👋Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my video! ☀I just wanted to clarify that the difficulty we're aiming for here is a hypothetical "hard mode", something Pokemon lacks but is a feature I would love to see in the mainline games in the future. 💬Feel free to comment your own team ideas for the Gym Leaders, there's no one right way to do this, so be as creative as you like!
@@Xtraaa444 yeah the hard mode easy mode stuff in black and white 2 was really messed up, aside from it being locked behind beating the game, I think they messed up the easy mode by lowering the levels but somehow keeping the stats the same. So you basically got Less exp but fought a Pokémon with identical stats on normal difficulty
It feels like when they were making X and Y, they looked at the first few gens, and were like, "Oh wait, we're marketing this towards young children" and then proceeded to make all the gyms a cakewalk
@@RoryTheFiend I agree, I think the difficulty is perfectly fine for a kids game, but it could use a harder mode for people who aren't kids playing, hopefully when X and Y remakes come out we can get a difficulty selection
And even then, it’s insulting to children’s intelligence. Think of the prior generations where rumors and hoaxes run amok and you have to figure out stuff with your own intuition, like obtaining the Regis and, oh you know, the ITEMS AND TYPE MATCH-UPS THAT GIVES THE GAME MORE DEPTH!
truth be told, they probably did that cuz they deliberated that children would rather play mobile games than pokemon in 2013 thats why they made it easier. guess they saw the decline.
Some has potential, like I state in the video grant actually has some fun ideas there. But for the most part yeah very much underdeveloped, without any grinding I shouldn't have my whole team 10 levels higher than Olympia's lead Pokémon that's just ridiculous
@@sussybaka-9796 I think it's mainly due to the experience share, my assumption is they were trying to scale the difficulty with and without the exp share but that's a bit of an impossible task.
The game was also built without the exp share in mind, unlike most games after that. I played Y without it on my third run, while it was still easy it definitely made it more even in the level department. My biggest problem with gen 6 gym's is the lack of pokemon and its missed opportunity to make mega's more involved.
They simply didn't account for how powerful it was and it's repercussions to the game flow, like if you give the player a path with the least resistance they would of course take it unless they get so bored that they turn it off because of how game breaking and over convenient it was.
Rotom was pretty strong so I wanted to give it a non useful item anyway lol, and also it can teach The player how air balloon works if they're unfamiliar with it for when that magneton comes out. Layers upon layers of reasons for me trying to justify air balloon rotom lool
I'm sure it wasn't GameFreak's intention to imply it, but Clemont having Grass Knot on his Heliolisk immediately made me think "Dang, Ramos is so easy that even Clemont went to get a Plant Badge."
You didn't set aside time to brag about it in the video (humble of you) but I like that Wulfric's choice of teammates is not just mechanically good but relevant to the region setting, story, and his personal tastes as a trainer: -Lapras (gift Lapras given after Korrina's gym, so must be common/traditional in Kalos) -Weavile (blue and red like Wulfric's theming) -Mamoswine (ride pokemon used to traverse deep snow in his area) -Avalugg & Mega Abomasnow (the ice dungeon in the previous town filled w/ them and featuring the latter) All this to say, your attention to detail didn't go unnoticed. Great vid!
I appreciate the kind words! I do my best to give pokemon that work mechanically and thematically, though I do sometimes forget and focus solely on the mechanical lol. For this video though, I spent more time than usual theorycrafting the Gym Leaders teams!
@@dilabetes yeah the apple puppy is better then a frail elderly weak 4x weak to ice mini wiyvern. Also the doggy ears are actually the eyes. Isn't that cute.
@@peshomighty5051 Sword and Shield gyms for me were fun and strong in the context I played the games in (I banned dynamax and healing items), so I imagine without those handicaps they're actually a bit weak (especially since I ended up avoiding trainers and dynamax dens) so if I do a fixing galar video then I'll definitely need to replay it casually and get the true scope of its difficulty. Well I had shield so Bea wins over Allister, but he is a good lad doing his best!
You're right! I changed the setup move from Calm Mind to Work Up for that very reason! Lucky the player has at least 3 turns before it gets to that point, so most people will be fine, but for the smaller group of players that don't knock it out in time, I am sorry for their loss lol I'd say that Sylveon set is more zany and silly than being a top tier set, but at the same time can't be slept on
@@leonardofarias8843 Solrock brings a pretty good addition to the team with some fighting type coverage. And it being able to learn fire moves can help take on grass types or set up screens.
Watching the XY Anime then looking at the games, the Gyms leaders are really quite powerful in the Anime, Ice Beam on Surskit, and Draco Meteor on Tyrunt is insane.
for grant, i think itd be more in line to give him an anorith instead of dwebble, as theyre basically the same pokemon thanks to similar stats and learnsets, but anorith is a fossil so it goes along with the other two im not sure if you can get anorith in XY tho
Yeah Anorith would be a good option, but unfortunately it's not in the X/Y games. here's the website, with the X and Y pokedex, I used to figure out what pokemon to put into each team: pokemondb.net/pokedex/game/x-y
Something I feel later gens fail to do is have TMs that are *unique* to their generation, and are incorporated into the gym leader's team. I think Hoenn did that the best - the only repeat TM is Thunderbolt, which you could easily replace it with Shock Wave. If there are no new or worthwhile moves of the gym's respective type introduced in said generation, maybe reconsider if that type should be used for a gym.
There's not a single new Rock type move introduced in Gen 6, so why have Grant? Same with Psychic type attacks with Olympia. Infestation works for Viola, but I also like making Sticky Web the reward TM. This mirrors Roark giving you a seemingly unuseful TM with Stealth Rock, but is INCREDIBLE in competitive. Power-Up Punch is perfect for Korrina, no notes. There are better options for Ramos - Grassy Terrain, Petal Blizzard, Spiky Shield (I wouldn't even mind if his ace was a Chesnaught to make it work). Clemont should give you Parabolic Charge. Dazzling Gleam is great for Valerie. Wulfric should give you Freeze Dry.
It would be a nice tough to see this be done more, a new gen with new gym leaders using moves you've never seen before really adds to the excitement of new experiences to see and figure out when playing through for the first time
Personally i think we should replace ledyba with a kakuna because out of all the bug megas i think mega beedril fits the best for vioalla so for the rematch she has a mega beedrill
That's an awesome idea! At least kakuna gets bug bite in this gen I think lol and mega beedrill is an awesome Pokémon, she'd be a real menace if she had one
@@rogue1248I've often seen people say that Bugsy is quite challenging, which I do agree with actually. But people seem to forget that he's literally hard-carried by that war criminal of a Scyther. He would be almost just as challenging without the cocoons
7:55 Nah, I hate this. Grant has a nice theme of having both fossils be his only team members at the same level. Which is probably one of the first we have seen in the whole franchise. I would definitely keep it that way, just buff them up. It would be also funny to see this be a double battle (we never get those early on for Gym Leaders). With the theme they picked for the Gym, I think it would also be justifiable to give one of them Air Balloon or maybe even both of them.
Yeah that's fair, keeping his team fossils only is nice to keep his theme consistent, and a fossil double battle would be really interesting! Icy Wind Amaura to hit both of the players pokemon and lower their speed, and then tyrunt can go for its bite or stomps to flinch
Now that I think about it, a double battle with Grant’s fossils would have been very nice. Amaura already does the speed setup to ensure Tyrunt does lots of damage. These speed strats already are the basics of doubles (which The Pokemon Company promote as the only official battling option). Why not go all the way?
i'd just change their moves, even with my overleved team that strong jaw boosted Tyrunt Biting moves dealt a number on me and kept getting me flinched.
Yeah me too, I only didn't for gym 1 for a little bit of mercy lol For surskit yeah mud slap would be nice, debuffing before the real threat comes out. For Vivillon I definitely considered gust but held back for those chespin players, draining kiss is quite interesting tho, not something I'd have really considered but would be a nice choice to make vivillon tougher!
It's such a breath of fresh air to see the Kalos leaders be powerful! Your sets were really well-done & creative, and amazing editing & humor as always :)
Thank you Goldy I really appreciate it, as you can maybe imagine these teams I took the most time to theorycraft because it was more fun with the increased variety of mechanics, so I'm glad you liked my teams! I feel my editing is a bit smoother and the presentation is clearer lately, feels like I'm making progress on those fronts, hoping I can keep it up!
