While listening to Mitch it occured to me making a male/unisex designer releases list, summarizing what I'd consider the 'more interesting ones' (left out all the bleus, amberwoody sweet bombs, etc, except Sauvage Elixir lol)... not many for an 8 year span, it would be interesting to make one from 20 or 30 years ago releases 2016 Guerlain L’homme Ideal EDP 2016 Cartier L’envol EDP 2016 Issey Miyake L’eau d’Issey Noir Ambré 2017 Gucci Guilty Absolute 2017 Valentino Uomo Noir Absolu 2017 Prada L’homme Intense 2017 Tom Ford Noir Anthracite 2017 Lalique Ombre Noire 2018 Tom Ford Ombre Leather EDP 2018 Prada Luna Rossa Black 2018 Cartier Declaration Parfum 2018 Aramis Tobacco Reserve 2018 Rochas Moustache EDP 2018 Hermes Terre Eau Intense Vetiver 2018 D&G The One Mysterious Night 2019 Moschino Toy Boy 2019 Gucci Memoir d’une Odeur 2019 Loewe 7 Plata 2020 Guerlain L’homme Ideal Extreme 2020 Tom Ford Beau de Jour EDP 2020 Tom Ford Black Orchid Parfum 2020 Hermes L’Ombre des Merveilles 2021 Dior Sauvage Elixir 2021 Hermes H24 2022 Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Privée 2022 Hermes Terre Eau Givree 2022 Tom Ford Noir Extreme Parfum 2023 Lalique Encre Indigo 2023 Guerlain Habit Rouge Rouge Privee 2023 Gucci Guilty Elixir de Parfum 2024 Guerlain L’homme Ideal Parfum 2024 Guerlain Habit Rouge Parfum
So the same trend in movies, TV, and every other form of entertainment is also happening to fragrance? i.e. no ingenuity, originality, unqiue traits, etc. It's all just "how about a remake but a little shittier?" Or a lot shittier.
I never fell into the niche BS scamming ppl left and right. Designer is dead I've only bought 1 fragrance this year and regretted it. I have a large collection. F the greedy fucks and the garbage they've been putting out. Great video
Great video. And fantastic passion and articulation of some very important Fucken points in the industry. I’m disillusioned with the perfume world at the moment and I haven’t bought anything in a long time after being obsessed for 6 years. I suppose like most industries though, (music, fashion, etc) they have all gone to shit and they take us as plebs. I’m boycotting perfume.
The last interesting high street purchase for me was boss bottled elixir that was right up my alley, incense and good performance. I walk through boots nowadays and laugh at the 3 figure prices and don’t even test any new stuff it’s all caramel and bubblegum gash. I’m into lattafa and Al rehab for strong and interesting frags. Keep up the good channel
This one hits quite hard: Nothing is what it used to be. Our corporate overlords are having a laugh at all of us. I was hoping that at least the new 'classic' Guerlain releases would be good this year... Love the "your mamma" joke, though. Fight the good fight mate!
Spot on, I started late 2018 and I noticed how mainstream niche and most designers keep upping their prices but they smell cheaper and poorer. I used to love going to stores to smell even designers early on, now I skip these stores and do not even want to go in as its the same smell, even if they use total different ingredients, they end up smelling the same. And niche are just releasing their version of designers that are slight improvements but for the price its not worth it. And multiple price hikes per year, FM retails 160 euros for 100ml, same bottles are now 100 euros more and smell neutered. Amouage is a joke. Imagine this, Areejes (on release) are cheaper than some niche and they use actual real rare ingredients, how start is that, paying 500 for a cheap synthetic mess that actually costs maybe 15 euros to make if not less and they charge hundreds and the drones of idiots that eat that shit up and defend these practices is so fucking sad.
Echoing my sentiments from last decade. 🌍 Most people past a certain age still aren't ready to learn the truth and probably never will be. They'll fight you tooth and nail to actively prevent themselves from learning it 'till their dying day. I see it happening across a multitude of academic and social fields. Fantasies are just more comfortable and long-term investments require justification and validation. Learning that we've been pursuing a fiction our entire lives is often too much of a shock and can lead to mental and behavioural instability. Morpheus wasn't wrong when he said that he did what he did...because he had to. With the advent of the information age, it was only a matter of time before another engineered transition would be implemented to ensure continued administration over a managed species. 🤝 After all, how can you have a new world without arduous public insistence that the old one end? The machines knew what they were doing. It wasn't their first time around the wheel...and they've become increasingly..efficient..at it. 😂 Tipsy meanderings. 🥃 Cheers.
What infuriates me is that it’s not impossible to make something of quality, even with stricter regulations. I like and agree with Michael Edwards but also share your frustration and appreciate you speaking up
Fragrance DOUD said fantasm should be in the running for designer fragrance of the year. I don't think he was lying, but he does have weird taste to me. Who knows..
I've smelled it many times and it is vastly inferior imo but if you like it you should get it! It's your money, you wear and it and be happy! This is just my opinion, it's not the only one and yours is the one that matters 🫡
@@RichMitch I just picked up a bottle of Rogue's Bon Monsieur! Trying to do my part for (non-bullshit) indie companies, which seem to be very few and far between...

@@RichMitch Something you absolutely *can* get a hold of by the way: "Special for Gentlemen" by Le Galion [the remake, not the mid-20th century version]. It pretty much blew my knob clean off when I first smelled it! Ambery/barbershoppy fougere done right. I think you'd love it in the cooler months.
Been dead awhile to be honest. It's all just big corporate perfume, designer, niche, luxury, doesn't matter when the same multi-billion dollar conglomerate is just switching out masks at the counters.
You are absolutely right, unfortunately. it's like that game with the three cups and the ball underneath one, except there's more cups every time you want to play and still just one ball ☹️

The only concern these big companies have is making a profit. They’re not really concerned about the artistry anymore.

The cool thing is most of us who care already have loads of fragrance, so we can just skip the profit seeking price hikes
