Fixing Kalos' Elite 4

- In today's video we take a look at Pokemon X and Y's Elite 4! Many people have requested these games for my next "fixing" video and I can see why.
A lot of missed potential here as you'll soon see, for example: Champion Diantha has pokemon with LESS IVs than all of the Elite 4 members, it's really baffling.
So sit down and relax as we go through their teams one by one, pointing out the good and the bad, and theorycrafting how to make them a challenge (difficulty scaled to a hypothetical hard mode if that was a thing that existed in pokemon games).

👋Hey everyone Im typing this from a convention hall so I'll keep it brief!
Thanks for watching da vid and feel free to comment any of your own team reworks for the kalos elite 4!
Have a good day!
This is just a minor fought but it would be helpful if Drasna use a mega Altaria instead? I mean, I don't know much about his abilities and attacks but dragon/fairy is a good typing right (or i might be wrong)?
@@irritatorgoner1087 it's a reasonable thought, and it's what I'd have gone for if mega altaria was in the game (it was only added in ORAS)
@@RoryTheFiend fair point. Neither way, if it could be added i would suggest two moveset options.
First: dragon pulse, hyper voice(fairy boost by pixelate), earthquake and fire blast.
Second: dragon claw, return(fairy boost and it still in this generation), earthquake and dragon dance.
Have fun fighting her😊
@@irritatorgoner1087 dragon dance pixelate return sounds awesome tbh, I think people would run that in competitive with earthquake and roost, very fun Pokémon tbh!
@@RoryTheFiendthanks 😊
I like your new interpretation of Diantha’s team. Diantha’s original theme is based having the highest stat of every Kalos Mon introduced that Gen. Hawlucha: Speed, Gourgeist: Defense, Goodra: Special Defense, Aurourus: HP, Tyrantrum: Attack, and Mega Gardevoir: Special Attack. Additionally, they’re all loosely based on movie genres too. Hawlucha: Action, Gourgeist: Horror, Tyrantrum: Kaiju, Aurourus: Classic, Goodra: Kids, M-Gardevoir: Princess
Holy crap, I didn’t read into all of that when fighting her, but thematically that’s like the deepest reference of all champion trainers!
Although the movie genre theme is on point, the stat one is wrong. If we ignore legendaries and mythicals:
Speed: Talonflame
Defense: Avalugg (Carbink if we exclude aces)
Special defense: Florges
HP: Aurouras (correct)
Attack: Aegislash (Pangoro if we exclude aces)
Special attack: Mega Alakazam (Aegislash if we exclude megas, Clawitzer if we exclude megas and aces)
Ya but the xy game makers should have created some more good kalos pokemons too considering the Kalos Champion!
That's all I think
Kalos has the least amount of Pokemon
Aurorus,Tyrantrum hold back the entire team
This legit?
@@yashsurana4617 Kalos has enough good Pokémon compare to older gen. It's easily surpasses gen 2 and 4 when it comes to Pokémon you would actually put on a decent and fun team. Problem is that people take the number of Pokémon in Kalos at eye level and decide there are not enough of them, forgetting that a lot of gen 2 and 4 Pokémon are either crap, babies, or cross gen evolutions which should really be counted like megas. The problem with Diantha's team is mostly the choice of Pokémon, but there are plenty of options left in the Kalos dex that would work better than repeats from gym 2 and 3.
One thing I love about Gen 6 is that it continues the “Pick any Elite 4 Member” Battle Option that Gen 5 started. All Elite 4 members are supposed to be near equals so it feels weird when the first 4 Gens made it where there was a definitive weakest and strongest Elite 4 member. Strong and Weak should be subjective based on the trainer not by levels.
Did they still keep that in Gen 9 with Paldea's Pokémon League?
@@UnwantedGhost1-anz25 no unfortunately not
@@UnwantedGhost1-anz25they do keep it specifically for the blueberry DLC. And what I like about them specifically is they while they still have the “choose whoever you feel like” there’s still the aspect of “ranking” among them and even goes into “they overcame their weaknesses to get to the top”
So like Amayras the steel trainer had to overcome Crispin the Fire trainer. Lacey the Fairy trainer beat Amayras, and Drayton the dragon master overcame Lacey
@@blazingunicorn4035and Crispin overcame no-one....
It should not be subjective. Your argument really makes no sense beyond "I wish this guy could be considered stronger". They have a ranking just like gym leaders do. "B-but the anime" came out AFTER the games. So again, not correct.
Honestly I just wish mega altaria existed in XY, it fits drasna vibe so much, it's a cute and calm but still capable
Same, but who knows what Game Freak was thinking back in the early 2010s before developing Pokémon X and Y.
If Mega Altaria existed in X/Y it was guaranteed on her team as her ace. I'd probably give it the moveset something like Return, Earthquake, Dragon Dance, Roost, just an all round menace
I think possibly when x and y came out they already had mega altaria and others planned but wanted to save them for when ORAS came out a year later, just a guess so I could be wrong
@@RoryTheFiendnah that makes a lot of sense. They knew they had a Hoenn game coming out in a year, so saved most of the Hoenn megas. I only wish they woulda done an update for XY to allow the new ORAS megas to be used in it.
yeah! also I'm pretty sure in pokemon journeys where she actually appears- X Y really didn't wanna show the elite 4 for whatever reason... but she has a mega altaria there-
The elite 4 not having Megas will never make sense to me this gen underutilized megas
my thoughts exactly, dont want to give the later gyms megas? not what I'd do but okay. not giving the elite 4 megas? I got no clue why not
Exactly
I think that :
Mega Steelix
Mega Blastoise (Mega Gyarados is already used by Lysandre so Blastoise is basically the only option)
Mega Charizard X/Y based on the version sounds cool, and both would patch a hole in a mono Fire team, X is part Dragon so it fixes the water weakness and would add a powerful physical attacker and Y is immune to ground and the sun also patches up the fire weakness whilst powering itself up
As for the Dragon type, I'm just sad that Mega Altaria was only introduced in ORAS because it would fit her very well and I don't think there was any other Dragon type mega in XY that would work
@@sephikong8323Mega Steelix was ORAS, not XY
@flashback2016 Damn really? The passing of time is making my memories fuzzy it seems.
Wait but what the hell were the Steel type Mega in XY ??? Aggron Metagross and Mawile all came in ORAS as well (okay, I will admit I'm not 100% sure about Mawile, but since I'm 110% confident Sableye started in ORAS then I think Mawile did too).
I forgot that the choice of Megas in XY was that limited actually lmfao
@@sephikong8323 just Scizor, Aggron (Y only) and Mawile for X and Y. And I guess Lucario, but tbf it's real easy to forget his Steel typing
It honestly annoys me that they didn't make any Gen 6 Megas because that means giving all of the E4 megas means not being able to give them new mons as their aces. They're stuck with old megas for their aces.
yeah it's odd they didn't want to make any megas for the gen mega pokemon came out in, well kalos itself has the least amount of new pokemon added (supplemented a little by megas I guess).
