this might be melodramatic, but I feel like spongebob and family guy have the same problem. You can go back to early episodes where these characters almost felt like people. They had genuine and consistent emotions, wants, and struggles. now they just think or act however the nonsense plot needs them to in order to fill the timeslot. the need for constant creation whose only purpose is one-time consumption before being forgotten makes me weep for creatives and their true ambitions.
To me it's hard to imagine modern SpongeBob coming up with a better joke than "SpongeBob, my legs are frozen solid, you're gonna have to cut them off with a saw. No Patrick I can't do that! Why not?! Because I already cut off my own arms!'
I didn't really think the crossover would be five episodes, instead I thought the three shows where going to be in the same setting and that characters from each show would be in different art styles. Kinda disappointing.😢
Kinda sad the crossover was slept on until the 2020’s. The potential for a great show crossover in the 2000’s would’ve been nearly endless but sadly those Nicktoons have come and gone.
Huh, interesting, so basically a Crossover that wasn’t much of a Crossover? Well, it’s unfortunate that it ended being so lackluster, I do wonder what could’ve been, so i would be very much interested to know what kind of ideas. Also, Karen being a potential masochist confirmed?
as an avid spongebob lover, i was really wondering how they would do a "crossover" with three of the shows, because since its all technically from the same universe, but the crossover part being just grandpat trying to find his way home and being on the screen for 5 seconds literally was the most disappointing thing ever... i thought we were gonna get like a jimmy neutron/timmy turner type thing but i guess i put my expectations too high. regardless thought this video put my EXACT thoughts about the the tidal zone to life, and i absolutely agree that binary bottom was the best ep out of all of them, aesthetically pleasing and seeing how each character was different still even as robots, but at the same time it did feel SUUUPER super empty plot wise, and i wish they did more with the episode cause it definitely had potential
Honestly, this supposedly crossover episode is the kid-friendly equivalent of the hurricane episodes of Family Guy, the Cleveland Show, and American Dad. At least American Dad showed both Peter and Cleveland, even though Cleveland is part of Family Guy.
I think pay phone would’ve been more fun if they put the Flying Dutchman in the payphone. He’s said before that he’d take Mr Krabs’ soul if he didn’t become less cheap. Be less cheap and he’ll leave or “be a cheapskate to Davy Jones locker!!” Then Spongebob could pull out some random thing the Dutchman wants or scares him away.

I feel like we should've gotten a nicktoons unite crossover tv movie. I remember as a kid thinking it would happen after unite became a thing. What always threw me off with nickelodeon is why we kept getting crossovers with just Rugrats and The Fairly OddParents ? Rugrats crossed over with Aaahh Real Monsters and the Wild Thornberrys. The Fairly OddParents crossed over with Jimmy Neutron (3x), and Bunsen is a Beast.
People believed both of the current spinoffs were exploitative. Well, it doesn't seem like they have done much to convince people otherwise. And we know why these exist... they don't have any sort of respect for the audience, given how little they try to compliment the original.
I think a better crossover between these episodes would be if Karen-Patrick from the Camp Coral episode built a dimensional wormhole to one-up Sandy, only for Patrick-Karen to mess up the controls and send himself into each episode before returning right as the device runs out of power, and with no way to recharge the device there's no proof to show Mr. Krabs.
1:32 Did you somehow miss the end of the episode, where it turns out [spoilers] They were actually in a microscope petri dish monitored by Sandy, so they technically didn’t escape even with toon logic. In fact, it seemed like it made things worse by somehow ending up there
@@TheAlphaJayShowWell that’s simple. “Fuck you.” Honestly, it feels like the ending to Extreme Spots, as in feeling like the plot just gives up and stops, conclusion. People argued that modern SpongeBob feels like a Ren & Stimpy wannabe, which is funny, cause I remember watching one episode of that show, which also just kinda gives up and stops. Speaking of plot just not feeling it today and calling sick, [more spoilers for this crossover] I’m super bummed that the Sandy robot amalgamation didn’t pop back up throughout the later segments. It honestly would’ve been kinda cool to have this dimension-hopping abomination reach the main universe, and start a higher-stakes climax where the main show’s cast teams up with Grandpa Star to fumble their way into defeating it and save the day.
