I was watching you test the voltage at those fuses, and it dawned on me, you are trying to probe down on the legs of the fuse, but did you know those little silver dots on the top of the fuse are test points? They are actually part of the legs, that might make it easier for you in the future. Or am I not seeing something correctly, and I'm in error? Ok, I'll be quiet now and keep watching, you struck gold man! Love it👍🏻 Ok, watched the while thing, congratulations man, what a score! We both know it can always go either way, but you crossed every bridge with ease!!! I have a tip for you. It's never failed me. Awesome find!

Glad you got this deal and figured out the issue (fairly quickly I might add! ) great video and awesome work as always! Best of luck on the next project!
I very much enjoy your diagnostic method…. Simple and effective!!! I do have a Question….. 1) Why do you backprobe at the base of the fuse to test voltage at the fuse box, and not just use the test point on the top post on the fuse itself? 2) percussive maintenance On the starter was brilliant! 3) just a note…. Rather than use a piece of wire to backprobe or to test internal connectors…. You can use a straight pin, but better is drapery pin, bend it straight, all the way down to the point, and make a t-handle from the dull end at the top like a handle…. It makes it a lot easier!!! Love your channel man!!!
I really enjoy watching your videos. You are an amazing troubleshooter and mechanic. I appreciate your personal integrity and the respect that you show your subscribers in the manner in which you conduct yourself.

One thing I’ve never understood is why you park way the hell out in the driveway and kill yourself getting something into the garage, when you can back up to it.
Im sure the dealership could have figured out all the issues eventually, but they have to know when to call it quits before they dump a ton of mechanics hours and parts into it.

That lovely upper midwestern winter climate causes more controlled vehicle obsolescence than one can shake a stick at. Great video, Joe, you always seem to be able to figure out the problem children! Thanks man!
Electrical Gremlins are not my thing. Good job diagnosing the problems.
Worth sanding, grinding the rust and covering with good paint, so it lasts. Pretty great deal, being able to find and resolve issues, that were cheap fixes. Very nice.
On my 2016 and 2017 you have to pull the hand brake and turn the ignition to start it. If you don’t pull the brake it won’t crank.
My 1998 was like that as well if I remember correctly.
It's a joy to watch a man who knows his shit you are very good at what you do my friend. Outstanding.
South Main Auto meets ATVs! love it
Also, when Ivan w/ Pine Hollow Diagnostics pulls out the Pico scope.
Going to have to watch more of these videos. South Main Auto is great.
Great job , always happy to see you bringing these ATV 's back from the dead.
it's crazy to me that schools don't teach basic diagnosing/reading of schematics/electronic circuit explanations in many shop classes in high schools. Then again, basic deduction is also not taught in many schools!
They did in the 80s and 90s when I was in school now they teach them boys can be girls and girls can be boys
Only woke crap is taught in schools now. Nothing useful.
@@NewTestamentDoc you first off have to want to need the expertise than a school can teach it just ask them and well itl happen 😉
@@thorjoseph I can't image any shop class in my high school that wouldn't have benefitted from basic diagnosis/deductive repair or production evaluation. We were required it for electronics class to build/repair circuits. Auto Shop class required it for basic auto diagnosis. Woodworkers used it, too.
@@NewTestamentDoc i live in Canada bc its trademark to be a mechanical engineer its farm country
Love it👍🏻
Ok, watched the while thing, congratulations man, what a score! We both know it can always go either way, but you crossed every bridge with ease!!!
I have a tip for you. When I run into wires that won't tin, I found that using paste soldering flux, (ACE or HD) the good stuff, I dip the wire into the paste cold, then apply the hot iron, and flux core solder... It's never failed me.
Awesome find!
The voltage drops quickly because you kept the high beam throughout your troubleshootings.