But you're right having mega pokemon for at least the elite 4 that are from gen 6 would be cool!
Hopefully Legends Z-A rectifies this; I can think of plenty of Gen 6 mons that deserve Megas (also Flygon).
@@RoryTheFiendwell, it’s simple really, new thing already cool and new don’t need fancy bells. Old thing weak and boring need update need mega.
Isn't diancie gen 6?
@@bullymaguire632 I mean, yes, but Rory specifically pointed out that Diancie did not get their Mega until ORAS, and that that's why they didn't put Mega Diancie on Diantha's team.
Mega Blastoise on Siebold's team like in that mini series is Mega Based!
To be fair not many other options for a mega for siebold, that mini series was great fun to watch, seeing mega Pokémon battling each other, might need to rewatch it as it's been a while
I was thinking about Diantha's team earlier in the week, and came across an interesting comment stating that Kalos' Elite Four could be seen to fairy tales-Diantha's especially, Of course, that's just a theory… -a -*-game-*- theory!- but given that _X_ & _Y_ introduced Fairy-type? It's one that I can actually buy. (And not gonna lie: Gourgeist being a nod to the pumpkin chariot from Disney's take on _Cinderella_ makes a lot of sense, and is a cool reference.) With that in mind, I tried my hand at crafting my own team, to see if I could deliver on a fairy tale theme *without* all of the glaring flaws and weaknesses that her canon one has.
① 【The Heroic Knight】 Escavalier 〔Shell Armor〕 - Megahorn | Iron Head | Drill Run | Swords Dance
② 【Mad King / Ancient Evil】 Tyrantrum 〔Strong Jaw〕 - Stone Edge | Ice Fang | Fire Fang | Poison Fang
③ 【Fairy Godmother】 Florges (White Flower ver.) 〔Symbiosis〕 - Moonblast | Psychic | Giga Drain | Wish
④ 【The Witch】 Malamar 〔Contrary〕 - Night Slash | Psycho Cut | Rock Slide | Toxic
⑤ 【The Dragon】 Goodra 〔Gooey〕 - Dragon Pulse | Earthquake | Sludge Bomb | Fire Blast
⑥ 【The Princess】 Gardevoir 〔Pixilate〕 - Moonblast | Psychic | Shadow Ball | Thunderbolt
As you can see, some inspiration _may_ have been taken from the above video, haha.
This video is already five months old at this point, so I doubt many people will read this message… but if you did, and liked my zany team comp? Thanks. I had fun cooking this up.
Kinda wish Siebold had kept Clawitzer, one thing I really liked about the Kalos E4 is that at least they use two new Pokémon each, which is a lot given how fee new Pokémon there were in gen 6... Adding a mega on top of two new ones would make them a lot better I'd say, but Clawitzer specifically also fits him too well with him being a fancy french chef, y'know, lobster...
Yes, Seibold should have also kept starmie too, literally the only thing threatening both chesnaught and Mega-Venusaur, now it's a free sweep for them. I understand that the reason he removed clawitzer was to prevent a repeat with mega blastoise, but it's the only team clawitzer fits in so I don't like that choice overall, even if it's from the anime. Gyarados was already the standout from the original team as it was the only nuzlock ender in the whole region, so giving it its mega would make a lot of sense. And yes I know mega gyarados is already Lysandre's ace, But IDK make Lysandre's red gyarados or something.
I like the inclusion of politoad on the team for how well it suits the french chef, but god does rain does nothing for the team. You either need a solid rain abuser with it or it's really a dead weight.
@@artimist0315 Imo they should've given Mega Gyarados to Siebold, Mega Absol to Lysandre, and the Mega Kanto starter that is strong against yours to the rival.
@HimekoIzayoi I don't think that would really make much sense. Absol isn't an evil Pokémon and the whole point of gyarados is that it becomes evil while pushed to the extreme, exactly what Lysandre is all about. I do agree that Absol was a random choice to give to the rival but the association between lysandre and gyarados is iconic at this point, in the same way that you wouldn't imagine Cynthia without a garchomp, you wouldn't imagine Lysandre without a mega gyarados. For me what they should have done is to give lysandre a red gyarados, as it suits his ideology, place in the scenario and visual motif perfectly, ans every other media than the games agree on the fact that Lysandre's gyarados is red, and give seibold a normal mega-gyarados, as elite 4 Pokémon are really only here for the challenge and the theme of the team and not much for storytelling purposes.
The ideal situation would have obviously been to give a Mega-Milotic to Seibold, as it suits his theme of "art" perfectly, but sadly we don't live in a world where mega milotic is a thing. My hope is that if we ever get a remake of the base game developed by competitent people, we get mega-milotic for siebold, mega-flygon for Drasna, mega Skarmory for Wikstrom and mega-chandelure for malva, but I doubt we live in that world
@@artimist0315 I know Absol isn't evil, but it's a very beautiful pokemon, especially when it mega evolves, and Lysandre is also all about "muhhh beauty". It could also represent how Lysandre is trying to rid the world of the ugliness that has corrupted it (albiet in a very twisted way).
Though as you say, shiny Mega Gyarados also suits him. They should've made more water megas. Where's my Mega Lumineon, Gamefreak?
Lumoise Trainer Zac, or Zactoshi should see this. He made a new team video on Gen 6 a few years ago. Funnily enough, he had a Pangoro in Diantha's team as her bodyguard.
That's awesome, I wonder what he'd think of my changes then
Can't forget drasna. She's G to the I to the L to the F
Ah yes, a Granny I'd like to fight 😎
Girls In Le France
Well I'd say she's more of a M to the I to the L to the F but aged like a fine wine

Big improvements across the board.
Diantha's team certainly had some unexpected choices, but they're more diverse as a result. And I love that she has a shiny on her team - giving her a shiny would definitely add to the memorable factor. And bless you for including Roserade.
I always appreciate team improvements for my favourite Champion - some can potentially give Cynthia a run for her money. Seriously, I really want Diantha to return with a formidable team for fans to remember and potentially fear her by. Enough of the Cynthia pandering.
Maybe if Pokémon anime Diantha went with this team instead, Leon's Rillaboom probably wouldn't have swept. She might even have won in the Masters 8 of Pokémon Journey.
Leon's rillaboom when it uses a grass move that roserade 4x resists 🐒☠️
Nahhhhh he would still win anyways because of plot armor, he has to fight Ash 💁♂️
@@RoryTheFiend and a goodra that probably had sap sipper
@@tak3sh129 I know. It just wouldn't have been as embarrassing for the Kalos champion. It's bad enough that most Generation 6 characters got the short end of the stick in Journeys.
I personally think your Seibold team is a weaker overall, especially without Starmie. You have to keep in mind 2/3rd of the players will have either a chesnaught or a Mega-Venusaur on their team and the team you created is terrible at dealing with those, since your scariest options are physical which will get tanked by both of them.
Psychic Starmie was a nice way to break those starters open, it probably wasn't OHKOing them but is the best water type option to hit venusaur through thick fat as well as being excellent against chesnaught.