As someone who loved SpongeBob as a kid and The Twilight Zone as an adult, The Tidal Zone is an idea I absolutely love. The episodes may not have been good, but the idea was there. Actually, the zany world of SpongeBob where anything can happen lends itself extremely well to the spirit of The Twilight Zone.
There’s no weight or punch to the slapstick anymore in newer seasons of SpongeBob anymore. It’s all just wall to wall slapstick with no subtly. Earlier season had restraint. An example of great slapstick was that one scene from ‘No Weenies Allowed’ when Patrick beats up himself. “No please… HAVE MERCY!!” There would never be a scene like that in modern SpongeBob.
There's barely any slapstick in this crossover. I don't even know why he mentioned it. I literally don't remember any slapstick moment from Welcome to Binary Bottom.
@@TheAlphaJayShow Maybe I could consider the scene where they break a giant hole in a brick wall and they destroy some cars slapstick, but that's two very short scenes, NOT THE ENTIRETY OF THE EPISODE. Also it wasn't even slapstick *comedy.*
From what i've seen, Karen being the only fish in Binary Bottom and Patrick bringing in variations of him from other episodes were the highlights for me.
Ngl what I thought was gonna happen was GrandPat getting lost for a whole hour, like he goes from his show to Camp Koral then to regular Spongebob and then back his own show and there could've been hundreds of ideas for how that could've went. And this was a Spongebob crossover and each character was made to be different they could've had the all the Patrick's or all the Spongebob's meeting each other along the way and that could've went somewhere.
Not to mention they're all exactly the same show but with a slightly different coat of paint. SpongeBob SquarePants SpongeBob SquarePants but Patrick gets more screen time SpongeBob SquarePants but it's in a CGI camp setting Their main marketing gimmick is their only defining trait, nothing else makes them stand out from one another. We're just stuck with 3 SpongeBobs now.
they could have at least had fun with the concept like having their older selves meet their younger selves. we could have seen adult spongebob in the camp koral style etc but they barely connect or have any actual crossover. the biggest crossover just seems to be patricks grandpa and who cares about him? didn't they have a cartoon network "crossover" like this where aliens or something invade the different shows but the shows never actually meet each other?
Agreed, when I was done watching it I just felt kinda… in the middle. Because I half liked it and half hated it. There’s still a lot of cool stuff tho like how in the parody intro you can see that SpongeBob kinda looks like the season 1 version but that’s about it. I liked 2 out of the 4 stories. Basically it was mid.
i think the appreciation of pain thing has to do with the fact that as a machine she cant really feel, she can "express" but that doesn't mean she really understands it, its an ai mimicking behaviors not a chemical reaction in a pile of flesh, and not to sound edgy or anything but there's even a three days grace song about wanting to feel pain instead of the emptiness of a machine.
I don't get why they also included the tidal thing in the patrick star show when the show is already random/nonsensical in the first place, making an episode where patrick actually makes a show without anything dumb going on is more tidal zone worthy than what we got
@@TheAlphaJayShow the whole concept of the tidal zone is really weird to explain, even if the idea is just Twilight zone parodies, the last one I think is not even a part of any Twilight zone story It should have been a What if like the robots one or the algae is always greener

Although I haven't watched these episodes myself, I definitely agree with your idea of spreading out the crew across shows while also bringing in new people. From what it seems in recent, the crew's seemed kinda strained for ideas across each show, and I think that goes to show that having essentially the same crew across 3 shows is not effective. Do something similar to season 9's second half, where more people are brought in who grew up with classic episodes are brought on board as writers/storyboarders for each of the three shows, thus allowing for less strain across crew members, and consistent work outputs from each show, as opposed to having each show essentially at a standstill due to the multi-tasking the current crew has to do. Nicely done review otherwise. Oh, one more thing, I'm really not sure how to feel about the main show promoting/implementing things from the spin-offs in the show in excess, I feel it's just kind of obnoxious.
Hoenstly it worse than i thought it was gonna be i thought it was gonna be a crossiver between spongebib and 2 spin off shows i couldn't care less about but it wasn't even a crossover.
