Got to say your channel is definitely up there with the best. You make it interesting and informative, I always look forward to your fixes. From the uk 🇬🇧 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow! Your channel has really gotten better over the last year.. Really like the path you've taken on instructional and informative content now. Keep up the great videos! I rate you in my top 10 wait list each week now. If possible, a little brighter lighting would be awesome!
yeah i love where he is comming from from doing top speed pulls and just spraying plastics with wd40 to rebuilding hole engines now... he kinda is my inspiration in the way im doing the same 3 years ago i didnt know shit about bikes and quads now i can do basic shit bearing brakes check spark but not rebuild a engine yet am not there but i did rebuild 2 times my kx80 but bad but i still did it and it broke 2 times and now its one it 3rd time to seaze cause i do dumb shit. but i learn you learn with time. just need a garage to try and rebuild engines... so also watching joe doing this helps me understand wtf i need to do
Not sure if you’re aware Joe, but these older Polaris have a fuel sight gauge through the side plastic since the tank is translucent(for the most part), it’s right under the 4x4 decals.
She's an oldie but a goodie!! That baby just ate those mud holes like they were nothing! I love the older machines, they don't make them like they used to, not by any means!
Great vid! I bought my son a Polaris Sawtooth a few years back (2WD, 200cc, 4-stroke), and that thing also is a blast to drive. It has always been 100% dependable. It must have the same or similar CVT transmission yours does. It has never failed. I'd keep that one.
Good deal man for sure!! Gotta love deals like that. I picked up a 04 trail blazer last fall from original owner that just needed general parts replaced like tie rods and rear bearings but I got it for$800
That’s got to be the nicest 4-wheeler you’ve bought in like… forever lol. I can’t believe you got a running bike for only $750! And it was nuts how it was just that tiny wire that ruined the 4x4 lol. Just goes to show that sometimes it’s worth the risk
@@mikespain8655They still sale for sometimes 3 grand if taken care of and everything! Not saying I would give that for one considering I have one and paid less than 1 grand for it. But yes the market seems to be keeping the price up ever since COVID. Before that you could pick them up for around $500 to $1500 for one.
I had the exact same bike for years and it is one powerful, bad dude. It’s kinda hard to bear the 400 two-stroke but the problem is keeping all three chains on.
On that dirt bike I helped put that wiring Condit on there to help protect the wiring. Like you could do on those broken soldered wires with the shrink wrap to help prevent it from breaking again.,or getting snagged off. With small sections precut to fit over those wires neatly to with zip strips.,known as zip ties to.
I had the exact same atv back in the early 2000s it was a fun machine my 4x4 stopped working and the wires had been pulled out reconnected them and worked like a charm. No engine braking and single shock in the rear was like riding a goat but 2 stroke was fun.
I have the same wheeler it's been sitting for years but always runs great still. Seeing this video think I'll go to the barn and see if it fires and go for a ride.
Nice! I had a '98 Trail Boss 250, only 2 wheel drive, but also went anywhere. Had a lot of fun with it right up until it was stolen. A bit of deja vu as so much of the construction and parts of the 2 bilkes are the same.
When soldering you might try to strip your wire ends shorter. Instead of twisting your wire interlace the wire from the ends, as it gives more contact area to solder and higher flow of electricity. It also is closer to the OEM wire diameter. It makes a much neater repair and you can use smaller/less shrink wrap and go with the boat water sealed shrink wrap for about the same price.
I still have the tool kit for my 1999 polaris scrambler 400. It's still in the palstic bag inside the cloth case. The olny thing in my kit vs the kit you have is a tool for adjusting the chain tension. I would post a picture but don't have a way.
I still like watching you self teach yourself how to do that type of work to. As A DIY videos for others to learn about them.& how to on them to. Just try to remember lean is turning the fuel screws in.& richen is turning the Fuel set screws out. Though alright 2vintage.& yes it does need to be filled up.
Nice post! I've got this exact machine that I bought new. It's in perfect condition other that the speedometer got broken off. I live in Southern Oregon and quad prices are super high right now. I'm curious if you kept or sold yours. I'm thinking of selling mine and not sure what to ask for it. Any thoughts?
I love the channel. I have a 94 Polaris 400 4x4 exactly like the one in this video. It doesn’t want to run with the choke off. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb is it a fuel issue?
running without a battery can lead to overvoltage depending on the design of the electrical systems. this applies to all atv's and dirt bikes . some have a seperate lighting coil for the lights and some are powered off the battery. if you turn on key and it's not running and headlight doesn't come on you have a lighting circuit. if headlight comes on with key on you have battery powered light. if headlight doesn't come on not running with key on and you start it and lights come on you have the sperate lighting circuit that does not require a battery.
hi on my old 85 quad the reverse lever wont push the cbl to then push the lever that disengages reverse, i have to bend over n use my hand, any ideas? c clamps didnt wrk
Keep it I had the same thing loved it and I sure do miss it hard to find a Polaris 2-stroke that runs that good especially the 400 that's a refund the 250 4-wheel drives are getting hard to find now too I always thought they were one of the funnest four wheelers to have I would definitely keep it if I was you
Your partially correct that running polaris 4 wheelers without a battery will blow the bulbs. But it is because doing so fries the voltage regulator and then it sends to much voltage and burns out the bulb.Learned this the hard way. Let someone borrow my scrambler 500.Battery went bad and they were pull starting it which is fine. But tje bad battery caused te voltage regulator to go out and when I got back was told the lights didn't work.Machine was putting out 16v at idle. Needless to say a battery voltage regulator and two headlights later im good.Need to start it and check voltage again or you'll be replacing lights again.
That was enjoyable to watch thanks :) Looks like you have some great territory to test ride in. Hope there is plenty of fruit when ripe to pick as well :)
Hey hope you gave that dirt bike trick A try.,or shot to see if it's works out for you in it to. It's the pull switch.,or electric switched controlled. Check the stator out put wire for power source. Unless their cut.,or broken behind the flywheel/ magneto in one for running& charging system to. Remember the wiring does melt off.,or can just what is called burn into.,or snap off from riding it hardcore to.
Great video - although I could do without all the armchair soldering superstars below in the peanut gallery. We get it - you know how to solder, good for you! Lots of people watch content on TH-cam to critique - they need to get a better way to spend time. As always GREAT stuff, you are one of the better ones on TH-cam with this kind of content....

