  • 1962 Ford Galaxy 500 located in our Louisville showroom. This completely correct 62 Galaxie is 1 of only 400 4 speed big block cars that was built in 62. The restoration of this 62 500 was completely documented with photographs and the majority of receipts. Pop the hood and you will see Fords first 400+ cubic inch motor to be stuffed into a passenger car, the 406. It is all stock except for a couple chrome pieces. All internals are original and meet factory specs as far as compression and bore. The 405 horse cranking out of the motor was matched up with the original Borgs Warner 4 speed transmission. The interior was completely redone with the factory original run vinyl. This is not remanufactured vinyl but New Old Stock or NOS as it is commonly referred to. All of the badgeing on the vehicle is either original or NOS as well. The vehicle also comes with a complete book of photos and receipts that document the meticulous restoration of this very rare vehicle. If you would like a piece of true automobile history this will be a great addition. To view this 1962 Galaxie 500, it can be seen at www.gatewayclassiccars.com or call at 812-294-1555 for more information.

We had a 62 1/2 Galaxie XL 500 with every option. A.C., power windows, police light, remote trunk release, 3 speed automatic, am radio, twin rear antennae, rubber tipped crash bumpers, it was white with a blue interior. Big block FE engine too. It was supposed to be mine, but dad left her in Switzerland because he didn't want to pay for shipping! I will never forgive him on that one decision!

I had a black one but not an XL. 390. auto. and dual Thrush mufflers. Mellow sound and not too loud. Still have the hub caps ans star from the grill.

    Really nice car
I owned a 1963 Galaxie XL with power steering and brakes. I really enjoyed it. It had the 390 in it and had good power.

About three, no I think it's four that owned a car like this one and I've road in and owned some muscle cars back in the day but I have never seen anything else like a 62 Ford Galaxy with the legendary 406 and the high performance car like this one and I have never seen anything else that would run with it, they are very rare because they only made 500 of them the first year and I don't have any information on the next year!!!!!!!
