I've always wanted one of these cars since i was a kid "yes, thanks to The Fast & Furious in a sense but mostly due to Need For Speed Underground" that game truly made me love the car. As to nowadays and the state these cars are usually found it's kind of a mixbag to me, on one hand you'll always want to go for a clean, unmolested OEM one which is rare to find and in other you have these highly modified ones that at times will be nothing but trouble for you if you don't know what the previous owner did to it beforehand. Still i love these cars regardless of the reputation they have in the car community and sometimes i get the "eww why you want to drive a stock 2G?" because i like the way they look and feel even in stock form, which it seems to always be a issue for fans of these cars but not for me.
9:28 Hurts to watch :( Also for spare parts.. The dodge avengers litter the scrapyards untouched and have the same dashboard and seats as the eclipse among other things. Good source of passenger airbags and unripped leather seats. You can also find matching FWD rear end parts from some Sebrings (2 door hardtop) or Galants. You may also find compatible parts from later generations such as using the rear sway bar from a 3rd gen eclipse (requires the 3rd gen control arms too). Biggest reg flags of unobtainium parts to look for when inspecting a fixer upper.. The rear CV's on the AWD Eclipse/Talons are no longer manufactured and will cost an arm and a leg for something custom or used. The black drip moulding that wraps the upper door frame, the rubber coating likes to peel with reveals a chrome instead, these are also no longer manufactured and increasingly rare as the ones still out there slowly turn into raisins. If you have good ones, USE UV PROTECTION PRODUCTS.
golden advice! I've seriously contemplated jumping back into DSMs after a 20 year hiatus, but many are trashed and hard to find parts have me making a pass which I'm very disappointed to do.
It's pretty much impossible to find these cars in good condition anymore. If you do find a rare one that's stock or just lightly modded in good condition you need to pay a fortune for one. You also have to watch out for smog if you live in California, a lot of them are illegally modded
💯 spot on!!! And before I moved out they were cracking down on mods. I got a ticket for a dosco ball hanging from my mirror in California 😡 Depending on where ya live in Texas you can do just about anything to em not in the city but in the country you can mod any way ya want from what I have been told. I blame the manufacturer of the 420a for that one the 4G63 can be modified a little more than the 420a. At the end of the day the government owns these cars we just pay for em.
I was looking at those. Im going to start a complete rebuild, so I was debating on the billet handles or shaving them... still cant decided. Edit: completely stock 1995 GS-T with 130,000. Runs and drives, just needs routine maintenance and hoses replaced.
420A’s are reliable when turb’d imo depending on how the owner put up with it also 420A’s that weren’t liked because of the engine are easier to get now than the gst’s/X and easier for someone just getting into them before stepping into the gst/gsx realm.
Yo you put a picture of my car up in your video. 🤣😂🤣. I mean mine may be a 95 gs, with a turboed 420a and I have owned it for 21 years. I built it as a show car around 2004.
I've only ever bought 1 dsm that was running which also happened to be the last one I bought this august which also happens to be a gsx and the rare purpley blue color. Your incorrect about the guy making aluminum door handles, he still makes them when he gets big enough orders. The biggest problem is people don't buy a dsm if it needs work, they all want to find the mint low mile example and as a result a lot of decent cars are scrapped so instead of people being lazy try buying one that's needs a little fixing. I always buy project dsm's and everyone Ive bought has been sub 2k, one of which was a 80k miles 97 gst........ If you cant do an hour or two of work then you shouldn't own a dsm period.
The 420a can have a turbo installed but its costly and somewhat risky. I have one and I'm thinking all motor ITB or Turbo the difference is only marginal all motor ITB quick Turbo really quick. My issue is either mod will effect emissions 😢 And cost 3-4 grand all motor ITB 6-7-8 grand Turbo. I care about the environment and i care about my personal pleasures too and so my headache begins AGAIN!!! Bought it with only a few miles on it still has only 74,000 on the odometer 🥹 Love the body hate the manufacturing process that went into the 420a with a passion 😡 I was quoted 30 grand and a clean exhaust so I guess that's out the picture. Like I said a headache because you know it's a slow car when you race a GEO metro and can't shake it off your tail when you have basic mods, header exhaust, and intake done 💔
Just got a babied GSX and I’m glad I saw this video to help look for a great example of these unicorns
Happy for you dude!
How much was it gor

The green color is very common here in Sweden and probably europe. Also the gs model here in europe came with a 4g63 non turbo at 142hp.

I’m coming back to this video when I get my gsx
Rocker & strut tower rust are the #1 issue besides being hacked AF.
100% agree, Bought a 98 Eclipse with only 47k miles and had the front rocker and strut snap while driving within a month
The ‘It’s unsafe anyways’ comment is so true lol
The 1g dsm's are definitely stronger then the 2g's, guys have taken some serious hits in 1g's and walked away fine.

I got the billet handles on mine. Game changer!

Also for the base models it’s easier to find parts because you could get them from a pt cruiser or a laser or a dodge neon
