Interesting Thomas, thanks! Would you happen to have an available archieve (e.g. as pdfs) of all the lens sharpness test you have done? And perhaps a detailed description of your procedure for making them? Both would be very helpful in my opinion!
I plan to get them up on my website eventually. And if you check out my "fujis best wide-angle lens" video I go into quiet a bit of detail about how to test lenses in that.
Would love to see more GF Lens reviews/tests. Specifically between the 23, 30, and 45mm for astro (I know 45mm on MF is narrow for Astro but it's the widest aperture lens technically still in the wide space)
I have done those test and got horrific results, I’m unsure if it’s the sensor or because the lenses aren’t bright enough, but without a tracking Astro on GF I think just doesn’t work
ohhh looking forward to your GFX lens reviews. personally looking forward to the 50mm lens , if its as fast or faster etc for street photography stuff or the other 45 or 30 are better for the sacrifice of size etc. anyways. yeah the GFX lens were not a beauty compared to the Hazzelblad lens though from what I've tried from a friend's Hazzel and GFX cameras from local camera stores, the faster focus i've experience makes the less than desirable looks worth for the speed. totally think the lens hood should get the square hood style like the APSC primes like the 16mm lens hood etc. though I do hope you can pick up and test some 3rd party manual focus GFX mount lens ones i have in mind are 1st : Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 Lens for Fujifilm G 2nd : Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 65mm f/1.4 Lens for Fujifilm G
Yes a square hood would have saved it. I own the 50mm so will make sure to do some more testing on AF speed for you. I have a viewer of the channel sending me a bunch of not fuji lenses to test on the gfx but unfortunately none of them are the ones you mentioned unfortunately. But I appreciate the support mate and hope you enjoy the future videos
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography oh yes any none GFX lens and im assuming maybe more analog old film lens to test will be interesting as well. anyways will be looking forward to your videos and Van updates as well.
Great series, looking forward to seeing how the 32-64mm zoom stacks up over its range against the primes. I’m not sure if it’s possible, but with a 45-100, 100-200... maybe we get a wide xx-45 at some stage in the future as well.
Or the Canon T/S 24mm F3.5. Neither very fast but wide and wider. I use the Canon (with the Techart adapter) for architecture and it works very well on the 50R with excellent sharpness and no vignetting. I have not spent time enough on the 100 to say if the lens can manage the 102MP. The whole thing is a bit expensive. The Laowa is very wide with well controlled distortion, but not as sharp as the GS lens ( but also much cheaper). Thanks for your excellent reviews and your good work
I have tested the laowa for astro and got shocking results unfortunately, it's either not bright enough or there is something nwith the sensor that I don't understand that doesn't work with astro
Another great review - thanks Thomas! Unfortunately, though, I'm fully invested in the X series and I can't afford to get in to a 2nd system. I loved the X series reviews, but I think your GF/X series videos will only give me a severe case of GAS. That said, I'll probably still watch them all anyway 😀
Your X/Y sharpness graphs shows no hard definition for "sharpness" and no performance changes in f-stops before f/8. That makes your findings highly suspect.
What do you mean by hard definition? And my test found it very consistent before f8, which surprised me as well, as most (but not all) other lens did. But being very consistent before f/8 isn't unheard off
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography No lens is going to have the same performance wide open vs stopped down 1 or 2 stops. Your vertical Y axis has no definition like lines/mm, MTF50 etc. Therefore in my mind your test is very suspect.
On a much much closer expecting there might be a small change (but not that I could notice on a 4k screen at 1100% zoom) but the tests are done on a mtf chart and that's what my tested showed. It's not common but from testing a ton of lenses it's not unheard of for consistent early aperture performance. I never added the lines/mm to the graph as I didn't think most people would understand it (from a XF perspective) but for GF lens graphs it would be a great idea thank you. When I compared to 30mm to future lenses I'll make sure to show the 30mms graphs with the hard definition.
yay more GF lens reviews soon
Getting two or three more all at once in October (the wider options) and I'll review my personal 50mm as soon as I get a spare week

This isn't the GF review I was expecting

I'm hunting for a good gfx astro lens, from any company, I should have mentioned that in the video as I'd love suggestions
Sorry just found this video. The Laowa 17 mm F4

A review with only ONE photo.... pffff
Thank you for your constructive feedback
That is the poor-man's version of the Fuji GF23mm :)
Great work mate. Looking forward to more on GFX lenses. Sent you an email about lens testing.
Cheers man, I'll check it out now
