    I took my Dodge Demon to the dyno again, but this time my Demon is equipped with the RACE PCM and High Octane Race Fuel. I went back to Gear Heads and used the exact same dyno to get the most accurate results that I could. I wanted to compare the new dyno results with my 2015 Dodge Hellcat and show you guys the differences between the two on paper. Taking these results into consideration I feel that the Dodge Demon was well worth the cost, but I love both cars. I was really amazed at the difference that the race fuel made on the dyno.
    I want to thank Jim Moore, the VP of Reeder Distributers for meeting with me personally and giving me advice on what he personally felt was going to be the best race fuel for the best results on the dyno. He is a great guy and if you're looking to get high octane race fuel in the DFW metroplex then I highly recommend his company!
    I also want to thank Travis from Gear Heads for sitting down with me and helping to explain the results from the dyno and what the differences are. I know that dynos will read differently, but because I tested on the same dyno I feel I have a TRUE comparison between both my 2018 Dodge Demon and my 2015 Dodge Hellcat.
    I want to thank service advisor Vince Williams, mechanic Luis Mascorro, and all the people from Meador Dodge for taking care of me. If you're looking to buy a new Dodge or Jeep then I highly recommend you ask for Kevin Eidson at Meador Dodge.

    Actually....spectacular runs..great video (he is the best imo)
    but...math is off...the shop owner of the show doesn't have that right....
    if you are saying 15% parasitic loss (which i think is reasonable...no argument there) and your RWHP and RWTorque numbers are 771 and 711, respectively...
    then you DON'T x those numbers by 1.15 (ie 115%)
    Mathematically you take rear wheel numbers 771/.85 and 711/.85
    Doing that gives you 913 HP; 836Ft/lbs at the flywheel
    As a check when you multiply 913 x 85% (ie 15% loss) = 776hp at the rear wheels (which is what the video showed)...and ditto for 836 x 85% (ie 15% loss) = 711 ft/lbs torque at the rear wheels (also what the video showed)
    So...looks like the race PCM with 100 octane is worth roughly +85hp/over the stock ECU and 93 octane (not +32 as advertised).
    IMPRESSIVE!
    And in summary....
    Real world (flywheel) Demon power numbers (assuming 15% parasitic loss):
    828HP/780TQ (stock ECU/93 octane)...vs Dodge's lowball claim...808HP/717Ft/Lbs
    913HP/836TQ (race ECU/100 octane)...vs Dodge's lowball claim....840HP/770Ft/Lbs

    For anyone interested in the math because manufacturers give you "power at the crank" numbers... typical drivetrain loss is around 15% so for this to be putting down 776hp on the Dyno that is: 776 * 1.15 (+15%) = 892.4... or just a hairs breaths shy of *900 crank HP*
    Jeeeeeeesus...

    • @serturbo
      @serturbo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Incorrect. Your calculation would result in roughly 13% power loss. Increasing wheel hp by 15% is not the same as decreasing crank hp by 15%. You need to divide wheel hp by 0.85. It's simple algebra. Wheel hp = Crank hp * 0.85. Divide both sides by 0.85. Crank hp = Wheel hp / 0.85.

    • @rkalla

    • @AmericanZ28
      @AmericanZ28 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The math is off here. You should be subtracting 15% from the crank horsepower, not adding 15% to the wheel horsepower. That is 776.11/0.85= *913 Crank HP* A 13% drivetrain loss would equal 892.4HP at the Crank!
      I think the drivetrain loss is closer to 10%, which still puts this Demon at 862 Crank Horsepower and still well over the rated amount.

      BDOG JR you see what they must of done was add the whp number they got to the chp number they got and divine it by 2. That way you don't disappoint them peeps at the dyno too much or impress them peeps using a more direct hp measuring method too much. You get the best of both worlds all car companies should do this.

  • @alyousuf
    @alyousuf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Unless you put the motor on an engine dyno trying to add back an arbitrary percentage to guess the crank power is as useless as it sounds. Some dynos can measure the amount of drag in the drivetrain after you let off the gas to estimate the crank HP, which is somewhat reliable as well.

    • @Demonology
      @Demonology  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mohamad Al Yousuf thank you for input. I know numbers can be off, so I dynoed both cars on the same dyno to give me a base on the difference between them in power. Now to the Drag strip to see how they both compare in a race.

    Great vid and info. My only suggestion less music while people are talking or when the Demon is rumbling. Music should be kept to intros outros & dead air. For muscle car enthusiasts it grinds our gears to have the beautiful v8 sound drowned out or interfered by music. Great work on your content and video transitions!

    Not to take anything away from your dyno results as I love the new Demon and wish like hell I could afford one but looking at the charts I noticed the results were STD-corrected and not
    SAE-corrected. Just stating that SAE gives more accurate #'s than STD, which is usually inflated. Have fun with that beast and enjoy!!!

  • @LawrenceMarkFearon
    @LawrenceMarkFearon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes! Actual proven results. Dodge has underrated this car's max power.
    On a cooler days, it's truly rated at about 900 horsepower.
    They can still turn it up even more, to hold the title. Can you imagine it tuned for E85?