Im only at the grass gym but i appricate the details youre putting in with offering in lore reasons for gogoat only knowing 3 moves, or the leader's garden being full of Floettes. Its very sweet! You got yourself a new subscriber
Thank you! Something I'm trying to do more is incorporate lore or sort of expectations based on their character: such as a gardener having floettes or a well watered and looked after gourgeist that because of how well its been treated is super sized. I don't do it all the time but comments like these make me glad when I do, thank you :)
Tbf when Unova did E4 only 4 they were actually a challenge. Bisharp and Kroookodile, Jellecent and Chandelure, Meinshou and Conkelder as well as Sygilith and the wierd jelly cell (cant remember its name) all built a really great offense/defense with all the rest filling something. Heck evej Grimsly's Liepard was some form of a threat for a route 2 dark type
Yeah agreed, gen 5 had a really good difficulty curve and the elite 4 did still feel tough, I'm not expecting much of a challenge from the kalos elite 4 when I stream the rest possibly next weekend
@@RoryTheFiend yeah they're good in theory, the two better starter type specialists in fire and water. Then you have Steel and Dragon as the other two specialists. Great in theory but their teams and moves are so bad outside of like one
Yeah fling has some interesting use cases, poison barb has a good balance of power and utility, a lot of the other status inflicting items though have really low base power like 30 or so
Kalos was my first Pokémon game. I recently replayed it and Jesus, it was a struggle to make it difficult. I had to play with level caps, no exp share, no battle items, no mega evolutions and no friendship buffs. But I still beat the whole game without losing once. The changes you made would absolutely help fix that. I will always love the games for their art style, music, locations and Pokémon. But their difficulty is unacceptable.
Agreed gen 6 has some lovely music a good art style and charming locations & Pokémon. But yeah I completely understand you first time I played X and Y I did no exp share, no megas, nuzlocke, it was tough since I was going in blind but I still won, so I knew exp share would just trivialise the game.
Dunno if this gets addressed, but only 3 trainers ever mega evolve within the main story. First is Korrina with the dual mega Lucarios, then Lysandre in the final battle with his Gyarados, and Diantha with her Gardevior. Thats my only real complaint about this gen, despite so much hype over megas, theres not many at all
Yeah it's kinda odd how under utilised the megas were for the NPCs, I guess Game Freak wanted to keep it as a super rare thing for only special trainers, but they should've at the very least made every elite 4 member use one as well
This was really good, though I would’ve changed a couple of megas: Ramos: Venasaur Clemont: Manectric Valerie: Mawile Olympia: Alakazam Wulfric: Abomasnow I would add Ramos having a mega since you should have one by this point, and I’d change Clemont’s to Manectric because I think the elite 4 should have megas too: Malva: Houndoom Wikstrom: Scizor Siebold: Blastoise Drasna: Ampharos (would be unique for a dragon specialist, and a showing of some megas changing type)
Thank you! Yeah Ramos having mega venusuar was something I considered but sided against due to it being a mega for a kanto starter that the player could also have at this point. I think manectric would work well for clemont, and you're right it frees up a dragon mega for drasna later should you want to go down that route. Thanks for the feedback!
@@RoryTheFiendwell it never stopped Flint from getting an infernape in DP so why not? also for Drasna I'd think having Altaria for a Mega slot would be great but then I realized Lisia has Altaria for a mega already so...
Ledyba Level 11 I can understand Reflect and Light Screen learned 3 levels early for TM slots, but Psybeam… that’s an Egg Move that’s a bit too powerful for the first Gym. Keep Comet Punch for that Multihit attack.
I wouldn't say it's too much considering no stab and base 40 special attack, but comet punch would be a good other attacking move with the multi hit and low max hp bypassing ledyba's awful attack stat
@@RoryTheFiend which is why I said “a bit”, but it’s 65 Base Power, which not a lot of mons even get at early levels. The only thing worse is flat damage moves like Sonicboom and Dragon Rage.
@@potatoman2580 yes and no. It does at least 20-30% damage against the level 10 Pokémon you have access to. Combine that with Confused status hacks and it’d be more annoying than you think.
@@RedDragonForce2 To be fair, it's not like Pokemon isn't above using those sorts of moves early on, iirc Colress uses sonic boom magnemite in his first battle. Also, pulled up a damage calculator and did some tests. It would hit decently hard, but not unreasonably so. Fletchling, already one of the best pokemon available for this fight, seems like it would pretty reliably kill it faster unless Ledyba gets a lucky confusion or crit, even if it takes the time to set up reflect turn one(and Fletchling will usually go first).
These alternate version of gym leader's team is truly spectacular. Aside from Rotom fan who should have had a ghost gem. I hope you do the Elite Four and Champion next.
Thank you I really appreciate that! Ghost gem would be nice but the only gem to make it to gen 6 is the normal gem, every other gem got removed Oh yeah elite 4 and champion are next, I'll probably stream the rest of the game next weekend and then get to work theorycrafting the new teams!
@@RoryTheFiend i don't hate all of them but some of them needed fixing that's all and just maybe get some research is all. As a Pokèmon fan I say all of that out of passion not hate
I really want to see you do this series without the region restriction. I think it would be so much cooler to see old gym leaders with modern options. 😄
You’ve done an incredible job with this video!! Giving the gym leaders mega starting from the fifth one is smart and I can see the game story changes so you get the mega Lucario after you have 4 badges
Thank you! I took a lot of time considering what each gym leader should have with the Pokemon available in Kalos. Yeah I wanted a lot more megas for the player to battle because they're very underused in the original games, and it will add so much more excitement to a player having to go against a mega pokemon for a gym leaders ace! My next video will upgrade the Kalos Elite 4 & Champion!
Nuzlocking X and Y makes them so much more rewarding. The first, second, fourth and seventh gyms are real challenges when you have limited resources, no exp share and a level cap, and restricting megas makes Team Flare legitimately scary. Def could do with a revamp overall though
@@RoryTheFiend i'm running it at the moment - team just got gutted by a dragon dance fraxure and some unlucky crits, but my (non-gift) Lapras/Vileplume/Garchomp core is going on strong
I always appreciate these attempts to improve the challenge of gyms while _also_ smoothing out the progression curve. I've never been fond of Drayano's approach of giving every gym leader a full team, as it feels very artificial, so this is nice to see.
I agree, my difficulty curve is meant to be similar to the regular game but tailored to experienced players that want a challenge that is usually absent in a casual playthrough. I would love if difficulty options became a permanent feature of Pokemon games, but since they aren't a thing, it's a hobby of mine to theorycraft hard modes myself!
@@RoryTheFiend If I may make a suggestion - you'd want to move the move reminder and deleter to Lumiose so that they become available at the same time the player starts facing megas and thus is up against their first really serious potential roadblock.
I love the ideas that you had for these guys. Can’t wait for the Elite Four with their brand new teams. Though, I’m thinking that Ramos could’ve had a Mega Venusaur on his team considering how he comes right after Mega Evolution master, Korrina. I’m thinking Grass Knot, Sludge Bomb, Earthquake and Petal Blizzard for it.
Thank you! I had a lot of fun theory crafting them, yeah I did consider giving Ramos a mega venusuar but personally didn't like the idea of giving one gym leader a mega kanto starter and no one else, especially since the player can have one for themselves. Maybe a bit arbitrary of a reason but just my thoughts on it
@@RoryTheFiend I understand. This is what’s pissing me off about Game Freak is is that they’re becoming too lazy when it comes with coming up with ideas for the teams for the trainers. Hell, most of the gym teams lacked better movesets and coverage along with them being too damn easy to defeat. Can’t wait to see what you gonna do with the Elite Four members. Hell, I can even see Malva with Mega Houndoom, Siebold with Mega Gyarados, Wikstrom with either Mega Scizor or Aggron and Drasna with Mega Garchomp.
