This video shows you how to set up the Avantone MixCube to your audio interface in Mono with a Monitor controller.
Note - the audio interface used is both an audio interface and monitor controller in this video called the "Mackie Big Knob Studio" (see my unboxing here):
itsGratuiTous.com/unboxing-th...
You can purchase an audio interface and monitor controller separately, but the Mackie Big Knob Studio is the easiest all-in-one solution..

Exact info I was looking for.. I had a Y Cable in my cart about to purchase it. Thanks for the save!
Yes electrical engineering very interesting stuff... glad I found that info too.. you need resistors in the lines, or get a mono summing alternative! itsgratuitous.com/
Exactly what I’ve been doing n it works flawlessly
Yeah a pretty simple fix if you have the Mackie BIG KNOB Studio:

Thanks for this information!
You are welcome. Was interesting to know about not combining the two wires together.. Here's the write-up about connecting Avantone Mixcube in Mono: itsgratuitous.com/setup-avantone-mixcube-to-audio-interface/
Helpful, thank you
Hey, you're welcome!!
Thank you sir. Subscribed!
No prob.. this unit left me with a couple questions, make sure to read the article for more details:

Thanks man. I have the Apollo Twinx X and iìm using the alt function to switch between my adam audio's and the mixcube. Only thing, i'm a little pissed i also have to hit that mono button when switching, i wish there was a way to have that automatically set to mono in the console software
Ya, the only other alternative is to solder a cable with the resistors.. I have the image on my article here: itsgratuitous.com/setup-avantone-mixcube-to-audio-interface/
I have the same monitor but the plusdo i necessarily need 2 mix cubes? If im using as reference for phone's computers etc
I just use the one single Avantone Mixcube speaker. If you purchase two, I think most people prefer to squish them together so that they are pretty much touching. This will give you a bit more loudness out of them, but the price and space needed goes up quite a bit. Here's my latest Avantone MixCube Review if interested:
th-cam.com/video/wg8Yyis9BM0/w-d-xo.html
What if I have 2 cubes can I hook them up as. U 3rd set of monitors...no modifications
You can set them up as a pair yes. Typically people have the one as a mono source. You can also squish the two speakers together to get more volume, but get a similar mono experience. If you wanted to space them a part, you could do that.. but would probably be better to get a regular pair of speakers at that point..
Focusrite has A-B switch as well
Yes, but the B is RCA, is it not? What model are you talking about?
@@itsGratuiTous 2i4 2nd generation.
@@YesRelax No, this A-B Switch is not the same - that is for the headphones port only I think! The Mackie switches banks of speakers with 1/4" Balanced!
@@itsGratuiTous 😟😟 oh god
Is putting a mono Plugin on your master in your DAW the same as doing this? Is it better to have mono through the interface?
Mono in the DAW is the exact same thing, however, the DAW approach just takes longer. Are you using this exact speaker, or using your stereo reference speakers down to mono?
I'd advice against doing it in the DAW. It's happened several times I've exported mono mixdowns and masters due to that 🫣
So now I try to avoid mono'ing in the DAW 🙂
Mono in DAW is an easy way to test on a budget still, but that is definitely a good workflow point, and it’s slower as I commented above
How could you do this on a Yamaha mg10xu and switch between speaker ?
You could potentially use one of those groups (1-2, or 3-4) - It looks like there's a ST (Stereo button) to make things mono.. No promises, but it looks possible!!
@@itsGratuiTous thanks man !!!
No problem!
Let me know how it works out..

Mmm and with an audio interface it can be possible? I got a mono cable
You have to plug just one output of the audio interface (left or right) into the MixCube.. then in your DAW you'd select Mono. It's a slow workflow, but it's do-able if you're on budget!
By having a monitor controller, you press "Mono", and it sums it for you (much faster!)
What is a mono cable? Is it the regular TRS cable? And if I connect it to the left or right output it’ll give me Mono as well?
i don't understand sir.what cable u use?trs-trs or ts-ts?
I use TRS to TRS cable. It also allows XLR input as well.
Greetings, I have only one "Avantone Pro Active MixCube 5.25 Inches Powered Studio Monitor". However, afterwards, I started to wonder how I'm going to connect it to the versatile and fantastic "AudioFuse Studio" by Arturia, to which I already have 2 set of speakers connected:
The "IK Multimedia iLoud MTM (Single) 100W, Dual 3" woofer Premium Compact Studio Monitor Powered Speakers" and another 2 of the same brand: The IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitor 50 watt Portable Wireless Bluetooth Studio Reference Monitors, Dual Speakers.
The question I have is:
how do I connect one "Avantone Pro Active MixCube 5.25 Inches Powered Studio Monitor" to the AudioFuse Studio interface?
If you already have the connections full, you cannot add a new speaker!
If the Avantone is available, you just plug in 1 TRS cable, then switch to "Mono" mode, if the audio interface supports it.
Hope that helps.. itsGratuiTous.com
@@itsGratuiTous ...Thanks.
This was is what Arturia Support answerred the question I tried but it wont work or at list Dint well undestood how:
"This was the Arturia Sopport answer: hank you for using our instruments!
This indeed is possible.
Here is how to setup the Speakers B outputs as independent 3-4 outputs:
IMPORTANT: make sure your AudioFuse is using the Power Supply Unit and that it's Power Mode is configured to AUTO. you can configure this with the AudioFuse Control Center , under preferences.
I- Open the AudioFuse Control Center and click on the button that says "FROM PHONE 2" under Settings, this allows you to treat the Output 3-4 as a separate output instead of a Speaker B output. Than Select Cue 1 as the Bus on Phones 2 output, The level of the Output 3-4 will be now controlled by the Phones 2 Level Knob , so adjust it to a good level."
@@eaabr9595 You just need to have the same audio come out of both 1-2, and 3-4. Then switch banks of speakers from the buttons on the Audio Interface. When going to 3-4, you'll also need to press "Mono" for the Single Speaker! I'm not sure how their audio interface is setup.. I really don't like how companies are creating software to manage an audio interface...
This is what Arturia told me:
"The Audio Fuse Control Center allows you to TURN ON/OFF The ReAmping feature for the Auxiliary Outputs:
"Then, just make sure to route the desired outputs from your DAW to Out 7.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,"
Boom easy as that. You only need to add a $300 piece of gear. Boom! Easy!🙄
How are you trying to connect the Avantone Mixcube? Do you have one already? There's also the solder your own cable method I share in the article:
itsgratuitous.com/setup-avantone-mixcube-to-audio-interface/
I use a whirlwind IMP line level combiner for mine. Found one on EBay for like $75, new are $150. You could also just use the Mackie passive big knob that has this same mono feature for $70, which you might need anyway unless your interface has at least 2 dedicated monitor outs. Otherwise you are constantly unplugging/plugging in cables
You can set most interfaces and especially monitor controllers to mono so idk why you have an attitude lol. This person just happens to have the more expensive big knob but even the passive big knob switcher is pretty cheap, especially if youre looking to buy monitors as expensive as an avantone mix cube.
