Linea Micra from La Marzocco - A Drop In Review (my top 3 features)

  • Today we take a quick look at the new(ish) Linea Micra espresso machine from La Marzocco - the smaller, quieter, and cheaper iteration of their Linea Mini. I forgot to mention in the video but the price of the Linea Micra in Spain is €2.800,00 pretax, compared to the Linea Mini which is about €1100 more, depending which country you're buying in. I also didn't get a chance to show the water tank underneath (in case you don't have it plumbed in), but it basically covers the whole footprint of the Linea Micra and is more than enough water for a few days of shots for home.

    Nice video❤I own a Mirca and always use bottomless option to look at shot quality. Best feature is fast heat up and how compact Mirca is for saturated group head. All comparable machines in size are E61 group heads designs.

    Hi, so for the video, did you have your pump set at 9 bars? And do you recommend needing to lower the BAR on it for lighter roasts?

    Use the app to turn the machine on from bed when I wake up. By the time I make it to the kitchen , machine is ready to go.

    Great video, I have a Micra and love it. Tend to use the bottomless all the time unless splitting a shot to share with two smaller cups. Still can't believe how fast it warms up. We've integrated ours with Home Assistant too, so we can track the temperatures on it and automate the on/off a bit more than in the app etc. Have also setup some Philips Hue buttons (via home assistant) to switch the machine on/off and backflush so I don't have to faff with my phone and their app. I tend to use the timer on my scales rather than my phone too, just for ease.

      I'm a total beginner and thinking of getting one of the mini or micra.. if money wasnt the issue would u still get micra and will this be a problem using for beginners
      . really want to learn and figured idont want to keep upgrading

    • @MihaiCostiug
      @MihaiCostiug 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@execatty if you really want to learn and get better, probably starting with a cheaper machine makes more sense. That's because you will actually understand the limitations and which features make sense for you or not (as an actual user, not as a TH-cam dreamer, like I often am myself). If you have the money and you're convinced you're gonna stay in this game for 5-10 years, then there's nothing wrong in getting this. At the end of the day, enjoying the coffee making experience is just as important as the shots it can pull, and if having this fancy machine does it for you, there's nothing wrong with that. But if you're trying to justify financially that getting the best makes the most sense so you never have to upgrade, that might not be actually true, as you're paying up front for lots of features that you might only make sense of in a few years.
      Financially it makes sense to spend less now (maybe even a used Rancilio or smth), invest the other chunk of money, then sell and upgrade in a few years.

    The app kinda blows. The on off should be first thing you can click when the app opens. It’s auto on off scheduled is also buggy, turns on at the wrong time sometimes so it’s hard to diagnose! Otherwise love the machine, beautifully designed.

    I use my phone to make phone calls and text. I use my espresso machine to make coffee. I absolutely do not see the value of all of these new machines that pretty much don’t work if you don’t also connect them to your phone. It’s a classic case of “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” The urban legend has it that NASA spent $millions on a pen that could write upside down in space. The Russians use a pencil. So too with these app-driven espresso machines. Buddy of mine needs 3 apps to get his stereo to work. I get up, press the power button, grab the remote and I’m half way through a Wagner opera before he even gets his shit turned on. Or his lights. The machine itself looks amazing. It needs to be self contained. Or you need a good scale with a timer. Plain and simple.

    • @BrodieVissers
      @BrodieVissers  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s all about how you use the tools. You by no means need the app to use this machine, it was just a funny integration I wanted to show. Of course, I use a scale with a timer. They probably should have put a timer on the machine too, but hey. I also use my phone to take photos, edit videos, listen to podcasts, take notes. If people want to use it to make coffee too, all the power to them. Great feedback though

    • @Popcornbeetle
      @Popcornbeetle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use the machine just fine without the app. If you want to change temps accurately to the tenth and adjust steam pressure, then the app is handy. Changing pressure is still manual via screw.

    • @arty4NR
      @arty4NR ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A pen that can write upside down? You really think that in space being upside down is the problem? Not zero gravity? FYI, both NASA and russians use space pens, developed by a private company at its own cost. Using a pencil is dangerous because a piece of the graphite can break off and float into someone’s eye or a computer.
      An on/off timer in a coffee machine, controlled from a phone, is brilliant. So is temp control.
      But, yes, a timer would make more sense on the machine.

    Nice design, but otherwise very much over priced. If you are willing to pay over 50% premium for a brand name and design, then go for it.

      Name another brand with a comparable level of quality (i.e. mostly identical specs)? It’s a very quiet landscape. Not much competition at this level and proven reliability (which is where most of the “competition” falls out of consideration).

  • @rxonmymind8362
    @rxonmymind8362 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When I wake up in the morning I'd rather not interact with my phone. Now you're telling me to do so for the timer and whatever else they have on it. It's ME time. Not me and my phone time. But I'm probably in the minority. Just me, my cats & my dog until I wake up.
    Then it's time to hit my home gym, walk the dog.
    Finish that and make another iced latte THEN be on my phone. Around 11 am. Not at 7am. No.
    I need a manual espresso machine. No computers.