Should look into PK3DS its difficult to set up but the editing aspect is very easy. I used it for an xy playthroug of my own and fixed the gym leaders and boss battles myself. If you actually are trying to make it a thing i could help quite a bit @RoryTheFiend
I wonder how differently people would see gen 6 if it got a Z version, because right now I feel people sort of forget about gen 6 compared to the other games
I enjoyed this video. In addition to fixing Kalos' Elite Four & Champion, I hope that you go over the gym rematches at the Battle Maison/Chateau(I forget which it was) found on an early route. In the post-game, if you've increased your rank at this place enough, you could rematch gym leaders and even the Champion. It would be a good opportunity to design post-game teams for the 8 gym leaders consisting of 6 team members, one of which being a Mega Evolution.
Thank you! Yeah remake the teams for a hypothetical hard mode if difficulty options existed. Which I think most people who have played Pokémon for years would enjoy making that their go to difficulty setting
For viola I actually think Joltik would be a better fit. It suits her gym better and would be much more useful against flechling that we all know is gonna be used by most players. For Grant I think dwebble is a nice addition but I would also add a Binacle to his team. His team is terribly weak to steel types which is a problem with most kalos gym leaders making onedge one of the most reliable Pokémon in the game.
I feel like ledyba just gives chespin more time to build up rollout and sweep everything else. I'd've given her a masquerain so intimidate could help with both its, and vivillons physical weakness.
I think katrina should symbolise a power spike in the game, especially considering the extremely good reward in mega lucario. Id have given her a 4th Pokémon focused on coverage. Maybe even have given her lucario but replaced the mega stone with the item that boosts steel type moves to power up the already decent STAB bullet punch.
A lot of really great changes, I think you did an amazing job! I do agree the Kalos Leaders are strange, if that leak from many years ago is true, Kalos had an entirely different theme and was very much rushed when Game Freak didn't like the idea and wanted it changed. IMO the evidence is there and it makes sense why these games feel so...unfinished.
Thanks I really appreciate it, it was a lot of fun theorycrafting these teams I took extra time with them so I'm glad people in general like my changes! also omg what leak I've not heard about it! o_o
Also the people in x and y most severely impacted by not having megas were wulfric and the elite four especially since the anime literally gave them megas and aside from drasna who in the anime got mega altaria when it would’ve been fitting if she got mega ampharos so that it would’ve made all the megas they gave to wulfric and the elite four were megas that existed in x and y with the exception of drasna’s altaria
It’s truly perplexing how pokemon mc’highest grossing franchise on earth refuses to figure out to use the primary game system they haven’t touched in years
Floette's a brilliant pick for Ramos! The Eviolite would make its effective base stats 79.5 for defence and 156 for special defence - great estimation. Grass type needs a buff imo :( Weird echo on "a lot with Grass types'" in the Gogoat section btw. That "top 3 most forgettable gym leaders" skit cracked me up, amazing. Yo nice Mega Ampharos animations! Valerie's cool, but no Whimsicott is a bit sad. It would decrease the Gen 6 representation, however, so it makes sense to not use it - surprised about the overlap with Ramos on Florges though. I was wondering - will the Assault Vest really help Avalugg? Turns out, maybe? It raises its base SpDef from 46 (below Ditto's 48) to 76 (same as Lanturn and Prinplup, just below Meloetta-Pirouette's 77 and Luxray's 79 and above Skeledirge's 75... which is also Servine's, Plusle's, Swablu's, Gengar's and Entei's). Maybe Froslass could work for giving Wulfric a counter for Fighting-types?
I appreciate that Belodie honestly going into this I was excited to see if I could utilize the eviolite for the middle gyms (personally I'm a big fan of my eviolite meinfoo set) I absolutely agree grass types need a buff, 5 weaknesses and what like 7 types resist them is just a bit much (especially for a starter type when the other 2 types are REALLY good). Yeah weird echo I've done my best with the audio lol but it's not my strong suit so expect imperfections until I level up my audio skills. Omg I'm glad you liked that top 3 most forgettable gym leaders bit, It's tough to think who would be just as if not more forgettable than ramos tho coz like, I don't remember them... but theyre out there... somewhere o_o No yeah I agree the overlap with floette and florgess was something on my mind, but Floette really fits ramos and Florgess really fits Valerie when you look into her interest in floral designs. Rip Whimsicott, I do like that Pokemon and it'd suit Valerie's team as well! Would totally be down for it if somebody else decided to give her one! So Avalugg has base 95 HP and base 76 sp Def, definitely not super tanky but nothing to scoff at. From my battles with that Avalugg (along with providing it a +4 level boost) It certainly is in the realm of possibility to survive a handful of strong special attacks, which is good enough for me considering if it survives it has 4 very powerful attacks to hit back with. With Froslass, I don't actually think it's in X/Y Pokemondb and Serebi didn't have it listed on the Kalos pokedex. If it existed though, would be a very useful addition as yeah fighting types are the biggest sore spot for Wulfric As always thanks for your comment Belodie! I appreciate the insight and kind words, hoping I can get the Elite 4 video out far quicker than it took for the Gym Leaders (will try and stream the rest of X and Y soon maybe next weekend)
That will be next! In fact I got excited and started typing the script for it today. Also I'll be streaming the Kalos elite 4 and Diantha battle maybe next weekend or the weekend after that so my next video shouldn't take too long :)
I was replaying Pokémon X recently and OMG THE BATTLES WERE SO EASY! I loved what you did with every gym leader, specially with Ramos Big Gourgeist and Clemont’s Rotom Fan holding an air balloon (that was genius, goes so perfectly with his character xD) Giving items to the gym’s Pokémon and letting them Mega evolve at gym 5 was so well thought too, good job at these changes I wish they were real, it would be such a fun challenge! (and PLEASE do a fixing the elite 4 of kalos video!) :)
Yeah aha I mean playing through X recently myself it was just so clear to me how underlevelled these bosses are if you actually use the exp share. Thank you I'm glad you liked my Ramos Gourgeist, and Clemont's Rotom Fan lol Yeah I agree, I might've considered giving ramos a mega if it wasn't venusuar as his only option (for some reason I try and avoid starters when I can), so starting from gym 5 it is then, at least that splits the gyms into the first half (no mega) and second half (megas) And yeah I'm working on the elite 4 video now should be out later this month! o_o
@@RoryTheFiend but really, I think you did a fantastic job at making it challenging but not too difficult, every choice had meaning. Also I get you, giving a starter to a gym leader just seems wrong, but Ramos deserves it. And happy to know the video is under development, I will be eagerly expecting it :D
I think it'd be more likely that someone tries to use a fighting move against Grant, so a Chople Berry would've made more sense here in my opinion for the Amaura
yeah that's true, the reason I gave him that berry was that his whole team is weak to steel and at the very least Dwebble is neutral to fighting attacks
i wouldve replaced Mega Alakazam with MEga Medicham, since Alakazam is already Sabrina's Ace, Medicham would do a great role in dealing heavy damage and providing coverage. Id replace Gallade with a Bulky Reuniclus. Heres the movesets if ya want em: Medicham @ Medichamite Ability: Pure Power - Fake Out - High Jump Kick - Ice Punch - Zen Headbutt Reuniclus @ Rocky Helmet Ability: Overcoat - Recover - Calm Mind - Acid Armor - Psyshock
