I'm a huge fan of the next-level experience provided by Dolby Vision and, except for The Invisible Man, I own all of those titles!! I'm glad you included The Wizard of Oz, since it looks at its absolute best in that format. Some other movies that I own digitally and have delighted me with their striking visual presentation are Blade Runner 2049, Bumblebee, Ad Astra, and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. I can't imagine how good it looks on top end 4k tv's. I watched the 4k blu ray on a lower end 4k TCL, and I was blown away and glued to the screen. To think it gets better with a dedicated 4k blu ray player and one of the top OLEDs, it has to be top 5 visually speaking!
If I'm not mistaken, I believe Apocalypse Now 4K and 2001: A Space Odyssey 4K have Dolby Vision, and I think those are two of the most stunningly *gorgeous*-looking 4K discs I have seen (along with Blade Runner 4K, but I don't think that one has Dolby Vision)
I recently bought and watched 2001 in 4K. A stunner indeed, but it was interesting to see how dated the movie was. Hardly a person of colour in sight, certainly not in the professional jobs. The only people of colour that I saw were ladies serving drinks to the exclusively white scientists and NASA officials on the shuttle and/or the space station. Also, no cellphones, tablets or PCs or World-Wide Web. And dear old Leonard Rossiter (RIP) as a Russian scientist with a very unconvincing accent - marvellous.

@@MentalDeviant I didn’t day I was complaining about the scarcity of people of colour. I just said it made the movie seem dated. Sure - a Japanese movie features mostly Japanese people. An American movie should feature mainly American people. I’m no expert but as far as I know, African Americans are American.
I would put 10 Commandments way out in front as my favorite DV disk, the colours and gold lustre in that film are so sumptuous, and Ready Player One as another go to demo. The Hobbit is another of my favourites with the shire and Smaug scenes in particular, and the Aquaman underwater scenes. Apparently My Fair Lady is on another level according to the pre-release reviews, I can't wait to watch it as I love those old classic movies.
Gemini Man is probably the cleanest looking blu ray I’ve ever seen.. Not the best sounding... but... the visuals almost look too realistic. Definitely something to show off your visuals in a home theater. I’m hoping we can see a review of the best atmos mixes on 4K blu rays- For me, the audio is just as important if not more than the visuals to give you that theater experience.
Just got Annihilation and it looks awesome! And yes, Aquaman is absolutely insane in 4k. I had originally bought the 4k digital from vudu and they looked great but he 4k blu rays are the way to go.
Good list. The 3 you missed are Ready Player One, The Matrix, and Saving Private Ryan. The last two get forgotten because there very neutral environments for the most part. Aquaman is, however, the best looking movie on my OLED. It’s crazy that it’s only a 2k DI. Really shows when they spend time on the UHD Blu-ray release. Like your channel, MovieGuy365!
Unfortunately, I'm still rocking a 1080p DLP TV. But one movie I like to see in Dolby vision is Dredd. When I saw it in the theaters, the colors were incredible.
The only ones I own are Annihilation & Joker and they really do look amazing. Im not sure if its Dolby but the best 4K movie Ive seen is still The Revenant from years ago now.
The revenant is absolutely the best 4k movie I own ,everything is crystal clear,the stream looks real in the opening scene,and the embers from fire rising in the air look like the TV is on fire. I have a C9 OLED, n it really shines with the Revenant. Netflixs POLAR is a very vivid movie too ,with the color saturation level on high. Most great looking 4k movies have a ULTRA HD PREMIUM LOGO somewhere on the box. Red Sparrow is also another great looking flick
@@parrisprice5892 I'm not sure how much faith to place in the "Ultra HD Premium" logo. I just finished watching Independence Day Resurgence in 4k. Its package bears the logo but, IMO, the HDR is pretty minimal. Not worth the price it cost. Just to make sure that it wasn't my TV (Sony AG9) that was at fault, I then watched some of The Hobbit Trilogy, which is Dolby Vision and the difference is like night and day. Also, The Revenant 4K, despite its brilliance, doesn't bear that logo, at least not here in the UK. I should add that my TV supports DV, HDR10 and HLG but not HDR10+. I don't know if that's why I am getting much better results with DV movies than with non-DV HDR movies.

