Spongebob is a massive franchise, not only financially but culturally as well. With countless episodes, a few films and a backlog of games too, only a few of the big, fancy entries into the series get even a passing mention online.
One game that is sorely underrated has to be the nostalgic PC games that came out in the early 2000s for Windows XP. For this video, the hidden gem we'll be discussing today will be Spongebob Squarepants: Employee of the Month, released in 2002.
In this amateurish video, we'll be taking a deep dive into the entire game, all of its plot elements and gameplay mechanics. This is by far the longest video I've ever done, so I understand if you don't watch it all. 1 month well spent.
Enjoy!

I've seen a couple comments about the song I used right at the beginning, it's called 'KRUSTY KREW ANTHEM' by KASH KRABS
yee
There's one other SpongeBob game that I'm trying to find but have never been able to. It was a flash game about Doodlebob sending doodle enemies after you. It played kind of like a first-person shooter where you wielded the pencil and would shoot the enemies with erasers. I remember the music from the cheap walk cycles playing in the game. Do you know what that game might be called? I remember playing it while at the library as a kid but part of me feels like it's just in my imagination.
Nevermind I found it. 😁 I thought it wasn't real this whole time but I found one video showing the game. th-cam.com/video/axUglOO1Q4o/w-d-xo.html
Yoo we have the same profile
Who remembers the spongebob level maker game
I loved this game so much as a kid, I actually emailed THQ to ask for a rerelease. They politely said "We'd look into it" and never responded again.
What year did you email "THQ" ? Because I think you emailed THQ Nordic who probably couldn't get the licenses THQ once had. Not that that's the only thing preventing a re release
@@qwopiretyuthey had a license relatively recently so they had the opportunity.
Oh hey, it's you
Woah I did not expect to see you here!! Love your videos.
You should ask again.
It’s nice to see one of my childhood games getting some attention.
“Sorry I took your can…”
“No problem! I hate you.”
Still makes me laugh
Specifically started digging through the comments to find this quote to see if the game I was thinking of was the one the video was about. This dialogue has never once left my brain.

This game was my whole childhood. It’s crazy how many hours I poured into it. Anyone else have the type to learn SpongeBob game? Learning to type on a computer was hard for me as a kid bc I’m dyslexic, it’s amazing how much potential games have to inspire kids to love learning during their developmental years. We’ve only scratched the surface.
i had the typing game!!! i remember a part scaring me though where its like a maze i think and the senses of the body (smell, taste, sight(?), touch, etc) or something
@@AllThrill Oh my God I remember that too. Somehow Spongebob had gone into a coma or something? What is it with Spongebob licensed games and oddly compelling unexpectedly dark tones lmao

Played this so much as a kid, became a core memory. For years i wanted to play this, but could never get it to run. Two months ago i tried again and finally got it to work, and relived this masterpiece from start to finish, absolutely loving every second. I'm so excited to see this game being shown to thousands of people and excited to watch this video c:
how’d you get it to work if i may ask
@@adi_Iastname i downloaded a windows xp emulator, copied the games files over, and it worked just fine after installing
I had this game as a child. I have fond memories of playing it quite frequently, even trying to obtain the hidden VHS tape in each chapter. While true that this game is a little janky, I think the jankiness adds to the charm. I appreciate that someone is giving this game some recognition.
The jank of this game is what makes it special and gives it character in my opinion. It’s very unique and like nothing else. Also I just love the way most of the characters in this game talk like real people too.
Same! I played this game over and over when I was a kid.
I don’t watch spongebob nor did I as I kid but my brother got me this game and I played the hell out of it good memories
I Never played this one but I played Battle for Bikini Bottom
Same! Seeing this was so nostalgic.
These backgrounds are actually gorgeous, the added lightning on the places make them much more moody, which in addition to the caustics on the outdoor areas makes everything look much more decisively underwater and alive
Oh yeah they were amazing for me then, as is now!
Yeah I swear there are times where the PC games (minus Operation Krabby Patty since it was more a straight rip of the TV show’s artstyle) made Bikini Bottom look more enticing than the Pokémon world than the TV show could ever make it look.
This game alongside a few others has really made me respect media archivists that dedicate time to keeping these games remembered. Thank you for this video 🙏🏻
I love the small-budget feel, I hope the people who worked on it are proud of it!
I remember playing this on my parent's computer regularly when I was a kid. It was legit one of the only few games I ever played to completion at the time, I'm so happy to see it get recognition
me too!! essentially the exact same experience
Literally. I spent countless hours on this game as a kid. So good
Now to hope eventually the old CN courage the cowardly dog game gets a review like this
Yo, what about that weird ass turn based with.. cards or whatever? Honestly it was my shit for me but idfr what it's called or anything else about it
Meloetta
Please continue with the Movie PC tie-in game. I genuinely haven’t been entertained by a TH-cam video like this in a long time :)
Loved that one too!!!!
