Thanks Dr Chaffee I’m an ultra marathoner and recently transitioned to Carnivore trying to work out my nutrition strategy! Eating nothing makes it so simple never could tolerate gels etc while running always have had GIT issues. Running in a fasted state is really easy

You may find that you will need to use some carbs during your longer efforts as a tool. I usually use 20-25g per hour fruits/raw honey. Fruit based gels..
I stay animal based all other times. It's been working for me but we are all different!

That's great! I've definitely noticed that as well. There was a guy in Australia who recently ran five consecutive marathons on 5 days and was fasting for all 5 days straight, so he never ate even after the marathons. So that's a good 5 days and 130 miles later with no food! How are you feeling in your performance now that you are carnivore?

    • @red-baitingswine8816

But marathon running seems imo to be almost 100% aerobic, thus requiring very little glucose, unlike, say sprinting or resistance training (or rugby).

  • @thegram9207

That is what people running on carbs do not understand . They think you must carb up or die . The carbing up makes that true - seemingly .

They don't teach this in schools. I don't recall insulin being explained....I do remember the term "sugar crash," which isn't accurate. A bit of deception going on, or just erroneous?

This makes so much sense. Even before starting the carnivore diet, I realized how much better I felt and performed lifting weights in the morning on an empty stomach. Now, every workout is in a fasted state with a lot of energy.

The carnivore bar is just pemmican. Get a food dehydrator or use the oven, dry out some lean meat, blend or crush it up into powder or extremely small pieces, then add an equal amount of tallow. Salt if you want it. There's your pemmican.

What the? This is so relatable. I still play hockey in a semi pro league, we play at 8pm and we're just so used to thinking to eat before games but it significantly dropped my performance and energy levels even when I eat in the morning. So what I did is I ate a lot the day/night before then voila, just consistent performance the next day. So yeah, I also decided to not eat at all before games.
Do note that it takes a while for this to happen because you need to be fully fat adapted and don't neglect your hydration during that game day.

It's freakishly weird that all of that eat meat have the exact same story. I have/was physically disabled from pain since 2010 from what I thought was caused by one too many work injuries. Since I was a child I had stomach/bowel symptoms. And when I told all my doctors specialists and pain management doctor that my worst pain was right after eating and I felt much better if I just didn't eat. And every single one for 14 years acted as if I hadn't even spoken. I have been eating meat since August and what a gift it has been on every level. Carpel tunnel isn't even real. They said mine was severe and needed immediate surgery back in 2018. So glad I didn't say yes to neck back wrist surgery meat and fat fixed it all. Thank you to all those that put out carnivore videos it saved my life. I thought I would be living in a wheelchair in my 70's 20 years from now

This was extremely interesting because it’s the first time I’ve heard that it’s fine to eat just before you go to bed, which is what I like to do. I never eat in the morning as I feel so much better exercising on an empty stomach. I try not to eat carbs but find myself waking in the night and, if I’ve exercised a lot during the day, I need a sugar binge and then I sleep beautifully until the morning. Maybe the answer is to eat more fat at night.

As a former competitive cyclist it is hard for me to imagine not using sugar. In a race you will burn through your glycogen stores right around the time you have to put in some big anaerobic efforts and I doubt glycogen replenishment would happen fast enough, but would love to hear your thoughts. I am 1 week into carnivore.

That is in the first 2 days of a 3-5 day fast I am speaking of.
I used a small amount to curb any issues with hunger. What do you think sir ???

It makes sense. If you don't have the energy to fight and run while fasting carnivores (like humans) would have died out!
I wonder if there are studies that show if hunters are better at catching prey when hungry 🤔.

  • @SteveSteve7590-di2dn
    @SteveSteve7590-di2dn 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The „feeling better“ and „being energized „in a fasted state is due to elevated cortisol and adrenaline levels which accompanies the process of gluconeogenesis (if not fully keto adapted) and lipolysis.
This „fight or flight „ mode is a stress response and can be measured by a decrease of the HRV indicating Sympathikus overstimulation. This is why carbs post workout can help athletes tremendously to mitigate the stress response and the compromised regeneration capacity. Optimal regeneration is the ultimate goal for every professional athlete.
