    2:05 What you could do
In this short video, we’re going to talk about the biggest indicator for prediabetes. In a prediabetic state, you have either hypoglycemia or insulin resistance that later turns into diabetes.
A big indicator that you may have this condition is not being satisfied after a meal.
In a cell that has insulin resistance, the fuel is blocked and can’t go into the cell. The cell is starving of fuel and certain nutrients. In a normal cell, the fuel can go in easily. When the cell is starving of fuel, it sends a signal to the pancreas telling it to produce more insulin.
Instead of consuming more food or something sweet, you may want to add more fat to your diet. Fat will not increase insulin by much. Adding more fat can help you feel more satisfied. Over time, if you’re not hungry and eating the wrong foods, you may be able to heal insulin resistance.

Lim Gey Leng I looked at the diet that is recommended for a diabetic person, and it is horrible. With the exception of the meat on the plate , everything turns to sugar in your blood stream. The diabetic diet is deadly, and I believe, it is designed to keep you diabetic so that you need insulin/medicine. The plate of food that I saw had meat, potatoes, corn, bread, milk, and a piece of fruit for desert. Wow! Every thing except the meat causes insuin/sugar to rise. This was my idea of a healthy meal, until finding Dr. Berg.

I was told I was pre diabetic in 2008 but I didn't believe it bc I wasn't eating much meat (NO pork ever) nor drinking sodas. So I just went on with my life. NOW I'm doing pretty strict keto and my glucose is btw 100-115 every am.
I'm told this could take one year to balance out or get lower than 90 so that I'm keto adapted. Thanks for this video, I watch all your videos as you tell us an amazing story about the body and how it functions. you're an amazing help with easy to grasp knowledge that you share.

I had been playing with keto all summer, then I got my bloodwork back that said I'm pre diabetic. Went full keto that day and haven't looked back... been satisfied after every meal since.
Best part is, unlike any other diet I've ever been on, one french fry or a single carb over the limit doesn't kill my diet! I've never felt so free in my life!

Exactly right. I had been eating badly for at least 10 years. What happened was what you just said. Last year my doctor told me that I was pre diabetic! Scared me so for a couple weeks I changed my diet and I got things in line, went back to the doctor and my insulin levels had dropped. All good right? Only problem was I went back to my bad habits, lots of carbs and junk food. Just a few weeks ago I went back for my check up and guess what? Yep, same old story all over again! Thanks to you I have now started my life change and I feel better, sleep better and we will see next week when I see the doc on Thursday, if I have been doing it right. I do seem to not need as much food as I once did. Also I am doing long fasts between meals and walking now. Just not near as hungry as before, with eating more veggies and more fats.

Dr Berg you have been such an inspiration, I really appreciate all the time you have dedicated to us with all your videos
I transitioned to a keto way of eating for this reason and many others. this video finally answers something that's been going on which I kept telling my mom I would eat and I'm always hungry craving something sweet I told her something has to change. Your videos, a book, and research really makes me feel keto is the way to go. I did got into ketosis on day 3 but my question. How long until you really start seeing the benefits of this type of diet like you said for the cell to heal itself. How long does that take? (I do plan on eating this way for a very long time) I already experienced loss of appetite the more energy a little weight loss i only started keto 5 days ago but I'm concerned more about the weight and numbers my last a1c put me to pre diabetes 5.7 which before 5.4 . I want to try to ward it off or reverse this or try get my A1c to come back down. I check it every 3 months if I can.

My hba1c was 10.8 and weight was 84kg in sept 2021, I lost 11 kg in 60 days by jogging and extreme diet change and the hba1c dropped to 7.0.
Then I went to a doctor he said to me you did good but it never heals he even gave me a sugar monitor as complimentary chapter closed I never visited any doctor after that.
It's June 2023 last week had hba1c 6.0 (I usually Check within 4-5 months and no reading has been more than 6.1)
    And fasting 135.
I am 100% sure that with Dr.bergs method of IF and no sugar less carbs diet I would never require medicines.
It's a big achievement for me as in india, as per recent lancet report 1out of 4 people are pre or diabetic.
I am really very thankful to him for giving exact/absolute treatment in a form of very simple thing - IF DIET.

