  • Hello everyone,
Thank you for clicking on this video, great to have you back, or welcome if you're new! Today, you're getting a storytime all about my current health update and why I'm in hospital. I wanted to share because I might be absent for a while, but also because health is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed to talk about. It's life and it happens!
    ~
    Update:
So on the morning of 19/01, randomly after being already awake for 1.5 hours, I started having immense pain again. The same, or maybe even worse than those in May. I'm never one for calling for help, but because I was in so much pain that I couldn't move, I phoned 111.
I had an emergency hospital appointment arranged as a result of the call and follow up call. Fast forward two hours later than the original time of the appointment and I'm seen! Just regular checks but I asked if I could get an ultrasound because so close to my surgery, I didn't want any risk of implications.
I was transferred to the ED of another hospital where they were "expecting me." All this time I had barely eaten and I was starting to waver. Fast forward a few hours, one catheter, one passing out session and my second pregnancy test of the day, I finally got to the gynae ward.
They said they wanted to keep me overnight to observe me and have an ultrasound in the morning. Until doctors saw me and confirmed I could eat, I still wasn't allowed to have anything. I finally had two slices of toast at 11:15pm.
My ultrasound was the next day, again, they didn't allow me to eat until 1pm and the conclusion was well, inconclusive. I was sent home the same day, but at least we know nothing bad happened! They think in the morning it tried to twist but failed. Hell of a journey to find that out though!

I hope you are recovering well. Surgery is hard on the body, be patient with yourself as you recuperate.

Poor you. I had to have a hysterectomy 9 years ago (at least I had 1 child!). I understand the scary major surgery thing. Do take it easy and don’t rush back to work. Have a phased return to as you will be tired easily. I hope your recovery isn’t to bad.

Thank you, I lost an ovary too yesterday, they couldn't avoid it. It's the recovery I'm scared about, so I'm just taking it easy x

My daughter was having terrible periods. She saw a gynecologist during covid. Had a covid test. Negative. Was operated not even a week later. A hysterectomy. Cut from side to side. Came home 2 days later. Also had to inject for 5 days. Never took any pain meds. Drove after 4 weeks and was back at work. Hope you get well soon.

It baffles me how a person can just get a hysterectomy within a week. Your daughter is so lucky. I complained to my family GP for years and finally saw a gyno in 2020 after being on a waiting list for 4 years. I had exploration surgery to find out what was wrong in 2021. That surgery was supposed to be 30 minutes but it ended up being 4.5 hours because they discovered I had severe endometriosis, adhesions, uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps and an ovarian cyst that ruptured during surgery. I was also diagnosed with adenomyosis and PCOS. They STILL refused to do a hysterectomy because I was 30 and haven’t had children. I was born disabled, have multiple disabilities and chronic health issues. I don’t think it would be right for me to have children even if I wanted them, but I don’t want kids! I am suffering for no reason and being treated like I am some human incubator. Last year I was diagnosed with cancer and during a whole body scan to check for cancer spread, they discovered 10+ tumours in my liver. Turns out the continuous use of the pill without breaks caused my liver issues. Now I cannot use any of the hormone methods, have become severely anaemic (losing half a litre of blood every period, twice a month) and have no other choice but to have a hysterectomy. Sometimes I bleed for up to 8 months non-stop. Due to my disabilities, the only exercise that I can do is hydrotherapy in the pool. Now I can’t even do that…. I am bleeding more often than I am not. I am finally putting my foot down and literally going to BEG for a hysterectomy. Sorry for the long rant, I have just been through a lot of unnecessary suffering just because I am a woman.

A week? That's insane, especially during COVID. Pleased to hear she got the care she needed though. How is she now?

I'm so sorry to hear your tough health journey 😞 I have no words of comfort as I can't imagine how awful your experience and continuous experience is, but I can offer you big hugs x