I have an LG C9 OLED kinda the same TV you got but LG n,IOS instead of android. I will have to examine my copy of the revenant to see if it has the logo. Is your copy of that movie as clear as ive described? I have Independence day 1 n 2 also. But dont remember anything extraordinary about them.Idk ,ive found its more about how the movie was originally filmed,and then redone if its an older movie pre 4k . I just mentioned the logo because no one ever does,and it usually represents a certain quality, I just watched pacific rim which looked great,atmos rocked too. Do you have Red Sparrow? Its also a very crisp n saturated movie color wise. I almost bought a A8G sony when i got my LG but it was 400$ more n no longer on sale. I kinda like Android better my apple play 2 ,doesn't work as consistently as chromecast. But maybe its because i have only about 15 mb data package on my internet. First thing I did when I finally upgraded from Blu-ray to 4K was get reference films. I got the majority of this list for my first batch of movies. I gotta agree they look stunning.

Thank you for your good job! However, as you, like all of us, want the best quality you should take a listen to and review Auro 3d. I think this is the best audio format, because it will get you the best upmixing for the (many) movies that have inferior 3d sound,with allmost no activity in the hight channels.
The biggest problem with Auro 3D is AFAIK it's only on 4K discs released in certain European countries, mainly Germany. Though AVRs with Auro 3D support are sold worldwide, they are far less common than AVRs & soundbars with DTS:X, and even more so Dolby Atmos; same goes for the software. Also, most Auro 3D implementations call for a ceiling-mounted center height channel (aka the "Voice of God" channel) that Atmos does not support (DTS:X generally doesn't specify speakers but most of its implementations follow Atmos speaker suggestions), and which systems with upfiring or virtualized height channels (including all soundbars) generally cannot emulate at all.
I think we’re getting to a point where the quality of the grade and mastering of the video are noticeable most. Audio is a major thing too. With 1080p blu ray it’s was just the beginning but early for that fine level of detail to be noticeable.
I agree on John Wick 3; just watched all three over the weekend and third installment looks noticeable better. Matrix and 2001 Space Odyssey looks awesome also.. MI: Fallout looks the same to me, didn't noticed that much of a difference honestly. On the side, i believe that is important what TV and player you're using; not all TV manufacturers handle Dolby same way. I'm watching on Sony A8G paired with Sony UBP800x, generally can't complain 🤔

