Instead of tape install some soft deerskin or felt to keep the bib from moving too much and providing a soft contact that will protect the paint. That tank looks great! H-D needs to just make this change on the 2022 models.

Man its great to see someone do the install on video, I found that the slim, fxdrs, and sport glide tanks fit via HD Forums but its nice to see how it looks on video. My biggest concern with this upgrade was that the tank is lightly longer than stock, I can see you dont have that gap between your seat which is fine for a stock seat but the Saddlemen Step-Up seat actually fills that space on the stock tank. Looks great! Not sure if it will work with my mustang seat as the seat/tank gap disappears with the bigger tank and mines is already gone with the aftermarket seat 🤔
Yeah I'm not too sure about that either. Best thing to do is to check with mustang to see if that seat also fits the softail slim. Only question is the tank gap as rhe street bob and slim have the same frame and rear fender.
Thanks man, you could do the exact same swap on the fat bob as the frames are the same 👍 onky thing to be mindful of is whether the fat bob seat would work with this tank.
Love the gas tank but was wondering if you knew whether or not you could also exchange the speedometer. I've been wondering about the tank exchange for awhile now. Really glad that it can be done. I think that's one of the first mods I'm gonna do when I get my street bob next year. Thanks for the video.
Admire your skills ,saving on labour cost, i also have a 2018 Fxbb, if I wanted this done should I wait till my warranty is up ,?I would need someone with your skill sets .
Its actually a pretty easy swap, the most difficult part was installing the new fuel pump but that wasn't too hard at all, you just need to take your time on inserting it. I still have a years warranty left and if my bike had a fault the dealership would need to determine that what I had done to the bike caused the issue. For example if my wheel bearings or belt drive failed they could not attribute that fault to me swapping the tank on my bike and would still complete those repairs. Harley however won't warranty something that I did to my bike if it causes damage and rightfully so. Hope that makes sense 👍
@@TheGingybeardMan Thanks mate for reply , haven’t had much opportunity this year due to C19 , now winter is just round the corner, roads will be gritted with salt soon.
Yes the flsl fuel pump has an added fuel pick up line and a different fuel level sender unit. If you were to use the stock one it would work however it wouldn't collect all the fuel and the range wouldn't be much different to the stock tank 👍
Thanks mate, I've seen people use a metal strip instead of a tank bib. The reason i went for a tank bib was to block off the gap at the bottom of the tank because it sticks out and looks unfinished without something filling the gap

I've seen kits but they only seem to use a thin crappy solo seat i want to go with whiplash or something comfortable. can believe frames that different can't use a stock fender off something else and just have to buy a wheel to fit 200mm tire
Yep it's a stupid expensive swap mate. I've been wanting to do it for ages but had to save my pennies up. I'll be going with a stretched rear fender so there is no point in me going with a larger wheel as it'll be mostly covered by the fender.
Yep I had to ditch the whiplash seat. This tank sits back a little further than the stock one. I'm now running the stock street until I can but a mustang wide tripper seat 👍
The guage reads off the previous tanks capacity. I believe it's programmed in the ECU as the softail slim fuel sensor doesn't read the longer range of the larger tank.
Fixes one of my biggest gripes with the street bob. Was looking at the old Dyna version since it has a 4.5 gallon tank. How does the extra weight and dimensions affect the ride?
The extra weight is noticeable with a full tank but doesn't affect handling drastically. If you have ever riden a softail slim the rider leg position is exactly the same as the tank is wider at the bottom than the stock tank.
I've been wanting to do this since day one! Looks great. You have the 2019 bob right? Wonder if that tank will work on the 2020 too. The center cluster is what's been holding me back. Great job🤘
@@TheGingybeardMan You got me really thinking about this for my Breakout 114! Does the computer adjust for the 5 gallon read out or do you need different pumps? I'd assume from whatever bike that tank came from?
@@QDawg556 I purchased the correct pump with the sender unit for the tank and computer/ECM won't adjust and read the correct mileage. The mileage is programed in the ECM so unless that can be flashed it won't read the correct fuel mileage.
Maybe a dumb question but I’ve learned that a dumb question is a question not asked so screw it: does the gauge cluster show the proper fuel range with the new tank? I assume yes as the new fuel pump would take care of that with the “updated” floater. Just checking...
Not a dumb question at all mate. The new fuel pump has a different fuel level sensor which reads the float height inside the tank. That said I've heard some blokes who have done this mod say the fuel reading on the gauge didn't change/show more fuel range. Then another fella stated his tank showed the correct range after a few rides of what he states was the bike calibrating itself to suit the new fuel level sensor. At this stage I have no idea if I will have to flash the ECM to suit the new tank and fuel level sensor to give the correct fuel range or whether it'll read the correct range. Hopefully I'll get some days off soon with good riding weather to test it out. I'll do an updated review vid in the future 👍

Thanks man, I much prefer the look of this tank 🤘
@@TheGingybeardMan honestly on video makes the bike almost look like slim looks great with your bars too 👍🏻 I’ve just ordered the 14” can’t wait
That is beautiful, and a genius upgrade. You’ve earned my subscription. Look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thanks mate, one of my favourite mods to date.
first time seeing this mod. I always thought the street bob needed the big tank, Looks great . I shudder to think how much $$ though.
You're right it's not cheap at all. Thankfully I got the tank for a reasonable price but the fuel pump to suit was close to $700.00
@@TheGingybeardMan ouch! I thought my tour pac cost a lot . looks really good.
I absolutely love this mod. What kind of bars are those? Perfect height and thickness.
I did a video on these bars, here's a link to the video. th-cam.com/video/AFl0o5d97-k/w-d-xo.html
Looks great 👍🇦🇺
Where ya from ?☺️
Great Job! You think the same tank conversion would work on a 2018 Breakout. The little tank sucks!
It sure would mate. All of the M8 softails have the exact same frames, its just the bolt on parts which are different ie, forks, wheels, fenders etc
@@TheGingybeardMan Thank you mate!! I look forward to your update video. I'd love to get on board with this modification knowing all the stars line up and know what to expect. Have a great riding weekend mate!
Nice! Sweet lookin' 🛵
Should have come with that tank and forwards as standard.
100% agree mate, would have saved me a small fortune 👍
