Still haven't watched this in full yet on 4k, but had a quick look, is it just me or was there a noticeable difference in quality between the standard shots on the farm, and the imax shots? The IMAX shots were stunning though. easily the best of the best. Not surprising given Nolan pioneered IMAX in Hollywood with The Dark Knight - which also looks absolutely stunning even on bluray.
@@mattr8750 yeah, significant quality drop in some of the non-imax scenes. I remember seeing it on IMAX when it was shown in theaters and I think the film was really shot that way.

Great choices! I think Sci-Fi is a genre that is meant to be experienced in the best format possible. From the list you mentioned my top 3 would be: Dune 2021, BR: 2049 and 2001
"Gemini Man", "Lucy", "Tenet (at least I think so)", "Godzilla vs. Kong" are some honorable mentions I can think of? Also, can you do a video with top "Fantasy" movies? Some movies I can think of are "The Wizard of Oz" and "300." I know that fantasy and sci-fi are almost the same thing but i'd like to see some kind of list regardless. A list of top animated movies like "Soul", "Toy Story 1-4", "The Lion King" and so on. Possibly separate cartoon animation and life-like animation. I like these videos. Keep em coming.
Solid list. Like seeing "Passengers" on here. A movie for which the "hot take" became the overriding reaction. Yes, it's ending is too neat for the complex moral questions thrown up by its story (though not nearly as egregiously as you might have heard, folks), but it's a handsomely mounted sci-fi drama, with two engaging leads, and a reasonably original concept. One that works pretty well in general. I only saw it in theatres, but I think I'll seek out the 4K disc on this recommendation.
It looks incredible on 4KBR; reference quality, demo disc. I also enjoy the film, having watched it several times already The ending was done in such a way that said "they had to end it somehow, and that's how they chose to do it".

They Live 7. The Thing 8. Blade Runner 9. Final Countdown 10. 2001
Blade Runner 2049 does look fantastic, but I would personally put the original Blade Runner 4K above it, it just looks STUNNINGLY gorgeous! That and 2001 are two of the very BEST 4K discs I have ever seen thus far IMO. And yeah, I do really love Flash Gordon as well (and not just because I'm a *massive* Queen fan lol :p)

Blade runner 2049 is a great 4K Blu-ray, but for me the original one ranks first on 4K for many reasons. The quality of the 4k transfer ( this is a somewhat old movie), it looks like being shot yesterday with an outstanding level of quality in term of details and colors. Same for the Dolby Atmos soundtrack. What a sound firework at any level. And what to say about the scenario, the filming and this huge Vangelis musical score.
Your channel is the reason I’m continuing my 4K collection. Thank you for all your videos. P.S love the pitch black shoutout. I’m a big fan and it’s nice to see it being represented.
Omitting the sci-fi 4K disc of all sci-fi 4K discs, the original Blade Runner, is straight up outrageous. That and 2001 are pretty much universally regarded as the two best science fiction 4Ks on the market. You could have put both Blade Runners. It is one of the top 10 4Ks of any genre, period. It's certainly much better than Lynch's Dune, and you had that on here twice. If you look at other reviews for it, everyone says the same that it is just astonishing and one of the best 4Ks available. It is one of the best looking movies ever shot, and it is one of the best restorations ever done. It also includes every single cut of the movie. I don't know if there is any other 4K collectors that would recommend Dune over Blade Runner on 4K, that is just plain silly.
Definitely wonky. Blade Runner was the standard for HD and remains the standard for UHD. It's such an amazing achievement. TBH tho, some of his picks are a bit esoteric. I've never seen some of the fringe remasters (The Final Countdown and Dune LOL) so I can't really refute these claims.