Couldn’t agree more! Loved this video and hope for more, and I hope this one gets more views!
Beavis and Butthead in Virtual Stupidity
I’m literally praying he plays the movie game
Oh mannn that game was so great!!!!
I had this game as a CD demo when I was a kid. I believe I got it as a cereal box prize. I would replay it over and over again and it never got old! It's such a charming game from my favorite show of all time.
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. It’s always so funny and interestingly animated
As a kid I would sit and watch those multiple hour longplays of this game and The Movie PC game in one sitting.
Same, that’s how I remember this game. I always wanted to play but didn’t know how as a kid, it reminds me a lot of the PSA missions in club penguin, where you could also interact with stuff just for the sake of it & it felt like you were actually in the game’s world.
You unlocked a core memory🔥
same
ik me too, world of long plays was my cable tv
Same here, they were so facinating.
This is the one sponge bob game that was constantly making me happy and interested throughout the whole game. Would love to play it again.
The cutscenes are hilarious and original too
I've been searching for years for a way to play it again with no luck, I still have hope
Same bro
look up dgvoodoo2 and put it into the game folder and it'll run on modern systems.
@@hannahmac8483 All you need is to download it and run it on a virtual machine of windows XP. It’s very simple to set all that up it’s just finding a legit download that’s a little tricky, but if this guy can do it I know you can too!
I didnt expect an "everything at the end of time" in a video about a one-off spongebob game.
This is.. glorious.
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO PLAYED THE FUNCLUB RENDITION OF THE SPONGEBOB GAMES! I've played this very specific version of the game ever since I was very little and still own mine and my brother's copy of it. The entire game is very creepy and feels like a major fever dream but is oh so nostalgic to my time growing up in Poland with my family in our very tiny house. Just like you, we didn't have access to any mainstream channels like Nickelodeon or CN before we moved to England and so we had to watch the Polish dubs on either our very broken PC or some channels on TV that played them in the morning before we went to school. I'm so happy someone also remembers this game and finally spoke about it because I swear to God, my friends thought I was going crazy when I asked them if they also played the creepy Spongebob movie game when they were growing up.
I actually recently tried to download it back onto my computer to play it for the memories but failed as my CD refused to load. It's sad, really, but I'm still so happy I have my favorite childhood game.
Seeing a one hour vid of this game is beautiful. I LOVE this game. AWE Games nailed the essence and message of SpongeBob with these games and I played this shit as a kid for HOURS. Good to see it made it across the sea as well. It's a shame AWE Games is no longer around and games like this no longer are made.
Its pretty much routine for me to watch a playthrough of this game ATLEAST twice a month
SAMEEEEEEEE i have a whole saved playlist for it💀💀
You just unlocked a portion of my childhood I'd locked away deep inside my memories. I loved this game! Probably played it like twice through around 2007 or so, and apparently forgot about it since. Thanks for letting me relive it again :)
I've probably played this game at least 20 times through. My grandparents had an old PC that I'd play it on every time. Haven't thought of this game in over 10 years and currently getting the most intense nostalgia blast of all time. Anyone who has played this game knows how incredible it is.
Also as a current high school English teacher you are a great media analyst and hilarious Gatsby reference too!
Huh, this game was on my grandparents' computer too. One of the games the cousins and myself would huddle around and play.
I wouldn't call nitpicking a game made for little kids is enough to make someone a "great media analyst" lmao.
Wait til ur about to be 40 wondering where ur life went. 😢seein nostalgic things just makes ur heart hurt and wish ud be gone from this floating rock
Same
Every time i Was at my grandpas house, i played it trough. 20+ Times
I had this one on a disk, loved it so much
OH MY GOD!! IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS GAME FOR LITERAL YEARS,
I HONESTLY WAS STARTING TO THINK THIS GAME WAS JUST A DREAM-
I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW HAPPY I AM THAT YOU MADE THIS VIDEO
Dear God I thought I was the only one!!
It tools years to type “all SpongeBob games” on google and go through it?
ME TOO!! i ADORED watching the playthrough when i was a kid! :3
I played this game so many times as a kid, but none of my friends had ever even heard of it so it’s cool to see it getting some love now
Finally this game is being talked about. Its somehow been simultaneously forgotten and always on my mind for the last almost 20 years
Good analysis, thank you for reviewing it from a positive angle, and great comedy
The itch that this scratched in my brain is unbelievable - it also made me realise that the fake phone number I've given out before is partly based on the phone number SpongeBob has to find for the fancy restaurant...