Im no mechanic by no means. Wish I learned how to fix things like this. Amazing. Comes in handy. Very intrigued by how you are able to figure out the problem and resolve the issues
I have watched most of your videos and am full of admiration for your ability to use logic in order to solve the issues. Well done from a Brit who enjoyed tinkering. I'm 77 and get my enjoyment now from watching U tube. Hugh UK
Dealerships want you to buy new, and they do not want to fix an older rig if they don’t have to. Maybe they have competent mechanics that could, who knows. Glad you got this deal and figured out the issue (fairly quickly I might add! ) great video and awesome work as always! Best of luck on the next project!
Nice to see Vinny came out to check out to see if you was doing the work ok 😂
I wondered that myself on the fuse's there is a test point on the back for a reason right?
@@ChewyKnight yes, but he has forgotten more about small engine repair than I will ever know, so there must be a reason….
I think I might have taken it for free but $1200 was a mercy gift from you😆
The biggest problem with it is being a Polaris.
@@feelnrite that’s one problem that can’t be fixed!
I really enjoy watching your videos. You are an amazing troubleshooter and mechanic. I appreciate your personal integrity and the respect that you show your subscribers in the manner in which you conduct yourself.
It was about time you had a easy fix on a four wheeler for a change. What a surprise.👍
dont know that i would call all these electrical issues an "easy fix" all that diagnostic work is a pita
With your know how. You make it look easy. No doubt in my mind at dealership hourly rate it would have been costly. Its machines like this that helps you off set the ones you buy and have to do a complete teardown. Thanks for the great content. I see you took it to the 2 vintage headquarters to test it out.
it used to be that the dealer's mechanics were the best. But I don't think so anymore. That is across the board in all mechanical repairs.
BRAVO, great find. All it needed was a good diagnostic and a little tinkering, and TA DA
great when Joe posts
Very enjoyable watching you problem solve and get these 'bargain' machines up and running . You know your stuff!
The rust is a pain to work on. Who knew oxidation could be so scary 😅
clearly not the previous owner that gave zero F's lol
I actually have this exact same model in a 2011 flavor. It's my first quad and I can say that is has been quite reliable. It's fun to watch you roaming around in areas I've been myself. I added a winch, larger wheels / tires, a 2 up seat and n LED light bar. Nice job using tour head to bring it back.
One thing I’ve never understood is why you park way the hell out in the driveway and kill yourself getting something into the garage, when you can back up to it.
Or open the garage door after already smoking out the room
Im sure the dealership could have figured out all the issues eventually, but they have to know when to call it quits before they dump a ton of mechanics hours and parts into it.
@@fletcherjacobs3688I’ve noticed in some videos he prefers to open the other garage door after smoking out the room, it may have to do with the lighting while he’s filming.
I have the same machine. Love it. I have had it since 2012. Been a great reliable quad. Love the power steering. I also have a 660 grizzly and that think beats me up when riding it. It was neat seeing you work on my quad. I learned a lot about mine in the process.
Great work and really happy you got a somewhat "easy" fix this time!
Cheers from Sweden
Loved your straight fwd diagnostic on this repair. Obviously willing to do more thorough work than the dealership
My first thought was, of course it’s not worth fixing, but look over here we have a brand new one to go. You happened along at just the right time, right place.
I have a 2014 Polaris Sportsman and I never have learned so much in one video about the bike..
Thank you
More Polaris videos would be great!
The metal pins on top of the fuses are so you can probe them without digging into the legs and over-stressing them, I love your troubleshooting, nice job!.
Joe, I have been watching for a long time watching you bring machine after machine back to life but this video for some reason had me laughing out loud. Impressive young man.
Obviously none of us are there but it's always funny watching you push everything around instead of just backing your trailer up to your garage
It's not funny when you misjudge and hit the garage or door..........
I agree about not hitting your building, however, you can still get close enough to make things easier.
You have MASTERED your ability to fix these machines, very impressive!
Amazing to see that you got it running and driving, but I’m not surprised! Great job as always, Joe!
That's so good to get a machine that is in good shape with some elbow grease and some trouble shooting. I bought a sportsman new and had to sell it in 2005 . Because I moved to Hollywood California for a job. So I miss it and I enjoyed watching you fix it after setting for a very long time. I have so many different machines that people have left out to just set and like they say just needs some TLC and just use it and things will loosen up and free up and I'm sure you'll find more things that are corroded. But it a good ride to put $ into. Thanks Dale
Great job Joe! I hate electrical problems, but you make it look easy. I would hit those rusty spots with some oil based undercoating. I use it on my old plow truck and tractors.