I feel like the addition of Politoad feels a bit wasted here, since non of the Pokémon are actually taking advantage of the rain. It suits the french chef theme well but that's about it. Sure the water type buff is nice, but DDGyarados, Barbaracle and Blastoise do not need it to be threatening and Lanturn feels like deadweight.
I think the Gyarados, Starmie core worked the best here and I also like Clawitzer, both because it fits the theme of a chef and also because it's the only team it can be included in. Barbanacle is the one that need to go, it's much too weak as an ace, and doesn't synergies well in a mono water. It would be much better suited in the rock gym.
I actually like Politoad in the team but you gotta put a Pokémon that really takes advantage of the rain. If this was ORAS mega-pert would be a no brainer, but since we are limited to the XY Dex I feel like either Kingdra, Ludico, seismitoad or Tentacruel would complement the rain better with rain dish and Swift swin shenanigans and help cover the type matchups without being as passive as lanturn is.
Rest/Hydration Vaporeon or Lapras could also be nice here but I feel like the team would be too weak to electrik with them.
I'd have had Seibold change the Gyarados for the Clawitzer. Yes, Gyarados is amazing, but every big water leader uses it. This allows him to shine without needing such a big powerful pokemon.
personally i think mega ampharos fits drasna a little bit better than garchomp. i’d have clemont’s mega be mega manectric instead so she could have ampharos
True. People were already mentioning this in the Gym Leader video, and I get the sense Rory would have went that route if only the Leader video weren't already posted. Got painted into a corner.
Still, the real sad thing is that Altaria's Mega wasn't added until ORAS, as that would have been the perfect fit instead, having been on her base team and being a Dragon type before and after Mega Evolving.
its been so long i honestly forgot mega manectric was introduced in xy and not oras lol
13:05 i didn't know that earthquake changed to a rock tipe move in gen 6😂😂
Aw snap, something always flies under my radar
I think dual screens would be better on lead klefki tbh….make those bulky steel types even more threatening
That with a Light Clay on it would be hella awful to deal with.
I love wikstroms team, all so meanacing and i can imagine his klefki jist chilling by his belt as a secret weapon 😅
Yeah klefki just completely has a different feeling compared to his new team full of menaces, but is a fun and interesting Pokémon in its own right
It coming off of his belt when a battle starts would be sick, a little part of his character design people might not notice then suddenly the keys fling off into battle o_O
The only change I'd give to Diantha's team is swapping out Gorebyss with a Shiny Milotic. With the ability, Marvel Scales. Holding a Lum Berry. With Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Safeguard, and Recover. And have her Roserade be shiny so that half of the team are like that to show-off.
I would have likely used milotic for her team but unfortunately it's not in the kalos regional Dex :--( but at the very least then if it did exist and I added milotic her team would start to look a lot like Cynthia's lol
I aways saw Drasna as the one dragon trainer that doesn't have a semi-legendary and that was her gimmick.
Just using solid natural power of dragons instead of relying on high base stats
Yeah, Mega Ampharos woulda been better if it hadn't ended up already used in the Gym Leaders video. Or Mega Altaria if it weren't for the fact that it wasn't added until ORAS.
Diantha do be showing with her Shiny Gigalith.
Not gonna judge tho, it's a great Shiny.
Yeah. It just would have been better if she had a Shiny Milotic instead of Gorebyss.
She's flashing that wealth
Unfortunately Milotic does not exist in the Kalos pokedex, it was a pokemon I was thinking of giving her before I realised that
Why not Shiny Gardevoir?
I hope you eventually do all of the mainline Pokémon games. Your versions of what could have been made me appreciate them even more. Thank you, Rory. I wish your channel grows soon. 🍀
Thank you so much :) I'm certainly planning on "fixing" more games gym leaders, and trying out some other sort of theory crafting videos, it takes a bit of time to make but I assure you more is to come!
Me, not having played this games: Yes I agree in everything
Me, who's played the game a lot: yes I agrre with everything
Just what I like to see, people agreeing with me!!!! Lol
Removing starmie for Lanturn is definitely questionable at first, Starmie is the only thing preventing a sweep by Chesnaught and Mega-Venusaur, making Seibold team the only dangerous team in the entire game. This new team is extremely weak to grass type now, only to gain an elektrik type immunity which is just not useful at all in kalos. Not only that but Lanturn is a generally bad and passive pokemon.
I heard that Dianth'as team was terrible but nothing prepared me for that Aurorus dear Arceus...
The small roasts when introducing the characters add a lot of personality to the videos, the mix of humor and information is top notch (also I learned to build better teams! :D thanks!)
i don't remember where i read it, but iirc Diantha's team represents different movie genres: action, historical, horror, I think children movies for Goodra? It felt all over the place ngl, I like your new team better
Yeah that Aurorus is a mess lol, I do like the small jokes I add, though I gotta say kalos games the characters are less developed so my jokes were shorter than usual lol, but yeah a few people commented that Diantha's team represents different movie genres, at least for her new team I wanted to represent her in different ways (roserade for the beauty and grace, gigalith for wealth and status etc etc)
Thank you for the kind words!
Not a fan of him only giving her two Kalos Pokemon though
While I've made lists of how I would build the Elite 4 of Kalos, they were not as detailed as this one. Great job!
Bruhhh the iv’s of the champion’s pokemon are wild! Why would they ever do that 🤣
I remember my play through of X and Y and I can only hope that AZ game that’s coming out will be better. I picked Fennekin as my starter and Bulbasaur as my 2nd. Thst alone pretty much sealed the game since I never had to switch out unless I wanted to. Delphox took out half the gyms. My Team going to the Elite 4 was Delphox, Venasaur, Lucario, Raichu, Swanna and Snorlax. The only Elite that gave me a DECENT fight ( and I say that lightly) was Siebold and that’s because he had Earthquake on Gyarados. Other than that I used Swanna for Malva, Delphox for Wikstrom, and Lucario for Drasna. I disnt half to but I one shot Diantha with Mega Lucario 🤦
All should have mega options. 5 Pokémon. A balanced set that cover for each Pokémon as well as switching out when needed and kalos could be in a better state If we return there after Z
If only mega altaria was in xy then the megas would be the same as the anime choices in their megas
yup, I wasnt intentionally referencing the anime, but yeah the anime makes logical choices on what their megas should be, if mega altaria existed in x and y then she'd 100% have one
Can't help but think all those hazards is Diantha 'setting the stage' which feels right for an actress
27:02)
THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT!
THE GOOOOOAT!
But why Earthquake instead of Earth Power since Special Attack is better for Hydreigon? Is Drasna stupid?
It's just to deal some good damage on Pokemons with weak physical defense. Of course, earth power would be great too.