6:04 I think more critics need to do this. If your frustrated that an idea isn't well executed you should give your ideas or ask your followers what are there ideas. Because as a critic you should want the production team to do better for the sake of the show or the sake of creative betterment. P.S here to hoping your new channel goes well.
If Karen and Patrick switched places during Camp Coral, Spongebob might have been in the cash register, and Patrick be the cook, just like that episode Bummer Vacation.
I thought the crossover was ok at best. It really didn’t feel like a crossover but more like an anthology episode with a slight over-arching plot as none of episodes featured really “crossed over”. I feel like this was just a total ratings trap as these were most likely meant to be separate episodes for each of the shows but Nick forced them to make it a “crossover” event. Also the whole “3-night event” thing was a total lie as all they did was replay the episode again at the same time. I thought this was gonna be a “Wishology” type thing where it was a 3-part episode just split over 3 nights. But no.. it wasn’t. Overall it was ok. The episodes themselves were good imo but everything surrounding the special was kinda bad a miss leading.

this is the problem with modern spongebob there to focused on relying on the past instead of making new ideas and even when they try they don't flesh them out enough mordern spongebob is just so confusing
SpongeBob meets SpongeBob isn’t even a decent idea for a crossover but the fact Nick can’t even commit to it. Actually, not even the first time for this network
Yeah, I agree with what you said about binary bottom. This is really creative and some visual jokes land but I just wish they did something with it. Like imagine if Spongebob somehow ended in this reality where everyone is a robot with no feelings and he had to teach his counterpart the joy of freedom and feelings while the rest of town chases him down for being an organic lifeform (you would have to delete the Karen joke but whatever) , I literally came up with that in 5 minutes. You don't even have to change the visuals and the amazing voice acting.
Binary Bottom wrote Gary out of character. He was clingy to SpongeBob when in A Pal For Gary and every other episode he was just vibing at home. Gary is supposed to be more aloof. Karen being a fish did make me chuckle though. The giant Sandy head just felt weird, unfunny and out of nowhere.

this might be melodramatic, but I feel like spongebob and family guy have the same problem.
The funniest bit was calling "Goo Lagoon" "Lube Lagoon" and only because sounds like something that would be used in a Spinge Binge ytp.
That would've been interesting too
Kinda sad the crossover was slept on until the 2020’s. The potential for a great show crossover in the 2000’s would’ve been nearly endless but sadly those Nicktoons have come and gone.
The Nicktoons Unite games: *Are we a joke to you?*
Oh wait, those are video games, not actual TV specials.
@@ExtremeWreck And they would've worked perfectly as specials, too.
It’s not true that Hillenburg said he didn’t want spin-offs.
Karen 100% likes pain
8:56 they should have most of the veterans in the og show so that the other shows feel like they have their own distinguishable voice
That'd be a great idea as well
Well it can’t even count as a crossover b/c it’s just 3 spin offs mixed into 1 episode.
3 spin-offs lol
as an avid spongebob lover, i was really wondering how they would do a "crossover" with three of the shows, because since its all technically from the same universe, but the crossover part being just grandpat trying to find his way home and being on the screen for 5 seconds literally was the most disappointing thing ever... i thought we were gonna get like a jimmy neutron/timmy turner type thing but i guess i put my expectations too high. regardless thought this video put my EXACT thoughts about the the tidal zone to life, and i absolutely agree that binary bottom was the best ep out of all of them, aesthetically pleasing and seeing how each character was different still even as robots, but at the same time it did feel SUUUPER super empty plot wise, and i wish they did more with the episode cause it definitely had potential
patchy the pirate being in an episode felt like more of a crossover than this
as a spongebob fan, I liked the crossover special, but I totally understand where your coming from.
Im glad you enjoy it. There's so much new SpongeBob that new SB fans are in kind of a golden period.
3:45 red mist be like
Honestly, this supposedly crossover episode is the kid-friendly equivalent of the hurricane episodes of Family Guy, the Cleveland Show, and American Dad. At least American Dad showed both Peter and Cleveland, even though Cleveland is part of Family Guy.
Also American Dad exists as a show separate from Family Guy that has a different tone/reason to watch.
