    I think that’s a very fair assessment. I’ve recommended this shoe to a friend who was wary about the more extreme plates shoes. She loves them.

    I bought these because for the price (140€) I felt these would definitely fill the "racing day shoe" for an amateur runner like myself. Only did one run with them (5k) and I felt great, improved my PR by a whole minute. Of course at 24m 5k effort there's still a lot of room for improvement but I feel these will be helpful for quite some time :)

    The PhD from labratrundown tested version 1 and found it to be more efficient in terms of economy than many shoes except the AF, VF, SE elite but comparable to the Asics shoes and better than Adidas, New Balance etc. Interestingly Alex Filitii measured his efficiency with a Stryd pod w/ a bunch of shoes and version 2 was the best then Nike and the rest. The Puma may not feel the fastest but the benefits from the newer tech are def there.

    Great initial review Andy ; I have put over 200 miles in my pair, have run multple races in the shoe this year everything from The Manchester Marathon (over 20 minute pb) , down to local 10k's , multple PB's and while that is largly due to training the shoes have not hindered and that is what I suggest people take home about this shoe. As I am about to retire the shoe (keep for emergancy rainy day races) , Is that it is a dependable/durable race day shoe that will ensure your fitness is reflective in the run. It will not give you 4%, however it will take care of your muscles and provide a light stable platform for you to perform at your best. I have had one problem which is down to me I get a blister at the base of my left big toe anytime I take this more then 12 miles at sub 8 minute miles .. does not matter if I use talc or what socks I use.. (or tape) , its something about how I fall and toe off on my left (KT tape helps alot around the toe) , I had to mention it , but also hand on heart I believe it is unique to me. Next to the Takumi Sen 8/9 this IMO is the best price /performance shoe out at the moment for a non elite runner.

      This is much faster in my honest opinion… the plate and the extra stack make it a bit snappier and faster, but both do still feel quite low profile compared to some other shoes!

    Hmmm I only just bought DN2 ... I have struggled to feel any pop in other similar shoes like saucony speed range or pro or nova blast etc... I am a fore front striker but they all feel dead. I have brooks hyperon 1 and puma velocity nitro 2 which feel more lively than other plated shoes. Which is strange since my go to trainer is brooks ghost. Anyway the Puma DN2 is first shoe that seems to give a bounce/pop 😁 so seems promising and reminds me of much first real running trainer a green pair of hi-tech with pop from late 70s .... Well for at least couple runs till foam bounce Disappeared LOL

    I have this (v2) and (v1). V1 was lighter, more of a racing shoe. V2 has a more "confort" upper and outsole rubber is now PumaGrip vs Puma Grip Lite in v1. This can be a racer for some, especially if you are racing in rainy weather (great traction) but I agree, I am more inclined to use v2 as a fast trainer.

  • @runfrankfurt
    @runfrankfurt ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would not see this as a racing plated supershoe, but more as a solid tempo/speedsessions and longrun trainer. Similar to the regular Deviate Nitro 2. But if someone is looking for a more traditional feeling racing shoe, then this is definitely a good pick.

    • @reeltaiwan
      @reeltaiwan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use the regular nitro for speed/tempo/long runs. Do you think it's worth splitting the work between nitro and nitro elite? Or perhaps just replace the nitro with the elite as it ages out? (I imagine that I'd want to use a full-carbon plated shoe for the rare races I might do, but I can't see myself the more novel super shoes. And I imagine the elite would give me just a bit more of a pop than the regular nitro.)

    • @runfrankfurt
      @runfrankfurt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@reeltaiwan The Deviate Nitro Elite is more of a tempo shoe for me, I would not really use it for easy/recovery runs. For those the regular Deviate Nitro is better. But surely, you could do all of your training and racing in the Elite if you want.

  • @benhruns

  • @Trailrunner1978
    @Trailrunner1978 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The supertrainer Deviate Nitro 2 bottoms out very fast at longruns for me and outsole material is to hard for road for me, which makes it a very unforgiving ride. Have quit longruns 5-10 km before I normally would in it. If Deviate Nitro Elite is at all similar it is not for me.

    • @theghostofpcs2391
      @theghostofpcs2391 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I took it out for a run for the first time since ages, purely for the grip on wet roads. I really like it when going full out, and/or charging up hills, but it doesn't do slower pace well at all. It is indeed pretty unforgiving, and doing intervals I'll feel like I have a plank strapped to my feet on the recovery...

    • @i.p2088
      @i.p2088 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the Deviate Nitro 2 also. I don't bottom out. In the Deviate Nitro Elite 2 I feel the plate under the heel when running fast PLUS midsole is so soft that I bottom out I am a heel striker and this is the only shoe that gives me low back pain...

    I would like to ask you if can advise me about the size. I see that EU 41 is 26.5 length but at my Takumi sen 9 EU 42 is 26.5 so I am kind of confused about what the actual size to order.

    I have the original deviate nitro elite and the elite 2 they are a fantastic training shoe and generally pick them up on startfitness on the “cheap” £90-100 I wouldn’t race in them if it was a A or B race but I’ve done summer cross country in them!

    • @brokenfreddy7676
      @brokenfreddy7676 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't used V2 but V1 is a very comfortable shoe..unfortunately it doesn't have enough forefoot cushioning for me if I use it on blacktop or concrete..it is great as a dirt road or light trail shoe as well as a golf course/cross country racer..good traction and flexible enough let my feet feel the ground..

  • @bbb229
    @bbb229 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The Nitro Elite 2 is placed as a trainer not as a racer. But I was really interested in it as a beginner of race running and if it was a viable option to get into Carbon shoes as a amateur racingshoe.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is the deviate nitro 2 and the deviate nitro elite 2, these elite 2 are meant to be the racing version of the normal deviate nitro 2... and I would say these are definitely a great first carbon plated shoe to own, theyre fantastic!

  • @MartinKexel
    @MartinKexel 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice review! I think the same about puma. The brand is using a carbon plate, but it s not a shoe for a race. The deviate nitro (not elite) have a plate too, but the carbon plate does not works. Asics made simple shoes with carbon plate that really works for a race. The same in the top of list of adidas.

    • @davidmcquade4743

    I have the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2. Very comfortable for wide feet. However.. Being a heel striker, I mostly land on the heel area. Because the midsole is so soft I bottom out.. I feel the plate on landing 🙄🙄 It's the only shoe I get back pain from after the run.. Twice... I can only attribute it to my crash landing on the heels. Amazing you mentioned the Rocket X.. They did not work for me as well..