Yup, hydreigon is a mixed attacker leaning more specially so I think it's valuable to have 1 attack physical to help against special walls (and earthquake is 10 base power more so the damage difference will be pretty small)
I bet shiny Gigalith is a reference to Carbink or more specifically Diancie. Which for some reason didn't get mega evolution until Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Shiny gigalith is basically there since it's similar to Carbink being a shiny sort of crystal rock that looks like it'd be for people with fame and money like diantha, while also just being a strong pokemon, I was tempted to use a carbink but its not really offensive enough so players might just set up moves like dragon dance for free against it.
Not sure i'm too fond of clawitzer getting axed for Siebold because all of the other reworked elite 4 have 2 native kalos mons on there team and it fits the whole chef vibe of his team nicley.
Also shame Mega Diancie wasen't an option on the table for Diantha in XY as i'm a big fan of NPC's using legendaries when thematically fitting.
The Elite 4's individual battle themes in Pokemon Masters EX slaps tho
Yeah I really like some of Masters EX music! Oh and well regular X and Y elite 4 music slaps too
It’s crazy how the Pokémon anime had to give these elite 4 the mega evolution Pokemon they deserve
🔥🔥🔥🔥 Chandelure is almost a forgotten mon man! also massive congrats on 10K bro!
yooo gen thnx for the kind words, Chandelure is such a legend, love that mon!
My main issue is one the game doesn’t capitalize on: The use of Hidden Abilities on NPCs. During the MAIN story, how many NPCs have Pokémon with their Hidden Abilities?
A lot of hidden abilitiescompletely change how a pokemon can function, I have no clue if the main story NPCs use hidden abilities (I know for older gens they were all like locked having 1 ability, e.g. in gen 4 all pokemon abilities are locked to their 1st ability, so you'll never see a No guard machoke for example, it's always guts.)
This version of Kalos needs to become a rom hack! If so I would love to play it
Yeah and unofficial hard mode for X and Y! I have no clue are gen 6 ROM hacks even a thing?
@@RoryTheFiend they are a thing and you can take a look at the rom hack known as “Ancestral X”
@@RoryTheFiend There are several gen 6 romhacks that exist already! Ancestral X is a good one to check out
I mean, Eternal X exists
For Dianthea I'd probably give her a team of Furfrou (La Reine Trim), Steelix, Pangoro, Florges, Goodra, Mega Gardevoir. I dunno I feel like Florges is an obvious choice to have her as a team because of the whole Fairy type being new in X and Y, I feel like she should have had like at least 2 of them and it's also a Kalos Pokemon.
Furfrou is a very odd choice but it's more odd to have a Pokemon with a mechanic of grooming and not have any important trainer have it ? It's also a mark of wealth as the game is closely related to wealth and royalty and Furfrou looks like it would fit very well on the theme. It could also be used as a derfensive pokemon due to its ability Fur Coat.
Steelix is a reference to Venus from Pokemon Colosseum. And I wanted Dianthea to have a Pokemon or two that is completely opposed to her "aesthetic" rather than giving her a Roserade since Cynthia had one, I would have went for Gyarados but again same reason than Roserade, plus too many champions use it (Blue, Lance, Wallace).
I kinda wish you kept the theme Diantha's team originally had of using one Pokemon that gives one type of EV each, and included more Kalos original Pokemon instead of making it half kinda random Pokemon from other regions, but I do think at least Roserade fits her, so I can't complain too much, and either way, she definitely did need alternate Pokemon to her Hawlucha and fossils because it always feels weird to see someone use the aces of other trainers.
I hear you there, that was a nice subtle theme she had going on, too bad it made her team quite unbalanced lol. I agree though her using hawlucha and the fossils just felt a bit odd, so at the minium I wanted to use pokemon not really seen up till this point with a 50/50 split on kalos and non kalos
@@RoryTheFiend That's fair. Though I think what really throws me off is the lack of synergy with Pangoro and Parting Shot. It is nice to see a switch move, don't get me wrong, and if Pangoro lives the hit, a new Pokemon will basically come in for free, but who exactly to switch out to? Roserade would deal with Fairy types, which is the most common Pokemon to go against Pangoro, but by the time Pangoro comes out, Roserade will have already fainted due to being her lead. Maybe switch the lead to Gigalith? Could also be kind of a flex on the player to start with a Shiny lol.
he cooked again 🔥
Not on Malva, easy way to fix the sun issue is lead with Zard Y
I'm not going to lead with a mega, that would go against the theming of Pokémon bosses of saving the toughest for last
@@RoryTheFiend Plus she's already known for the Mega you chose in extended media anyway.
Was it right after X and Y that Torkoal got drought? If so, that is a cruel slap in the face to Malva's team comp
I do feel a bit bad for Diantha. Her original team has some nice offensive coverage, and the BST totals are nice. And her levels are actually pretty high compared to the levels of other champions... She just fell victim to Gamefreak's questionable choices and the Exp. Share mechanics.
I do love her team, though. The fact that other than Gardevoir, they made sure that all of her Pokémon were original to Kalos. (Also Tyrantrum, Aurorus, Gourgeist, and Goodra are all pretty high on my favorite Pokémon list)
I don't really like when people hate on her because her character is really cool, even if she is underutilized. I just hope that whenever X & Y remakes happen, they don't do a 1 for 1 recreation. I want more lore, more interactions with Diantha... Maybe going deeper into Team Flare to make them feel like an actual team instead of just a concept (like seriously, why do we fight so many unnamed Admin NPCs when there are 6 named characters that have unique designs and we barely see them... Make it make sense) I would love to see more conflict in terms of Team Flare's ideals and Diantha's response to them.
P.S.- The fact that Diancie is an ORAS Mega is disappointing because I feel like Mega Diancie fits Diantha's vibe even more than Mega Gardevoir. And having an essentially 700 BST ace could have made Diantha one of the most memorable champions.
yeah but her team gets slayed by the coolest 6 gen pokemon aegislash
People hate on her bc her team sucked bad half of her team is weak to ice as if now ik ice isn't a common type but thats not the point the whole game was a joke tbh
@@sweetwolfsteve5583 I mean, yes she had 4 Pokémon with Ice type weaknesses, but three of those four had a way to hit Ice for super effective damage (2 of which being STAB).
Like, her team is essentially just Steven Stone's team without the Steel Type. Steven has less type diversity (2 Steel, 2 Rock, 1 Steel/Rock), and he has three Pokémon with a WATER weakness, none of them have coverage to hit said weakness, and water is the most prevalent type in Hoenn.
Like, Diantha's team is just Kalos Steven. She starts with a single stage bird (Hawlucha / Skarmory). She has both fossil mons (Tyrantrum & Aurorus / Cradily & Armaldo). She has a random two stage mon that fits the aesthetic (Gourgeist / Claydol). She has the pseudo-legendary (Goodra / Metagross). She has a three stage line that is perfect for her (Gardevoir / Aggron). But her Gardevoir is a Mega.
Like fundamentally her team is at least par with Steven, and it has more type diversity than 6 water types Wallace and 6 flying types Lance. Lance literally also has 4 Ice Type weaknesses, three of those are QUAD WEAK, and only two of the four have coverage to hit Ice. And that isn't even talking about Rock types. And then with Wallace, he has a quad grass weakness, a quad electric weakness, two pure water types that could be hit by either, a Tentacruel who is weak to electric, and the strongest member of the team (Ludicolo).
