Well it’s not a mistake as you now have a 2TB deck for under the cost of the 512gb model
Nice video! Just wanted to add Steam OS 3.0 is supposedly going to reduce shader caches in half which should be a big help on file sizes for 64 GB Decks who don't want to upgrade the internal storage but there's still no release date on it
Thanks coopp! great info
3.0? Don't you mean v3.5?
quick tip: you can put the shadercache and the prefix data into sd card
I got a 64 gig too. I linked my shader cache to the micro sd so it doesn't get the internal memory full. You can do the same with the common data too.
Just bought a brand new 64gb Steam Deck for $300. Guy got is a gift for christmas and didn’t want it. Upgraded it to 2TB ssd and 1TB microsd right away. It’s no oled but hey! Bang for buck king
clickbait misleadint title, real title is, windows user complains about steamdeck, then proceeds to spend a few hundred in upgrades and posts a decent video
@someguycookingmeat, sorry you are disappointed in the video. But I appreciate you watching and commenting.
just dont use clickbait titles and you wont get any guff, i waited entire video for the huge mistake, lmao im a moron for clicking it and expecting anything@@digitalmaus
Great job. I too went with the 64 GB Steam Deck and the 1 TB micro SD card and had planned to do the same thing and ran into the same problem. I also upgraded my SSD to a 1 TB SSD so combined with my micro SD card I now have 2 TB of storage and the faster SSD opens up games like Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart to me and that game is amazing especially to see it running on a hand held. The Steam Deck is an incredible value in gaming. With it I don't feel like I am missing out not having a PS5. My "modern" gaming combo is the Steam Deck and the Nintendo Switch. Not only are there an incredible amount of amazing games on both systems they allow you to play docked or on the go. What a time to be a gamer! Thanks again for the video. Subscribed.
Thank you for your kind words, for watching, and sharing Malcomar
@@digitalmaus You are very welcome.
Its an easy solution, you do not need every game on your steam deck.... amazing but true.
64gb model is perfect. Just order it and a 1/2TB NVMe drive for 60-200 dollars. easy.,
Exactly what I did, except I got the refurbished 64g 😎 it came perfect, no even one sign of use
@@MA-xd9zl Awesome. I bought 6 different SD cards to test performance and i found the TGroup A2 1TB Card was the best performing price to perf.
Thanks for the video! Very informative!
Isn’t doing this cheaper than buying the 1tb version if it ever existed?
Perhaps, but I had no intention of upgrading the SteamDeck internals. Admittedly I was intimidated by the prospect. Luckily it did turn out to be easier than I thought. Based upon how easy this was I’ll be upgrading the SSD on my ROG Ally next. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
I just upgraded mine with a refurbished 256gb Kingston SSD. 256gb 2230 ssd's are very cheap in the used/refurbished market because they usually came from upgraded laptops (mine even had windows 11 preinstalled), and will give you plenty of space for that pesky proton/shader cache files (and even install some games on it).
Perfect video! Thank you!!!
Good video! I found myself in a similar situation with my 64gb Deck. Proton Caches were so big I couldn't download some apps and emulators that required to be installed on the main drive, so I upgraded to a 1TB drive recently. My thought process was that I could just use the SD card for a few years and when storage got cheap enough, upgrade, but both of these scenarios happened a lot quicker than I expected. I also ended up needing to open up my Deck to clean and lube one of the sticks that had become a bit sticky, so the initial fear of opening the device was gone. I now have more storage than the max config while having paid in total less than the 256gb one. (I am missing the exclusive Steam Profile but come on)
Also two little things I wanted to point out: instead of draining your Deck's battery, you can boot into the BIOS and set the battery to storage mode, which will prevent it from booting unless plugged into the wall, and then disconnect the battery (which I believe is required for the SSD upgrade anyway). When you're done, just put everything back together and plug your Steam Deck to power to boot it up.
And while I don't have any personal experience with the GuliKit sticks, I've heard that they're a squared stick box compared to the original's round one. It shouldn't be a huge difference, but I feel like is something I've only heard a few people mention and should probably be more easily available information. ElecGear makes some hall sensor stick that allegedly have circle stick boxes too, but I don't have experience with those either (after the little surgery my sticks ended up fine) and they also sell regular potentiometer based sticks, so be sure you are buying the right ones if getting those.
Great info thanks for watching and sharing Lou!
Click bait.
I have a full 1tb micro SD and 28gig internal available and almost all AAA games. Definitely the BEST choice in 2023 Also better as the antiglare screen killed the colors for me on the higher OEM capacity ones.
Nice, any issues with proton?
besides the clickbate, what is the huge mistake?
I went with XPC 2 TB, fast read/write speeds & cheaper. Works great 👍
What if I have a black screen and ran out of space and the black screen won’t go away I bought a 2tb ssd. Am I able to still do that with the black screen and it’s battery dead? Please help
You know you can move the proton files to the sd card right?
what is the size of your screwdriver?
0:36 wtf was that. Why are these text to voice programs still so bad haha.
