    As you guys talk about this I’m reminded of a quote from St Teresa of Avila, “Whoever has God lacks nothing; only God suffices.”
    I too have been guilty of idolatry. It distorts everything. But I learned and I know I am a better person when God is at the core of everything. Thank you both for your ongoing honesty and courage.
    You both inspire me to have attain a Catholic marriage and family. God bless 🌸

    So true! Thank you for picking up this topic. I have been divorced for 10 years and chose to love a single life. God has not stopped amazing me with what He has in store for me. I am not celebrating my divorce here but just sharing that God alone suffices!

    This is so easy for people like you to say who seem to have it all and God has blessed you tremendously. Marriage is not an idol but it's a huge blessing and couples don't do the work to make marriage amazing, but instead we're told "don't make it an idol"

    I've truly struggled with this as have remained single into my 50's . I always understood that vocations were God given and then when acted upon fulfil one but I didn't choose this so often am angry this is what God had planned for my life. A double edged sword but thankful he has blessed me with other single friends as we walk together in faith ❤️‍🔥

    #AskAscension
    Two questions, one, God alone fills the deepest desires of our hearts, but how do we grow in our faith to where we get to that point?
    Second, and I promise this is a question but I think a short story will give some needed context. I liked this girl and she liked me for like three years. As we got to know each other more we basically became infatuated with each other, but we are both Catholic, completely chaste, and we’re brought closer to God throughout the time knowing each other. From my point of view I had no doubts that we would get married, because how could something so good and holy fall apart? I was sure God directed me to her and vice versa because not only did we really like each other but we also brought each other closer to God, but now we are more or less breaking up. My question is, if God allows us to have free Will and we use that to pursue Him and choose good, why would He take good and moral things away from us?

    Everything you said it's true I think, BUT you said it as if it were something YOU DO, and it's not, it's a GRACE, and that's a GIFT, not something you "make" or "get". nowadays we Catholics try to do things, just say stuff all time like teaching but not living, telling others like "you can do this or that" and sometimes you just can't, because not everyone it's called to the same living and not everyone has the gift. In other words, just "perfect people" showing others how to live and putting themselves as mirrors or models.

    I understand the culture is misguided, but the culture makes it difficult to find a spouse. When the vocation is planted in your heart, it's hurtful. I think what they are saying is idealistic. God is enough for sure, but it's OK to feel those true longings. It's OK to dream, especially when they come from God. It's OK to grieve when your life longings may not have come to fruition. We're made to be with each other.
    I disagree with some of their message. It's very true about the marriage, which is not a solution to a problem, but there's more to the story.

    • @jenniferwinston7842
      @jenniferwinston7842 ปีที่แล้ว

      @&&&&& yes I hear you. It's good advice to seek a spouse who loves God deeply. With that said, our longings for our vocation are there for a reason. There's a void that is to be filled by following God's Will for us...God given emotions.
      Yes of course we should not use another human being. The opposite of love is use, it's not hate.
      I get the point of the video, but they took it a bit to far. A person is allowed to grieve the shortcomings of life, while being grateful for the hardships that can deepen our faith and bring us to heaven. We do long for things and grieve.
      In relationship with God we may feel frustrated as well. Even Theresa of Avila once said in prayer to God; " if this is how you treat your friends, I can't imagine how you treat your enemies." Let's be real here!

    • @Ezekiel336-16
      @Ezekiel336-16 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I didn't listen to the entire video, so maybe they covered this, but the truth of what they're saying is part of discipleship. We can't allow our love for anyone to come between our relationship with the Lord.
      So, in a dating, courting, or marital relationship the question is does the other person enhance or hinder that call? Do they lead us to sin, or do we lead them to it, or do we lead and walk with each other towards Christ and greater holiness with Him, each other, and others?
      I hope that helps, because we should be in love with Christ who resides within the other. Not the other that's apart from Christ, at least not in a unitive/marital sense.
      In Christ,
      Andrew

    I think people miss the big picture! When your spouse loves Jesus more than you…Jesus will show them how to love you more than you could have ever hoped for. When we are close to Jesus…our love for others is greater! I want my wife to love Jesus more than me and in so doing…she loves me more.

  • @christinebutler7630

    Marriage is often unhappy and may be utterly miserable in many cases. But it is a duty, an obligation for those of us not called to religious life. At what point should a faithful person settle for what will settle for them, in order to fulfill the duty to marry and produce children? Or enter religious life,.because if God has not led us to a marriage partner by a certain age, we need to go ahead and enter an order before we are too old to enter, and also too old to marry?