@@alexfernandez8083 I don't know man, I'm not bothered with switching that much, but I always wanted Panasonic player.. problem is that it costs too much and it's hard to find where I live (EU, Croatia). This one is just fine; upscaler is great, smooth, quiet player.. other than switching issue i don't have any problems.
@@juniorwalter9083 I want to get a panasonic for the HDR optimizer function and also the oppo-203 to be able to play dolby vision files and a couple of other features of which I'm pretty sure it's still the only player capable of doing so. Panasonic is supposed to have the best picture quality though.
Hi Adam! I been having problems lately with my 4k blu-ray movies with Dolby Vision . The Panasonic ub820 won't read the disc tl. Its use to be playing well for 1 year . Any idea how to fix it. Do anyone know how to fix this issue. Thank you in advance!
I think Netflix gave Dolby Vision a bad perception. Once I got my Panasonic ub820 I was really able to appreciate Dolby vision. Also, I have not entered the projector game yet but it's a shame you can't get Dolby vision on a projector
I have a Samsung Q80R (2019 model). This is a TV with essentially all the bells & whistles, sans Dolby Vision. What do you guys think I’m missing with a TV bereft of DV? I’m not going to buy a new TV anytime soon, but do you guys think it’s a strong upgrade from HDR 10+?
I bought an LG C9 OLED in 2020, hands down the best picture ive ever owned and ive had a few sonys,2099$ tho, so not cheap,paired with a nakamichi shockwafe 1299$ n 2 4k players ,panosonic 820 400$ n a sony ES1100 ,599$ . I collect n watch a lot of movies
Thanks, I strongly considered OLED over QLED back in 2019 but was scared off by screen burn-in talk around the OLED’s. Some people claim it’s a myth though. Any issues on your end?
@@ddc2957 i haven't experienced any yet,it has a pixel refresher in the menu,that i do once a month. And i try not to just leave it on if im not watchkng it, like setting the sleep timer. I did alot of research, and considered qled. I was even going to buy a sony ,but at the time it was 400$ more than the LG.SONY is android,n the LG is IOS, which one thing i dislike ,because airplay doesn't work as consistently as chromecast for like streaming hbo max. I play ps3 on it,watch a ton of movies,stream, so far no issues. The nakamichi is pretty bad ass too. Just watched pacific rim on 4k disc,awesome picture and the sound will sometimes scare ya,lol. Is Dolby Vision noticeably better than just HDR10? My TV can hit about 1200nits and supports Vision. I guess it depends more on the amount of grade past just HDR as it puts everything in the HDR10 container and then adds on what else it needs to.
I've compared the same disc with DolbyVision on and off in my TV settings and I think the difference is minimal between it and HDR10. I'm not rocking the best gear though, so maybe it's that. I have heard others say the same though.
@@travissorensen7614 I finally got a TV that could show the difference. Streaming I don’t think will really show me. My current player doesn’t support Vision so I would have to get a new one...it’s a pain since my TV also supports 10+
@@travissorensen7614 I've noticed that on my 55" Sony A9 OLED, the physical-media movies and Netflix content in Dolby Vision are usually much better than the non-Dolby Vision. So much so that, before I saw this video, I sorted my collection of 4K discs according to whether or not they are Dolby Vision. There are, however, some 4K discs that are exceptionally good IMO, even though they're not Dolby Vision. I would include The Matrix Trilogy and Blade Runner the Final Cut in that category.
@@CrashCarson14 I've noticed that on Netflix (I have the premium package, a Sony A9 OLED TV and 150Mb/s bandwidth) the Dolby Vision content is noticeably better, from a visual perspective, although it's not as good as the Dolby Vision on a 4k disc.
I must admit that 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are making me buy movies that I probably wouldn't normally watch. It's the sheer spectacle and the mind-blowing sound that provides immense entertainment. Heck - I even bought (and enjoyed) Godzilla King of the Monsters because of the rave reviews it got regarding visual quality and sound.
I think the exact opposite to what this guy is saying. I do not like Dolby vision, it gives everything an orange dim? The picture don't pop, they are dull, HDR10, is the way to go, it makes the picture, sharp, bright, and colourful. Also, with Dolby vision, it cuts off my choice to adjust it the way I want. Steer clear of it.

2001 is an absolute stunner, it almost made the list. I could have easily done a 25 list for Dolby Vision.

How do you know the movie Annihilation has Dolby Vision? I don't see anything on the label that says that.

You want a shocker? Watch the regular Blu-Rays of Avatar and Alien from the Anthology set. I was absolutely stunned how good those looked on my OLED

I just bought The Revenant in 4K. I haven’t watched it in 4K yet. It’s not Dolby vision but it got top marks from reviewers for the picture quality.

The old Sony 800x doesn't have Dolby vision the newer 800xm2 does have it though if that's the one you ment to say.
@@alexfernandez8083 Yeah, that's the one, my bad.. the one where you have to manually switch between HDR10 and Dolby. Also, TV is A8H; cell phone automatically put A8G🙄
@@juniorwalter9083 I got the Sony ubp-700 and the switching dolby vision on/off does get pretty annoying. I should of bought the oppo-203 when they were like half the price they're going for on eBay now.
@@alexfernandez8083 I don't know man, I'm not bothered with switching that much, but I always wanted Panasonic player.. problem is that it costs too much and it's hard to find where I live (EU, Croatia). This one is just fine; upscaler is great, smooth, quiet player.. other than switching issue i don't have any problems.
@@juniorwalter9083 I want to get a panasonic for the HDR optimizer function and also the oppo-203 to be able to play dolby vision files and a couple of other features of which I'm pretty sure it's still the only player capable of doing so. Panasonic is supposed to have the best picture quality though.

Hi Adam! I been having problems lately with my 4k blu-ray movies with Dolby Vision . The Panasonic ub820 won't read the disc tl. Its use to be playing well for 1 year . Any idea how to fix it. Do anyone know how to fix this issue. Thank you in advance!
I think Netflix gave Dolby Vision a bad perception. Once I got my Panasonic ub820 I was really able to appreciate Dolby vision. Also, I have not entered the projector game yet but it's a shame you can't get Dolby vision on a projector
look into hd fury. Theres a hack for u to get dolby vision to a projector through their boxes.

