Thank you, sir. Youve provided some very divergent info here; most archery channels i watch either discuss bowyery(which i do appreciate), or a very simplified analysis of draw mechanics. While this video sort of lacks the frills (i.e.-making/shooting a bow) youve given very valuable info other channels arent giving 👍

Thank you for this video as well as all the others before it. I am very new to archery and have taken it up as I have just recently retired. As an office dweller my upper body strength is somewhat lacking, as I have found out to my dismay, but that has not put me off. My preference is field archery, walking a course and shooting at different targets which offers different challenges at each one. I have an approx draw length of 26" and my current bow is a Samic Sage 60" @ 25lb. Now, I know others may say the weight is too light, but if I'm honest, after a day out, I am exhausted, but just to add, I stand only 5' 5" 😅. I do have a second set of limbs waiting to be used: 35lb, but until I get comfortable and proficient with what I have got, they can wait. Once again, thank you for taking the time to post these very valuable videos.

25lb is about where I started many years ago. Just be patient and don't be pressured into moving up in draw weight too quickly. It's best to concentrate on form at first and when you are ready move up in weight. I'm glad you like the videos there are more to come. Enjoy the archery journey.

Just found you and I take my hat off to you! Very good videos. As for string angle, see ArminHirmer, who recommends 60 degrees between arrow and string, after a bowyer told him anything else is rubbish. Keep up the good work.

oh man, this video gave me some hope. I am thinking to get into archery. I was delaying it because of corona, then I got a son, and I think to buy a bow in the coming weeks. I don't like to do online shopping, I want to see things, touch them, feel them and that is what toke me so long. I wanted to try horse bows, because they are smaller and more agile and I saw this crazy dude, lars andersen. but in my area, there are mostly recurve bows or long bow. So I was thinking if it is possible to use (as much as possible) a recurve bow as a horse bow. so, to get a smaller one and play around till I find my style.
this video just slapped me and told me to do whatever I think is fun. because all the other videos I saw were like "you have to do this or you are doing it wrong". but historically archery wasn't like that (as they said), but it got "boring" since it became a sport where they add so many extensions on their bows and where they follow strict rules on bow configuration and such. they force their preferences and their fits to others, as if all are like them.
anyway. I still have a question: is it better to go with a shorter riser and longer arms or longer riser and shorter arms?

Hi, a shorter riser and longer limbs will make the bow a bit more forgiving. A longer riser with short limbs will make the bow more aggressive and faster. It depends on which one you prefer, there really isn't a right or wrong way.

@@thebarebowbrummie so medium from both would be like the sweet spot. I think a 21" would be good, or maybe 23", but 25" is then too big for my taste. thanks for your reply

    So... 28" draw length. 66, 68 0r 70"?

@harimathur2191 as a rule of thumb I would recommend a 68" but with a 28" draw length you are in the lucky position you can choose whether you want your bow to be a bit more aggressive (go with a 66) or a bit more forgiving (choose the 70). Hope this helps you.
