    What I’d like to see? I’d like to know how that snowflake food is made. Got a feeling you may already have that in the archives but if you point me in the eight direction then I’ll gladly give that a look.
    All the tanks look gorgeous btw. Love that last one too. Was that a 10 gallon tank? And what are the snowballs? Is that another caradina variety?
    Thanks for sharing!

    Be careful with highly planted tanks, especially with high intensity LEDs, I was getting crazy PH fluctuations, almost a 2 point difference within 24 hours, from 6.8 to almost 9! This was due to massive oxygen production during the day raising PH, and massive CO2 production at night. Luckily I caught it because I was playing with my new digital PH gauge and could easily take samples throughout the day. If I was using my standard vial test, I wouldn't have caught it. I fixed the issue by lowering my LEDs intensity by 50% & removing about 1/4 of the anacharis floating at the top of my tank. PH stabilized to around 7.0 - 7.3 throughout the day now.

      I would be lying if i told you i ever checked my water parameters. It's been 6 months since I have checked anything but the tds in any of my tanks

    • @gpaje
      @gpaje 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SooShrimpBreeders Maybe once in a while :) What's interesting is that this was probably going on for months, and neither the fish or the shrimp in that tank seemed to be having issues, fish were laying eggs and my Neocaridina were having tons of shrimplets.

    • @WalksOnBeats
      @WalksOnBeats 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      add something to break the surface of the water like a bubbler. that will help keep the co2 levels stable

    • @gpaje
      @gpaje 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WalksOnBeats Thanks for the idea, though I have a pretty good surface agitation. I essentially ran into trouble when I went essentially double with my full spectrum LED lighting. It's down now to standard level, my PH stays consistent now.

    Hi Nathan, what snails do you use in your Caradina tanks (CRS specifically)? As MTS die, will they pollute the water? Do you always have to pick out dead snails?

    • @SooShrimpBreeders
      @SooShrimpBreeders  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use rams and mts...they die but the left over shell is calcium for them so I leave the shells in there. They all die in my caridina tanks.

    • @ShawnHineidi
      @ShawnHineidi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SooShrimpBreeders why do they all die? is it because too low TDS, PH or what? I have clithon corona snails in my tank and two of them died recently and I believe its due to low PH (6.4) so any advise?

    What are your thoughts on the lineage of Bloody Mary? How can you tell the difference between them and Painted Fire Red? I've seen red flesh vs. red carapice, length of rostrum, etc. I have a group that was sold to me as Bloody Mary but I've had people comment that they are cherrys. Some young shrimp look as they are supposed to but some babies are more clear like a cherry but color up to be darker red. I've also read that sometimes males take longer to color up. If they are high grade cherrys, when should I be culling to ensure lower grades to mate back with the higher grades. Or do I wait to see if they are just males? I'm just curious as I haven't found credible info and since people like to label things inaccurately, or make up names to make the shrimp sound cooler as to command a higher price. Thoughts? Sorry for the long question.

    • @SooShrimpBreeders
      @SooShrimpBreeders  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine have the short rostrum. I can say that some do look like painted fire reds. I will eventually just call them cherries i feel. Since they almost sell for the same price i'm half tempted to just do just that.

    • @swatch12345
      @swatch12345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SooShrimpBreeders I wasn't trying to question the name of yours really. I'm just curious at to what people's views are or if there's a scientific way to tell. Do you cull yours? If so, at what size? Have you noticed any babies starting out lower grade looking and then coloring up as they get older? Beautiful shrimp either way :)

    • @SooShrimpBreeders
      @SooShrimpBreeders  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@swatch12345 I do notice that I do not have to cull them very often as far as lineage unless you know you don't know. So it's so hard to know