    • @christinacole7019
      @christinacole7019 ปีที่แล้ว

      The (celibate) single life is a viable option. It doesn't have to be marriage or religious life. You should never marry or enter the religious life because you feel like it is your duty/obligation to do so, and definitely, do not settle in a relationship! Ascension Presents did another video where Jackie talked about the dangers of settling. Also, you are never too old to get married. As for entering religious life, some orders do have maximum ages (such as 30 or 40), but other orders welcome late-in-life vocations.

    But I would have to disagree when a man loves a woman and a woman loves a man and a parent loves their children and the children loves their parents in turn you are loving God. Devoting yourself in serving others before yourself is what Jesus wants from us. And yes man and woman completes each other in marriage the two become one flesh.

  • @timmyj2366
    @timmyj2366 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sorry, this is complete and utter nonsense. It’s all predicated on the idea that chastity somehow brings you into this perfect relationship with God. Or that the Catholic view of sexual purity is going to lead you to enlightenment or spiritual bliss. All is absurd.
    Isolation is one of our biggest issues in todays world and belief in God won’t help you as God lives in the spiritual world and he made creation outside of Him and gave us free will. This means, we use the gifts He blessed us with to get our needs met.
    I would run from this type of Catholic delusional advice. It’s full of pure evil with some sprinkles of truth here and there to deceive the masses.
    The vast majority of souls on this planet need a partner to navigate the world with. The other half DOES complete you and helps fulfill your destiny. Which for most of us is raising a family. A small percentage of ppl can navigate this world alone, and I’d be willing to assume most of them eventually wish they had more human intimacy.
    Yes God is always present. But the metaphor that describes his presence is Him being the sun during the midnight hours. We Know he’s there, but separated by barriers. And in that moment, a candle can be burned, that candle is a friend. And God’s presence in your life is illuminated by that friend. Just at JP2 said, to meet another human is to meet God Himself.
    I’ve taught the Catholic faith, it’s been a corner stone of my life, but this sounds like the type of harmful advice that leads ppl down roads of despair, suppression of their humanity in the belief that “God is always there” type of garbage. There’s so much wrong with this message it’s tough to know where to start. It’s all done in good faith, but it’s rooted in lies.

      I think you have misinterpret this video. What I heard was, you can even turn your spouse into an idol and forget about God. And there are a few who love the celibate life and feel close to God. Not once did they say in the video, the whole world would be better if they were single and celibate. Hmmm, sounds like you have many anger issues. Just saying.

      @@Rich.- I think there are a lot of souls that are too emotionally immature to handle some anger or see it as a force for good too root out lies and evil. While I would agree that false idols are an issue, that’s not the main idea of the video. The main point is if you have God, then that’s enough. That’s false and absurd. Spiritual health doesn’t hinge on a belief in God, which is mainly an egotistical belief. Healthy spirituality hinges on community, seeing the divine in small and big ways, or having a loving relationship with yourself. As self love and acceptance are an essential component of spiritual health.
      Another main point is promoting celibacy as a path to spiritual purity. Also absurd. Celibacy is as delusional as a person with anorexia. It’s against our nature and forced celibacy leads to perversion as we know so clearly from the whole Catholic priest sexual scandals.
      There are some good points in the video, but the lies overshadow them. And ppl looking to grow their faith will not be successful believing lies like “you’re never alone.” A better take would be, loneliness is a sign of unmet human needs that can’t be solved by thinking you’re not alone bc God is there. He surely is. But as I referenced, he’s as present as the sun at midnight. Our loneliness is a sign of unmet needs. Many are so disconnected with themselves and their emotions to take the action necessary driven by their feelings. Faith grows in circles, in intimacy, in friendship. Neuroticism and ego grow in isolation. And we have a pandemic of isolation.
      Think twice before diagnosing everything as anger issues. God created anger. God gets angry when he sees evil as evident in the Bible. Anger isn’t always a bad thing or an issue. It can be a sign of love.

      @@timmyj2366 'Healthy spirituality hinges on community'- no that's false. We have so many desert fathers and the like who have isolated themselves to get closer to God. You love the world too much. And everyone is a whole being. It doesn't need 'another half' to complete it. Such desperate beliefs are leading to bad marriages and so many casual relationships and ultimately a broken culture. And no, forced celibacy was not a thing among celibate saints. They saw it as a privilege. There are women who have purposefully deformed themselves to avoid marriage when their families opposed their decision to join the convent: st Rose, St Alphonsa and the like. Detachment is truly freeing but you clearly haven't experienced it.