Her team is actually really good, she is just screwed over by the game design. She ended up an easy fight for an easy game, but that doesn't mean she is a bad Champion. The hints of her character are really cool, and she has a team of theoretically strong Pokémon that are all aesthetically fitting for her. I am a Diantha defender (and I try to sometimes stick up for Geeta even though her non-DLC team is kind of an oof). I just feel like people judge Diantha too harshly instead of looking at her compared to the rest of the game.
And in a vacuum, if you had all the champions in a lineup where they all were the same level, her team comp is actually pretty impressive. Sure, she's no Cynthia, but she wouldn't be in the bottom two or three.
Great vid as always! I like it when you give your opinion more on why the original is so bad, you pointing out how dumb some of the moves are and why is always entertaining. Hope the feedback is okay 👍
Heya! You've been making some amazing content, I've been really enjoying going through all the videos you've made when I've had the time to look at them, and I can't wait to see more!
Kinda amusing how Diantha's team has worse ivs than every elite four member before her, and from what I remembered from the gym leaders video, even some of the gym leaders have better ivs than Diantha's team. Wonder why they did that lol
As someone who grew up with XY as one of my first Pokemon games, its interesting seeing hard mode teams being made for the gym leaders and elite four of the game.
Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read this, have a great rest of your day!
Hey, thank you for the kind words! Comments like these make me feel like I'm doing at least something right.
Yeah even the 1st Gym leader has IVs of 22 on her Pokémon so I'm guessing they meant to type in 28 not 8 for Dianthas Pokémon's IVs but messed up.
Yup I think hard mode teams have a lot of potential that I haven't seen people make videos on much before, I would love if game freak made it a real thing some day.
Oh boy. I have to travel for a bit tomorrow morning. I definitely know what I'm listening to! Always glad to see you uploading :)
Hope your travels go smoothly! I love a good theorycrafting vid or tier list vid if I'm out travelling
My uploading is a bit slower than Id like (keeping it real I lately got into persona 5 and just had like a full week of playing that when I could) but yeah I restrained myself a bit with that and buckled down for this video
@@RoryTheFiend Pokemon teams for Persona 5 characters when? ...I'm joking, of course, but not a bad content idea that randomly entered my head reading this. And then you could justify your casual game play eating into your schedule as research for a video (although that could get toxic, since downtime is important).
Tbh Gale wings on Talonflame is kinda useless, for an in-game playthrough your pokemon almost always have shit IVs+ are most likely not EV trained whatsoever + you said youre making it so that it has 31 IVs across the board + Talonflame is already blazing fast with 125 Base speed, that Talonflame is almost guanateed to move first without priority anyways .
Gale wings is only good in competetive because everything in competetive is super optimized + most hold choice scarf or use priority moves which is why Gale Wings is good there .
For in-game tho, unless youre usong your own talonflame or ( for some reason ) went out of your way to EV train your pokemon youre most likely getting outsped by Talonflame regardless , and at least Flame Body can potentially cripple a physical attacker
Also i personally feel like dual screens support with light clay is WAAAY more valuable on Klefki than Spikes and calm mind, Klefki doesnt have that much firepower and even after a calm mind its nowhere fast enough to even get that much mielage out of it , and Wikstroms entire team is weak to fire so the player is probably not doing that much switching around in the first place for the chip damage ( again entry hazards are only good in competetive because those matches usually last really long so a lot of switching out is happening ), so dual screens are more useful to give Wikstroms mon a bit more bulk ( especislly the 4× weak Escavalier and scizor )
Hi Rory, I just discovered your channel and have binged this entire series just cause I've found it pretty interesting. I"m all for "fixing" this kind of stuff, I love the Drayano hacks where he does similar work, and I'm just interested as to how you made the graphics that you use for your video, for example, the one at 7:43 showing Siebold's team. I'd like to do something like this on my own time and I haven't been able to find anything that looks nearly as clean as those ones you're using. Thx in advance!
I honestly feel like, Torkoal with drought would of done more justice here. Since you have a set up in sunny day already up with Pyroar why not save Torkoal to be used later in the fight for Mega Houndoom to come out after with its solar power boosted stats to run rampant on a much longer sun duration
You also, technically could’ve used Dual Wingbeat on mega scizor to increase his flying type coverage damage immensely
Another suggestion I could make would be made Life orb on Hydreigon, it would boost the damage more then the belt. It already gets slapped across the head by fairy moves, so what’s the harm in a little more power for chip damage in return
Last suggestion is towards what I could say for Drasna’s team.
Personally, it is good keeping Dragalge in the crew to have poison for fairy types however. You now have a big flaw with ice types, I’d say Kingdra or Noivern could be swapped out for Tyrantrum instead as well as Garchomp being swapped for Mega Altaira
I enjoyed the video though, Kalos elite 4 definitely needs justice given to it
Overall, these team are quite great, especially with Seabolds team.
Pangoro's non dark type Parting Shot was a surprise I hadn't expected to see
The only slight criticism is that Hidden Abilities are EXTREMELY rare in the main game on NPC teams. Not only that they're typically post-game (OR/AS superboss Wally, rematch Sidney and both N's Spring and Summer teams in B2/W2). I can only think of like one case where an NPC trainer before the post-game (not counting DLC's in later gens) uses Hidden Ability mons. That being an Ace Trainer duo in Vast Poni Canyon with a Aloan Ninetales that has Snow Warning in the Ultra games, their Aloan Slandslash might have Slush Rush.
So while I like the idea of giving NPC trainers Hidden Ability mons, it doesn't feel in-line with content before the post-game. Plus considering that you can't get something like Gale Wings Talonflame until the post-game, that's a problem. Most of the really good Hidden Abilities are post-game content, sure you can get a few before then (ended up with a Toxic Boost Zangoose in my X rotation), but something as strong as Gale Wings Talonflame is just too much. However outside of that (and the unobtainable shiny) this is pretty good.
Seibold: Politoed should try being bulky, and have moves such as perish song, protect, encore, hypnosis. Ideal set would be hydro pump/scald, encore, protect, and hypnosis. This would offer a defensive, and punish those who tried using a set up move at the start of the battle, and locking them into it, and then getting pelted by hydro pump/scald for big damage. With hypnosis to try inflicting status conditions to maintain the leas
Malva: pyroar (I hate this mon, but like sinnoh, trying to find ideal fire types is impossible) should be utilized as a secondary bulky Mon, but also dealing damage at the same time. Basically a crappy version of what torkoal is already doing. I propose the moveset of snarl, noble roar, will-o-wisp, and incinerate. With this moveset it will allow it to burn and cripple physical offensive threats, snarl being a dark type move giving much needed diversity to the team, while also lowering special offensive mons, and noble roar hitting both offensive and special offensive threats and making them weaker. Incinerate being there will give pyroar a stab option while also burning through the players held berries as well.
