Today I covering three samples I bought from Essenza Nobile in Germany including Olibanum and Sorriso by Profumum Roma and MAAI by Bogue.

Two intriguing brands. Profumum Roma Ambre Aurea is top 5 for me, and I’ve liked everything else I’ve tried from the brand, which is rare, right?
Bogue has proven too offbeat for me, but still glad to see them getting some attention.
That is rare! Apparently bogue has a lavender I need to try
@@RichMitch Is MEM the lavender one? It was a scrubber for me, but this brand seems to swing for the fence, as us Yanks say, so they’re not a brand to elicit anything but strong opinions.
Owned both the Bogues once. MEM was too thick and old mannish for me. A bit like cough mixture as well and didn’t think if lavender when I smelt it even though it is central. Becomes very civity on drydown
Ambre Aurea was my fav PR. Very labdanum heavy and felt ultimately not much else to it
I'd agree with that. I tried to like it in the same way I tried to like Le Lion and Shalimar but I couldn't get my head around them either
Great sniffs, though with Maai it really doesn't show all in a few minutes.... definitely needs to be on skin and then given time. On me it progresses through a number of stages. I was like you to begin with, not sure if it was for me. Temperature too, I've noticed affects how it transitions.
Most definitely Vintage inspired in its make up, that is obvious alike Liz's Salome and Barbara's Ma Bête that I've been harping on about for over a year. Where Maai differs in that it pushes further rather than settling as another vintage inspired Chypre.
Give it time it will bloom , however it's not suitable for those who don't appreciate Vintage or are not curious.
I read somewhere that the current version isn't on par with the original release.

I do like and own several Bogue perfumes and MAAI is the first one I owned. As for Profumum Roma, I only have two from that House and neither was Sorriso or Olibanum. The Olibanum sounds more interesting to me. I have sampled several of their perfumes and liked several, but the price point is fairly high, although now probably no more than most niche fragrances.
The olibanum smells like Tam Dao now, huge cedarwood. Quite disappointed by these today
I recall it smelled similar to Arso which I owned once.

I can only assume my sample of Maai was not in good condition, as I didn't get any of those notes from it. Just mainly smoke/burning. Shame about the chocolate one, as that sounded promising.
I was slightly upset at sorriso too, just crappy vanilla 😔

I just tried my Maai sample again the other day. It’s a wonderful scent to smell and dissect intellectually but I would never wear it. Much prefer Papillon’s Salome, or vintage Mitsouko, or Chypre Palatin or something.
Luca Turin slightly prefers MEM which he rated 5 stars. Wore that the other day and that is much more wearable, IMO. Still don’t think it’s FB worthy for my tastes. I have a vintage ‘80’s Rochas Femme PDT on the way however that I think I might enjoy from time to time…
I've got like 4 bottles of femme Rochas, of varying ages from 70s to 90s. I actually wore it this week. It is absolutely fantastic.
Niche isn't really my thing, as I'm discovering as I try more and more sample sets. I'll be trying some Heeley tomorrow along with the new zoologist Harvest Mouse and diptyque vetyverio EDT

@@scottmcarronlewis well, my favourite is the bottle that looks a bit like the Lauder For Men one. like a tower. That's my favourite, think it's 80s.

MAAI 🫤 not for me, not vtg smelling. Smells like eucalyptus in the opening and then some flowers.