For me I came up with a idea for Pokemon Z when I was in early highschool Viola Level 12 Surskit Level 12 Butterfree Level 14 Vivilion(Ice if you picked Chespin Electric it you picked Froakie Ground if you picked Fenekin) I made Vivilion type based off it's mant forms you can get like tundra or sandy to make it worth collecting rather than the thrid Butterfree clone. Since this is the 1st gym it's moves will be weak ones like mud slap Powder Snow Thundershock. Surskit is a counter to fite and can get off an infestation or set up rain dance to weaken fire type attacks. Butterfree slows your team down with stuff like Stun Spore or Poison powder I'm not a monster you won't have to deal with Sleep Powder on 1st gym on a tanky yet non ace Pokemon TM infestation Grant Level 19 Onix Level 20 Auora Level 20 Traynt(oran berry) Onix is meant to set up stealth rock and sandstorm it has sturdy so it can do either. Aurora has refigate and can hit hard. Since you challenge Grant a lot earlier the only counters you'll get are Steel pokemon and Chespin evolution so he gets fire fang on Trynt. TM Rock Tomb 3rd Gym Clemont Level 25 Emolga Level 25 Lanturn Level 27 Heliosk(sitrus berry) I introduce Clemont earlier to deal with level gap you just return to the city because you find from the other scientists who were imprisoned that tech Team Flare is using is made by Clenont. You later find out Team Flare has Bonnie held hostage in return Clemont has to make tech for them. TM Volt Switch Korrina Level 29 Mineffo Level 29 Machoke Level 31 Hawlucha Level 32 Pangro(Sitrus berry) You won't encounter much fairy pokemon yet but you do get a lot of physics and flying. Mineffo in this game goes for flinching and will switch with U turn if it thinks it can outspeed if you bring a physic type to Pangro or Machoke if you bring a flying type. Pangro has bullet punch Halwacha and Machoke have rock tomb. TM: Powerup Punch 5th Gym Flying I decided to replace Ramos type since I want to do something different and Kalos introduces a lot of potential for flying pokemon. Level 34 Talionflame Level 34 Jumpulff Level 35 Skarymory(Sitrus Berry) Level 37 Mega Pidegot A diverse flying type team that covers so many weaknesses. Talionflame is a beast and switches out with U tur before attacking again when your weakned and can set up tailwind for the others. Jumpluff hits hard with acrobatics and can stall with leech seed Giga Drain and Sleep powder. Skarymory deals with Rock and Ice and has mud slap for electric. TM: Aerial Ace 6th Gym Fairy Level 40 Mr Mime(Light Clay) Level 40 Azuramil Level 41 Sylevon(Sitrus berry) Level 43 Mega Mawile Mr Mime sets up Light Screen and reflect and is answer to poison pokemon. Normal Mawile is beast with swords dance imagine what a Mega would do it's a great way to deal with Posion and Steel. Mawile has Liquidation for Fire and Ground Pokemon that's a last resort she usually switch in to Azuramil(with Huge Power) which has Dig as well for Poison and Electric. Slveon is Umbreon but a physical attacker fairy it can stall with Toxic Recover and Dig TM is Play rough 7th Gym Olympia Level 44 Malmar(Muscle Band) Level 44 Slighyph Level 45 Slowking(Sitrus Berry) Level 47 Mega Alakazam Malmar with Contray ability and has Superpower. If it sees a bug type it'll swap into Slighpyh. Slowking has Flamethrower for Bug and Grass. Alakazam has Shadow Ball and Dazzling Gleam for Dark and Ghost Pokemon. Slighyph has Focus Blast for Rock Ice steel and Dark. Also besides Malmar all are special attackers with Calm mind. 8th Gym Wulfric Level 54 Mega Abomosnow Level 51 Frosslas(Lax esscence) Level 51 Lapars Level 52 Avvaulg(Sitrus berry) Level 50 Gilalie(Muscle Band) I was thinking about having him send out Mega Abomasnow first to catch player off guard and prevent set up as it's just too strong while it's snow warning can boost other pokemon like Frosslas with snow cloak and lax iscsnce which boosts eviasness and it has destiny bond. Lapars great counter to fire steel and rock it's just meant to use sing or thunder wave and weaken your team. Avvaulg is a tank with Earthquake and Rock Slide to deal with all Fire types and rock and Steel types. Gilalie is just there Wulfric will send it out to use stealth rock or Explosion or a shield for one of his more stronger Pokemon Anyway that's challenge mode. For easy mode I can do another
Thank you! I had a lot of fun theory crafting these teams I would love to see future games have difficulty options mainly a hard mode where all significant boss battles have had some sort of buff, there's a lot of untapped potential in them tbh
That's be a fun way to increase difficulty. Personally I'd like it if you could decide on difficulty options to enable or disable in the settings, such as battle mode being shift / set, and an idea like this to limit the Pokémon you can use in a gym battle
In regards to Viola's Vivillon 4:20 I think you must also remember that in Gen VI, Grass-types are made immune to spore/powder moves. Chespin would be immune to Stun Spore and can still KO Vivillon with Rollout. This might be mean for Chespin players, but maybe give Vivillon Gust so they have a risk if they want to use Rollout
You're right, not sure I remembered that but it'll be useful for the other starters. For gust that was a move I avoided simply because it hard counters chespin, but if someone wanted to be more evil than me then I'm all for it lol
Two things they should bring back that were introduced in X & Y -- 🔁 Inverse Battles, those flipped Super Effectiveness of all the types around and forces the player to re-think their strategy! That was so cool! 🔰 Moves that are two types at the same time! They toyed with it in X & Y, then just... threw it away in Gen 7? Are you kidding me?
I completely forgot inverse battles originated in x and y, isn't it only 1 NPC that battles you with that? And you're right, flying press is a very cool move, dual type moves could become at least a little more common, it adds a lot of unique interactions and type effectiveness.
I think a nice addidtion to your revamped Grant would be Dragon Tail on Tyrunt. Get more mileage out of that Stealth Rock chip, and give it a stab dragon move. I think at least one or two fairy types are available by that point, so there should still be some counterplay.
I've found every pokemon title to be easy once I was more familiar with how they work but now they're all a breeze if you play them the intended way, not an excuse for poor design choices of later titles but I suppose that would require them to stop throwing out ideas every generation and refining them, which is part of what I adore about this series, not necessarily trying to make gyms harder but at least more interesting, can definitely still bulldoze right through them when you know how to play but it'll at least be a little more engaging, sucker for learning about mechanics too so held items and abilities that synergize well has always been a treat :)
Yeah it feels like pokemon is scared of making the games have any real challenge (which is where my strong desire for difficulty options comes in), Definitely agree I want these teams to feel like a real challenge for the average player, and at least an engaging battle for a properly experienced player. Something in the realm of a realistic hard mode, and using fun held items / abilities / movesets that could broaden a players horizon and force them to change up how they tackle the battle. Thanks for your comment!
I think my biggest nitpick is how Ledyba knows 4 moves while Surskit and Vivillon only get 3. That's not really buffing them. Imo. I think giving Surskit Rain Dance could be good since it'll actually get some use out of Swift Swim. Otherwise it's just a useless Ability that does nothing. 😭 I'd personally change it to Rain Dance, Mud Shot, Bug Bite, and Bubble for Surskit while changing its nature to Timid. So it can get the speed boost from it + Swift Swim when Rain Dance is used. Mud Shot and Bug Bite would be effective counters towards at least two of the Starters (Chespin and Fennekin) with the added effects of Mud Shot lowering your speed as hers is increased and Bug Bite eating the berry your Pokémon is possibly holding. For Vivillon I'd change its moves to Poison Powder, Energy Ball, Flash, and Infestation. Energy Ball for coverage against Froakie and Flash to lower accuracy while being a reference to Viola being a photographer. Its Ability would still be Compound Eyes while also having a Timid nature for the speed increase.
I may have misinterpreted what you said, but you can turn Exp Share off in X/Y. It is a key item that can be switched off whenever you please. I believe it's only Sword/Shield and onward that it is permanently enabled.
This is true, XY introduced the teamwide version of the Exp Share(Where previously it was a held item that affected the holder), but it could still be disabled until gen 8.
Yeah you're right, my first playthrough of X and Y was without the exp share on (and it made it a much more challenging experience than my recent playthrough I'm doing to more accurately guage what the player's strength would be for each gym in a casual playthrough).
I still wish gen 8 allowed you to turn the experience share off. I think most people would leave it on but I found myself becoming overlevelled without trying or wanting to in those games, so turning the exp share off at those points would've been nice
i thinnk a king's rock seems like a better idea for hawlucha, prior to using fling, it gives allit's moves a flinch chanve, and with fling, it gets free unburden set-up on target's slower than it
18:10 When you asked who's worse, Erika or Ramos, I didn't even have to think. Erika's team slaughters Ramos's. All her Pokemon are fully evolved (minus tangela, which couldn't yet), have proper movesets (Razor Leaf crits, Jesus), and fit into the leveling curve nicely (You're either perfectly leveled to battle her, or storm the Rocket Hideout first for some grinding if you're underleveled). IMO Erika is easily the strongest Grass-type Gym Leader in the franchise, and she's my personal favorite Gym Leader to battle in Gen 1.
