Beautiful video! I was just there a week ago and hit all those places…I have visited Spearfish Canyon in every season except winter…it’s a gorgeous place! Loved the drone footage above Devils Bathtub…never seen it from the vantage point…I always just put on old tennis shoes and plan on walking through the river…the community caves are beautiful and a shorter but steep hike…definitely hike it next time plus the Iron Creek trail…also the Rim Rock loop trail that leaves from the campground you stayed at is beautiful as well…endless places to explore in Spearfish💚
Thank you Randy for such a lovely and beautiful video. The colors were spectacular. God truly is the "Master Creator" and all your awesome videos prove this. I love it when you include Faith based music in your videos. It gives me the opportunity to thank God for all my Blessings; it's about having an, "Attitude of Gratitude"... Robin
Great video. My 20 yr. old son and I were in the canyon March 27, 2023. Stopped at Spearfish Canyon Lodge and parked, road was closed to Rough Lock Falls. Very snowy and quiet. We walked to the falls. Beautiful. We visited my alma mater SDSM&T, where he is looking to transfer.
Such a pristine area of our great country. We hiked around Spearfish back in August 2021. Clear streams where you could see rainbow trout swimming! We did the Devil’s Bathtube really early in the morning and were the first to arrive, having it to ourselves for quite sometime. Just a beautiful memory. Thanks for bringing us back….
Really enjoy the video that place is beautiful! Haven't ever heard of that devil's bathtub but there is one in Virginia I want to check out next time I go. Thanks for sharing!
Wow. Your videos are up to 2160p now! Makes em even more beautiful! Your channel has inspired to visit more National parks with my parents, thank you so much!
SO incredibly beautiful! What a gorgeous hike and park. I love SD. Have said it many times, but SD does not get it's due. Especially the Western part of the state. We drove through the Black Hills Narional Forest on our way to Mt. Rushmore, but I wanted to explore the National Forest itself more. This video has just reiterated that for me. Thank you for sharing another wonderful video, Randy!
Another beautiful video, Randy. I love to get special info from other hikers along the trail, too. Hidden gems are all over! Thanks and take care always.
Enjoyed this video; gave me information for our vacation there later this week! Also watched your videos on Custer St Park & Badlands. Enjoy your music, too. Thanks for great videos!
Excellent video! I love this area as I travel through Spearfish Canyon on each trip to the Black Hills. I've been going 17 years running less Covid. I am 8 hours north in Regina Saskatchewan. I did the trail to Devils bathtub and ended up getting fairly soaked, as the creek was a lot higher. As you mentioned, the length of the trail isn't far, but the twists and turns makes it a longer walk! I always make a point of going to the Dances With Wolves filming site - about 3 miles west of Roughlock Falls. You likely passed it on the way to Timon. It is overthrown now, but if you if you visualize the final scene of the movie, you can make out where it was shot. I will back down there In early September:) Thank you for the great content! Rob
Randy, GORGEOUS COLORS! Agree so much about enjoying conversation with Park Rangers and Forest Rangers in our parks and National Forests. Just like Kayla and Hailey, our daughter still teases me about my long chats with the staff. BTW, the NPS is looking for new hires both young and old, and these folks obviously enjoy their jobs. That is a interesting mining building, like you mentioned. Your video of the waterfalls and rock formations really show off the Black Hills. Of, course AMERICA’S PARKS has to get in the water! NICE SLIDE! Amazing close-up of the Mountain Goat. Great place for car camping. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR DAY WITH US, . . . Mike
Oh yeah get the conversations - I would have loved to capture our conversation with PCT hiker Sarah from the UK - what, 4 years later Jim & I still talk about that 15 minutes. The bathtub place - that looks amazing!
I genuinely enjoyed this! I'm taking my family camping here in June and we can't wait. Videos like yours are one of the only good things left on the internet so thank you. Keep it up, great work!
I love Spearfish Canyon! My sister used to live out there. Crow’s Peak is another scenic hike, but it’s close to 7 miles once you go out and back. This video is making me want to take the 6 hour drive and find some new trails!
