- In this video, I unbox, test out, and review the HP 27" ES display. How does it fair in competition against the long outdated Apple Thunderbolt Display?**
**I realize the Apple Display is a 1440p display whereas this is a 1080p display, but the color and look of the display feels really similar between the two and honestly it looks great ok? ok.

⚠️NOTE⚠️: There are two monitor models that are very similar from the HP lineup. The different models are "ES," which I showed in this video and "ER." The "ES" model of the HP monitors is the better of the two due to a faster display response time of 7ms whereas the "ER" model is 14ms. They're both priced the same and all of the other specs between the two are nearly exactly the same. I would suggest doing some research between the two before purchasing yourself...but I personally chose the ES series model due to the low response time, and the price. Great review, I just bought one...
I got the 27er, and has some nasty IPS GLOW. Commonly seen in cheap IPS screens. But this only occurs when you display black screens with the backlight on higher setting. Also the display wobbles when i type on my keyboard. And it's not a retina screen ofcource, but upside is you don't have to be close to the screen to read stuff properly.

For the brightness you can change color tone
Hi Carson I went with the 24 in EA display by HP. Basically the same thing but with bulit in audio. In my opinion a better replacement for the Apple Thunderbolt due to built in audio. Thinking of upgrading to 27 inch EA as I want a little more screen real estate. But availbity of that one seems to be an issue. Overall I found it be a really good display.

Hey Carson! Thank you so much for making this video.. You've just made my mind up and I'm hours away from getting my hands on this bad boy! ...One thing really quickly though, I've just done some research on the "es" and "er" models as mentioned in your description, however I've double checked everywhere online and it seems the only difference between the two is that one has a white glossy back, and one has a black back! Just wanted to see if that's something you already knew or not! :)

I have a rookie question! If I connect my macbook air to any 1080p monitor, whether the output will be 1080p or mac air resolution (1,440 x 900 )?
I own this monitor but mine has amd free sync it's 75hz ips & etc. I use my 4k hp envy in 1080p & it's fine to me just that the monitor gets dusty easy & the power brick I don't see why they don't just use one cord to plug into the wall & plug that into the monitor.

Hey! I need some help. Please can you help me.. I have a 15” MacBook Pro connected to my HP monitor but the resolution isn’t right. It’s underscan and I can’t figure out how to fix it.
System Preferences > Displays > Display > Scaled > Change to 1080p/720p/etc. If the option you want doesn’t appear, change back to “Default for Display” and then WHILE HOLDING the option key, left click on Scaled again and it will show more resolution options. Hope this helps!
It doesn't power your Macbook, it has lower resolution, it doesn't have speakers, it doesn't have 3 USB (2.0) ports, a Firewire, (800) a Thunderbolt (2 I guess) and a Gigabit Ethernet port. It also has lower resolution, is plastic made and has lower color fidelity compared to Apple's Thunderbolt Display.
Well, I work with photos, art direction and some video editing. I wouldn't change my Apple Thunderbolt for this monitor. It really looks nice, but it's not for me and what I work with. My best

It's a glossy finish very similar to any MacBook Pro screen :)

It is not glass, but it is glossy!
Would you recommend for editing and filmmaking?
It’s worked for me. I’m not totally sure as to how accurate the colors are on this screen though so you’d have to do more research in that sense if you plan on doing a bunch of color grading. Hope this helps!

This monitor is a rebrand of the asus mx27. I hope to hell HP tweaked the design because the asus has a lot of problems. From personal experience the asus had overheating issues sudden dying problems.

It can work, but you need to purchase a USB-C to HDMI adapter.

Hello, I know that this screen does not have speakers, with the macbook closed, work the bluetooth speakers connected to the macbook?
Yep! As long as your MacBook is connected to power when plugged into the monitor via HDMI (when the screen is closed), then bluetooth speakers and literally everything else will work! I use this method of setup all the time ;)

Awesome, you’ll love it! Also, I actually went for a wired solution that sounds amazing. In my current setup, I’ve been using the AudioEngine A2+ speakers which have great sound quality and really manage to pack a lot of punch into such small speakers!

It’s just a standalone monitor so yes, you’ll need some sort of input device whether that be a laptop, desktop, or other form of input

I have the 24f and I can see lines of interlacing pixels even if I'm far from it, I can't imagine how bad the resolution is on a 27"
they didn't add speakers because the quality would be shit. Name me one cheap monitor that has very nice speaker quality. I've searched alot and everyone says on different monitors the sound is shitty so they buy external speaker. So i get they just left it out, why add something that people wouldnt use?
Nice flat looking panel and relatively small bezels, but the only problem is the low resolution 1080P. I can't believe there are no decent 4k monitors with thin bezels out there... I haven't found any so far.
Yeah same. I’ve grown used to the 1080p resolution but if I would be to purchase another monitor anytime soon, I’ll make sure that they are at least 1440p or higher if I get a 27” display. The quality on this screen isn’t bad, especially when sitting ~2-3 ft away from it in which case you don’t notice the quality but if you get closer than that, the 1080p is really noticeable. If you do happen to find any good budget 4K monitors, let me know!
do you have any experience with any QHD or UHD monitors...i want to get a 27'' 4k but i have read that the text will be very tiny and some programs dont scale up the text quite right..Now im thinking of going QHD since its kinda middle between 1080hd and 4k UHD..Also my 23'' monitor i have now is glossy screen , but i dont think in my shopping around i have seen one glossy, they are all matte..I liked my glossy screen

I ended up buying this same monitor but when I hooked my 2012 macbook up to it the image on the screen was stretched like almost zoomed in. I tried to message with the resolution but no luck any advice?
My guess is that you are not choosing 1440p in the options.
Settings then choose size.

This will be my only monitor and it will be connected to a new M1 Mac Mini 16 gig computer. I have a Bose Soundlink 2 for a great speaker and a Wacom tablet for my trackpad. Add in a hub with a Samsung T5 ssd and voila, the beginning of a killer new system. I also have a Logitec MX keyboard & matching mouse. I'm ready to rumble for under $1500. :)
