    Using a Kobol and a Proton together.
    What a blast.

      Imagine a proton neutron and kobol combined.

    Thanks for reviewing the Proton! Really hope Behringer continues to create more original synths.

    I almost pulled the trigger on this one, really almost. I went for the Minifreak in the end. I grew tired of what u say just at the beginning, getting messy between synths because of the tuning. Having said that, this one is a winner from Behringer, it’s super interesting and sounds so sweet man.

    Hello,
    Thanks for this review. Just a practical observation : *there's only a 44 € gap with the Behringer 2600* !
    Honnestly, if I were to choose between the both, I won't hesitate one second and choose the 2600. It is far more versatile and complete, for a very close price.

    • @winesynths

      Thats true. It seems that the 2600 was more expensive, when it came out.

    • @liviou2004

      @@winesynths Yes, it's 444 € on your most famous german web store ! And more, we can find second hand 2600, in perfect state, for less than the Proton price !
      I do like Behringer brand. But, honnestly, even if the Proton is a good synth, it's price doesn't stand on the good range (contrary to the Neutron for example).
      Just compare with the Kobol expander which is two time less expansive, incredible (189 € ) !
      Plus, I don't speak of the lack of S&H module...
      Really, I consider the Proton is not a good deal (for that price).

      Very true, downside is the size of the 2600 (got a small house). ;)

      Good point. I really don’t need another analog synth without patch memory. I like my neutrons but I love my Pro-800.

    First. This is a very well presented video. Excellent demonstration. Detailed and in context.
    This synth seems wonderfully capable. The sound is rich, alive, aggressive, and musical.
    I hear much more than an aggressive synth. EDM and dance it could do easily. But I can hear let us say Air or JMJ. I believe this has many hidden gems in it.
    Well done!

    I'm really surprised that Behringer has managed to incorporate a really powerful VCF into an in-house production. I'm often not convinced by the clones VCF, but the Proton VCF is a must-have.

    The only thing I would somewhat disagree with is the statement, "it has an enormous amount of modulation possibilities" in the conclusion. Certainly it has a respectable amount, but to go well beyond the already significant capabilities unsurprisingly requires additional modular support. Fortunately Behringer has what is needed including a decent 280hp case. It is a great synth on its own, but those not adding some "support" modules really only get some of what it can do.

    I think it would be a more simple option to start with the Neutron for me. I like how versatile the Proton sounds, but It's gonna be a challenge for me to actually make usable patches. Not that I don't mind doing endless tweaking of the knobs. I'm still learning the Jt-4000 so I'll wait further GAS until I can be good at it. Nice review.

    Since you have the SH101 in your background I look forward to the MS1mkii review. Did the coolaudio chip update get it closer to the original soul of the filter and envelope!?$§
    But also Syncussion because it is new to me and sounds interesting. Will it replace my electron model cycles for metallic clings and clangs?
    Ubxa desktop of course, will you keep it in your studio?
    Maybe a more investigative dive into the Proton sounds. Does it cover all synth styles, is it good for basses, digdugs, theremin solos, wakeman solos... Does it replace the Neutron? Do you miss the delay and overdrive of the Neutron?
    Well done and thanks. Have not decided yet if this is for me. First Model15

      I love the Syncussion, acutally always wanted a drummodule like that but not really strong in metallic sounds. Actually none at all as far as i found after a few days.

    • @winesynths

      The drive and the delay of the Neutron were really the weak points of this synthesizer! So I don‘t miss them at all in the Proton!

  • @dirkmoller5537

    How many patch cables were in your package? I had only 2 of them and I did read others had also only 2. So you have to buy some if it's your first (half) modular synth.
    Also there seems to be a bug. In the manual ist written, you can choose a waveform for sub1 and sub2 individually.
    But if you change for example sub1 waveform, sub2 waveform changes also and vice versa..

    Sounds hefty! This is a great review 😉👌 Does it have some kind of S&H modulation onboard?

    • @winesynths

      Unfortunately there is no Sample & Hold. But with the additional ASR Envelopes you have a lot of other modulation possibilities in that style with more control.

  • @Maladaptation_ThiesWrobel

    What is the F/S on the envelope good for? May I can change/ modify the envelope only by changing AD and R? Only a question…
    The ASR envelopes are a funny toy.

      the ASR envelopes are loopable at audio rates? youve never heard of a function generator? what about makenoise MATHS?
      i assume f/s is fast/slow for the attack or overall rate of each stage

    • @lucid484

      @@KarolinaMedvedenko-b8uWhat kind of drugs are you on? The Neutron is absolutely not useless on its own. Hook that up to a DAW and you could write entire songs with that one device. You could easily make it polyphonic by recording multiple takes or using your DAWs built in sampler. People who think pieces of gear are useless on their own lack creativity.