Thats interesting, I do think erika is a bit stronger, but her levels arent anything good either (level 24 tangela). But yeah auto crit razor leaf and wrap is no joke on a fully evolved victreebel
Glad you clarified it's a hypothetical hard mode, because I def thought through this "that wouldn't be great for the normal game" especially regarding giving the first gym leader Light Screen and Reflect. As well as introducing the berries that null supereffective moves with the first gym leader, it just wouldn't be the right time for it for a player who's still adjusting to the game. (Also, you wouldn't be able to get any yourself, so it would probably feel awfully cheap for the first gym leader rather than natural.) I also think the steel null berry for Amarua on the second gym leader would just come off as punishing the player for knowing the type chart for less intuitive types well enough to try. I think at least the first 2, probably 3 but to a lesser degree for the 3rd, gym leaders, at least in the regular game, should be about rewarding players for understanding the basics rather than being genuinely difficult. Like how Brock - and many other rock-type early leaders - is actually terrible, but he makes sure you know your matchups. Obviously this is all analysis assuming this is the regular game, which you stated wasn't your intent. On the other hand, when it comes to the phrasing of "fixing" it definitely reads to me as "improving for the regular game" rather than "creating a hard mode." I think you might also enjoy thinking about what a gym's role should be for its place in the game if you took into account typical game progression. Later gyms could still do silly and punishing things, but I think it might be fun to for you to consider what you're trying to teach the player with the earlier gyms rather than just maxing damage/survivability for the mons themselves.
Yeah it's something I always forget to properly clarify when writing the script but yeah this is a hypothetical hard mode option, I do agree early gyms being about understanding the basics and rewarding players for that is a good thing I'd say the steel halving berry for amaura is fine since it's 4x effective it may still just die anyway, but if it lives on 1hp, to me it's less of a punish and more of a surprising oh wow it actually lived, you take a bit extra damage then KO it next turn, nothing too major here (e.g. I absolutely avoided focus sash until gym 8) Yeah I do like brock in a learning the game sense, where no matter what starter you have you'll know some match ups are good / bad and they play a huge part in the battles. I'd argue in a hard mode a gyms role changes somewhat, they should always be a challenge and teach the player fundamentals. However in hard mode we're shifting the window from the basics to more advanced interactions, such as their abilities and held items (and hopefully provide a tough engaging battle for seasoned players). At least that's my opinion on things, other people may disagree and that's completely fine! This diverse opinion can only be a good thing to provide more variety and unique challenges
Seeing as Hawlucha is already an Ace Pokémon for Korrina, I’d replace it with a Talonflame. With it being a fire type can help put a stop to steel type Pokémon that can threaten Gardevoir. In addition, having it know Tailwind can be a blessing for others on Diantha’s team to attack first, like Gardevoir or Goodra.
Loved the teams especially giving Megas to the leaders. I always wanted that Corina used the Mega Lucario in the gym battle, also Mega Venusaur can be the new ace for Ramos. Thinking that you as the player can have megas after the third gym
It's an interesting idea for sure, and works with his theme. I think aero would outshine his two aces, which I wanted to keep all of their aces the same (except making them the 2nd best when megas were added from gym 5)
Thank you! I've tried to improve the visual quality of the Pokémon layouts, and I'm getting better at streamlining the editing process! Hope you enjoy the video when you watch!
The Exp All, gym leaders having low levels with 3 Pokemon with 3 moves, & the trainer having much stronger Pokemon make the Gen 6 gym leaders weak. The player without trading has access to 2 starters and a mega Lucario by the end of the 3rd gym. Also only 1 gym leader used a mega in their gym battle
It really annoyed me seeing so many pokemon from gym leaders have only 3 moves, even wulfric has that and he's gym 8 o_o And yeah mega lucario after gym 3 is actually wild, it completely tears through the already easy game
*Long comment warning* Yay I appeared in the comment stash! ❤ I strongly anticipated this video, and it sure delivered! Anyways, here are some observations: 1) A quick note about the player character's age (because of your joke about Viola): while their age is never explicitly stated, the Looker postgame plotline implies they're an adult. Emma notes that Mimi the Espurr doesn't trust adults, and sure enough, Mimi runs away from the player character and only warms up to them later. Note that Emma herself is 16 (as stated by a document you can read near the end of her plotline), so I doubt this could be brushed off as Mimi seeing teenagers as 'adults'. 2) I know you wanted to show that Korrina had good Pokémon and simply needed better moves, but part of me wishes she had used Lucario in her Gym fight. Especially since it would lessen her vulnerability to fairies that went more or less unaccounted for in the video (not that there are that many yet at that point). 3) Yes, exactly! You fight like four Mega Evolutions in the whole game (and one is practically a cutscene while another is postgame, so more like two). It's so underused. Giving it to leaders after you unlock it yourself is such an obvious call. I was gonna say that there should have been one for Ramos as well, but then I realized the only options would have been Abomasnow (who's already taken by Wulfric due to being the only ice option) and Venusaur (who, being a starter, would be awkward-- not that it hasn't been done before, see Gardenia's Turtwig, but still). 4) "I would tell you who the others are, but I forgot about them!" loooooool ❤ 5) I love how you removed Valerie's only competent Pokémon but still managed to make her what would be possibly the scariest leader. 6) Olympia is imo _the_ most forgettable leader in the whole series. The only reason I even remember her is that she's super nice in sending you right back to the entrance. The fact she comes right before the _absolute slog_ that is the Team Flare endgame doesn't help either. Is she by chance one of the "I forgot" leaders that topped Ramos in your book? Oh wait, you probably can't remember if she is, lol. 7) When you pointed out how good Wulfric's ace was, I almost pictured him cracking a certain pun about Avalugg. Let's just say it's a distant cousin to the iconic pun about Slugma. ❤ Anyways, outstanding work on this one for sure!
I was really hoping to see Clemont sporting a rain team with Heliolisk. Rain dance, dry skin, thunder, and surf would make for a pretty tough challenge, though I can understand not going for that since it's not his ace
Scarlet and Violet had much worse of an over level problem than Sword and Shield. For both, I had additional part members that could be swapped and I fought all the trainers I could find and caught all the new Pokemon I could. I never “struggled” with the Galar gyms, but in Paldea, I beat Tulip 3rd or 4th with no issues
My only 2 complaints would be lack of new Gen 6 Pokémon for some of the gyms (although I know some types didn’t really give you a lot of new Pokémon to use), and the same evolution line being used in 2 gyms in a row. Maybe a Trevenant or even Pangoro (as a gardening assistant) instead of Floette for Ramos. Other than that, great video!
Yeah that's fair, and yeah wasn't X/Y the games that added the least new pokemon? Pangoro as a gardening assistant sounds quite wholesome tbh, thanks for the feedback!
You are absolutely correct that it added the least amount of Pokémon, and as such, like I said, this are incredibly minor critiques, which just goes to show how high quality your video was. Personally, I would’ve like to see Binacle instead of Dwebble for Grant, Pangoro instead of Machoke or Mienfoo for Korrina, like I mentioned, you can replace Flabebé with a Trevenant for Ramos, or keep the Flabebé and have a Carbink instead of Florges for Valarie if you don’t want 2 ghost grass types in one gym, a Dedenne instead of Magneton or Rotom, and Malamar replacing one of Lunatone, Sigilyph, or (hopefully not) Gallade. I will restate once more, I absolutely loved your video, and you got a like and a subscriber, I just decided to voice 2 incredibly minor tweaks I would make, as your video is so good and so comprehensive, only minor differences in opinion are subject to scrutiny. Fabulous video!!
Thank you I really appreciate it! My johto one might seem a bit more novice in comparison since it was my first video on this sort of topic, and the video that blew up my channel from 300 subs to like 4k, but I hope you enjoyed it assuming u watched it by now lol
29:50 this alone guaranteed a like, don't know how many times I rewinded to hear this bit again 😂 The Bruno slander gained a sub, boy I didn't know his team was *that* baf
Thanks I appreciate it, yeah Mr. Mime is a proper foul creature, he can't decide if he's a person or a pokemon, PICK A SIDE! I think Bruno has to be the worst Elite 4 member of all time, like having Onix end game and not even giving it a good moveset what is that about?
I'm glad you think so! It's hard to tell sometimes and some people think I've overdone it or underdone it (sometimes there's no winning), but overall I'm pretty happy with the level increases and moveset / held item changes I've given.
