    Banjo Tooie is easily the best thing Rare has ever done.
    I loved everything about it. They took a already brilliant game and made it even more amazing!
    Many people are thrown off by all the backtracking and interconnectivity, but that is what makes this game so special for me. And I like all the levels, even glitter gulch mine and grunty inc.
    And all the npcs and the funny dialogues are so good.

    "There is no boss on this level [Mayahem Temple]"
    I call BS on that because even as a kid I could tell *Targitzan* was the boss of that level.
    Just because the gameplay was different doesn't mean he doesn't count. I mean he had a boss remix of the level's theme for crying out loud!

    I'd count myself among the minority who like Tooie more, but only by a slight margin, and it used to be the opposite actually. I just finished replaying these 2 games back to back and found myself more engaged with the bigger, more ambitious world and the absolute suite of abilities Tooie offers. That being said, I had also mentally braced myself more going into Tooie this second time than I had the first time and I think that's why my opinion shifted.
    As much as I enjoy Tooie's more adventure game style structure, I do find that the larger more intricate worlds and multiple convoluted crossover jiggies make the game more mentally taxing overall, in a not insignificant way. The first time I played Tooie was ALSO back to back with Kazooie but those playthroughs were completely blind, and coming off of Kazooie's much smaller, easier to parse worlds and jiggies I quickly found myself overwhelmed by Tooie's scope and scale. Glitter Gulch mine was already relatively labyrinthine for my taste thanks to the abundance of sub areas with nearly identical entrances and Grunty Industies was SO oppressively convoluted and threatening (those alarm rooms rly get ur blood pressure up despite the simplicity lol) that I ended up just getting like 1 jiggy and then realizing I could just move on to the next world anyway and hightailing it out of there.
    This time I knew what I was getting into and set aside space in my brain to mentally map out each world more deliberately, so I had a much better time in general (first playthrough I didn't really do this so I just sort of always felt lost, which was unpleasant), but this DID require a larger expenditure of mental resources and although I ended up enjoying Tooie more (and even actually completed and enjoyed Grunty Industries, though I DEFINITELY think it should have been the last world for multiple reasons) I still found it more tiring than Kazooie and so I can still absolutely understand why most people prefer the original.
    Anyway, great videos! I enjoyed them.

    this game is HUGE, hilarious, dark humor, saving children walking all over the place, doing chores, and having fun while constantly having nagging issues of pacing and backtracking.
    it feels like a needy wife xD

    Since I'm currently 100%ing Tooie, I've been watching a lot of retrospectives on it. I thought yours was a good indepth analysis but there was one glaring reoccuring mistake you said twice in the video. Targitzan was the boss of the first level. Regardless, I thought you did a good job and I left you a like.

    I don't know which soundtrack I prefer, I think Banjo and Kazooie only has one level theme I dislike (Mumbo's Mountain) and Tooie has two level themes I dislike (GG Mine and Terrydactyland). But Tooie also has boss themes and Kazooie doesn't even have bosses so I think it's a tie.

  • @MR.__G
    @MR.__G วันที่ผ่านมา

    The backtracking is what kills the flow for me. This is a collecthathon and it’s sucks when you can’t 100 percent a level without needing a power from a future level. This happens practically the entire game as apposed to kazooie where it only happened once. I wish I could combined both games. I do love the bigger levels and quest of tooie, while also loving how everything to collect is there outside of one time in kazooie.

  • @brn2579

    I think I prefer Tooie as well. I don't mind all the backtracking, or the overly complicated jiggies. The only real problem I have with the game is I would have liked to collect all the notes individually instead of in clusters.

    • @Churly25
      @Churly25 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The notes being in clusters were actually a good decision by the developers since they become easier to collect. The challenge of each world wont be collecting every note or collectible in one run, but the backtracking and complex puzzles required to get the Jiggies in a big world, just like in Zelda Ocarina of Time with their temples and dungeons

    I absolutely love Tooie, and I have more nostalgic for Tooie than Kazooie. And, I also highly prefer Tooie's songs over the first game for one simple reason: Boss Themes.
    Donkey Kong 64 showed us that Grant Kirkhope is really good at making boss themes, but Banjo-Kazooie didn't had any bosses other than the Final Boss.
    With Tooie, there's a lot of bosses, and the themes are so good. Maybe the bosses aren't all that great, but man the songs are so good.
    And I always loved the interconnectivity of worlds on Tooie as well.

    As a kid, I played this game before Banjo-Kazooie. My sister asked our mom to get this game as she played the first game at a friends house and thought this was the same game. Anyway, I didn’t like the backtracking in this game as a kid, so I preferred the first game because of that.
    As an adult who downloaded and played both games on XBOX 360, I prefer Banjo-Tooie now. The story is better, the bosses are better, and there’s more mini-games. You can refight bosses and replay mini games. Plus, the humor is better as well.

    13:39 2 jiggies* cause there's also the stomping plains Banjo switch. As for Kazooie's hatch ability, it's used for 3 jiggies (tiptup, terry's eggs, and one of the 3 alien children) unless you also count the floatus floatium creatures that you hatch in cloud cuckooland in order to get a jiggy with Banjo later on.

    I like both Banjo games more than DK 64. But, as for comparing the two, I think Tooie is missing the first game's fun storybook charm, both visually and musically. I wish the music was more upbeat and energetic, though I do love the track of Cauldron Keep. Also, it would have been nice to see Tooty again.

    Also yes I'm with you in liking Banjo Tooie more btw. Feels like overall you get more bang for your buck and get to spend a lot more time with these characters and worlds and Banjo Kazooie is just too quick to get through as an adult.

    I will say this, the gun controls on the N64 are much better than the ones on the Xbox version, the gun shooting games are my favorite part of Banjo Tooie, and while the Xbox version runs better and the graphics are much smoother in this version, ill always find the N64 version to be the better version, hopefully Banjo Tooie comes to Switch so we can have the smooth graphics and same controls.