Interviewer: What makes disrespect a man's dead wish?
Nickelodeon: Money
It really seems like that
I think pay phone would’ve been more fun if they put the Flying Dutchman in the payphone. He’s said before that he’d take Mr Krabs’ soul if he didn’t become less cheap. When he gets discovered, he could’ve given Mr Krabs’ an ultimatum. Be less cheap and he’ll leave or “be a cheapskate to Davy Jones locker!!” Then Spongebob could pull out some random thing the Dutchman wants or scares him away.
spongebob could just show the dutchman his brain again, it worked last time
Honestly this crossover feels like it’s restricted down for kids to enjoy and *only* for kids to enjoy
I'd be interested to see how many people are viewing/spending money on SpongeBob compared to other shows/YT channels/TikTok, etc.
or people who are just really obsessed with spongebob (like me, its my favorite, newer seasons are shit but oh well.) but even so it felt kinda off and almost rushed, :/
I was gonna say “why are they going with crossovers when Stephen said they shouldn’t, are they going against his wishes again?” But I mean if they are doing crossovers with themselves then I guess that’s fine.
“You can’t disrespect Stephen twice in one episode!”
Nick: I’m gonna do what’s called a double-disrespect.
Thats true
It genuinely makes me sad how ever since stephen passed away nick has just disrespected what he wanted the series to be into
He said he didn’t see them happening. “I don’t see it happening” ≠ “I don’t want it to happen.”
@@vanderquakSPDon’t defend Nickelodeon.
Literally the MOMENT it was announced Stephen passed Kamp Koral started production when Stephen said specifically, NO SPIN-OFFS.
Nick is filled with greedy bastards.
Bro the "It's better than playing a video game where you shoot Patrick for mayonnaise" line might be a better idea than some of the episodes
A Nicktoons Unite movie would be top tier
@@TheAlphaJayShow the sad thing is there's not much to unite with how downhill nick has gone recently
What Hillenburg's rule of no crossovers?
Seeing that last clip as someone with 0 context is truly wild
Lmaooo
4:59 "don't drop them ;)"
People believed both of the current spinoffs were exploitative. Well, it doesn't seem like they have done much to convince people otherwise. And we know why these exist... they don't have any sort of respect for the audience, given how little they try to compliment the original.
Well said!
Krabs.
1:32 Did you somehow miss the end of the episode, where it turns out [spoilers]
They were actually in a microscope petri dish monitored by Sandy, so they technically didn’t escape even with toon logic. In fact, it seemed like it made things worse by somehow ending up there
I did see that.
Now, how did they get there in the first place?
@@TheAlphaJayShowWell that’s simple. “Fuck you.”
Honestly, it feels like the ending to Extreme Spots, as in feeling like the plot just gives up and stops, conclusion. People argued that modern SpongeBob feels like a Ren & Stimpy wannabe, which is funny, cause I remember watching one episode of that show, which also just kinda gives up and stops.
Speaking of plot just not feeling it today and calling sick, [more spoilers for this crossover]
I’m super bummed that the Sandy robot amalgamation didn’t pop back up throughout the later segments. It honestly would’ve been kinda cool to have this dimension-hopping abomination reach the main universe, and start a higher-stakes climax where the main show’s cast teams up with Grandpa Star to fumble their way into defeating it and save the day.
The switch ideas actually implements the concept of old spongebob concepts I’d honestly see those ideas come to life
As someone who loved SpongeBob as a kid and The Twilight Zone as an adult, The Tidal Zone is an idea I absolutely love. The episodes may not have been good, but the idea was there. Actually, the zany world of SpongeBob where anything can happen lends itself extremely well to the spirit of The Twilight Zone.
“SpongeBob’s FIRST Crossover”
Nicktoons Unite: Am I a joke to you?
Nickelodeon would like for you to play All Star Brawl than Nicktoons Unite
@@TheAlphaJayShow But Battle For Volcano Island is more worthy.
6:05 spongebob staff: *WRITE THAT DOWN!!*
A skin in wrinkle time was EXTREMELY funny and memorable because of the grandpat sea star opening😂🤣
“No please… HAVE MERCY!!”
