all. Doesn't take away from his accomplishment. But the fact that this isn't questioned of Davo, while Kit's style gets picked remorselessly apart is what annoyed me enough to comment.

    I have no skill nor physiology to climb K2 or any other technical 8000. If of any interest, my next summit should be Aconcagua and in future I'd like to try something in Pamir or possibly a Himalayan 7000+. That is most likely all I will be ever able to do if at all. OK, I admit, secretly I am looking at some "easy" 8000 like Cho Oyu or Broad Peak but a man has to be honest with himself...

  • @seahog32
    @seahog32 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    You sure have your point but it isn't quite the same. Oxygen, unlike goretex for example, is used internally and that's why can be considered a performance-enhancing drug. As long as mountain climbing is a sport and not a job, IMHO it should be avoided except of medical emergencies.
    And you are perfectly right about the fixed ropes and Sherpas. As the 70's brought climbing with no artificial oxygen, trend of the 80's was light alpine style, also abandoned since Himalayism has become a business.

    Oxygen has been a part of Everest ascents since they began in the 1920s, however the argument is often that this technology provides an unfair advantage to the climber. Interestingly, vast improvements in mountaineering gear have not met with similar disdain. If it is a fair fight that is sought, pitting mountain vs. climber, then abandon your jumars, cramp-ons, fixed ropes, pitons, ice screws, ice axes, synthetic fabrics, climbing partners, porters, sherpas etc. etc. etc

  • @seahog32
    @seahog32 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    Climbing Everest with artificial oxygen is like...well, like climbing Cho-oyu. It still is a 8000 but it isn't 8848. Sorry, it is a shame the way high altitude mountaineering went since 1970's.
    On the skiing part, Davo, you're sick! You do things i can't even think of without soiling myself. You are my God and I'm unworthy to touch your skis!

  • @faerthen

    if it s not possible to do it, then it should stay like that, if it is possible only for the extraordinary few, then it should be left for those...the same logic should apply to every sport...why not handing oxygen mask to the guys in tour the france ?...btw, try to compare numbers of deadly accidents on everest with and without artificial oxygen before labeling one of them as "suicidal"

    serious? this guy went all the way to the peak of mt. everest and skied all the way back down? people can barely get to teh top let alone up and back down on skis

  • @faerthen
    @faerthen 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    gunnermac70, There's more than a bit of an anti-chick vibe in these comments. No one here is dissing Granheim, Kammerlander, Miura, or anybody else who skied Everest in less than perfect style, just Kit. As anyone who's actually visited the mountains outside a ski resort knows, what you can get away with depends not just on your ability, but on the conditions you find. Seems really tacky to trash on someone when you haven't done the same thing in at least as good style.

  • @basnobua
    @basnobua 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is unfortunate that supplemental oxygen has allowed the mountain to grow so crowded, but summiting in such hypoxic conditions is often suicidal and most certainly not a "shame", furthermore it allows attempts like these. Oxygen starved muscle would never submit to a ski descent, and even if it could, no one could possibly be lucid enough to survive it.

  • @cyrilfaure1622
    @cyrilfaure1622 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    And last thing : they both used oxygen to reached the Everest's summit. I think you can't say I did the Mt Everest if you oxygen : it's like saying I won the Tour de France using EPO...
