I can't believe I forgot to mention it would have been her birthday today - that's why I did this video today:) However, happy birthday Whitney!!! :)
It should be mentioned that she was performing outdoors in front of a massive audience in one of the largest soccer stadiums on the planet. ONE OF ONE!
Her phrasing, her soul, her tonal quality, the richness of her voice - made her a STANDOUT voice. No matter what she sang.
I love this version. Her 1983 version was amazing for a 19 year old girl too.
She sang from her soul in this performance. I take this version every single time over her 83' version which was technically perfect but in this performance, her emotions and phrasing are second to none.
Me to this was perfection! She showcased that a voice is an instrument here!
She is the most awarded female ever! She’s number 1. Per album she has outsold all her peers with less release compared to Madonna, Mariah and Celine who all have 15 to 20 cds Whitney has 7 and 2 soundtracks.
I remember watching this when it 1st aired in November of 1994 and recording it on vhs. After the concert ended, i probably re-watched the show at least 5x that going into the next morning. Over the years whenever i had company over we would watch the concert and do our own reactions to every high note, run, special not, etc. This was before the TH-cam era and i would have NEVER GUESSED IN A MILLION YEARS that a day would come when i would watch so many doing reaction videos that my friends and family used to do. Man, what a voice and what an amazing talent our beloved whitney had. She was truly magical ✨️

I am a Whitney fan. For me this performance is much better: "Home | Live at The Merv Griffin Show, 1983 (Remastered, 60fps)", when nobody knew her yet. Her voice was pure, innocent, with a divine talent. For me, perhaps one of the best interpretation of her entire career. Search for the title in quotes on TH-cam.

No it is not......you do not know good singing....Whitney is way more mature here and the way she approaches the song puts her early version and Diana Ross version yo shame. I am a musician and a huge fan, so Xi do know this version is the better version...song with clarity, soul, beautiful, musical expression, and color, and range....the 1983 did not have none of this.....

What, ur struggling with what a real voice sounds like, had u seen the whole show u would know she was at her peak! This was amazing!
This was the last song of a show that was "LIVE" from beginning to end. Yes she struggled because she's human and the voice is still connected to the body which is also tired. Now days most artist need back tracks to get through a show which shows they are scammers and not true artist.

No her voice has fully matured,her voice started deteriorating from 1999 onwards which shows she has problem reaching her usual high note and falsetto.

@@perryIII I beg to differ, 1994 was the year her voice has fully matured,what she showcase here was her agility and her powerful and skillful vocal acrobatic skills,her voice was still powerful but anything after 1994 after the touring , probably 1995 onwards her voice has that dark tone which go deeper and deeper ,I would say her best prime would have been 1987-1990,her Grammy performance of one moment in time was so beautifully clear and clean. The 25th Arista anniversary performance and the 19999 Divas live was the dramatic decline in her vocal especially her breath contrl and she seems struggling. In 2004 her appearance and her performance was still better than any artists today . Her voice was a beautiful gift ,she could have regain her voice if she quit smokimg and addressed her heart issues.