Can’t believe The Matrix didn’t make this list. That’s the eternal demo film for all formats. If these ten are that much better than The Matrix, guess I need to check them out.
I don't feel they're necessary better it's just some films already looked great on blu ray, a film like Predator gets more of a mention because of the restoration effort that went into the 4k was huge over previous format releases which generally ranged from looking average to really really bad, so sometimes it can be down to circumstances.
Gotta say that Pitch Black release was a HUGE upgrade, Arrow's Dune is on its way. The new Dune is an auto buy because I'm a Villeneuve fanboi, LOVED Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival. Alien is totally more sci fi than horror IMO. I actually never considered it horror. I never thought of Jaws as horror either. It was always a monster movie to me … like Kong… or Godzilla.
@@JeffRauseo . How is it more? I think people make the mistake of thinking sci-fi can’t have sub genres. I’d say Alien is more sci-fi thriller than sci-fi horror, but it does lean close to horror.
For mine Jaws & Alien are clearly horror films, in the case of Alien, set within a sci-fi frame. But the point of both movies is terror - to terrorise the audience. Alien isn’t meant as a thought provoking science fiction ponder an evil, & Jaws may have great characters & relationships but those aren’t it’s reason for being made.
My list: (I'm too torn on this to number them) Blade Runner - this movie looks like it got all the love it deserves Blade Runner 2049 (just incredible in UHD) Alien (next-level remaster) Close Encounters of the Third Kind (unreal film grain character) Tenet (smoothest grain structure ever) Ad Astra (next level OLED experience) 2001: A Space Odyssey (let's be honest this is probably number one) Dune (2021) (Can Villeneuve do no wrong?) Gattaca - extremely surprising restoration and beautiful on HDR Total Recall (the most surprising one, I assumed the quality of film stock in that era would be sub-par but the grain field of Total Recall is mesmerizing) Honorable mention: Interstellar, only because I find the changing aspect ratios not very appealing, but still, the film is gorgeous
I’m watching your 4K reviews to help me choose what to get. I did buy gremlins and goodfellas before seeing your reviews,so I switched those out. Gattaca Alien Blade Runner: The Final Cut Blade Runner 2049 Dune 2021 Men in Black District 9 Predator Arrival 2001: A Space Odyssey I'm wondering if Looper 4K and/or RoboCop 4K will replace any of my personal top 10.

Everything you said about Pitch Black is right. The Arrow 4K is the best version of the movie. One thing I also like is the amount of special features on that one as well
There's something heartwarming about a studio lavishing so much care and attention on a cult B-movie like The Final Countdown. I loved it as a kid -- and still love me some cheesy cinema goodness a la Flash Gordon -- so maybe it's time for a rewatch. I like to throw in discs that have tons of color, detail, and varied brightness. Pacific Rim, Thor: Ragnarok, Aquaman, Alita, that sort of thing. And I've seen 2001 via 70mm print at a film festival on a ginormous screen in a restored vintage theater that seats 1600. That's the proper way to see it if you ever get the chance.
Very good vid as usual, thanks ! Would be really nice if you'd show your tv presets, because depending of it, color grading and video quality can be very fluctuent and I would be curious of what are your favourits :o
Decent list. So many good ones that didn’t make it. The original Blade Runner runner should definitely be on there though. Easily in my top 5 UHD disc’s of all time, it’s that good!
Agree with your list as I already have most of them. Unfortunately, here in Canada, it is hard to source some of the titles. Even online. For example, I would love to get my hands on The Final Countdown but the best price I can get is $89 CDN.
This is why I can't wait for the internet to catch up to the levels needed so we can just ditch physical for good. If you don't live in the states, say a prayer.

There is. I have the 3-movie version on my shelf (they did a 4-movie collection that includes Shane Black's "The Predator" as well). I would argue monster movies like Godzilla, King Kong, and jaws are like a brand or horror movie: like a subgenre.
My list: (I'm too torn on this to number them)
Blade Runner - this movie looks like it got all the love it deserves
Blade Runner 2049 (just incredible in UHD)
Alien (next-level remaster)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (unreal film grain character)
Tenet (smoothest grain structure ever)
Ad Astra (next level OLED experience)
2001: A Space Odyssey (let's be honest this is probably number one)
Dune (2021) (Can Villeneuve do no wrong?)
Gattaca - extremely surprising restoration and beautiful on HDR
Total Recall (the most surprising one, I assumed the quality of film stock in that era would be sub-par but the grain field of Total Recall is mesmerizing)
Honorable mention: Interstellar, only because I find the changing aspect ratios not very appealing, but still, the film is gorgeous
Damn, Blade Runner 2049 is getting a lot of praise on this channel. Definitely going to need to check it out!
Yes. It's probably my best looking disc.
The original Blade Runner in 4K is jaw droppingly good looking. Make sure to pick that one up too if u don't have it already
I’m watching your 4K reviews to help me choose what to get. I did buy gremlins and goodfellas before seeing your reviews,so I switched those out. There’s a deal on at the moment at hmv ( 3 4k’s for £30 ). So I got apocalypse now, fury and the matrix, these I have seen your reviews for. I don’t have a 4K T.V or player at the moment,I’m buying for the future. Keep those review coming.👍
I highly recommend Space Adventure Cobra The Movie. It’s an old Japanese anime but the HDR makes the colors really pop especially in Vivid mode. The visuals are amazing

