Sorry for the quality of Episode 14 -- these episodes were taken from the Internet Archive and some came with visual glitches. For full episodes, here is a link to the first 5 episodes on the Archive: archive.org/details/yu-gi-oh-...

I love that the music for him coming out is so heroic and upbeat but he literally just ends up psychologically torturing people with dark magic after playing mind games with them
You should see the manga version. That time with the vodka, instead of an illusion, he actually lit himself on fire, Yugi made a guy constantly hear his heartbeat, but magnified. Yugi put Kaiba in a coma, he made someone get stung by a small scorpion. The anime is tame compared to the manga.
@@JoyconsRUnDriftable-dx9vvso the English dub of the duel monsters series is a tame version of the original Japanese dub, while the Japanese dub is a tame version of season 0, while season 0 is a tame version of the manga.

@JoyconsRUnDriftable-dx9vv Uhh didn't the guy who got stung put the scorpion in a shoe he sold Jonouchi first? idk i read the manga a whole while ago (^^;

Holy shit this is 2 HOURS?!!!!! OMGGGGGGG YAMI'S SO COOL~!!!!!
"That voice is brimming with confedence. It can't be Yuugi" YO SHE JUST CALLED HIM A COWARD!!!
Well he literally was that's the whole point of the other Yugi he was there to help get confidence
I mean she literally tells him he's a bitch in first episode
Yami was always confident.
Ironically, the show takes a much darker twist if you imagine the puzzle never even being solved. Yugi is just a worthless wimp who gets beat up and robbed all the time, and Anzu doesn't respect him whatsoever who likely hangs around with him out of pity, to make herself feel like a "good person" or something.
I dunno, that's as dark if not darker than the penalties Yami inflicts on his opponents. Those punishments are mostly physical (manifested as illusions of the mind, but still physical/real to those experiencing them) whereas Yugi's story sans puzzle is *real* psychological torture (so an inversion of the usual penalties, if you get what I mean).
no, she called him insecure. which... isn't much better now that i think about it
Yuugi when someone literally goes insane, and he was the last person to see them, and he has a gap in his memory: This is a completlty normal thing and I am in no way responible for this.
Yah but would you assume that you have an alternate personality capable of making people lose their minds that takes over at seemingly random times or that you have weird luck and need more sleep.
He never gets in trouble for it, so he probably doesn't worry about it.
@@Anorak610 Well I'd consider it!
I just want to call attention to the fact that Kaiba in this anime forced a draw in his first duel with Yugi.
And he STILL vowed revenge.
It's Kaiba. Of course he's THAT petty.
In the manga, he actually lost and suffered a punishment from Yugi, giving him enough motivation for revenge.
It's Seto Kaiba, the most pettiest man in all of anime.
I'm really glad people went through the trouble of preserving this version of the series. It's a cornerstone of Yu-Gi-Oh!'s history and should always be remembered.
2 and a half hours of Egyptian Jigsaw wanting to play a game.
Its still insane how changing the premise of the show led to a massively popular card game that lasted over a decade crazy how the concept of yugioh cards wasnt even a thought in the producer's minds yet
I still think that Sailor Uranus voicing Yami Yugi is the most badass thing they ever did. Perfect casting.
I knew she voiced Shinji in Evangelion, she's Sailor Uranus too?!
The funny thing is Season 0 Kaiba voices Akihiko and Yugi's Ken in those games.