Torkoal would be a better open lead with white smoke ability allowing malva to always be able to start the battle on equal grounds (meaning no intimidating). With a moveset of flamethrower, solar beam, amnesia, and sunny day. While holding the heat rock. This would allow malva to start a battle with a bulky Mon, who is gonna get the sun up, and then potentially blast away at the opponents with high powered flamethrowers, and 1 turn solar beams, or opting to be even bulkier with amnesia for longevity.
Chandelier: only change would be giving it a life orb instead for even stronger hits.
Talonflame: only change would be changing sword dance for tailwind instead, offering the rest of the team more speed, since talonflame is gonna get ko'ed with a single pebble
Houndoom: nasty plot, dark pulse, flamethrower, and sludge bomb.
Malva ideal order would be torkoal, talonflame, pyroar, chandelure and then her ace mega houndoom
Winkstrum: klefki is designed to be a wall and hazard set, so it should be running moves like protect, spikes, toxic, etc and not offensive. So instead let's give it spikes, toxic, protect, and flash cannon. This set makes it so klefki can fire off priority toxic and spikes. While protecting to stall, and flash cannon bc AI is stupid, and so klefki can also fire an attack off as well.
Escavalier: sword dance, mega Horn, iron head, and drill run.
Skarmory: roost, stealth rock, drill peck, and whirlwind work well. Stealth rock over rock slide is so that way we can rack up even more entry hazards to the players, forcing them to stay in, unless they want to keep taking excessive damage. Whirlwind over steel wing is that were wanting something that will help force switches and skarmory is bulky enough to do just that.
Aegislash: sword dance, king's shield, sacred sword and shadow sneaky. Shadow sneak for priority and picking off weaker Pokemon, which with all the hazards and eagislash damage potential makes it an insanely good option over shadow ball. Also replace the red card with leftovers for recovery over time, and gives it even more longevity since it's priority killing, and kings shielding
Ideal team would go klefki, then escavalier, then skarmory then Aegislash, and then mega scizor
Drasna: kingdra surf over waterfall
Noivern: boomburst over focus blast. You already have steel coverage in the form of flamethrower
Garchomp: sword dance, earthquake, dragon claw, and poison jab.
Diantha: so diantha like you said is a very tricky and unusual trainer to redesign. What I gathered is that she's rich/classy and elegant, a well known actress, and keeps a well balanced team with all of her Pokemon having the highest in one of its stats. So with everything we know, here's the team I propose
Speed Aerodactyl (tailwind, rock slide, thunder fang and sky drop)
Attack : Dragonite (dragon dance, roost, extreme speed, dragon claw)
Defense: Umbreon (payback, curse, double team, moonlight)
Special attack: Gardevoir (calm mind, psychic, moon blast, and signal beam)
Special defense: florgeist ( giga drain, calm mind, aromatherapy, and moon blast)
HP: Lapras (freeze dry, hydro pump, rest, sleep talk)
Her team is Aerodactyl, Lapras, florgeist, Dragonite, mega Gardevoir, and Umbreon
So I designed this team to fit the superstar actress through mega Gardevoir, Lapras and florgeist being extravagant and pretty Pokemon. With Umbreon fitting in as well in a way as like a cool and stylish Pokemon.
While as her Dragonite, Aerodactyl help show off how powerful she is as a champion, being able to own and tame a prehistoric Pokemon and a sudo legendary pokemon.
Another concept I put in was a mix between both kalos and Kanto, as there seems to be a lot of crossover mixture through the game. So her Kanto Pokemon being represented by Aerodactyl, Dragonite, and Lapras, while kalos is help represented by mega Gardevoir, and florgeist.
She also has access to a wide variety of moves in rock, flying, electric, dragon, normal, dark, psychic, fairy, grass, bug, ice and water types, across her team, with some supporting moves in aromatherapy, and tail wind to remove status conditions, and maintain speed control.
Hopefully you liked this idea concept as it took a bit of researching and though that went into this team composition
I think you could improve rival teams through the story (Blue/Gary, Silver, Wally and Brendan/May), Evil boss teams and their admins too since they are interesting (Aqua, magma and rocket for example). Keep the great content anyway you're doing very good
This video was almost flawless or perfect, in my personal opinion. I think all of Diantha's team should have been one level higher in numerical order. Gigalith at lv 71. Gorebyss at lv 72. Pangoro at lv 73. Goodra at lv 74. And finally Mega Gardevoir at lv 75. Keeping Shadow Ball in to counter pesky ghost types or strong/bulky psychic types. *Cough* Alakazam! *Cough* Slowbro! *Cough* Exeggutor! *Coughing intensifies*
I think I got a Froakie stuck in my throat. 😅
Or maybe raise every level by 5
Thank you so much! Yeah in all honesty I could've gone even higher with these levels lol, and having their levels raise in numerical order would be a fun sort of way to approach the sense of danger, you're one step closer to being champion but you're fighting something one level higher now.
and yeah Shadowball on gardevoir would be great! I only swapped it out to give some electric offense for her team, but yeah ghost attacks are really solid (not biased, well I am, but also I'm just spitting facts)
Using Rotom forms to counterpick the player's starter is actually a really neat idea, although understandably Rotom doesn't really have much to do with Diantha
Yeah that's why I dropped it, but it's an idea to keep in mind for another champion in another game
25:16 Actually, NPCs are programmed to switch out if a Pokémon with Natural Cure is asleep. This happened in Chuggaaconroy's Pokémon Emerald playthrough during his battle with Winona.
Oh that's interesting, well if it works in gen 3 it'd probably work in gen 6 then o_o
It does work in Gen 6, I checked. @@RoryTheFiend
@@rjd-kh8et that's cool to know, thanks for checking! the ai in Pokémon is so random but sometimes they've coded in a smart feature that people will rarely see
Siebold: agree with every choice.
Malva: Give Torkoal Sunny Day and a Quick Claw. Houndoom give Solar Beam instead of Sludge Bomb.
Wikstrom: Make Klefki a set-up lead (not sweeping) with T-Wave, Light Screen, Reflect and Foul Play holding Light Clay.
Drasna: Dragalge lead with T-Spikes, Sludge Wave, Dragon Tail and Surf. Noivern with Draco Meteor, U-Turn, Flamethrower and Focus Blast holding a Sash.
Diantha: Really difficult because her style isn't well defined other than she likes disrupting/set up. 1st team is Venusaur, Azumarill, Gardevoir, Magnezone, Chandelure, and Goodra. This gives her a Fire, Water, Grass, Dragon, Fairy, Steel team and has a mon from every generation (her original gimmick being one of every colour and specialising in a stat (i.e. two gimmicks for the team).
2nd team is Kalos RPG based as they are based on roles that she may play. Clawitzer (archer), Trevenant (druid), Florges (cleric), Aegislash (knight), Goodra (Mystic), and Gardevoir (Mage).
3rd team used mons with regal titles in their names, though it is a weaker team imo. Slowking, Nidoqueen, Rhyperior, Kingdra, Tyrantrum, Gardevoir.