Yeah I understand that, however for me I feel it'd be a bit much to deal with if you picked chespin, so round is about the same power as gust but will only hit neutrally.
I still want to see you fix the Gen 2 Kanto Gym Leaders.
@@rjd-kh8et If I put my next fixing video to a vote after the X and Y elite 4 then that one will definitely be on the list
Black and White (2? I think) has a hard mode (which is exclusive to Black for some reason??) and it’s only accessible after beating the game
Are you eventually going to do all regions?
It feels like when they were making X and Y, they looked at the first few gens, and were like, "Oh wait, we're marketing this towards young children" and then proceeded to make all the gyms a cakewalk
All I'm wishing for is a hard mode, I know the Devs are pushed for time a lot so difficulty settings aren't a priority but I hope one day we get them
@@RoryTheFiend I agree, I think the difficulty is perfectly fine for a kids game, but it could use a harder mode for people who aren't kids playing, hopefully when X and Y remakes come out we can get a difficulty selection
@@gameboy3d943yeah and the departure to BW2's difficulty settings was a low blow.
The Kalos gyms were so strange overall. This gen definitely needs a revamp the most
Some has potential, like I state in the video grant actually has some fun ideas there. But for the most part yeah very much underdeveloped, without any grinding I shouldn't have my whole team 10 levels higher than Olympia's lead Pokémon that's just ridiculous
They followed the same amount of mons as Gen V but had like 350+ mons to work with, so I never understood why the gym leaders/E4 had such small teams
I always found it weird how Korrina has such a huge focus on Lucario yet she doesn’t use hers in her gym battle.
I assume it's to avoid making her feel like Maylene 2.0?

Not the Flying + Levitate + Air Balloon Rotom 😭

I'm sure it wasn't GameFreak's intention to imply it, but Clemont having Grass Knot on his Heliolisk immediately made me think "Dang, Ramos is so easy that even Clemont went to get a Plant Badge."
You didn't set aside time to brag about it in the video (humble of you) but I like that Wulfric's choice of teammates is not just mechanically good but relevant to the region setting, story, and his personal tastes as a trainer:
-Lapras (gift Lapras given after Korrina's gym, so must be common/traditional in Kalos)
-Weavile (blue and red like Wulfric's theming)
-Mamoswine (ride pokemon used to traverse deep snow in his area)
-Avalugg & Mega Abomasnow (the ice dungeon in the previous town filled w/ them and featuring the latter)
All this to say, your attention to detail didn't go unnoticed. Great vid!
Whats ur view on the sword and shield gyms? Do you love Allister or Bea?
I appreciate the kind words! I do my best to give pokemon that work mechanically and thematically, though I do sometimes forget and focus solely on the mechanical lol.
For this video though, I spent more time than usual theorycrafting the Gym Leaders teams!
@@peshomighty5051 I like Bea more but I was a shield boy for Appletun so I've only ever interacted with Allister
Since they need to use Work Up in order to use Last Resort, that 327.6 base power move is boosted even further!
You're right! I changed the setup move from Calm Mind to Work Up for that very reason!
Lucky the player has at least 3 turns before it gets to that point, so most people will be fine, but for the smaller group of players that don't knock it out in time, I am sorry for their loss lol

im not sure if you can get anorith in XY tho
It would be a nice tough to see this be done more, a new gen with new gym leaders using moves you've never seen before really adds to the excitement of new experiences to see and figure out when playing through for the first time
Watson does give Shock Wave , Thunderbolt is the reward for clearing New Mauvile
Personally i think we should replace ledyba with a kakuna because out of all the bug megas i think mega beedril fits the best for vioalla so for the rematch she has a mega beedrill
That's an awesome idea! At least kakuna gets bug bite in this gen I think lol and mega beedrill is an awesome Pokémon, she'd be a real menace if she had one
i'd rather not. Kakuna is borderline useless in battle. never forget what happened when Bugsy used the same strategy.
@@rogue1248 i mean this time we can give it moves🤷♂️

Almost just as challenging? He would be HARDER without the cocoons. They're free setup.
Yeah, one of them should’ve been able to Megan Evolve as well
i'd just change their moves, even with my overleved team that strong jaw boosted Tyrunt Biting moves dealt a number on me and kept getting me flinched.
@@pn2294 i don't think the first match should have that, a rematch would probably have a Mega Aerodactyl or a Mega Aggron on Grant's team.
I hate to see incomplete movesets so I recommend giving surskit mudslap and Vivillon gust or draining kiss.
Yeah me too, I only didn't for gym 1 for a little bit of mercy lol
For surskit yeah mud slap would be nice, debuffing before the real threat comes out.

I feel my editing is a bit smoother and the presentation is clearer lately, feels like I'm making progress on those fronts, hoping I can keep it up!
i need to have that level of strength like them pulling a BW game in the XY anime.
Thats my only real complaint about this gen, despite so much hype over megas, theres not many at all
Yeah it's kinda odd how under utilised the megas were for the NPCs, I guess Game Freak wanted to keep it as a super rare thing for only special trainers, but they should've at the very least made every elite 4 member use one as well
This was really good, though I would’ve changed a couple of megas:
Ramos: Venasaur
Clemont: Manectric
Valerie: Mawile
Olympia: Alakazam
Wulfric: Abomasnow
I would add Ramos having a mega since you should have one by this point, and I’d change Clemont’s to Manectric because I think the elite 4 should have megas too:
Malva: Houndoom
Wikstrom: Scizor
Siebold: Blastoise
Drasna: Ampharos (would be unique for a dragon specialist, and a showing of some megas changing type)
I kinda wish Mega Altaria was introduced in x and y because Drasna use one in the anime i think it the perfect mega for her
Ledyba
Level 11
I can understand Reflect and Light Screen learned 3 levels early for TM slots, but Psybeam… that’s an Egg Move that’s a bit too powerful for the first Gym.
The only thing worse is flat damage moves like Sonicboom and Dragon Rage.
im too lazy to put it into a calculator or anything but psybeam on ledyba is still going to do absolutely nothing
Ghost gem would be nice but the only gem to make it to gen 6 is the normal gem, every other gem got removed
Oh yeah elite 4 and champion are next, I'll probably stream the rest of the game next weekend and then get to work theorycrafting the new teams!
@RoryTheFiend Awesome! Thanks for replying and liking my comment. I hope you seen Lumoise Trainer Zac new Pokémon team videos.
@@ZyroDemon can't please everyone 😢😢😢
@@RoryTheFiend i don't hate all of them but some of them needed fixing that's all and just maybe get some research is all. As a Pokèmon fan I say all of that out of passion not hate
@@RoryTheFiendI think Rotom should have gotten Hex to work with Burn.
@@RoryTheFiend looking forward to it!!
Nuzlocking X and Y makes them so much more rewarding. The first, second, fourth and seventh gyms are real challenges when you have limited resources, no exp share and a level cap, and restricting megas makes Team Flare legitimately scary. Def could do with a revamp overall though
my first playthrough of x and y was a nuzlocke with no megas or exp share. I struggled but beat the game with a boldore, sandslash, and dedenne
@@Will-jq2xk But remember when Galar gym leaders got good pokemon with good movesets
We need someone to make a rom hack with all of these teams! Great video, thanks Rory!
Thank you! Yeah I'm not sure how easy it is to modify gen 6 stuff but I'd love to see it become a real thing people can play
Should look into PK3DS its difficult to set up but the editing aspect is very easy. I used it for an xy playthroug of my own and fixed the gym leaders and boss battles myself. If you actually are trying to make it a thing i could help quite a bit @RoryTheFiend
This generation needed a third version badly. Pokémon Z should have been the final one in my opinion. Zygarde would have had a much better treatment.
It was pretty fun! You stated that you made the teams for a Hard mode run so all of this seems cool.
Everyone really decided to predict gen 6 games 2024 huh😂
We just had a hunch (I didn't, I got lucky and now I get an unexpected boost in views o_o)
I mean we got on
one announced so, we weren’t wrong
I mean we got on
one announced so, we weren’t wrong
It’s truly perplexing how pokemon mc’highest grossing franchise on earth refuses to figure out to use the primary game system they haven’t touched in years
These are some of the kind of videos i enjoy watching the most
More of these kinds of videos on their way (next up on my to do list: the Kalos Elite 4!)