Yami/Atem was a monster in Season 0, but he had a heart of gold in his own way.
He only went after evil doers and those who would abuse people for their own selfish gains.
If you were innocent, he never harmed you.
I guess Kaiba got inspired for solid vision by getting mind fucked
PFFFFT-
It's literally what happened
that's LITERALLY what happened 😭
In the manga, Kaiba lost his first duel to Yugi and as a result, he was forced to experience the torture he put his cards through. This experience inspired him to create Solid Vision as well as to create the punishment game for Death-T 4. Because he doesn't experience that Punishment Game in the anime, how he gets the idea for Solid Vision is unknown.
@@solaris9426 it's from seeing the monsters of the cards come to life right before him i guess.
"The Door of Darkness opened" I always get chills when Yami Yugi does a Penalty Game er Shadow Game for the losers. It a form of Justice.
Yu-Gi-Oh translates to king of games. So yeah, Yami playing many kinds of games actually pretty spot on 😁
The moment "The door of darkness opens." appears, someone is about to die. That much is consistent about the punishments.
keeping the episode commercial transition in the very middle of the video was SO good
Wait oh my god, I don’t remember doing that at all!! I had to search for it?! I thought it was only at the beginning??
Strange…I seemed to have…blacked out for a little while…
Maybe you were possessed by the spirit of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh from 3000 years ago during the editing process.
The reason why dark Yugi never hesitate to fight a game and loses cuz he's extremely confident.
😯
The hospital one was dark and horrifying I remember but all of those patients that died haunting him is... wow. This episode was amazing by the way.
Yami in season 0 is one of the best characters ever in anime history
Dark Yugi genuinely losing a game: "Guess I'll have them draw the Joker card and make some shit up where I win instantly because they did."
In a way, those games were rigged from the start, as person with weak will (cheaters, bullies, abusers, etc) cannot win a game of darkness. That's kinda the point.
I was watching this anime ever since childhood, and I was *always* sure that he completely rigged pretty much every game. Some of them are a bit harder to point out exactly how but… the cheating was pretty obvious.
Still! My friends and I kept some of these game concepts for ourselves to use in a non-dark environment. Because they’re legitimately fun when nobody dies :D
He is using his powers to torment the wicked. He humiliates them with bullshit in children's games to show how petty they are before punishing them.
@@kindlingking The way I've always heard it, the rules absolutely MUST be fair, if not put the challenger at a disadvantage; the opponents' own flaws are what undoes them, and the few who keep to the rules and still lose are matters of either chance or skill

2:03:20 The beginning of Kaiba's trauma
In the Manga that guy with the gun actually does light the Vodka on fire and dies
The original concept of Yu-Gi-Oh was Horror/Hobby Battle manga
The Hobby was overall Gaming culture that's games of all kinds
The horror came from the Horrific punishments Dark Yugi would give to Cheaters and Other bad guys
The Shadow Games started as a test for the Soul, Dark Yugi used the Yami no Game to punish evil
While Dark Bakura just wanted to steal souls with Bakura just like in Duel Monsters being the final villain before Atem would leave
However, that's Not where the story ends
Gotta love when Kaiba caused a draw, he just ran his wits of as soon as he could.
Man little Yugi was always getting his ass kicked and then Atem has to save him😄
Apparently being the "King of Games" also makes you a black belt in karate lol. Gives you super strength in general too judging by the way he stopped several bookshelves that were about to fall onto him using only the back of his hand.

I always wanted to see what would happen if a good person played a Game of Darkness. After all, their true good nature would simply show up and not open the door to darkness. My guess is that Yami Yugi would lose and no one would get hurt. But it would still be interesting.
It’s an interesting question, early yugioh has its roots in horror, particularly, at least in my opinion, mid 20th century horror comics (ec, og tales from the crypt, that kind of stuff). Those stories tend to feature central characters who are unrepentant assholes who meet their comeuppance at the end of the story, usually fatal through some supernatural means. These early yugioh one off villains are usually people who either use physical strength or societal position to be absolute pieces of shit to everyone around them, at thusly get their due at the hands of yami. I think the answer to your question is a little anticlimactic though. A good person, or even just a person who isn’t a massive jerk would never even play in a shadow game against yami because they wouldn’t get into the situation we’re such an event would trigger in the first place, simply because of personality.
Depends on how you look at games of darkness. With their original implementation, I think, regardless of who loses nothing will happen, but with the way they presented later on the punishment for the loser is mandatory and is chosen by the initiator of the game, so regardless of your good heart you will suffer if millennium item holder decides to up the stakes
a good person wouldn't be in a situation where they'd play a shadow game against yami because yami never plays shadow games against people who hasn't wronged him/yugi/his friends. but even so, since yami is the one in control/host of the game, he could probably just tone down, or even cancel the punishment 💀
This series is considered cannon, Yugi mentions when Joey stole a piece of his millenium puzzle and got beat up by the school bully.
it's also the first chapter of the manga.
so who knows.
I love how every clip begins with Joey or Tristan getting beat up
"I couldn't help but notice you're not being mind-$#@%ed right now. Thought I'd come over and fix that."
Yugis friends always takin a nap when dark yogi shows up
Kinda funny how this dude canonically chilled the f down and settled down to only one game.
Imagine we had this Atem in the main series.💀💀
I kinda wish it was. In the 90's, it was so rare to see a villainous main character type trope that an Atem like this on Duel Monsters would be a fresh breather to see among the anime
MIND CRUSH!!!!
Kaiba was really about to torture and murk his own brother 😐
Yep. Yugioh was originally supposed to be much more sinister and darker than the reboot of this to the Duel Monsters anime. Makes you wonder how things would had gone.