There would never be a scene like that in modern SpongeBob.
There's barely any slapstick in this crossover. I don't even know why he mentioned it. I literally don't remember any slapstick moment from Welcome to Binary Bottom.
Squidward and Gary within the entirety of that episode???
@@TheAlphaJayShow Maybe I could consider the scene where they break a giant hole in a brick wall and they destroy some cars slapstick, but that's two very short scenes, NOT THE ENTIRETY OF THE EPISODE.
Also it wasn't even slapstick *comedy.*
“Something, something…old SpongeBob good. Something, something… new SpongeBob bad”
That’s all I’m getting here.
Crossover? Crossover with what? My life as a teenage robot?
From what i've seen, Karen being the only fish in Binary Bottom and Patrick bringing in variations of him from other episodes were the highlights for me.
Ngl what I thought was gonna happen was GrandPat getting lost for a whole hour, like he goes from his show to Camp Koral then to regular Spongebob and then back his own show and there could've been hundreds of ideas for how that could've went. And this was a Spongebob crossover and each character was made to be different they could've had the all the Patrick's or all the Spongebob's meeting each other along the way and that could've went somewhere.
There's sooo many ideas
How is it a crossover when it’s all within one show technically?
Crossover of different shows I guess
@@TheAlphaJayShow I guess but I wouldn’t really count it since they all exist within one universe
@@stickthelanding4785 Yea I agree.. this is like Donkey Kong being in most Mario spinoffs is a crossover
Not to mention they're all exactly the same show but with a slightly different coat of paint.
SpongeBob SquarePants
SpongeBob SquarePants but Patrick gets more screen time
SpongeBob SquarePants but it's in a CGI camp setting
Their main marketing gimmick is their only defining trait, nothing else makes them stand out from one another.
Rod Serling is laughing in his self-made purgatory........
Super mid
i think the appreciation of pain thing has to do with the fact that as a machine she cant really feel, she can "express" but that doesn't mean she really understands it, its an ai mimicking behaviors not a chemical reaction in a pile of flesh, and not to sound edgy or anything but there's even a three days grace song about wanting to feel pain instead of the emptiness of a machine.
Another SB-129 or Dunces and Dragons episode could have been in this crossover
I think Binary Bottom is the prequel to the future in SB-129
I don't get why they also included the tidal thing in the patrick star show when the show is already random/nonsensical in the first place, making an episode where patrick actually makes a show without anything dumb going on is more tidal zone worthy than what we got
I'm still confused about what the theme was supposed to be here
@@TheAlphaJayShow the whole concept of the tidal zone is really weird to explain, even if the idea is just Twilight zone parodies, the last one I think is not even a part of any Twilight zone story
It should have been a What if like the robots one or the algae is always greener

That'd be amazing honestly
Let’s be real. We all knew this would be bad
Its unfortunate
Hoenstly it worse than i thought it was gonna be i thought it was gonna be a crossiver between spongebib and 2 spin off shows i couldn't care less about but it wasn't even a crossover.
6:04 I think more critics need to do this. If your frustrated that an idea isn't well executed you should give your ideas or ask your followers what are there ideas. Because as a critic you should want the production team to do better for the sake of the show or the sake of creative betterment.
P.S here to hoping your new channel goes well.
Patrick isn't supposed to be totally stupid, he's just supposed to be normal, but really clumbsy and sometimes dumb.
I'd love to see better writing versions! This should be cool.
With enough support, I can do it
Original SpongeBob just beats the new stuff by so much
If Karen and Patrick switched places during Camp Coral, Spongebob might have been in the cash register, and Patrick be the cook, just like that episode Bummer Vacation.
That'd be interesting too
I HATE Saying This,
But Remember Nicktoons Unite
THAT Was His First Major Cross-Over
This should've been a 22-minute special instead of a standard 11-minute episode.
3:51 is the name of the Creepypasta
I DID like Welcome to Binary Bottom, Alpha Jay!.
It was a great look for sure!
same, best!