-Interstellar
-Star Wars
-Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
-E.T.
-The Incredible Hulk

I'm wondering if Looper 4K and/or RoboCop 4K will replace any of my personal top 10.
I'm loving this top ten by genre series! Keep up the good work!
Do you own valerian and the city of a thousand planets on 4k? Its got some of the best visials ever.
Great list 💯 what video editing software do you happen to use?
Love these lists videos. Keep em’ coming 👍👍
Another excellent list. Glad to see Passengers make the cut. War of the Worlds, Tom Cruise version, is also a good one. Speaking of war, any chance you will do a list for that genre?
Star Trek: The Motion Picture 4K Remastered? Beautiful movie in 4K and the remastered THD Atmos audio track is stunning.
Great list! Just upgraded to 4k format and building my collection off some of your recommendations and you're always spot on! Just ordered 2001 Space Odyssey off the back of this. Keep up the great work! 👌👍
Good luck building your collection hope it goes well for you, can get some bargains now on 4k I always buy them when they first come out so it’s been pretty expensive for me so far
same here :)
@@bedroomcinemaguy5568 same. I buy alot soon as they come out. I enjoy my collection though.
@@bigdadd09able just had a couple off new 4k Blu-rays delivered this morning Dune steel book edition and Ghostbusters Afterlife both should be fun to watch it’s sometimes a risk paying between £20 to £30 for a movie on 4k but I think I’ll be fine with these two
Everything you said about Pitch Black is right.
Predator 4K is great. Love that movie and even more in 4K.
Passengers video quality is amazing. So clean and sharp!
Awesome list! 100% agree on your love for Blue Underground. Those guys are doing crazy good work.
Very good vid as usual, thanks ! Would be really nice if you'd show your tv presets, because depending of it, color grading and video quality can be very fluctuent and I would be curious of what are your favourits :o
Great choices. As a matter of interest, what 4k player do you have?
OK, OK, I'll buy Final Countdown. Haven't seen it in forever, but you seem to praise it every few videos, so I'm sold.
Decent list. So many good ones that didn’t make it. The original Blade Runner runner should definitely be on there though. Easily in my top 5 UHD disc’s of all time, it’s that good!
Best topic ever!
Love prometheus.Great list.
Agree with your list as I already have most of them. Unfortunately, here in Canada, it is hard to source some of the titles. Even online. For example, I would love to get my hands on The Final Countdown but the best price I can get is $89 CDN.
Unobstructed View has it in stock for $72 CAD.
@@derrickmcleod9549 lol Daylight robbery.
I have the same problem in México
Agreed. Being a collector in Canada sucks big time.
This is why I can't wait for the internet to catch up to the levels needed so we can just ditch physical for good. If you don't live in the states, say a prayer.
Awesome list! You are my go to when looking up 4k reviews or any home theater questions I have.
Passenger is a fantastic movie, love it
I bought Final Countdown in 4k for my home theater, and it IS AMAZING!
I HAVE A Sony 385es Native 4k projector with a SONY STR-DN1080 4K 7.2 165w/Ch DOLBY ATMOS DTS Receiver, and a Sony 800M2 4k player, and ALL Klipsch speakers, 504 c ll Center Channel, 2 Klipsch R-12SWi Powered Wireless Subwoofer, 2 KLIPSCH 8000F II towers, and Klipsch in wall surround, with kilpsch Dolby Atmos ceiling speakers.
Amazing Experience, it took me 2 years to save and buy all this from ebay!
Battleship 4k is a MUST to watch!
Loving these lists!
Great picks. I haven’t seen Pitch Black since it came out and now you have me curious to see it in 4k with Dolby Vision!
Watch it. Pitch Black was great. Now I'm waiting for Chronicles of Riddick.
Love the channel. I rarely buy until you've done a review. Please can you do a review of the great escape on 4k
Keep up it up. I’m diggin the top 10 genre videos.
Really cool list. Stay safe after that storm.
Hard to take this list seriously without The Thing on it. An amazing film with an outstanding new 4k transfer done recently.
Well it’s hard to have The Thing on the list when this video was made before that disc came out
My top 4k list sci-fi that I have are
Predator 4k
Lucy 4k
Total recall 4k
Starship troppers 4k
Oblivion 4k
The fifth element 4k
Ghost in the shell 2017 4k
The matrix trilogy 4k set
Alita 4k.
Imagine there’s someone out there still watching VHS who’s about to jump into 4K. I envy them.
THE CIA GOT YOU PUSHING TOO MANY PENCILS !
Great list. I'm looking forward to your action list. That's my personal favorite genre :)
On the Predator 4K, is it still a low-res blurry shot when they're shooting the forest down with the minigun? That really stood out to me on the bluray.
Some great choices and I own all of them as well. Flash Gordon was a standout for me as it has never looked this good. Alien also superb in 4K. But I'm surprised you left off Oblivion...it's a crisp 4K transfer and one of my standout 4K disks. But a seriously great top 10.
It's a common opinion that the Oblivion 4k looks worse than the blu-ray version. I personally have not bought the 4k disc because of all the reviews and comments I've read about it. It's a fantastic movie.
Oblivion- what a great flick.
Bro Jeff. Your rocking the fit, the style, the drip, and also these are good movies