Every machine I have had I ditched the oil injection and mixed the gas the engines never blew up on me ! Especially snow mobiles . My buddies would be rebuilding every few years not me lol
What a buy joe cracker of a quad mate and quick fix too life's not too bad after all buddy take care look forward too the next vid awesome channel 🔧🔧👍👌🔧
Bye yourself a tig welder you can repair your own cases and a lot more with it great for welding aluminium save you money and it pay for itself in time
The soldering work can definitely be improved… hold the iron below the wires and introduce solder from above … you will know you got it right when the solder melts into the wires and becomes smooth
Heat the soldering iron, then tin it (put some solder on the tip) to aid heat transfer to the wires. Heat the wires, not the solder. When the wires are hot enough, the solder will melt onto and in between the metal strands making a good weld that will not act like a resistor lol. Always heat the wire and let the wire melt the solder. Place separate heat shrink tubes on each wire. If you like, you can also put a larger heat shrink tube over both. Been doing this since the mid 70's.

Don't forget to check the fluid level in the front hubs. They don't take much but they do take a little oil in them
I've been picking up a few Polaris ATVs from this vintage. easy to work on, and the parts are plentiful, both aftermarket and pre-owned.

i always thought it was cool that polaris made 2 stroke 4x4s.
This was my 1st ATV and I loved it, it was a beast and fast for a big old 4x4
I rode a older sportsman 400 I think it was the most enjoyable utility quad I ever rode , tons of power and handled really well.
bro you are killing it with the videos lately! i always get excited to see a new vid. keep up the awesome content!!!

This quad is in good shape, and was an easy repair. That said, it is 28 years old, and cannot see it selling for anywhere near $2000 grand.
I can, market is ridiculous right now

Bro, I love the old 2 stroke Polaris, had a buddy with a trailboss 250 and it was the most fun you could have on a 250! Great find bro!
I was really looking forward to you checking if the injection worked. I have one and have been curious how to check if it's working
Couple of my buddies had those growing up and they were pretty decent.
You have been getting some better deals lately congratulations it ebbs and flows hope you get some more great deals

And use a little flux on the wire and heat the wire until the solder melts into it, to draw it into the joint and make a solid connection
I have the exact same bike and it had the same issue. All the lights were blown out on it. Changed all the bulbs and it’s fine now.
What a nice score bro. Thank you for sharing and be safe :)
I had one years ago !! They are a great little quad

brotha, we need more of those old polaris reparation videos! VERY GOOD STUFF
i have a 1996 Polaris 300 express 2x4 2 stroke the same body as that big just that one is a 400 4x4 2 stroke fun bikes tho