It definitely wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it could've had a lot more done to make it memorable
@@TheAlphaJayShow Yeah as I said, the episodes were good. I just thought the advertising around it was misleading
Wow those ideas for the switch glitch you just wrote down from the top of your head I would’ve loved to see something like that in the actual episode in fact maybe I could make it like a kinda fanmade episode don’t worry I’ll give you credit for the ideas if I do make this one day
Nickelodeon just doesn’t know what to do with SpongeBob anymore
They only see it as a money maker and nothing else.
Why did we need 3 Spongebob shows again?
Does anybody know?
Who is watching these other than 5 year olds with tv babysitters-
Wait...answered my own question
Lol
I think the patrick show is just wacky in its own world but i like them all.
This reminds me of when FOx did the whole HUrricane event with Family Guy, Cleveland Show, and American Dad but done bad.
this is the problem with modern spongebob there to focused on relying on the past instead of making new ideas and even when they try they don't flesh them out enough mordern spongebob is just so confusing
Imagine if they had a splatoon crossover, I mean they had a splatfest of SpongeBob vs Patrick so it’s not that bad.
SpongeBob meets SpongeBob isn’t even a decent idea for a crossover but the fact Nick can’t even commit to it. Actually, not even the first time for this network
Sadly, the best artists and animators are all still in school, suicidal, dead, or they are too shy to work with people. Unfortunate.
I thought everything was supposed to be chrome in the future
They could've made a Nicktoons Unite crossover.
Banger idea
This is a crossover with...what exactly?
A crossover means characters from other shows and everything here is SpongeBob...
True, and Gary has some banger episodes, definitely could've been written better
With that logic, Sandy was super out-of-character and almost any robot character in the episodes was at least a bit out-of-character.
@@Pablo.673 That Sandy thing was out of character. That's one of the reasons why I hate it. It's not funny, I don't get it and it's too random. It's not a joke it's a non sequitur. Also the characters were all acting the same as they normally do except they were robots. SpongeBob loved his Job, Mr. Krabs liked Money, Squidward was annoyed with SpongeBob. Sandy and Gary were the only outliers. Why did they make the tough scientist Who loves karate a giant head that mergers with all the other robots. It makes no sense it's just stupid.
@@icecreamhero2375 SpongeBot and Pat-Tron weren't like their original versions. Maybe SquidBot and RoboKrabs were more similar to the original characters.
@@Pablo.673 You are really grasping at straws. Robot Patrick just got out of his rock. They were clearly meant to be just like their original versions only they are robots. I like most SpongeBob episodes but this was definitely one of their worst. Also what is the purpose of having their robot versions act out of character. How is that comedic.
i feel like these crossovers and spinoffs show EXACTLY why stephen hillenburg didnt want spinoffs of spongebob and such, it shows that these spinoffs will just take ideas from older episodes and try to make them more zany and crazy and such, i mean its actually so blatant its crazy and i mean i dont hate on modern spongebob, but they are just taking such a lazy route with the show and other shows aswell
As I expected. A typical cash in that fell flat on it's behind.
Absolutely
I think the only reason it isn't a flesh out crossover is cause Stephen didn't really want a crossover, yet considering that this all takes place in the spongebob universe this is the best we're gonna get, as for the episodes however, yea they could have fleshed it out more
I’d be done to see how you come up with writing these episodes AJ. Another argument could be the writers need more time. Are test audiences not a thing anymore?
Alpha Jay is my favorite Content Creator because he’s right.
Speaking of your point at 4:40, Family Guy writers also need to realize that new family guy shouldn't be repeating jokes.
to be honest I knew it wouldn't be that good coming from spongebobs track record
If you want to storyboard and rewrite these, I will absolutely provide the voices for Patrick, Squidward (the one I’m best at imitating) and SpongeBob.
SpongeBob has multiverse
Right….. right
i didnt even know these were supposed to be crossovers rippp
thats how you know its bad
Yeah, I agree that this special could have been a LOT better. However, if there is one saving grace for it, it's the episode You're Going to Pay Phone. It was funny, and it was nice to see Mr. Krabs actually get punished this time around.
I love your videos so much keep up the good work Man
Thank you so much!
If i didn't know better, i would've thought that the crossover was a whole "SpongeBob does a Twilight Zone spoof" special.