Hey Dr Berg, a great video as always. Would appreciate it if you could include the Type of Diabetes you're referring to here, rather than just saying diabetes in general. Type 1 & 2 tend to be conflated a lot by a great majority of people as well as the media, and I don't think it helps when there are definite distinctions to be made between them. I have Type 1, and it didn't take 10 years for me to get it, as I think it was likely due to some virus combined with genetics, so I went from being perfectly healthy -> having Type 1 diabetes in the space of a few months, and although my pancreas did secrete small amounts of insulin for a while afterwards (known as the honeymoon period) this was not enough and I basically had to start injecting straight away. If you could distinguish which type you are talking about in future videos that would be great. Thanks again for the video.

Dr Berg, I'm learning so much from your videos. Thanks for helping us all out! My first endocrinologist was kind of shady. She did a bunch of tests and refused to send the results to my family doctor. Even after letter after letter and written releases had been sent. She did put me on thyroid which helped everything, but about a week later called me and told me because I had high dhea I had a condition on my adrenals so she prescribed me 2 years worth of dexamethasone tablets. Personally, I believe my high dhea was due to serious trauma I had experienced in my life. After contemplating this situation I really think she wanted to make me diabetic. I was on steroids for 6 months until my mom begged me to go off of them because I was so swollen. My family doctor was appalled she put me on steroids. Still dealing with the affects of the steroids, but up on my natural thyroid which is helping me recover. When my thyroid is where it needs to be, my body will feel satisfied after eating. It seems to balance my blood sugar perfectly. Your cells will also starve without enough thyroid hormone because your body cannot absorb nutrients.

Dr. Berg is 1000% right that you could be Pre Diabetic for a long time, especially if you do lots of cardio workout like I used to, and the tests shows your blood sugar is normal (because you had burnt them the day before), while I was becoming full diabetic Type 2 and they didn't catch it.

Dr. Berg, have you done a video about reactive hypoglycemia and waking up in the middle of the night needing to eat? If so, what is the video title? Would addressing the insulin resistance and adrenal fatigue help with this?

Thank you for your videos. You are such an inspiration. I have episodes of low blood sugar where I get really shakey, dizzy if I don't eat and I urinate A LOT. So much that at work I'm always making trips to the restroom.. I don't even think I drink THAT much to use the restroom so many times. Well, so I've had a fasting glucose blood testing done by my doctor and she says my glucose level is within normal range. But I have to get testing done to monitor my iron, thyroid and white count. My white count can get elevated. Prediabetes runs on my mom's side. I just wonder why I pee so much and have episodes of low blood sugar.

Very informative, thank you for these vids, I have a question, guess it is non trivial and varies from person to person.
The question would be on how much protein and carbs (any carbs better/worse than others) can an athlete eat, and still stay in ketosis? Do we all bump out of ketosis around the same 30-40g a day? Or are there variations?
Assuming in this case, that the athlete has two practices a day, including "heavy weight lifting" ie power lifts and endurance/speed training (possibly both).
    Any suggestions are welcome.

My A1C is 6.1 I was able to reduce it reducing my sugar intake and doing alot of cardio exercise. I tried drinking Turmeric with Apple Cider vinegar and it didn't reduce my Blood Sugar. Does drinking actually work? My doctor had told me not to eat fattening food or to try the Keto Diet. He recommended that I eat plant food. Carbohydrates turn into sugar which can cause insulin resistance.

Unfortunately fat makes insulin resistance worse.. I'm a type 1 diabetic and I've tried a low carbohydrate diet and high fat diet and has made me more insulin resistance.. I'm in now in the process of introducing carbs back and a low fat diet which is improve my insulin sensitivity

    I have a few questions:
    1. Is it likely to be very thin and young (30 years) and have diabetes even if a close family member doesn't?
    3. Can a diabetic or pre-diabetic person have all the symptoms except vaginal/urinal infections, dark patches and slow healing?
    4. Does diabetes explain symptoms like brain fog and inability to concentrate?
    5. What is the role of stress and cortisol in developing diabetes?

Dr. Berg, I have watched many of your videos, I have high cholesterol and try to keep it under control with diet. You have spoken, many times about fats, that they are ok to eat so can you please explain what fats will heal the body. I have taken myself off many of fats and don't eat meat, dairy, or processed oils. I do eat nuts and seeds, avocados and the almond milk I consume in small amounts on my oatmeal each morning. Can you give me an idea what fats you speak of. Thank you