Floette's a brilliant pick for Ramos! The Eviolite would make its effective base stats 79.5 for defence and 156 for special defence - great estimation.
Grass type needs a buff imo :(
Weird echo on "a lot with Grass types'" in the Gogoat section btw.
I appreciate that Belodie honestly going into this I was excited to see if I could utilize the eviolite for the middle gyms (personally I'm a big fan of my eviolite meinfoo set)
I absolutely agree grass types need a buff, 5 weaknesses and what like 7 types resist them is just a bit much (especially for a starter type when the other 2 types are REALLY good).
Yeah weird echo I've done my best with the audio lol but it's not my strong suit so expect imperfections until I level up my audio skills.
Omg I'm glad you liked that top 3 most forgettable gym leaders bit, It's tough to think who would be just as if not more forgettable than ramos tho coz like, I don't remember them... but theyre out there... somewhere o_o
No yeah I agree the overlap with floette and florgess was something on my mind, but Floette really fits ramos and Florgess really fits Valerie when you look into her interest in floral designs.
If it existed though, would be a very useful addition as yeah fighting types are the biggest sore spot for Wulfric
As always thanks for your comment Belodie! I appreciate the insight and kind words, hoping I can get the Elite 4 video out far quicker than it took for the Gym Leaders (will try and stream the rest of X and Y soon maybe next weekend)
fixes the elite team of kalos and Diantha
That will be next! In fact I got excited and started typing the script for it today.
Also I'll be streaming the Kalos elite 4 and Diantha battle maybe next weekend or the weekend after that
so my next video shouldn't take too long :)
@@RoryTheFiend would you also be in to fixing the rivals of XY, they seem really weak overall.
I was replaying Pokémon X recently and OMG THE BATTLES WERE SO EASY! I loved what you did with every gym leader, specially with Ramos Big Gourgeist and Clemont’s Rotom Fan holding an air balloon (that was genius, goes so perfectly with his character xD)
Giving items to the gym’s Pokémon and letting them Mega evolve at gym 5 was so well thought too, good job at these changes I wish they were real, it would be such a fun challenge! (and PLEASE do a fixing the elite 4 of kalos video!) :)
Wulfric’s Mamoswine would survive a +1 close combat from my Mega Lucario?
Yeah aha I mean playing through X recently myself it was just so clear to me how underlevelled these bosses are if you actually use the exp share.
Thank you I'm glad you liked my Ramos Gourgeist, and Clemont's Rotom Fan lol
Yeah I agree, I might've considered giving ramos a mega if it wasn't venusuar as his only option (for some reason I try and avoid starters when I can), so starting from gym 5 it is then, at least that splits the gyms into the first half (no mega) and second half (megas)
And yeah I'm working on the elite 4 video now should be out later this month! o_o
I doubt any ice type I could give Wulfric would live that attack
Solid improvements there! I would give Wulfric’s Mega Abomasnow Blizzard instead of Ice Beam
Yeah that's fair, I only didn't since I wanted to represent his gym tm a bit more, but otherwise I'd have gone for blizzard as well
i wouldve replaced Mega Alakazam with MEga Medicham, since Alakazam is already Sabrina's Ace, Medicham would do a great role in dealing heavy damage and providing coverage. Id replace Gallade with a Bulky Reuniclus. Heres the movesets if ya want em:
Medicham @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
- Fake Out
- High Jump Kick
- Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt
Reuniclus @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Overcoat
- Recover
- Calm Mind
- Acid Armor
- Psyshock
I feel like Clemont should have a Manectric rather than Ampharos as his Mega considering Ampharos would be Drasna’s Ace.
For me I came up with a idea for Pokemon Z when I was in early highschool
Viola
Level 12 Surskit Level 12 Butterfree Level 14 Vivilion(Ice if you picked Chespin Electric it you picked Froakie Ground if you picked Fenekin)
I made Vivilion type based off it's mant forms you can get like tundra or sandy to make it worth collecting rather than the thrid Butterfree clone. Since this is the 1st gym it's moves will be weak ones like mud slap Powder Snow Thundershock. Surskit is a counter to fite and can get off an infestation or set up rain dance to weaken fire type attacks. Butterfree slows your team down with stuff like Stun Spore or Poison powder I'm not a monster you won't have to deal with Sleep Powder on 1st gym on a tanky yet non ace Pokemon
TM infestation
Grant
Level 19 Onix Level 20 Auora Level 20 Traynt(oran berry)
Onix is meant to set up stealth rock and sandstorm it has sturdy so it can do either. Aurora has refigate and can hit hard. Since you challenge Grant a lot earlier the only counters you'll get are Steel pokemon and Chespin evolution so he gets fire fang on Trynt.
TM Rock Tomb
3rd Gym
Clemont
Level 25 Emolga Level 25 Lanturn Level 27 Heliosk(sitrus berry)
I introduce Clemont earlier to deal with level gap you just return to the city because you find from the other scientists who were imprisoned that tech Team Flare is using is made by Clenont. You later find out Team Flare has Bonnie held hostage in return Clemont has to make tech for them.
TM Volt Switch
Korrina
Level 29 Mineffo Level 29 Machoke Level 31 Hawlucha Level 32 Pangro(Sitrus berry)
You won't encounter much fairy pokemon yet but you do get a lot of physics and flying. Mineffo in this game goes for flinching and will switch with U turn if it thinks it can outspeed if you bring a physic type to Pangro or Machoke if you bring a flying type. Pangro has bullet punch Halwacha and Machoke have rock tomb.
TM: Powerup Punch
5th Gym Flying
I decided to replace Ramos type since I want to do something different and Kalos introduces a lot of potential for flying pokemon.
Level 34 Talionflame Level 34 Jumpulff Level 35 Skarymory(Sitrus Berry) Level 37 Mega Pidegot
A diverse flying type team that covers so many weaknesses. Talionflame is a beast and switches out with U tur
before attacking again when your weakned and can set up tailwind for the others. Jumpluff hits hard with acrobatics and can stall with leech seed Giga Drain and Sleep powder. Skarymory deals with Rock and Ice and has mud slap for electric.
TM: Aerial Ace
6th Gym Fairy
Level 40 Mr Mime(Light Clay) Level 40 Azuramil Level 41 Sylevon(Sitrus berry) Level 43 Mega Mawile
Mr Mime sets up Light Screen and reflect and is answer to poison pokemon. Slveon is Umbreon but a physical attacker fairy it can stall with Toxic Recover and Dig
TM is Play rough
7th Gym Olympia
Level 44 Malmar(Muscle Band) Level 44 Slighyph Level 45 Slowking(Sitrus Berry) Level 47 Mega Alakazam
Malmar with Contray ability and has Superpower.
8th Gym Wulfric
Level 54 Mega Abomosnow Level 51 Frosslas(Lax esscence) Level 51 Lapars Level 52 Avvaulg(Sitrus berry) Level 50 Gilalie(Muscle Band)
I was thinking about having him send out Mega Abomasnow first to catch player off guard and prevent set up as it's just too strong while it's snow warning can boost other pokemon like Frosslas with snow cloak and lax iscsnce which boosts eviasness and it has destiny bond. Lapars great counter to fire steel and rock it's just meant to use sing or thunder wave and weaken your team. Avvaulg is a tank with Earthquake and Rock Slide to deal with all Fire types and rock and Steel types. Gilalie is just there Wulfric will send it out to use stealth rock or Explosion or a shield for one of his more stronger Pokemon
Anyway that's challenge mode.
For easy mode I can do another
Wish they used your teams u put together it would put so much more challenge in the game… Love the videos keep it up
Thank you! I had a lot of fun theory crafting these teams
I would love to see future games have difficulty options mainly a hard mode where all significant boss battles have had some sort of buff, there's a lot of untapped potential in them tbh
Sylveon casually having god’s tablet that enables it to change type
Sometimes I just want to have a bit of banter with those sets lol
"There isn't a way for the player to deal with Stealth Rocks from Grant's Dwebble."