The pc SpongeBob games were honestly pretty damn cool trust me I’ve never forgotten them. Great video man love to see someone talking about it
no way! i’m 27 now, and i must’ve played this when i was like 6 years old! i remember making it to the end. what a trip back to the past hahah
I thought no one else but me played these shovelware games. My dad used to go to the library to borrow and rip CDs of dozens educational games. I remember the sequel to this being particularly good.
It makes me really happy to see this gem getting the attention it deserves. When i was a kid for the longest time this was the only game i owned for years and years happily so
Nostalgia is a crazy thing man. This video gave me a disturbingly warm and fuzzy feeling.
I got this game as a gift when I was super young; loved it. Point and click games were my childhood. It's fun to look back and remember just how simple these games were, while for my kid brain they weren't easy at all.
an hour long commentary on my fav game. literally thank you so much. i forgot that so many people love this game. i actually ended up emulating it earlier this year. the vibes are so good
My local library’s computers all had Employee of the Month. Whenever I went to the library I’d always try to get as far as I could, but because they had a 60-minute limit on how long people could use the computers, I just ended up replaying the first section of the game over and over. Good memories.
On a real note Why is the production so good you have a great mic and good editing, and somehow you have under 1k views this is better than a lot of popular TH-camrs keep up the great work
Gets 92K views in less than 2 days

This is amazing! It's like an alternate take of the glove world episode. Completely on brand and in universe. I would've loved this but i didn't know it existed. Must not have been promoted well.
Oh my god this reawakened so many childhood memories for me, I LOVED the car washing minigame, it was the main thing I remembered after so many years. Everything came back to me, the rotating low poly items, the golden coconut, the Squidward dream sequence, good LORD I missed this game. Very fun video about it!
I adore this game!! I have so many good memories of playing this game as a kid. It's really nice to see a review of it looking back at it! Also, I enjoy your humor and editing. Hope you get more subs!
Okay I gotta add my own story with this game because I think its hilarious. So my dad got me this game when I was about 5 years old. I was a die hard Spongebob fan and my dad wanted to get me something special for my birthday and since we played lots of point and click adventures together he thought hey lets get her this one.
Well he didnt read the packaging and didnt see that this game was in English only. My Dad didnt know English back then and little 5 year old me didnt know it either. It took us a good month to beat the game by clicking random stuff and looking up words. Worked out in the end. Fast forward 10 years, I was 15 and proficient enough in English to finally understand what the damn story was even about and my Dad and I played it together again only this time I translated everything for him so he could finally understand what the game wanted us to do all those years ago.
I am almost 24 now and we still talk about this every once in a while. It really was a game that got us closer
Awesome memory. Thanks for sharing!
That's amazing
Same. What was wrong with them? Even if they are too lazy to translate it and still need to sell it in other Countries, they could've at least made the Text about it being completely in english bigger, or even better: don't translate the f-ing Packaging to scam Kids
I reeeeaally enjoyed this and the comedic timing you have is amazing
OMG thank you for making a video on this, i havent thought of this game since i played it as a kid!!!! So many memories ❤
You can only just barely catch it in this video but at 7:10 you can see what SpongeBob says when he clicks on it "Ahhh... Sandy Cheeks. looking at her makes me smile!"
BRO HOW DID THEY GET THAT PAST NICK💀💀💀
I gotta say, I've beat this game several thousand times over as a kid, and I NEVER knew there was a hint system.
also one of my favorite games from my childhood that I just recently replayed, I think you did a wonderful job summarizing all my feelings of the charm this game has. Great video!!
Ah man the nostalgia. Played this games years ago when I was a kid. Spent way too many hours on it since I didn't have the best PC at the time to play high end games. This video made me realise how great this game really was as a Spongebob game. The backgrounds are what I still love the most about this game. The devs really payed attention to the artistic style of Spongebob for each of the chapter's backgrounds so gotta give them kudos for that (the animations although horrific in some cases do have certain charm to them which I also appreciate) plus the little details I missed as a kid I also appreciate about this game. And the music for this game was just too good and catchy to listen to. Also, you got yourself a sub my guy. Watched the whole vid and was entertained by not only your editing but your honest and funny humour.
This game was my childhood!! I remember trying out the demo then getting the full game later on
Awesome video!! I hope youtube gives you more views cause this video is so well done 🙌🏾
I hadn’t heard someone talk about this game, and it unlocked so many memories, specifically the loading screen
dude I really love this video, the passion u and the devs both have for this game really shines through, tysm for making this lovely trip through one of ur childhood games
Masterclass of a video. I forgot all about this game, but it is such a vivid memory now to see it again. Earned my sub.
Hey this video it's a BANGER!! I really enjoyed every minute of it. It definitely should have WAY more views, hope this video gets popular.