I have a Samsung Q80R (2019 model). This is a TV with essentially all the bells & whistles, sans Dolby Vision. What do you guys think I’m missing with a TV bereft of DV? I’m not going to buy a new TV anytime soon, but do you guys think it’s a strong upgrade from HDR 10+?
I bought an LG C9 OLED in 2020, hands down the best picture ive ever owned and ive had a few sonys,2099$ tho, so not cheap,paired with a nakamichi shockwafe 1299$ n 2 4k players ,panosonic 820 400$ n a sony ES1100 ,599$ . I collect n watch a lot of movies
Thanks, I strongly considered OLED over QLED back in 2019 but was scared off by screen burn-in talk around the OLED’s. Some people claim it’s a myth though. Any issues on your end?

@@ddc2957 yes ,got it at best buy 2 weeks after xmas it was on sale,not sure how much i saved but at least 300$, i had seen it as high as 2700$
@@ddc2957 i haven't experienced any yet,it has a pixel refresher in the menu,that i do once a month. And i try not to just leave it on if im not watchkng it, like setting the sleep timer. I did alot of research, and considered qled. I was even going to buy a sony ,but at the time it was 400$ more than the LG.SONY is android,n the LG is IOS, which one thing i dislike ,because airplay doesn't work as consistently as chromecast for like streaming hbo max. I play ps3 on it,watch a ton of movies,stream, so far no issues. The nakamichi is pretty bad ass too. Just watched pacific rim on 4k disc,awesome picture and the sound will sometimes scare ya,lol. Is Dolby Vision noticeably better than just HDR10? My TV can hit about 1200nits and supports Vision. I guess it depends more on the amount of grade past just HDR as it puts everything in the HDR10 container and then adds on what else it needs to.
I've compared the same disc with DolbyVision on and off in my TV settings and I think the difference is minimal between it and HDR10. I'm not rocking the best gear though, so maybe it's that. I have heard others say the same though.
@@travissorensen7614 I finally got a TV that could show the difference. Streaming I don’t think will really show me. My current player doesn’t support Vision so I would have to get a new one...it’s a pain since my TV also supports 10+
@@travissorensen7614 I've noticed that on my 55" Sony A9 OLED, the physical-media movies and Netflix content in Dolby Vision are usually much better than the non-Dolby Vision. So much so that, before I saw this video, I sorted my collection of 4K discs according to whether or not they are Dolby Vision. There are, however, some 4K discs that are exceptionally good IMO, even though they're not Dolby Vision. I would include The Matrix Trilogy and Blade Runner the Final Cut in that category.
@@CrashCarson14 I've noticed that on Netflix (I have the premium package, a Sony A9 OLED TV and 150Mb/s bandwidth) the Dolby Vision content is noticeably better, from a visual perspective, although it's not as good as the Dolby Vision on a 4k disc.

These movies don't say anything about Dolby Vision on the covers of the box. How do you know it's Dolby Vision before you buy it?

Same!!! If the audio is not thunderous/booming, or the even the score/soundtrack doesn’t kick, I can get easily taken out of the movie experience.✌🏼

The 4K UHD of Lawrence of Arabia looks great to me.
I must admit that 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are making me buy movies that I probably wouldn't normally watch. It's the sheer spectacle and the mind-blowing sound that provides immense entertainment. Heck - I even bought (and enjoyed) Godzilla King of the Monsters because of the rave reviews it got regarding visual quality and sound.
Do 4K remux mkv files preserve DV?
For about a year now but no player can play them reliably

I think the exact opposite to what this guy is saying. I do not like Dolby vision, it gives everything an orange dim? The picture don't pop, they are dull, HDR10, is the way to go, it makes the picture, sharp, bright, and colourful. Also, with Dolby vision, it cuts off my choice to adjust it the way I want. Steer clear of it.
Samsung needs to ditch the HDR10+. Let’s face it, the format is almost dead.
It's depressing how this list is mostly a collection of truly awful films.
