I think all the ships made a 90 degree left rotation for that warp jump. As for the mission, well... You can imagine how it feels like to suddenly have Gamma snuffed out like nothing mid-mission because an enemy Kurgen jumps right on top of them. Which is why practically ramming it with a Jackhammer is a must.
