AlphaServer DS25 Dual 1GHz Alpha CPUs with 8GB of Memory
OpenVMS 7.3-1
Soft Windows from Insignia Solutions MS DOS 6.21
This feels like using a Space Shuttle to go to the corner store for a bottle of milk...
Fun vid. The people responsible for killing Alpha have escaped justice for far too long.
Compaq or HP? or depending on how you view Itanium even Intel... There is plenty of blame to go around.
@@cairnex4473 What about DEC? Everybody loves to blame others after ruining their own companies
This is great!. Didn't know it was possible. I have an AlphaServer ES45 that I'm yet to tinker with. This could be a fun thing to try with it.
You know what? That machine needs to run Doom... :-)
I'm impressed. I really didn't think anyone would have bothered with a decent DOS emulator for OpenVMS. I was exposed to VMS shortly after DOS. While I preferred DOS and later *NIX, I really did like the versioning filesystem they used. I liked the window manager, though I couldn't tell if it was TWM or MWM. Is SoftWin limited to 640x480 and standard mode, or is it similar to DOSBox?
I was the opposite. I was using VAX/VMS at work, before I ever saw DOS.
Many years ago, I used to play "Striker" on my XT clone. Then I got a 386 and there was no way I could play Striker on it, as it was just too fast!
Let's see Wolfenstein 3D!