As someone who didn't know how to download or buy this game for PC, as a kid, I remember watching lots of gameplay videos. I didn't understand anything of the game back then because I'm not a native english speaker (Brazil 🇧🇷✌️). It's really nice to remember this game again, with a well produced video telling me all the story. Thank you!
Esse jogo é brabo
I love seeing this game get much-deserved attention.
I'm so glad I've finally seen a video loving on this game. I grew up with it too, and since I lost my disc drive I haven't been able to play it in well over a decade, so I've forgotten some of the scenes. Great video, about a great game.
i grew up watching playthroughs of these games, so i'm really glad to see someone finally talking about them/ they're genuinely great!
Absolutely phenomenal video! You are extreamly underrated, you deserve WAY more subs
this was a very enjoyable retrospective on a game that i’ve never played. those rock bottom environments looked so damn good. 10/10 video good shit bro
I never played it either but this was still very nostalgic for me since I remember loving the let’s play on this game
I just loved every minute of this extended review of these sponge bob games. Your sense of humor is fantastic and brings me so much joy to subscribe to a new channel that I am certain whatever will come with next time, will be something that I will be taking the pleasure of watching.
It’s amazing to me how much of this game I remembered, from the scenes and “quests”, to some of the quirky lines or accents. I can’t even count how many times I must have played this game basically 20 years ago. Thanks for giving this game, in all of its jankiness, some recognition and reigniting some of these old childhood memories :)
It's so cool to see someone talk about this game in-depth. It's so goofy and nostalgic
damn this video not even having 1k views is definitely the proof of algorithm hell. u got mad potential
coming back seeing your vid having 650k views now really puts a smile on my face :) glad u made it out of the algorithm hell
i played this game so much, my dad bought it for me for christmas once. loved this game.... there are so many youtube videos about other spongebob games but ive never seen this one. great video jonny! brought back nice memories
Wow, I can’t believe I found someone who’s talking about this game!! I have always had a vague memory of the scene where Mermaid man and barnacle boy were in a parking lot, but I had no idea this was the game until I saw rock bottom!
It is insane how absolutely amazing the art and backgrounds are in the game like wow
Yeah it looks like actual artists made that
Two months late but I still have so many good memories of Employee of the Month as a kid, was one of the best games I had before I got my hands on a 3ds, remembered this game a few weeks ago but had completely forgot what it was called, so seeing a video covering this game is honestly amazing!
one of my fond childhood memories was borrowing this game from my friend for a month at a time so i could play it over and over. needless to say ive watched this video two days in a row now, thanks for this nostalgia trip ill keep coming back to :)
this video is so underrated this video needs at least 50k views
I got this game at a scholastic bookfare in the 3rd grade and I played it multiple times. Loved it and I still think of it very fondly and it holds that kind of “anything could happen in this game and all possibilities are endless” vibe that games had when you were really young.
i have to i have to comment before i wtach the entire thing i am just so excited a video like this even exists!!! i looooove this game so much so so much. i reference it so much it is such a comforting piece of media it has my whole heart. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!! :D
This is seriously one of my favorite games ever. my dad must have bought it for my older brothers and I first played it like 3 or 4 years after release. Then I rediscovered the disk in a drawer in middle school and replayed it. THEN i replayed it again just a few years ago, it was fun every time. Great video :)
man, i was really hoping based on the title it was Employee of the Month. i loved this game as a kid, i played it all the time. last year i went back and tried to play it, it still holds up pretty well (for being a 2002 Point n Click game). the humor is spot-on for the early seasons. i didn't understand probably HALF of the jokes as a kid, i was just happy to be playing a spongebob game. as an adult, i understand sooooo much more of the game.
Spongebob Movie game is also pretty solid, i got about 3/4 through it this spring. they don't make Spongebob games like they used to anymore.
Yeah they’re way too focused on making it kid friendly rather than something like this where your kind of on your own, the only thing I didn’t get about the game was why some characters act like your accusing them of murder when talking to them, maybe once it’s random and funny but it becomes really weird the more times it happens.
Anyone remember SpongeBob’s Big Adventure game?
Really old game and prequel to SpongeBob’s Next Big Adventure
OMG I REMEMBER THISS!! i remember i spent so long trying to look for any info on this game but i couldnt find anything! ty for making this video i'm so glad it's finally getting attention.
The music that plays while you’re in the crusty crab in the beginning is so incredibly nostalgic

i haven't seen the full video yet but thank you for covering this game
this was my favorite game to play when I was younger and my introduction to point and click adventure games, a genre that I love to this day
this was one of the only pc games i had in the early 2000's (and one of the only ones i enjoyed) so i played it over and over again for the longest. i haven't really seen anyone cover this game so thanks for making this and making me feel nostalgic as hell. think i might try to play it again lol
