- We got locked out of our motorhome when the cast white metal door latch broke, leaving us unable to retract the latch to open the door. This video demonstrates how to remove and replace the door latch mechanism.

Thank you for video! We have a Four Winds Siesta with same lock and we're getting ready to replace for 2nd time due to one part that is plastic... We had trouble getting in and had to ask for help from our RV guys that were doing some work on roof and other stuff getting ready for long trip. We now settled in AZ and selling the Siesta, of course just getting ready to list and the T507 broke again...

Excellent video & commentary. Fitting these locks can be tricky. They are also very expensive. I recently installed a TriMark lock for my elderly neighbour and he paid over AUD$900 for an original lock from the US. One problem I encountered was not being able to replace the old striker plate due to seemingly impossible removal of the old one. After loosening the two screws into the motor home (2003 Winnebago) door frame there seems to insufficient play to move the striker plate up enough to pull it out. Seems the whole door frame would have to be removed to take out the striker plate and install a new one.

Pretty neat Wayne. Hunting parts is often an ordeal. I have had the same issue many times over the years with various projects. This is particularly interesting to me, because I need to completely rebuild the door on my Shasta trailer, from door skin to latches. I may even opt for adding that same latch that you have when it's time, because I get to start from scratch on the door. Hope all is well there! My son was diagnosed with Covid a week ago, and he's at home battling symptoms. Luckily he hasn't had any breathing issues so far. I wish he had gotten vaccinated when the rest of the family did. He's a skeptic, but I think he may now change his mind.

Good job Wayne. According to “judge Judy” people like you don’t exist, lol. In her opinion, no one person cannot know how to do more than 1or 2 things so proficiently. You must be a unicorn. Makes me want to proactively buy a new latch assembly for our camper.

Another question Wayne. If you had replaced the old striker plate with the new would you have been able to leave the new striker bolts instead of replacing with old striker bolts?

Mine broke just as yours did. My problem is I can’t get the door open. I’ve pulled the broken plunger in as far as possible but still no go. The locks are disengaged. Did you use needle nose vice grips to pull the plunger in?
Mine wouldn't open either. I had to remove interior door trim to get more access to the latch and striker plate. This allowed me to push the bolt back a little easier. Imagine trying to escape that camper in an emergency!
Hi Wayne. I found my deadbolt was jammed so even when I released the plunger, of course the door would not open. I know one thing….if I want to feel dumb, I just have to work on an RV or boat. Thanks for the insight on T507 versus T5079

Looked the part you could have used t507 or with the extra handle lock or the t505 single lock both would work i usually order it amazon is great for returns prime And as i was looking at the part amazon changed the price 136/152
Excellent video! This is exactly the rv door latch I have and it's becoming a beast to open. 2005 forest river lexington 210. Before I saw your video I had found the RV Designer T507 latch that I thought would be a replacement. This will help me tremendously. Wondering, my door opens out and to the left. Yours opens out and to the right. Seems like this would be an issue? Will it work to turn upside down? Also, you didn't need to change out your striker plate? It fit ok obviously. I wish the inside levers were red as the original. Someone showed they used their old inside plate instead of the new inside plate because of that. It was a different kind of latch altogether though than what we have.
I’m not an RV expert but I think the latch would work in any orientation. However, the embossed lock symbols would end up upside down. Make sure you are ordering the correct latch for your coach. RV product manufacturers seem to have a problem with supplying good and accurate documentation. I did not have to change the striker plate. Both were identical. However, I did have to adjust the alignment bolts to get proper closure. Good luck with your replacement. Let me know how it goes. Thank you for the kind feedback! Stay kind, Renee!
@@WaynePolcin Thanks for the feedback! I Looked at my rig door and it's upside down as the key holes are on the bottom instead of the top. I think it should work if I just turn it upside down. I hope.

Wayne, another question. I noticed my latch on the inside has a sticker that says, Do not tamper with or attempt to loosen the striker bolts. Are the striker bolts those that you said to put thread lock on?
Good question. The answer is yes! Once you have them set to the proper length, you should use #271 Locktite to keep them there.

I’m sorry for taking so long to reply. How is your battery? I’m assuming you’re leveling with the engine turned off.
@@WaynePolcin The batteries have been fully charged and everything else works fine. My slide out work and everything else.
@DunlapProperty where are you measuring the voltage and how much voltage are you seeing?