I bought a trail blazer and a 4x4 400 for 2k they were both in extremely nice condition and I love both of them
Soldering. you have to heat the connection up then apply the solder❤
Still had the factory tires on it Dunlop Been took care of Only thing is them chains

At 8:59 while blowing out an air filter……. Blow from the inside out or the opposite direction air flows/draws normally.
I have yet to see you work on a Honda rancher 420. Must be a good sign
I do wish I lived somewhere that I could ride those type of trails but near the city doesn’t have that it’s beautiful out there
Any videos on fixing 4x4 on a chain drive? I’ve got a 97 sportsman 400 that I believe the sprocket is the issue.
I bought one and I gotta fix the coolent fan. Any videos on how to do that. I can’t find any vids on it
New sub.
Anything on the 4x4 Hawkeye you have, I'm all ears. Have an 07 with most of it's life in the shed.
Got it runnin again for now.
What type of oil or fluid you put on the front of the head light container ?🙏🏻
You and your brother need to go for a ride sometime. Make a long video please. Keep up the hard work.

Hi from the Isle of man, I've learned loads from your content thanks very much 👍
great channel and great vids i'm 16 and buy and resell a bunch of fourwheelers learned most of what i know from your vids 👍
I still have a clean trx 200 honda I use alot ,I saw a video where you bought one and the guy used his for ice fishing.
Ya that heatgun will fix your carb intake boot on that dirt bike. I seen you using it again today on one of your four wheelers again to.
Learn so much from these videos keep it up man!!
its fun seeing u enjoy the quad and driving it, good video btw!
I don't know how many of my friends got rid of the 4wd cut the fenders and jacked these up lol
Where can you get parts for older wheelers like this?
All the green grass looks good on video
What ratio did he pre mix? And what oil Polaris?
Love the video glad to see you come as far as you did keep up the good work
I’d like to see you get a Yamaha trizinger because we have one but she don’t run and I think it’s be cool to see someone fixing one

An H4 halogen bulb would go right in that headlight. Good score on this ATV!
liked the long ride through the woods!
The brake lever on the handle bars actually is for front and back. The pedal is just and auxiliary brake for the back.
what is the model name? n wish u just jacked up the front to check 4wd....so this is an early cvt? no shifting, belt drv? cool tho
That was enjoyable to watch thanks :) Looks like you have some great territory to test ride in. Hope there is plenty of fruit when ripe to pick as well :)
That tire pressure gauge...check to see if it's for low pressure. That's what mine came with. Nice for dialing in under 15 psi.
That was such a great deal you got on the kx and this 4 wheeler!!
Yeah that’s a keeper I agree 100%
Would like to see you play around with a suzuki eiger 400 4x4 one day. Those things are sweet.
Nice looking quad kinda what I'm looking for next
Love these videos. It reminds me of the atv's and dirt bike I used to work on. Don't have the time any more though

Cool I have similar polaris 4x4 that slips out of gear every now and then when in reverse.
Shift linkage under the exhaust cover
Voltage regulator can blow bulbs also
I wish I could bought those 4x4 so cheap here in Portugal...every toy like yours is so expensive, even not working.
The piece that holds the air filter what is the part called

I have the same 4 wheeler but mine back fires through the exhaust and I don’t know how to rectify the problem
Clean the carb?
You should try to find a clapped out xr650 and make it new there a very nice bike with not a lot of following so there pretty cheap
When blowing out an air filter, always blow from the inside out. This way you're not blowing dirt deeper into the filter.
Shouldn’t ever blow ur air filter out anyway
@@2vintageDeamonFan why?
@@NattyRoider becuse your blowing out the filter element and can cause cracks and holes in the filter
@@2vintageDeamonFan you don't have to use full pressure. Just a tad to get the fine particals out.
@@mockinbirds66 still not a good idea
When is the ttr125 vid coming out?
You have an eye for good deals. Here in Ohio, people try to sell 20+ year old ATV's for what they paid for them new and they are beat to heck. lol
Good morning. I have this same machine- i use it for hunting and snow plowing. My battery died and i made a costly mistake by jumping it-pull cord starter worked about 3 times then got stuck out ( dirty and rusty under cover) blew all my lights on my machine! Lesson learned i guess! Replaced tail light-3 headlights and still need to replace instrument dash bulb and the AWD- speedometer light out also. Any help on the dash lights and AWD would be greatly appreciated! Thank you and have a good day
Mate, this is a keeper