I think a mega Aggron would have fit Wikstrom better than Mega Scizor. It's more of a Kaiju monster theme, but the extra armor plates do kind of make it look like a knight as well. With his bulk, and moves like Heavy Slam and Earthquake he'd be a pretty tough wall to overcome. Could be extra annoying and add some others like Screech to lower defense and some extra coverage like Superpower or Head Smash. You could even turn him into a speed sweeper using Rock polish.
I think he used Mega Scizor because of the Anime, but overall I agree with you.
I used mega scizor since he has a scizor on his team in normal X and Y, but yeah mega aggron would fit wikstrom pretty well
I will think Pangoro is a reference to martial arts movies and stories about bad/though guys having a redemption arc as a whole just to make it fit with Diantha being an actress, as I find it a really neat addition to her team (either thar or comparé it to Kung Fu Panda)
Yeah I can see that working well!
glad I added it to her team, I think it fits just as well if not more than her hawlucha
36:20 Wasn’t expecting a random toon reference or even something toontown related lol
critiques
for Seibold, his new team looks great. my only complaint is that he only has 1 way to get the rain out, through politoad. if he had 1 other way to get rain, He'd be perfect
For Malves, Id prefer the other ability with torkoal. White smoke combined with shell smash instead of amnesia for a first turn set up
Wikstrom could be made into a trick room team by replacing klefkey or skarmory with bronzong. that would fix escavalier's only real weakness and make it a hilarious sweeper, as well as giving aegislash some help in the attacking department. (it's a bit slow)
Dresna's new team is perfect
This was incredible especially Diantha's team. Love the new one for her. I'm surprised you didn't go all out with the champion with her pokemon having great IV'S across the board, all ev trained too like Cynthia in bdsp.😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you! Well I didn't want to go too in depth in the video since it might be a bit much for some viewers. If I was editing an X/Y rom I wouldn't mind adding some EVs to her pokemon
Now THAT is a Champion's team!
Wasnt expecting this today but a welcomed surprise nonetheless ❤
And a welcomed comment to see, thank you :)
if Diantha ever comes back, I’d love to see her with a Minior to replace one of her fossils if they don’t completely overhaul her team. Having that and like a Flamigo with its costar ability would be cool, not a ton of gen 6 pokemon fit superstar/actress theme all too well imo.
15:33 actually a lot of people don’t know this but the yellow ball in his hand was a hint to the ice elite 4 member in gen 3 hinting to oras coming up as Pokémon love putting in small hints in there games
First video i’ve seen of you looking forward to more quality content.
Thank you! I'm not the fastest uploader but you can expect more theorycrafting stuff in the future and I may try some hopefully unique-ish challenge runs some day.
I like the idea of making Siebold a rain team but I think Clawitzer should be a part of the team, it's a Kalos Pokémon so I think it should be a part of the Siebold's team. I made a version to replace either Lanturn or Gyrados.
Clawitzer's new moveset is Dark Pulse, Water Pulse, Dragon Pulse, and Sludge Bomb (Grass Coverage) and they'll hold either a Wacan Berry or a Rindo Berry.
Very good updates to to elite 4 and the champion, would've liked to see T spikes Draco Eject pack Dragalge tho
Oh that's a fun sounding set, do you maybe mean the red card item tho? Red card swaps out the opponents pokemon, and eject pack doesn't exist until gen 8.
I’m sure somebody else has said this, but glacia also has a yellow pokeball in her artwork
I never forget diantha. Cause I just love her theme music my favorite of any game.
Well I can think of a use for Trick-or-Treat. That Gorgeist has a Priority move that unless it is attacking a normal type is now Garunteed to hit for at least 2x damage
Hearing you say Diantha is underleveled is interesting, since her Gardevoir is actually the highest-leveled Pokémon of any Champion's team.
39:23 I didn't knew Parting Shot existed in XY and it was a Normal type move back then, maybe I really associated the move with Inceroar on point of thinking they came out in the same game
Overall, really great video and changes! I agree with most of them and think your ideas (and the viewers') are overall really well made! There isn't really much I disagree with regarding the Elite Four, but I would personally make some changes to Diantha since you mentioned it.
I saw a theory at one point that Diantha's team is supposed to represent different movie genres: Hawlucha (Action/Superhero), Tyrantrum and Aurorus (Science Fiction), Gourgeist (Horror), Goodra (Fantasy), and Gardevoir (Romance, since it resembles a bride).
I made a team that both reflects that theme and is actually, good lol. Just my opinion though:) (Apologies for the long text)
Lead: FURFROU (represents Diantha herself, the actress)
Ability: Fur Coat
Item: Leftovers
Moves: Return, Cotton Guard, U-Turn, Thunder Wave
GENGAR (Horror)
Ability: Levitate
Item: Black Sludge
Moves: Hex, Confuse Ray, Sludge Wave, Dazzling Gleam
MAGNEZONE (Science Fiction)
Ability: Analytic or Sturdy
Item: Air Balloon
Moves: Rain Dance, Mirror Coat, Gyro Ball, Thunder
PANGORO (Fighting/Martial Arts)
Ability: Iron Fist
Item: Life Orb
Moves: Drain Punch, Parting Shot, Thunder Punch, Thunder Punch
GOODRA (Fantasy)
Ability: Gooey
Item: Assault Vest
Moves: Dragon Pulse, Fire Blast, Body Slam, Sludge Bomb
Ace: MEGA GARDEVOIR (Romance)
Ability: Pixelate
Item: Gardevoirite
Moves: Hyper Voice, Psyshock, Shadow Ball, Calm Mind
Oh awesome I had never heard of that before but I can totally see it! it's a cool concept when you know about it but I would not have ever picked up on that on my own lol
Your team rework is awesome, the Pokémon choices are solid you're right they cover a lot of diverse types.
I like the furfrou addition, since it makes sense for a movie theme and goes along with dianthas high fashion and celebrity lifestyle
Only thing is some of these Pokémon don't get those moves (like pangoro elemental punches) until ORAS move tutor which sucks, I was studying up a lot for this vid and I still gave my pangoro the elemental punches before realising it's ORAS o_O
I realized I wrote Thunder Punch for Pangoro twice on accident lol my bad! That last move is supposed to be Poison Jab
@@RoryTheFiend aaaaah gotcha! I didn’t know that qwq But they could easily be worked around I’m sure lol Pangoro could get Hammer Arm still I just like Drain Punch better for recovery, and Poison Jab is obvious for Fairies lol
Not sure if Magnezone gets rain dance but you could easily just give it a mix of Thunderbolt and Flash Cannon and stuff haha
Regardless, I’m glad you like it!:)
@@jamesbell15 yeah I was totally going for iron fist punching moves pangoro until I noticed he can't in ORAS, yeah I love seeing people's own interpretation of the teams. There's never only "one" correct way to build their teams so I try and encourage people to have fun and say their ideas. Like how your team gave me a whole new perspective on Dianthas subtle theming with the movie genre stuff!
