Spongebob is a massive franchise, not only financially but culturally as well. With countless episodes, a few films and a backlog of games too, only a few of the big, fancy entries into the series get even a passing mention online.
One game that is sorely underrated has to be the nostalgic PC games that came out in the early 2000s for Windows XP. For this video, the hidden gem we'll be discussing today will be Spongebob Squarepants: Employee of the Month, released in 2002.
In this amateurish video, we'll be taking a deep dive into the entire game, all of its plot elements and gameplay mechanics. This is by far the longest video I've ever done, so I understand if you don't watch it all. 1 month well spent.

There's one other SpongeBob game that I'm trying to find but have never been able to. It was a flash game about Doodlebob sending doodle enemies after you. It played kind of like a first-person shooter where you wielded the pencil and would shoot the enemies with erasers. I remember the music from the cheap walk cycles playing in the game. Do you know what that game might be called? I remember playing it while at the library as a kid but part of me feels like it's just in my imagination.

I loved this game so much as a kid, I actually emailed THQ to ask for a rerelease. They politely said "We'd look into it" and never responded again.
What year did you email "THQ" ? Because I think you emailed THQ Nordic who probably couldn't get the licenses THQ once had. Not that that's the only thing preventing a re release

I had this game as a child. I have fond memories of playing it quite frequently, even trying to obtain the hidden VHS tape in each chapter. While true that this game is a little janky, I think the jankiness adds to the charm. I appreciate that someone is giving this game some recognition.
The jank of this game is what makes it special and gives it character in my opinion. It’s very unique and like nothing else. Also I just love the way most of the characters in this game talk like real people too.

Learning to type on a computer was hard for me as a kid bc I’m dyslexic, it’s amazing how much potential games have to inspire kids to love learning during their developmental years. We’ve only scratched the surface.

for MONTHS when i was a kid, i’d come home from school and watch a play through of the game everyday. i use to love this game so much.
These backgrounds are actually gorgeous, the added lightning on the places make them much more moody, which in addition to the caustics on the outdoor areas makes everything look much more decisively underwater and alive

Yeah I swear there are times where the PC games (minus Operation Krabby Patty since it was more a straight rip of the TV show’s artstyle) made Bikini Bottom look more enticing than the Pokémon world than the TV show could ever make it look.
Please continue with the Movie PC tie-in game. I genuinely haven’t been entertained by a TH-cam video like this in a long time :)

This unlocked something DEEP with in the folds of my brain, I for the life of me did not remember Employee of the Year at all until the car cleaning bit, I don't know what woke up from my psyche but it all came flooding back, hard. That was a very weird and surreal experience. Thank you for this.
these poorly (or not) made quests were my childhood i kid you not. They conveyed this feeling of coziness most games nowadays don't have. I FELT like i was at home (kind of), those silly jokes, soundtrack that was LITERALLY THE SAME IN ALL 4 GAMES, the gameplay that doesn't require for you to show some "skill". These games were made for those who want to experience SpongeBob's life in its beautiful simplicity and that's what I adore them for.
As a kid I would sit and watch those multiple hour longplays of this game and The Movie PC game in one sitting.

Seeing a one hour vid of this game is beautiful. I LOVE this game. AWE Games nailed the essence and message of SpongeBob with these games and I played this shit as a kid for HOURS. Good to see it made it across the sea as well. It's a shame AWE Games is no longer around and games like this no longer are made.
This is the one sponge bob game that was constantly making me happy and interested throughout the whole game. Would love to play it again.

@@hannahmac8483 All you need is to download it and run it on a virtual machine of windows XP. It’s very simple to set all that up it’s just finding a legit download that’s a little tricky, but if this guy can do it I know you can too!

Played this so much as a kid, became a core memory. For years i wanted to play this, but could never get it to run. Two months ago i tried again and finally got it to work, and relived this masterpiece from start to finish, absolutely loving every second. I'm so excited to see this game being shown to thousands of people and excited to watch this video c:

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO PLAYED THE FUNCLUB RENDITION OF THE SPONGEBOB GAMES! I've played this very specific version of the game ever since I was very little and still own mine and my brother's copy of it. The entire game is very creepy and feels like a major fever dream but is oh so nostalgic to my time growing up in Poland with my family in our very tiny house. Just like you, we didn't have access to any mainstream channels like Nickelodeon or CN before we moved to England and so we had to watch the Polish dubs on either our very broken PC or some channels on TV that played them in the morning before we went to school. I'm so happy someone also remembers this game and finally spoke about it because I swear to God, my friends thought I was going crazy when I asked them if they also played the creepy Spongebob movie game when they were growing up.
I actually recently tried to download it back onto my computer to play it for the memories but failed as my CD refused to load. It's sad, really, but I'm still so happy I have my favorite childhood game.

