At 3:51 you can actually get over the top before the water level rises with a carefully timed down right grab on the very end corner if you gain enough height, you can grab cancel your backwards momentum and just reach seems like this should be faster. May be an improvement.
I really love this game. A beautiful and cool platformer. It's a pity sega didn't develop ristar and made a sequel. They've had enough of killing Sonic. It would be better to develop this game.
So you’re playing the Japanese version. In the Japanese version the fifth boss looks like a robotic cat while in the English version he’s a melting snowman
Using the JP version was a no brainer, because it’s a faster speedrun. In that same level with the melting ice man, there is an intro in the US version. Even if it’s skipable (assuming it is, I haven’t played the game that fair) it would still take up a few frames to skip it.
The US version also added a short mid-level cutscene in the level "Law? Chaos?" where Ristar equips himself with anti-gravity shoes, which takes up an approximated second of total runtime.
Sadly, because when they made the game Sega was already moving to the Sega Saturn in Japan, and it was only 3 months before the Sega Saturn released in the US after this. They did have plans for a sequel having three other playable star characters using their legs, body, or ears to attack instead, but it was instantly scrapped because it didn't sell well.
me or just game ? i though version change, I remember on 18:00 - it was snowman ? I havent seen robotic cat 30:51 (at the end?) Ristar calling '"Dad!"' and Dad call "'Son!'" cutscenes verison, I seen like master/crazy hand character from SSB
@@RyneMcKinney possible but i think its good no others were made sega now has more fans of ristar and might have better ideas for a reboot or 2nd game and the fans will be more hyped
Yes. The Japanese version helps with easier speedruns because level skips aren’t incredibly time-consuming. The game moving faster allows for faster speedruns, whereas the European & American versions aren’t that generous.
Ristar failed because Ristar is not cool. SEGA (in-house team) made Alex Kidd (a Son Wukong rip-off, but the Western cover art was some ugly, *ugly*-ass art of an American child that looked nothing like the in-game sprite). They made Ristar. They made Nights into Dreams. All of these things were attempts at mascots, and none of them were cool. The only mascot SEGA made that was cool was Sonic, and that was because-- and they admitted this-- they stuck Felix the Cat's head on Mickey Mouse's body and it somehow worked. They took two kinda cute and kinda lame international phenomenon characters and threw them together. That's some Japanese character logic if I ever saw it. For this and many other reasons, SEGA has always been clueless, which is why they failed.
I think that along with this, there's also the fact that this game was released in 1995, kinda late for the Megadrive. Sega was moving into the new system, the Saturn, and that's why they didn't simply cared about this game. The situation is very similar to Super Mario RPG.
Idk, man. I view Ristar as incredible. Only recently have I played Sonic Mania, but even still, mascots like Ristar are deserving of love & appreciation.
SEGA really was the moment with so many games.

What a exceptional TAS. Fun to watch and an amazing display of technical skill. I hope it's a candidate for Stars tier.

I love this underrated ass game. Sonic Mega Collection Plus memories.
I love this game. Why didn't sega produce a sequel? This game is so memorable for so many reasons.
Cus SEGA are money hungry pigs and only care about milking Sonic
The game was doomed from the start, it was released at the end of the Genesis lifespan
Should've been ported to the Sega Saturn like other Sonic games such as Sonic 3D Blast.
There was going to be a sequel but it was cancelled
@@deiksosame with Vectorman for the next gen, but that got cancelled too. That’s on top of Blue Sky Software & SEGA ending their relationship.
Such a beautiful game - the music and graphics pair together so well. Congrats to Upthorn!
I love the colour palette so gorgeous and everything you said as well.

Rister Is My Favorite Game On Sega I Miss This Game I Remember When I Was 11 And I Was In 6th Grade I Used To Play It All The Time!!! 🎮
Did you guys know in when greedy spawns a black hole the sound effect is the sound of someone's super form in sonic 3 and knuckles
Also the sound of those shooting orbs at the begining of the battle
This is the best Sega game (in my opinion)
Honestly, this game's better than the first Sonic games
ristart should have been the mascot of sega
FWIW his designer would go on to redesign Sonic and be the official artist of the series for a while.
Not if there are two
Nice this good video games
I hope Sega remasters this game in 2025 for it’s 30th anniversary.
They totally forgot him and also nights into dreams 😭
Oh wow an invisible enemy just chilling there! I didn’t know he was there before 13:48
SNES: "genesis doesn't have that much color-"
This game: "r u sure?"
Ristar just said Asta La Viesta baby. No way 😭 i love this game
It will be cool if Sega an Ubisoft was to do a Ristar an Rayman cross over.
Bro you are a beast

ristar's idle stance is smiling. you can tell it's the japanese version just from that.
18:10 hot pie
I hope im not the only one who noticed him just chilling on a spike at 13:50
lol you mean on 13:48 not 13:50!
Why they didn't make a part 2?
Stupid Saturn

Freedom
Honestly, they're all great, I can't pick a fav
Planet Flora
Sonata Planet
Probablyyyyyy Planet Freon

"ristar is not sonic... he's not about speed"

Is there any reason to make the high score at the end of each stage??
Drx from hidden palace: the game
10:04 lol was this boss i see in the area
nice game!
hi
18:07 so you are in the japan ver.?
Huh neat
Imagine how much shorter this would be if Ristar could sprint
I guess they had to compensate for Ristar’s slow speed because the levels are so short. Saying that, though, this would make it much easier.
not bad
W Game
You can hit the monkey when he's on the king's back without having to headbutt the king, would be faster to do that
I did that on one of my most recent playthroughs of Ristar
Sega Genesis / Mega Drive (Ristar: The Shooting Star)
Windows 8 / Windows Xp (Ristar: The Shooting Star)
But this is japanse version
Yes. The Japanese version helps with easier speedruns because level skips aren’t incredibly time-consuming. The game moving faster allows for faster speedruns, whereas the European & American versions aren’t that generous.
This game is too slow pace for me I have it but not my style of gameplay