Hes basically a kid wich plays with his opponents that's basically like sonic exe
Let's not forget that kaiba after death-T needed to rebuild his life back
While yugi in the Manga brings kaiba a penalty game that's similar to death to kaiba in their first duel
Yugi was here around 14 years old basically and can't stand on his own
After yugioh duel monsters in darkside of dimensions
Yugi can stand on his own and became more stronger and more confident
Also the first episode is a replay of the death-T duel with kaiba

I can never get tired of Yami inflicting Penalty Games on those deserving to be punished. Especially in the manga version although brutal and cruel - they definitely have it coming. Considering upon the many criminals, bullies, delinquents, abusers, crooks, and/or perverts that city (worldbuilding) have in the anime and manga respectively.
Awesome work!
Ok how much memory do the 2 yugis share? Lil yugi has no recollections of dark yugis shenanigans but dark yugi seems to have the same memory as yugi(he remembers grandpa's advice and calls him grandpa out of instinct and treats all his friends with the same respect normal yugi has for them), lil yugi's feelings affected him midgame when he faced shadi and everytime he comes out he already knows wtf going on and get revenge
Prior to Yugi accepting Atem as part of his life, he blacked out completely and was, therefore, unable to see anything Atem did in his body. The reverse is not true, however. Atem had full access to Yugi's memories and feelings even when he's not actively controlling his host's body. What this meant though is Atem is more susceptible to little Yugi's influence; since he sees, feels, and interacts with everything Yugi had done and is doing. Atem's punishments and methods for his games change quite remarkably throughout the season as a result. In episode 1, he straightup throws a guy out of a building for beating up his friends while later villains get away with lighter punishments and experience fairer games.
It's funny finding out this is the same VA for Shinji Ikari and Sailor Uranus.
And that Bakura has the deeper voice in this version.

It's not really rigged. The area they're in is showing the true nature of the victims soul. The games are fair and based on chance. The opponent only loses because their true nature begins to show and they get overconfident, leading them to lose. Also, it didn't look sharp due to the old animation.
Why are they even accepting to play? "Yeah I'm about to commit murder but sure, in the meantime let's play a game"
Pride. While Atem looks more confident than little Yugi, he isn't noticeably taller than him and he is still a scrawny boy. Most of Atem's opponents were incredibly narcissistic and prideful. The others who weren't, Atem had legitimately threatened into participating.
God I loved Yugioh as a kid, I watched the duelist island arc a bunch but I remember some kid in elementary school had one of the EARLY manga chapters were they were doing this game with a scorpion in a shoe and I always wondered what that was freaking about
God I've always wondered what exactly Season 0 looked like, couldn't find it anywhere.
I have one volume of the manga (the first one I think, the one with the lighter, splitting a dice in half, and the nitroglycerin in ice "game"), but I never saw the actual season 0.
Man, where is the box set so I can own this??
I’m surprised- you’re not the first person to ask about the box set! Personally I’ve always watched it through TH-cam (there was even an 11.5 hour upload of the entire show for a while, but I think that was taken down.) I’m not sure if box sets are available anymore because if Toei Animation has really chosen to upload it all to the Internet Archive for free, and that’s not just someone pretending to be them, it means they’re no longer interested in making money off it. We can hope!
I saw a box sett once online but it looked very shady so I kever bought it.

I completed watch Yu-Gi-Oh season 0 and it's so cool
Season 0 is the GOAT
Yami really felt like a king in these compared to duelist kingdom and onwards
Anime Jigsaw
It feels so strange to not hear the super deep Dan Green/LittleKuriboh voice for Yami Yugi, but it’s also *extremely* funny hearing it juxtaposed against how batshit insane Yami Yugi is in the manga/season 0
Season 0 Yami Yugi was a menace 👁️
Imma go watch this it looks sick plus its all on TH-cam
good choice! happy 2024!

Anzu being a damsel in distress for 2.5 hours
like the old saying goes "they don't make things like they use to, tv/cartoons/movies/music/anime- (hell even porn) look at this anime, stuff back then had better art/storyline/music/acting and i'm at a age i couldn't give a sh!t about anime anime (born in a era where we MADE anime/gaming popular) yet the art/music/suspense/ideology/lore is far superior then todays animes
Dude was a frickin' menace
46:10 the wretch is a genius
1:24:40 interestingly, this character dies in the manga, he does basically the same thing in this version and another interesting fact about this jar is that it is in the ocg card game and tcg is that trap that denies traps facing down