I've probably played this game at least 20 times through. My grandparents had an old PC that I'd play it on every time. Haven't thought of this game in over 10 years and currently getting the most intense nostalgia blast of all time. Anyone who has played this game knows how incredible it is.

I haven't thought about this game in about 20 years. My first "girlfriend" (well, we were as fond of one another as two 8-year-olds could be) got this game for her birthday and we were infatuated by it and played it all the time on her parents' PC after school. I later got Battle for Bikini Bottom which we then played on my parents' PC!

I remember this game in my grandmas weirdly massive collection of computer games in a 20lb book of cd sleeves. There was also a jimmy neutron game that I remember the music from bc it’s used in a lot of TH-cam videos as background music bc I think it was just some royalty free music lol

As someone who didn't know how to download or buy this game for PC, as a kid, I remember watching lots of gameplay videos. I didn't understand anything of the game back then because I'm not a native english speaker (Brazil 🇧🇷✌️). It's really nice to remember this game again, with a well produced video telling me all the story. Thank you!

I had this game as a CD demo when I was a kid. I believe I got it as a cereal box prize. I would replay it over and over again and it never got old! It's such a charming game from my favorite show of all time.

Wow, I can’t believe I found someone who’s talking about this game!! I have always had a vague memory of the scene where Mermaid man and barnacle boy were in a parking lot, but I had no idea this was the game until I saw rock bottom!
My local library’s computers all had Employee of the Month. Whenever I went to the library I’d always try to get as far as I could, but because they had a 60-minute limit on how long people could use the computers, I just ended up replaying the first section of the game over and over. Good memories.

I played this as a kid for like three weeks straight every day when I got home from school, and I still remember the entire Sublime Seafoods arc of the game, including how to get into the restaurant, and what the path to the area looked like lol

I got this game at a scholastic bookfare in the 3rd grade and I played it multiple times. Loved it and I still think of it very fondly and it holds that kind of “anything could happen in this game and all possibilities are endless” vibe that games had when you were really young.

I remember as a kid we had this super old library in my city like i’m pretty sure it was a warehouse at some point before they turned it into a library. But they had this little computer station and the only game on there was the spongebob movie game. I must have completed the first level at least 100 times before they shut down the old library to make the new one
man, i was really hoping based on the title it was Employee of the Month. i loved this game as a kid, i played it all the time. last year i went back and tried to play it, it still holds up pretty well (for being a 2002 Point n Click game). the humor is spot-on for the early seasons. i didn't understand probably HALF of the jokes as a kid, i was just happy to be playing a spongebob game. as an adult, i understand sooooo much more of the game.
Spongebob Movie game is also pretty solid, i got about 3/4 through it this spring. they don't make Spongebob games like they used to anymore.

I got this game as a gift when I was super young; loved it. Point and click games were my childhood. It's fun to look back and remember just how simple these games were, while for my kid brain they weren't easy at all.

Oh my god this reawakened so many childhood memories for me, I LOVED the car washing minigame, it was the main thing I remembered after so many years. Everything came back to me, the rotating low poly items, the golden coconut, the Squidward dream sequence, good LORD I missed this game. Very fun video about it!

THE PC VERSION OF THE MOVIE GAME HAS MODS?! I say this because I do not recall Spongebob dressing like the bartender minus the full peanut head.
Not mods, but it does actually got two cheat codes.
You press F12 while on the title screen and type in the code.
One code is PLANKTON, which adds costumes to the game.
And another code is AWEGAMES, which lets you click the Ship, and skip to any chapter.

Okay I gotta add my own story with this game because I think its hilarious. So my dad got me this game when I was about 5 years old. I was a die hard Spongebob fan and my dad wanted to get me something special for my birthday and since we played lots of point and click adventures together he thought hey lets get her this one.
Well he didnt read the packaging and didnt see that this game was in English only. My Dad didnt know English back then and little 5 year old me didnt know it either. It took us a good month to beat the game by clicking random stuff and looking up words. Worked out in the end. Fast forward 10 years, I was 15 and proficient enough in English to finally understand what the damn story was even about and my Dad and I played it together again only this time I translated everything for him so he could finally understand what the game wanted us to do all those years ago.
I am almost 24 now and we still talk about this every once in a while. It really was a game that got us closer

This is seriously one of my favorite games ever. my dad must have bought it for my older brothers and I first played it like 3 or 4 years after release. Then I rediscovered the disk in a drawer in middle school and replayed it. THEN i replayed it again just a few years ago, it was fun every time. Great video :)