What a great area and great list of attractions you just did! Yeah I don't think it's fun to probably put a tent together in the dark lol. Looks like you had a wonderful time great weather and not crowded! Another awesome adventure and thanks for sharing Randy!
Just got back from our Disneyland and Star Wars Celebration (Convention) had a wonderful time but as soon as I came home and unpacked I needed some nature inspiration and what better way to get that (other than being out there of course) but by watching a wonderful video from America's Parks
Local knowledge is always invaluable information, especially when it is delivered in a real friendly way by good people. I always love a waterfall and what a great pre-lunch example that was. I always spend so much time chatting to people on the trail and it makes the hike for me as you meet so many awesome people. The Devils Bathtub sounded ominous and it did look a bit sketchy to get there and I bet that water was dam cold, not wonder your voice when up two octaves! Great call on keeping stop number 5 in the program, man that was a sight to see! Cheers Alan
awesome day in the forest and nice campsite/ so cool you ran into some subscribers/ but wow my back hurts just watching you go down that flume hahaha!! great times thanks for taking us with you
We really love your videos! But would it be possible that you write the places/ hikes you show in the video in the deskription too? We are from Germany an sometimes it is a little bit to fast for us to understand correctly your explanations. This would be a great improvement for us.
Your voice went a little...evil...around the devils bathtub! Hahahaha! Lets hope that just a coincidence! Your comment about not having to set up in the dark really resonantes with me!
Thanks for taking us to the Devil's Bathtub! It was a beautiful hike but you said it was dicey and I don't do dicey hikes anymore. lol So thank you for sharing that. What time of year did you visit this park? Was it recent? I want to make sure the waterfalls are flowing when I visit. I know they can be seasonal.
Why are there no bears in the Black Hills National Forest? I have my theories but would like expert opinion on bears, how they move and migrate throughout the western United States.
At 9:30, not only did you get to see some mountain goats in the wild (an animal I've not encountered), but he was close enough to shake hands/hooves with.
I can’t believe I’m saying this and it’s real but I close on my dream home dead smack in the black hills forest. Worked 30 years to pull it off and it’s real and I can sit on my deck and see rapid creek 100’ away. Waterfalls from my deck.
@@johnkertzman3223 Any discussion or journey through the Black Hills is simply incomplete without mention of its cultural importance and troubled history. I cannot satisfactorily answer your question since the traditional concept of land ownership was very different to American Indians (and surely within their varied cultures and peoples) than that of the United States. Using American legal precedent as reference, then the United States theft of this land is irrefutable and a sad moment in our nation's history.
@@johnkertzman3223 it would be wise for us all to step back and try to understand the nuances of this situation while recognizing the crime at hand. We would be better for it. Please respect the fundamental differences between our culture and theirs as it plays a fundamental in understanding what and why things happened the way they did. Since you are sticking with this 'stealing stolen land' distraction, I want to note that in many (if not most) jurisdictions stealing stolen property is still a crime lol
@@johnkertzman3223 nothing I have said is a rewrite. The Great Sioux reservation was guaranteed in treaty and that treat was violated in a sinister and violent fashion. Indeed, the US Supreme Court sided with the Lakota in an affirmation of this history. Let us remember the past as it was, both the good and bad and learn from it, not hide from it. The Black Hills are both beautiful and humbling and we should cherish and respect them as they are.
@@johnkertzman3223 also, I am sorry if I came across as placing blame upon you or our American contemporaries. It clearly was not any of us alive today who did this. But knowing our nation’s history, both good and bad, is a healthy foundation for which to continue building our nation and people. We can always learn from our ancestors’ wisdom and mistakes.
Enjoyed reading the civilized dialogue. And might I add before we get too self-righteous, the very land we are living on and claim as our "own" was most likely "taken" from the indigenous people too.
Why did people attribute such lovely places the the devil? It makes no sense! “Step into the water, wade out a little bit deeper, step into the water of His love.” - Ernie Haase, Cathedrals Quartet. Boondocking is clearly the way to go. Thanks for making room for me.