Probably as an import if it does exist but it has a US release date for 2/15/22
Great list man
Star Trek into Darkness and the IMAX scenes are absolutely incredible on 4K Bluray
Yeah but it’s a shit film.
Pacific rim is amazing in 4k. Thats a good one to watch
Just watched it again the other day. Pure eye and ear candy.
Great stuff, thank you. I wish they had a good 4k of Logans Run, a big favorite of mine.
Can’t believe I just found your channel, good stuff.
Welcome!
Final Countdown is one of My Favorite Movies - Period !! I was so excited when they did it in BluRay it was Wow. So I was expecting only a small upgrade in the 4K - Wow & Wow - a Huge Upgrade in picture and sound. I have a nice surround sound system . Pioneer Elite Kuro plasma TV , Marantz 8000 Tuner Amp with the high end Polk LSI center , Towers and rear Dipoles speakers. The other Movie that was a Huge upgrade with great Packaging is "Wild Things" . Love all your reviews .......
Not sure how long the list would actually be but would love to see a top Documentaries list... Thanks for the great content!
hey you seem pretty smart about 4k.is renting bladerunner 2049 digitally on my pc in 4k the same as watching it on a 4k disc the same or is it even close
Luv it can u do top comic book/super hero movies ?
Thanks !!
Honorable mentions:
The Matrix
Interstellar
I didn't really care about 4k until I got a digital projector with a 12ft screen. When the tv size is below 65, I really can't tell the difference. I watched the Alien 4k restored version and that movie never looked better. Bram Stoker's Dracula looked great also. I'm a big admirer of filmmaking craft, from the cinematography to music and looking at beautifully restored movies is a really good way to enjoy that.
Blade Runner 2049 is the reason I still hold hope 🙏 for a good Terminator 2 sequel. That director (DV) + the future war setting of 2029
Im giving this list a 7 out of 10 for obvious reason.
I bet Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) looks incredible.
A couple honorable mentions.
The original Matrix.
Star Trek Into Darkness
I'd even throw Rouge One on there.
A sci-fi movie not yet remastered in 4k I would love to see made is Prometheus.
Alita battle angel
Brilliant reviews
Warner Bros always has the best 4K Blu-ray’s 😃
Whenever I wanna show off my 4K tv’s true potential, I always pop in any of the Warner bros 4K Blu-ray’s and it always makes my friend’s jaws drop lol😂😂
Best 4Ks! I hope they don’t stop making them!
Great list.
You got guts with that No. 1 (and that's a compliment)
Dennis is the best director for me from the last 10 years.
Transformers movies looks incredible in 4K. Especially from 3 and onward, those that are shot on real 4K digital cameras. The best is «the last knight» which is shot with stunning 8K cameras which makes the resolution look phenomenal.
I think there is a predator 4k collection with the rest of the sequels on 4k.
There is. I have the 3-movie version on my shelf (they did a 4-movie collection that includes Shane Black's "The Predator" as well).
I'm thinking what he *might* have meant is INDIVIDUAL RELEASES of the sequels because, at present, only the original is available separately, but then again he did say "see the sequels on 4K" so I don't know what he's thinking.