@@RoryTheFiend Happy to hear it! It's funny how we had some of the same 'mons in mind too lol Looking forward to seeing future move reworks from you! I'm not sure what others you have planned, but if you want my recommendation, the Paldea Elite Four is kinda icky (at least in their initial battle. Geeta too of course)
Much better teams especially Dianthia. Fits her much better
Thank you! I spent the most time on her team, took me a while to come to a consensus with her team but I'm happy with it!
love how my least fave character is the only E4 member not awaiting your arrival at 0:15
You did a good job rory
Appreciate it man, the limited Pokédex was interesting to work around and also means some "obvious" options aren't actually even in the game lol
Pokémon NEEDS to add hard mode for every game moving forward. Just wild that they didn’t keep it….
Definitely agree with the elite four, Diantha on the other hand wasn't my cup of tea. I appreciate what you were going for though. This would be my take on her team Which would Showcase The new heavy hitters of Kalos & be thematic with her being a movie Star & potential Roles in films she starred in.
Meowstic Male(An adoreable pet fitting for a Diva) To set up dual screens with Prankster & holding Light Clay.
Gourgeist
A nod to the horror genre and a trick room Setter for the slower teammates.
Pangoro
A powerful dark and fighting to round out the team
Aegislash
A nod to her having potentially starred in action and adventure films and a champion taking advantage of a Pokemon with a unique gimmick
Tyrantrum
A Pokemon that's a T-Rex, need I say more? Also could be a nice nod to her potentially starring in the Pokemon worlds equivalent of Jurassic Park, plus Tyrantrum would make a terrifying Dragon Dance sweeper with rock head and head smash.
Mega Diance
Overpowered? Absolutely, thematic with diantha as a trainer/Character as well as checking all the boxes of what a champion level Pokemon should be in terms of rarity, power, and fully taking advantage of the at the time new Mega Evolution gimmick? 💯%
Fair play, mega Diance was something I had considered and I think would be a cool addition though I felt her mega gardevoir was too iconic (Dinace Diantha? basically the same name!)
I like that you specified meowstic Male since it will at least feel like a different mon compared to Olympia's female meowstic!
And yeah I never properly realized her team could be nods to genres of movies, is that confirmed to be a reason behind her team?
I cannot recall there being any official reasoning as to Why Diantha has the Pokemon She does. I will say looking at past champions, her team seems to tick all the same boxes other Champion/Final Bosses do. Pokemon that are rare(Fossils), a pseudo legendary, a Pokemon with a unique type combo or ability and or an ace that takes advantage of the generational gimmick.
can’t wait to watch later!!!
lets goooo
The one thing I can say is I’d prefer Solar Beam on the Houndoom set to take advantage of Sun more.
Edit: I’d also give Garchomp Iron Head over Flamethrower to do the job of facing Ice and Fairy types when possible.
I'm gonna be honest... Diantha's team was really disapponting, in comparison to the elite four.
It kinda just felt... Random? Like, Gigalith I will admit was something i didnt think about, and i actually like your reasoning and justification, but the other three new mons just kinda felt completely tacked on and not really congruent with Diantha or eachother, beyond the most surface level observations, if even that.
Like, the shift to making her a hazard stack trainer was kinda bizzare and out of nowhere, and doing it with Roserade also just kinda seemed weird, since Diantha has literally no connection to flowers at all outside of being superficially "pretty", which... Kinda goes against the one note she has in the game of caring about things beyond their beauty.
Like, I *Love* Roserade, used to be my absolute favorite pokemon and still solidly #2, but... It does not fit here.
Replacing Hawlucha with Pangoro is also just kinda a weird choice? Hawlucha was better both thematically and just as a pokemon in general, and also giving the champion that is pretty well tied to the fairy type a pokemon thats x4 weak to fairy just feels... wrong?
It honestly feels like you just wanted to give Diantha a switch move, since you randomly made her a hazard stack trainer, making her extra vulnerable to the AI's phobia of switching, and worked backwards from there to justify it.
(Which gets worse when you bring up the Rotoms, who both have way more thematic justification (the rotoms are possessing "old and dirty" appliances and giving them new life, despite their age) *and* get Volt switch...)
I haven't read Sylver's Comment/team suggestion at this point, so I'm sure that Gorbyss makes more sense on their team.
Primarily *because* it feels so copy-pasted from a different team; it doesn't really vibe with any of the rest of the team, neither the old "bulky and powerful" theme, nor the new "stacking hazards" team idea.
It sticks out like a sore thumb, and its thematic justification is honestly weaker then Roserade's.
Again, I'm sure on Sylver's team, this one fit in perfectly; it feels like a pokemon crafted around the themes of a whole team instead of just a trainer. But when taken out of the team it was crafted for...
It just kinda falls over, because it wasn't *meant* to stand on its own.
I don't mean to be too negative, I genuinely adore the ways you've changed the other elite four, they all feel fitting and thematically appropriate; but that just kinda makes Diantha's team look even worse by comparison, because the other four teams were well-crafted with a solid idea in mind that stayed true to original intentions while improving on the mistakes of the designers, meanwhile the champion's team feels like a complete mish-mash of random ideas that only ever made it to the first draft.
(It also doesn't help that you *specifically called attention to it* by calling out Gorgeist for being a flat addition to her basegame team, when two of your own additions were on the exact same level as Gorgeist, and then Pangoro is *right there,* next to it.)
Again, genuinely, the elite four? Great! Amazing! Every single one is downright as good as they could be! Literally I would only make one singular change to any of them and thats it! (Giving Noivern Boomburst, btw)
But you said it yourself; you didn't really have an idea for the champion, and it *shows.* It's pretty clear you felt like you *had* to do Diantha, rather then having a plan for her, outside of the Shiny Gigalith. (Which I will compliment once again, as that actually feels appropriate and congruent with both Diantha and her team.)
Things I would change with your new Drasna Team is switching out Mega Garchomp for Mega Altaria as she has one in Journeys, and also for Diantha replacing Calm Mind for Shadow Ball and maybe Moonblast for Hyper Voice to deal with substitute on Gardevoir.
Mega altaria was added in oras so he can’t change it based on the xy games
@@georgehayward532 ah... its an oras only mon
Yeah it sucks as I would've 100% used Mega Altaria instead if it existed
If you ever do galar gym leaders team fixing Dracozolt/Dracovish with the sand rush ability would be perfect for raihans team and character.
Personally i don’t mind Diantha’s team she already has, to me i would’ve change the team members but i would level them up and give some members better moves
Here we go!
Wait…Skarmory can learn ROCK SLIDE?! How have I not known this??!
If the elite 4 has any types that include weather types, Gf should get the hint that it starting mon should be a weather starter.
At first I questioned Siebold’s team then I remembered French cook frog legs and it clicked perfectly but I’m not a big fan of Diantha changes your team is far superior to the one Gamefreak gave her but it broke the movie genre theme that was going on

Also furfrou over gigalith it tanks alot of gits and can dish out surprising damage in gen 6 not to mention the "noble and expensive" look to it