  • @Red2l16v

    To do 15% loss you take the rwhp number and divide by .85 since it is 85% of the total. That put the power around 913HP at the engine. 776/840 shows about 7.5% below rated power. That,is performing very well. Good job Dodge.

  • @michaelking1869
    @michaelking1869 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for posting up the numbers. A dyno video doesn't need to be over 15 minutes long though... The power put down is excellent. The dyno guy still hasn't figured out I'm guessing that you don't have a percentage loss. The loss is a solid number. The Demon drivetrain will be around a 70-85hp loss with only a minor change as power goes up from friction. Even as a GM guy I certainly respect what this car was built for. By the end of this spring there should be a hand full of high/mid 9 second stock Demons.

      I'm sure you hear it a lot, but beautiful car man. You're very lucky to be one of the owners of a Demon. Thank you for your updates. I hope you get track time soon. Because you're a Demon owner I'm curious if you can answer a question for me. I see a lot running at the track on the stock tires. Can you order another set of Nitto's with the Demon logo on them or are you screwed once they are worn down. I would start with a fresh set of NT-05R's if you can't get another set with the Demon logo and put them away wrapped in plastic. The haters just don't see how special a car like this is.

    • @Demonology
      @Demonology  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Nitto tires with the Demon face logo are only sold at the Dodge Dealerships. The next set of that I'm putting on the Demon are Mickey Thompson drag radials because I found they are much stickier than the Nittos on my Hellcat.

    • @michaelking1869
      @michaelking1869 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the test I've done and my customers have done the Nitto's will hook as good as the Mickey's, but require a lot more heat to do the same job. The Mickey's will wear a bit quicker, but have a lot more hook up without the heat. The logo is pretty cool still. I really like that so much of that car is Demon specific. Thank you for that answer though as it is one that I've been quite curious about.

      Classic Reaction that raise my heart there for a second too and this video really explains why Dodge said earlier that you can turn this car into any monster that you want. Plus I like how they said you can add any boost to the engine to push 1,000 plus HP

  • @Concern_Citizen
    @Concern_Citizen 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    A SRT Representative once told me to use 20% drivetrain loss on cars and 25% drivetrain loss on the Jeeps. When you subtract the stock 704.05 from 840 advertise HP, it represent 19.4% drivetrain loss.
    My stock 2014 Jeep SRT dynoed at 354.38, which represented a 24.6% drivetrain loss.
    Add that 19.4% drivetrain loss to the Demon 776.11 Dyno number and you should get Crankshaft HP Rating of 926.67

    His math is wrong, assuming 15% loss you would not multiply by 1.15, you would divide by 0.85. Which would mean around 913HP. When you take out a percentage from something you multiply by the reduced factor, in this case 0.85, then to reverse the loss you would divide by the same number.

    • @6977warrior1
      @6977warrior1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thre89- I noticed his math was wrong also as soon as he multiplied by 1.15. I hope he reads your post to understand how to get the correct crank HP. I'm quite surprised how many guys here were fooled by the math. Actually as I read some other older posts, a few guys did mention the correct math. 913 HP is awesome.

    Very nice. I've raced my Vette against a Hellcat, but I have not yet been able to find a Demon to run. Realistically, since I do NOT have a drag suspension, I expect the Demon to beat me off the line, of course. The question is whether I can reel it in with only 1/4 mile. From a roll, which would significantly reduce or eliminate the traction issues, I should be able to beat it.

      Corey I live the shaker so much. Before I purchased my Hellcat, I had a 2015 392 because I couldn't find a shaker for sale. I would love to meet you and see your shaker.

    Did you run the pump gas through it with the 109 for a few fill-ups to get all of the mixed 93/109 out of it and actually run straight high octane? Not criticising, just genuinely curious.

    Nice video but the air filter differences are probably like a 170 thermostat vs 160 thermostat you know. Is it gonna change something slightly yeah, is it going to be remotely noticeable at all, probably not. A great air filter to a great air filter

    There is no rule of thumb for drivetrain loss. And that is engine numbers with power train loss. The true power and torque numbers to the ground is well into the thousands.

    Idk about the 15% loss, should be more like 18-20% loss if the transmission is high efficient like the guy says. Since normal is 22-25% loss for a automatic

    Your one lucky man... I know deep down it’s not as much luck as it is just old fashioned hard work. I run a small cleaning company and work very hard and I’m also a 100% full time father as of Jan 2017. And being a father and being true to my priorities, I just couldn’t pull off the purchase of this car and it really really breaks my heart because this is by far the most gorgeous car in the WORLD. I wanted one so bad in the exact color you got, I feel almost forced to get one knowing what’s is to come in the future for muscle cars. I just really hope finances will allow me to atleast get a low mileage Hellcat before it’s to late. But as always little one and a roof over our heads will always come first :/ .... sorry about the rant it just hurt to not have something of this caliber when I did everything in my power and will to pull it off. Beautiful beautiful car tho sir, you have taste.
