- I'm sick of delusional stans from EVERY fan base bashing and shading each other FOR NO REASON when all artists are technology and puppets. Here's part I of the many to come.
To her DELUSIONAL fans/stans:
I'm not here for the excuses about her voice, because if her peers and older vocalists that have gone through the exact same thing can still give a decent live performance, then there is NO EXCUSE for this creature. Not even a hate video, just an eye-opener.
What the fuck.
Kay, so. Let's break this shit down.
0:13 it's not the same "track". To begin with, because there's no such thing as a track. She sings that song completely live. And in that particular case, she sings "know you think" a little higher in the yellow outfit clip and the end of the "be" differently as well, along with a _dah/hah_ or whatever you wanna call it. Sure, she can't really dance, but her angle was her voice, not her dancing so, not really that relevant.
0:31 yes, that is lip-sync, and there are a few other performances from that era and specifically that album's "TV tour" (when they go on TV shows promoting their new album) where she lip-synced. Saving All Me Love For You, How Will I Know and I don't remember if there was any other one. The purpose of those appearances is to promote material, and for TV programs to pay for your live singing is more expensive than simply paying for you to lip-sync, and since she wasn't as well known as she later became, she just wasn't worth it at the time.
0:53 yeah. If I'm not wrong, that's the first song on the setlist and it was lip-synced in most, if not all performances. At that point, they had to try everything they could to preserve her voice so it would last the entire concert so, that's one of the things they did.
1:21 I don't really think that is lip-sync, mainly because it's not really that much of a good performance overall. It started quite well and all, but by the time it reached I Will Always Love You, it became a little messy, and that belt was consistent with that. It just doesn't make sense for her to lip a shitty track. The reason why it sounds weird is because they opened the audience mic (because the audience generally cheered during that part of the song because big not and all that stuff, and it sounds cool to have her sing a big note with the audience screaming), which is getting the mic's feed a couple milliseconds later and therefore it sounds as if there were two tracks on top of each other.

1:36 she already was live, and yes, it's no secret her voice was quite deteriorated by that time and she was struggling with that kinda singing.
1:53 again, wrong. Not since forever. We've been over this with the 31 second mark comment.
1:59 the I'm Every Woman bridge was always lipped because she would perform that at the end of the concerts, or near the end of them, and her voice would already be quite tired by then and it's the kind of abuse that kills your voice if you do it, so yes, she almost always lipped that. I once found a video from the very first concerts of that tour in which she tried to do it live but it backfired, because of what I just explained, and I guess that's when they introduced the lipping.
2:09 do you even know what "out of (sb's) range" means? It's not out of her range, at all. Even more so, the limit of her chest range was higher than that.
3:02 what "effects" are you talking about? It's just her (quite deteriorated) voice, the studio backing track (again, the condition of her voice) and some live backup singers. And do you even know what reverb is? It's just some fancy echo. It doesn't do magic for a 46 year old woman who's been smoking for more than 15 years and touring the entire world with two hour shows almost every night (during those tours, of course).
3:12 yeap, out of breath and couldn't do it live. She did do higher, more difficult stuff live during that time when she wasn't out of breath, though.
3:27 her voice broke, that's it.
3:31 there's no secret truth. She was in good condition during the recording of the album. Again with the range thing, I already explained that.
3:40 the editing there is not done in order to affect her pitch and runs but to make it sound more integrated with the instruments.
3:44 she was high af, cocaine I think, was agitated and out of breath, yes, and had not rested and taken proper care of her voice for that performance. I'll give you that.
3:56 lack of support (due to whatever was going on there) leads to a really bad sound, yes.
The song is written that way. There's really not much you can do. Lower the key? Sure, they could've done that, but the key change mid-song is not the problem there.
4:04 that's just stupid lol
4:16 there's no "too much editing" going on in terms of the natural qualities of her voice, as I already said.
4:27 she actually does sound very clear and well there so, wrong.
4:30 lol yeah, couldn't transition to head. And the range thing, already talked about it, again. Besides, in this case it's not a matter of range but a matter of transitioning into head voice.

5:01 not really yelling. Just pressing her throat to reach the note and causing it to close and generate that raspy sound.
5:09 there was no such comeback because she had never left. She was still recording stuff, still doing concerts and still being pretty much active.

7:02 actually sounds decent enough for the year it is from. Again, no magic trick to make her sound better than she could actually sound by herself was done. Sure, she wasn't the same live and in the studio, but that's because she took better care of herself when she recorded the album than when she was doing that tour.

7:23 aight. First of all, reverb is not some deceitful tactic used by singers to enhance their voices and sound amazing. It's just fucking echo. And also, reverb is not autotune. Autotune is pitch correction. Reverb is simply the digital equivalent of resonance. If you suck at getting the pitch right, the reverb will pick that up and make it sound more resonant. That's all.

10:04 I already explained what reverb is, and that's precisely the point of it. To generate a more resonant sound, not because she lacks the ability to generate it on her own but because it's just a sound effect and that's it. There's no mysterious shenanigans there.

It appears that you like to throw out the words "yelling" and "struggling" to project what you want others to believe. Sure, at times, especially in her later years, she did struggle with higher notes, but not in every instance that you pointed out. You have exaggerated it that you come off as a hater and since you have misrepresented this video, you are discredited.
Whitney did, in fact, lip sync in her earlier years when she would be on stage mostly at foreign nations. That is to save that foreign studio the money the could not afford for her to do a live performance, so they basically paid only for her appearance.
When she says, "You know I don't lip sync..." that is a response to a seeming accusation of her doing so constantly and consistently. Just like if someone asked you if you were a liar. If you say NO, does that mean you have NEVER told a lie?
You can tell when she's lip sync'ing because the track is EXACTLY how it is recorded in her album. When she does live performances, she normally changes up some parts of the song for nuance. To ascertain that she has, in the middle of a song, changed from live to track and then back, you give her and her tech department too much credit. You clearly don't realize how difficult that would be to accomplish, and to match the tempo of the vibrato when switching in and out of live performing.
You almost pulled off this lie by mixing in some truth to it. But what makes your presentation an ENTIRE LIE is that your intention is to mislead viewers. The devil can give you facts, but if his intent is to mislead, it is still a LIE. Now, who's the liar? YOU!

I think the sad part is that I don’t think you educated yourself on the legendary foundation Whitney built for herself in the 80’s. Her voice was absolutely phenomenal in the 80’s! It was so robust, clear, and it had stamina. In the late 90’s, which are the videos you chose to showcase, her voice was not the same as it once was. Her voice darkened, and she couldn’t sing in the high tessitura she sang in before. Whitney isn’t a legend for nothing. She is probably one of the best live performers I know. She’s so experienced in the live environment, and she was known for making her live performances sound better than the studio version.

In her last album, she could have lipsynced all the promo performances but nope she did not. It was hit or miss but when she did well you just cannot help but be amazed. I think the music industry is to blame more so than the artists themselves, although the artists are pressured to go along with it. They are marketed as if they are super-human, and they are not. This line of work would not be the proper environment to be able to maintain good vocal health. You are made to sing out of your range to make songs popular to radio and the public. No living, breathing human being could sustain this kind of lifestyle and crazy schedules for years and years. That’s why many of the biggest entertainers have died. I imagine many of them have resorted to lip-syncing and the like just to stay alive, and that’s sad. I’m a singer, but I would never work for the industry at this level. Insanity!

In the 90's she was worth over 70 million dollars because she could sing her face off, so she needed to lip sync to continue. I am glad we have TH-cam to capture her in her prime. Everyone, hopefully, will get old. She did, but in her prime she was phenominal.