Excellent diagnostic work here.....went from one problem on to the next as you resolved them. Great job.
Absolutely thought this was one of your best work. You are just an absolute bulldog when it comes to finding the problem just awesome
Great video, enjoy watching you diagnose electrical problems and coming up with solutions without replacing everything. Another great save👍.
Can't believe how you get these thing running...hands down brother
Never throw anything away with potential, dealers ships don't care, their not making money unless their selling new machines. Awesome video, Awesome job.
U r head and shoulders above the competition! Great diagnostics and filming. Almost all service depts r really sales dept. Parts cannon instead of repairs????? P. S. We miss Vinnie.❤
Dealership is so so scared of rust because of froose bolt's and I'm just impressed by the consistent way of going through things 25:29
I love watching Joe create value in machines that people abandon.
Dude you blow my mind every time in your vids this blew my mind lol it starting up like that is amazing ..I hope the dealership is watching so they can see what a real small engine mechanic looks like lol
You're pretty good at what you do. You zero in on the problems like a magician.
Man I don't know your name but me and you are brilliant to say your grandfather taught you how to work on things and you just go from one thing they have been every time I watch your video I am so impressed
BRAVO, good deal getting dealer castoffs. Thanks for the teaching/learning moments, keep up the hard work towards 500k subs. Add $500 to the purchase price and se11 it back, they can flip it.
You are a true wizard. I love watching your electrical problem solving.
Nice work Joe! You did something the dealer didn’t want to.
Hey! I absolutely love your videos. I am working through a ds650 and saw your videos working through one. If you find yourself in electrical problems in the future I have a tool called a power probe. I cannot recommend them enough. There are cheaper versions, I got mine for 35$ used. Keep up the great work.
Great job Joe!, I get a kick out of hearing the surprise and accomplishment out of you’re voice, great video
Bro
I appreciate all of your videos.
I've learned alot
Nothing more enjoyable than watching you prove this throw away society wrong.
Especially dealerships.
God speed.

Man you are a very patient adventures young man I have not yet seen you give up on anything that come your way man keep on God is going to bless you truly above all your needs man you are truly amazing
2V, congrats! Runs and drives in one day! Engine sounds great! You scored on this one! Dealers would way rather sell a new one than fix an old one! Looks like lazy diagnostics on their part benefitted you!
There comes a time where people need to refuse to purchase new every time and anytime something goes wrong. That's throwing away perfectly good used equipment and being very wasteful while doing it. This is a 2013....there's NO reason why it can't be repaired. Should be able to fix stuff clear back to mid 80s or early 90s without much trouble.
I felt your relief when it fired up.. and a little blood went into this one. Nice!
Thats probably one of the nicest looking ATV,s
You're have done,very cool,colour and wheels.
The underneath will clean up easy.
Plus not a mad mileage, sounds sweet.
Plus vinny liked it😂
Just found your channel and the video was amazing! You are a bright guy and this was awesome! I am excited tp show my boys in the morning!
Hey dude, about time you had some good fortune with a project. Now just give me 6 numbers between 1 and 59 for my uk lottery 😂. That was a great faultfinding walk through. Take care and bring us more.
Ok Joe as you was rolling it off the trailer your hat was in the forward position and as it was down the ramp your hat flipped around to ..I’m ready to fight that was the best video editing I seen all day😅😅😅
Since I noticed your regularly testing wire, I would invest in a gatorclip back probe leads. I'm a heavy duty diesel tech, they are a life saver, and don't ruin the plug pins. BTW keep up the great work, love your videos.
Wow! i got goose bumps when that started right up and idled fantastic feeling that was brother, good deal and great channel you have.
Excellent video. Fun as hell to watch. Those fuses have tiny holes on the top end that you can probe for continuity without having to jam probe down in between. You might know that already.