People who picked Squirtle: haha rapid spin go whoooooooooosh
29:42 Soooo about Valerie. The original plot of X and Y involved aliens, and she was one
33:32 also work up is required to be used for last resort so multiply that by 1.5
suddenly sylveon will be a very scary physical attacker o_o
@@RoryTheFiendit becomes 489.9 power
Honestly i think Grant having four pokemon would've been okay. He is just the second gym leader, but he is an extremely late second gym leader.
I could see him having 4 pokemon and I would not complain if he did
Just saying: Water Sport and Mud Sport effects wear off if the Pokémon switches or faints, so they are useless except in doubles.
Don't worry they changed how water sport worked in gen 6 so it lasts for 5 turns even if the Pokemon switches or faints
Another thing that you could do is limit the player’s number of pokemon to what the gym leader has so it gets a bit more challenging.
That's be a fun way to increase difficulty. Personally I'd like it if you could decide on difficulty options to enable or disable in the settings, such as battle mode being shift / set, and an idea like this to limit the Pokémon you can use in a gym battle
In regards to Viola's Vivillon 4:20
I think you must also remember that in Gen VI, Grass-types are made immune to spore/powder moves.
Two things they should bring back that were introduced in X & Y --
🔁 Inverse Battles, those flipped Super Effectiveness of all the types around and forces the player to re-think their strategy!
"I'd name the other two, but I've forgotten who they are"
#1 Janine from Pokemon Gold and Silver, #2 Fantina from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
Who?
I would give Tyrunt dragon tail. It would pair nicely with stealth rock and made the gym annoying and challenging
I think most people would leave it on but I found myself becoming overlevelled without trying or wanting to in those games, so turning the exp share off at those points would've been nice
i thinnk a king's rock seems like a better idea for hawlucha, prior to using fling, it gives allit's moves a flinch chanve, and with fling, it gets free unburden set-up on target's slower than it
22:52 had me cracking up, amazing stuff as always ❤
A 2nd comment about this joke I made, truly I feel vindicated in not cutting it out in the editing process! Thanks big dog hope you're doing well
18:10 When you asked who's worse, Erika or Ramos, I didn't even have to think.
Yeah it's something I always forget to properly clarify when writing the script but yeah this is a hypothetical hard mode option, I do agree early gyms being about understanding the basics and rewarding players for that is a good thing
I'd say the steel halving berry for amaura is fine since it's 4x effective it may still just die anyway, but if it lives on 1hp, to me it's less of a punish and more of a surprising oh wow it actually lived, you take a bit extra damage then KO it next turn, nothing too major here (e.g. I absolutely avoided focus sash until gym 8)
Yeah I do like brock in a learning the game sense, where no matter what starter you have you'll know some match ups are good / bad and they play a huge part in the battles.
Oh, wow, Viola's Gym DOES have a floor way down there. I never noticed it.
Aha yeah I somehow missed it as well, while editing I was thinking OH NO I MISSED IT!
I think gym leaders should have mega from 4th gym and onwards
Like the use of supereffective damage reducing berries similar to how BDSP & BBL Elite4 have them.
Yeah it really helps out those teams that have some matchups they struggle to deal with even with an improved team and movesets
1 key thing to remember, nearly 90% of first gym leader's Pokèmon don't have a full move pool only like 2 or 3 moves at max
Man I really wish Vanilluxe had Snow Warning in this Gen. It would be great for Wulfric to lead with one Snow Warning mon and have another as his ace.
If it got Snow Warning, immediate lead slot pokemon. I genuinely like Vanilluxe so I'm glad it got some love in the next gen at least
When I saw the Fan Rotom in the thumbnail, I knew you were gonna go total meme with it.
Loved the teams especially giving Megas to the leaders. I always wanted that Corina used the Mega Lucario in the gym battle, also Mega Venusaur can be the new ace for Ramos. Thinking that you as the player can have megas after the third gym
Yeah megas were just so under represented in X and Y, I did consider a Mega for Ramos but decided against it, though it's an idea I can get behind!
34:00 You missed the fact that Sylveon will have an attack boost making it even stronger
You're right, It'd be fun to see if someone got hit by last resort and be blown away at how much damage it would do
How about instead of Dwebble, you instead give him an ace Aerodactyl ? That way Grant would have all 3 avaible fossil pokemon in X and Y
It's an interesting idea for sure, and works with his theme. I think aero would outshine his two aces, which I wanted to keep all of their aces the same (except making them the 2nd best when megas were added from gym 5)
You're getting a lot better at this! I can't watch it now, but I'll comment more on it later.
Thank you! I've tried to improve the visual quality of the Pokémon layouts, and I'm getting better at streamlining the editing process!
Hope you enjoy the video when you watch!
@@RoryTheFiend from what I've seen, I'd say it was a success!
Personally, Clement should have a Luxray as his last pokemon. It’s his ace in the anime, and he dose use it for that purpose if I recall correctly.
I would maybe consider that if Luxray was actually in the Kalos pokedex, but it isnt unfortunately
It really annoyed me seeing so many pokemon from gym leaders have only 3 moves, even wulfric has that and he's gym 8 o_o
And yeah mega lucario after gym 3 is actually wild, it completely tears through the already easy game
What site did you use to make the Pokemon teams I tried bulbpieda but I couldn't get the right images
Dunno if you reslized it after edtiing, but Wulfric's Cryogonal having flash Cannon was for rock type coverage.
Rotom-Fan Transcends the Ground-type immunity!
The hardest challenge for any player: faint rotom-fan with a ground type attack!
*Long comment warning*
Yay I appeared in the comment stash! ❤
I strongly anticipated this video, and it sure delivered! Anyways, here are some observations:
1) A quick note about the player character's age (because of your joke about Viola): while their age is never explicitly stated, the Looker postgame plotline implies they're an adult.
4) "I would tell you who the others are, but I forgot about them!" loooooool ❤
5) I love how you removed Valerie's only competent Pokémon but still managed to make her what would be possibly the scariest leader.
Anyways, outstanding work on this one for sure!
I was really hoping to see Clemont sporting a rain team with Heliolisk. Rain dance, dry skin, thunder, and surf would make for a pretty tough challenge, though I can understand not going for that since it's not his ace
I did consider it, if I did go for that strategy I'd also give him a Lanturn with Thunder & Surf for sure
Rotor fan holding an air balloon is just a triple redundant system that still gets cancelled with just one smack down
Scarlet and Violet had much worse of an over level problem than Sword and Shield.
This was fun to watch, I'm surprised with wilfric you didn't mention that you chose abomasnow as the mega because its the one he used in the anime.
Thank you im glad you enjoyed it!
Well with Wulfric the only ice mega pokemon in X and Y is abomasnow so no matter what it had to be that
this was some professional gourmet shit man
you deserve way more subs
gonna watch the johto video next
Thank you I really appreciate it! My johto one might seem a bit more novice in comparison since it was my first video on this sort of topic, and the video that blew up my channel from 300 subs to like 4k, but I hope you enjoyed it assuming u watched it by now lol
@@RoryTheFiend watched the johto vid and it also slaps, keep it up my g I'mma watch all your vids when they drop from now 🙏
29:50 this alone guaranteed a like, don't know how many times I rewinded to hear this bit again 😂
The Bruno slander gained a sub, boy I didn't know his team was *that* baf
Thanks I appreciate it, yeah Mr. Mime is a proper foul creature, he can't decide if he's a person or a pokemon, PICK A SIDE!
I think Bruno has to be the worst Elite 4 member of all time, like having Onix end game and not even giving it a good moveset what is that about?
I would prefer they have an ace from Kalos but if they get a mega I will accept it
your teams for them sound way more fun! so i dont think you're overdoing it at all c:
I'm glad you think so! It's hard to tell sometimes and some people think I've overdone it or underdone it (sometimes there's no winning), but overall I'm pretty happy with the level increases and moveset / held item changes I've given.
I think Viola's Vivillon should know Gust for Flying-type STAB.
Yeah I understand that, however for me I feel it'd be a bit much to deal with if you picked chespin, so round is about the same power as gust but will only hit neutrally.
Can't wait to watch this later!
Hope you enjoy it belodie!
If Tinkaton can be part steel for holding a hammer, then Floette can be part grass for holding a flower
Why did so many gym leaders have only three moves? Including the Elite Four? It baffles me to this day.
