45:30 "I did this using one life! And I took less than an hour!" Guess what Cranky? This TAS somehow got "101%" without playing every level or getting every bonus stage, in less than an hour, using ....... 5 lives?
I died once. While all normal levels were played, the only thing I didn't do was the World 2 boss, as bosses don't count for the % counter. All bonuses were entered, even though you can use start+select on the frame when entering to have them count. But yeah, Cranky is stroooong!
@@MetalRythm07 You mean if there is a special message from Cranky? No, there is not. The only difference is that he will mention if you found all bonuses.
11:17 This is the kind of DKC boss I'd be overly terrified of, if it were to be in real life. It's bad enough for me that normal bees are a thing, due to the trama I had as a kid by getting stung in the ear once, but because of this DKC boss, I'd definitely have PTSD (if that's the right description I'm looking for).
I was working on this run during a timespan of 10 years. I had to restart the entire run several times due to finding new improvements as well as changing emulator to a more accurate one 2-3 times. A total of 651293 rerecords were used during the process, which is an extremely high number. Though the actual hours I put into this... impossible to tell, 1000-2000 hours or something I imagine.
@@FuriousSamIAm A lot of people don't understand the process that is TASing. Thinking that "it's just a bot" or that "it's easy to do because you use tools". Though there is a lot of blood and tears behind the scenes :)
@@TompaA Yeah I bet there is! When you see that some emulators allow you to input commands frame by frame (Yeah I don't know the proper technological terms lol), you can imagine the things you could do and already tell it can be a pain in the ass...
They should make a speedrun category that involves winning the bonuses with a win animation. Poor Diddy must've destroyed several hats through all these speedrunning years. I'm aware that's hardly possible, given the variability the inevitable reach of animal partner bonuses would introduce. Still, poor kongs :
I was always wondering who ever wants to listen to cranky kong in this game for some genersl talking shit, like talking about early games from the 80’s and say that “todays games” ( from the early 90’s) were super modern sith eye popping graphics etc… (even in the downgraded gameboycolor version he complains about those things, haha) To me he should,ve talked like this in those wii spin offs from those games as well as in donkeykong 64 because those graphics are sharper and waaaay more advanced and true 3D. Also i found the atoryline in donkeykong land (the early sequel to this game) very very weird because of this as well🤣 Sure the graphics were impressive back in 1994 but saying on the box art ,a new “3D adventure” ??? Hack even the (later) snes game toy story have more 3D depth into it thenthis game, so was cranky kong not exaggerating? Well atleast he can give you some usual tips, especially at the end whether you did found everything or not🤣
I'm a real person though, I just played it frame by frame and used save states. But yes, I know what you meant. Too many are too lazy to check video descriptions to educate themselves of what they have been watching, regardless what kind of content it is, which is a shame =/.
For normal speedrunning: It's fun because it gives you a new challenge and huge reply value to the game. You test your skills to the max. People who speedrun have already "enjoyed the game the normal way" several times before speedrunning, doing it casually provides nothing new and no general entertainment for the player. I assure you that speedrunners enjoy this a lot more than regular gameers. For Tool-Assisted Speedrun, and as the author of this specific run: As TASes are very different in comparision, so are the goals, purposes and skills needed to finish one. You need a great game knowledge to make a fully optimised TAS. One of the challenges and enjoyable parts is to get a better understanding on how and why things work in the game, and what you need to do to fully optimised your movements. For this run, I constantly learned new things about the game which resulted in my having to restart the run, which is one of the reasons this run took 10 years to finish. It wasn't really worked on daily for those 10 years, though, but still an on-going project. It's extremely satisfying to see the result of what you have been struggling with for a very long time, that alone is worth it to me.
Diddy loves destroying his hat
20:29 this part still amazes me
It still annoys me. I learned about the split up glitch and the animal buddies glitch and this is one of those "i had that idea first" moments
