Not sure how I never heard this till now but wow... this was always my favourite theme and I love how you build it into such an epic track from the melancholic start to a climax and even adding a new bridge section. So cool!

For once, a remix that feels like the person who made it understands the original material. Even while going hard, it still keeps its melancholic heart. Well done.
I have another interpretation of this Remix. It progresses into something more "hopeful" than the original, which is not quite the destiny of Schala (at least before Chrono Cross), but at the same time it makes us believe she might be alright in the end...

This Chrono Trigger remix is one of the best I've ever listen. Every month I listen the song and I can hear a 90th Japanese vibe. The structure is also really intense and we feel that the composer tried to surpass the original version. Really really good work

Even after almost 30 years, I feel that the Chrono Trigger soundtrack is the greatest video game soundtrack ever. This remix is seriously amazing and I pray that you continue down the rabbit hole and bring us more Chrono Trigger themed songs
It's up there amongst the very best for me. I think once you reach the pinnacle it's hard to rank them really, I kind of group what I think are the best as a sort of elite group.

It really is one of the best soundtracks. Schala's theme is actually a very good example of 'countermelody' in music. If you go and listen to the origial SNES version it's much more prominent there. It's amazing what they were able to do with the limitations of an 8-bit system. Such emotionally moving music.

The original was simple, repetative, but still good, but this one perfects it, IMO. shame nothing came since, wish it did, but nope, didn't, in any case, this channel earned my respect/love for this beauty imo.... I took ears btw, my ears are gushing about this track =P

Just have to add to what others are already saying... this is one of the best remixes of a video game song I have heard in my life. It brought actual tears to my eyes. It hit all the right parts with the right intensity and god... just thank you. You did Schala right.

I've never tried Chrono Trigger. But hearing this theme remix and the original gave me an impression that Schala is a complex character. Like the burden of the world is upon her, and she's powerless to carry it.
You must have "The Shining."
Unlike most remixes, this really captures the spirit of the original song.
Tears. Fuckin' gorgeous. Especially when the guitars kick in, popped some metal mix into it but kept it subtle enough to not remove the OGs identity. Bravo.
And so I've come back to the grave, awaiting some sign of his return. The melodies all fuse back together, reminding me of the good times we all had. Come back, Frozenith. Awaken.

It is just the greatest remix ever heard from this song, is sad as the original, but then grows to be more like a battle theme charged with all the nostalgia from the loss. SIMPLY AMAZING
Sounds like the theme to an army marching towards their final destination, to defend a home that no longer exists. Battling against the tides of fate and time only to be destroyed from within. Nice work man.
Should be the theme for One Way Heroics when you put it that way.

I cried for chrono (probably because I used all of my power tabs on him, not knowing id lose him)
For Schala? nah.
Until I heard this song 23 years later, I realized now how important her sacrifice was... it's so sad, Thank You.
I didn't cry for her at first as I always had the hope that I could go back in time to save her after everything was resolved. But when I embarked on the mission to rescue her and I couldn't... I can't put into words how it broke me.
But to get revenge I killed Lavos before he captured her... at least creating the hope that in some timeline she was free and well.

Omg the nostalgia has me in tears.. This is better than PERFECT and perfectly capture the equally sad and romantic feel the original had.. I can picture this in a Chrono Trigger movie!

Schala's Theme is a sad one. She foresaw the darkness that beckons from Lavos, and yet she was powerless to stop it, and we were unable to save her from Lavos's grasp, forever to live immortal as Lavos's Puppet, becoming one creating the Dream Devourer.
A sad ending to Schala's Story.
Until a boy whose cry she heard from the abyss beyond time mastered the 7th element and managed to destroy the Time Devourer in every reality simultaneously
This is why I hate the links to Chrono Cross. The story is so much better with the remaining uncertainty and mystery behind Schala.
I will never forgive the developers for not giving us the option to save her.
Heck, they could even put the requirements very high (for example have level 99 with all characters) or have to replay the game several times and I wouldn't even care.
But just giving us a no... was so cruel dude.

This remix is great because it shows the complexity of Schala and the role it plays not only in her world, but also in the entire human history as told in Chrono Trigger. She had unique powers, and since her power came from magic, we can say also that her knowledge was far beyond from the average, a true temple of knowledge in the mind of a person. And as we could see the sealed doors and boxes, her presence (in the seals and in her pendant, owned by Marle by the time we knew of it) was everywhere in the game but only near the end we could understand this. I think she was the true counterpart of Lavos, she represented the top evolution of a human spirit: kindness, beauty, nobility and magic power, in a world where Lavos, supposedly, decided how the different species should evolve. She was an instrument for her mother to reach Lavos, but the key for the time travelers (included her brother, Janus/Magus) to defeat him. Too bad this was not exploited until Chrono Cross, but even then this concept was not greatly explored. She just "died" and then fused with Lavos to form Dream Devourer and Time Devourer.
The power of Zeal is poured in this Masterpiece!!!

What's crazy to me is this is the last song he ever uploaded. IDK what happened to Frozenith but I hope he didn't give up on his craft because he is gifted as hell.

That's the whole point of the sequel
It actually made me made very angry. In early '95 when I very FIRST fought this thing. My team was level 35, and We fought. That termite hit like a truck, but I used very item, I had my techs worked out. Chorno was on all out offence, Marle was the healer with Lucca flipping between roles as needed. That fight was probably the hardest I ever went though. But I won. I beat the boss... and got the joke ending. Note I knew nothing of the game yet and thought this was the legit ending. I went back (with game) to the store and talked to the clerk (friend) and showed him what I found and he laughed at me. He told me I was supposed to lose. I like that they didn't force script the fight, but I did not like that ending. I did go back and eventually get the rest of the 17 endings. (there are 2 game overs and they are both endings :p )
Wipe your man tears, and play Chrono Cross. At the end of it you'll feel better I promise.

And it looks like your missing one of the 15 endings, most likely the Dream Team ending. Either beat the game during your VERY first run (not game +) by defeating Lavos when you first can fight it, or in a Game+ before you take Marle to Guardia castle.
I may be off on the timing of getting the Dream Team ending in a Game+ as I did it the hard way. :)

Nice remix music video Schala's Theme from Chrono Trigger
The thing I’ve always loved about Schalas theme is it’s stark cry of hope and pure serenity....especially when compared to her brother Janus (magus) theme.
To me, it shows how she was an anchor for him...left to his own devices, the darkness inside of him would eventually take over. She held him in reality and taught him some measure of hope and compassion.
Interesting that despite all the evil acts Janus did, ultimately he did many of them to confront Lavos and revenge his sister/find her if possible. This theme makes it transparent how much he loved his sister, and how she would sacrifice anything for him...and he for her. Unlike their mother zeal, who only would use them to her advantage.
Your remix version of this song is so motivational. It gets me very motivated when I work out to this.

Someone put Schala's theme over NDT talking to Larry King about death and it just made NDT's perspective incredibly moving and beautiful. We spend our lives consuming the fauna and flora of this planet, and when we die, our body returns to them. It's a beautiful way to feel like you'll continue to be a part of the natural world when you're gone.
