    Well... it CAN do it. Under optimal optimal conditions. In real life, these times are basically unachievable

    • @zsavage1820
      @zsavage1820 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Demon has to have a min. 100 octane fuel and ECU tune and a prepped surface to hit anything close to what dodge brags about.. I'd rather go with the Cobra Jet any day.. right off show room floor to strip.. BOOM bye bye Demon or any other Fiat... I mean dodge...

  • @jacelysinger6206
    @jacelysinger6206 7 ปีที่แล้ว +100

    So basically the only way this 1/4 mile time is achieved is with above average track conditions, doubtful anyone will actually see these figures,

    Here's what you need to run that number:
    A factory team to keep the car perfect.
    A professional Top Fuel driver with hundreds of runs in the car.
    Low altitude and cool air.
    A track that's been prepped specifically for the car.
    That being said, even if the "real" number for the Demon is mid-10's, it's still damned good for a production car.

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a nice number alright. Unfortunately, it's a whole second lower than what most will ever see.
      What's really interesting about the Demon run, is that the altitude density, got so low, it's a number few tracks will ever see, even over more than a decade. i can't remember the density altitude, but it was extreme.

      Leah Prichett weighs 118 pounds.The seats were out of the car and it was not done on Nittos that the car comes with.No one has ran in the 9.6s .And thousands of runs have been done in the past two years.Usually someone always manages to beat the original factory time.Not this time.No one running 140 mph trap speed in a stock Demon either.Top fuel driver has nothing to do with it.Its an automatic car,it either hooks up or it doesnt then you keep it floored and hang on.Again the driver they used weighs 118 pounds.No back seat ,no passenger seat,aftermarket drag radials not the Nittos.

  • @MendicantBias1
    @MendicantBias1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Most production cars are not traction limited like the Demon. Just because it uses a prepped surface doesn't mean other vehicles would come close to its 9 second run on the same track. But complain away...

  • @MikeyB-Rod
    @MikeyB-Rod 7 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    You guys in the comments act like Dodge is the only one making sure the track is prepped good for their testing... People who bought Demons will have a chance to run a tip top prepped track. At every track, every weekend? No. But to say nobody is gonna hit the times is silly. You're gonna see better times, it always happens.

    • @TonioXenon
      @TonioXenon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They spent DAYS prepping the track from end to end with 2x more compound than a top fuel dragster. They also went through multiple sets of new slicks. Whos gonna do that? They will spend that same money on the car to make it even faster but NOBODY will come close to this time in a stock Demon. There simply isnt enough grip!

    • @MikeyB-Rod
      @MikeyB-Rod 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Multiple sets of slicks? Really?

    • @TonioXenon
      @TonioXenon 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Barrett let me say it 1 last time as stated in the video. They spent DAYS making HUNDREDS of passes to set this record time on a track with extremely excessive prepping.

    • @MikeyB-Rod
      @MikeyB-Rod 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1 last time? You're acting like we've had some long debate. You said multiple sets of slicks. They ran the car with drag radials..... Capitalizing words doesnt make them any more effective. Relax. Comparing the prep for top fuel cars and something running radials is asinine. They're running completely different tires, and are a completely different chassis technology. My original comment holds true, all manufactures prep tracks this way for flagship cars. Get your head out of your ass.

    • @MikeyB-Rod
      @MikeyB-Rod 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I mean, how much drag racing do you do at big tracks/events? Do you think they dont get prepped in the same manor for big radial events?

  • @mikelugo848

    So is it safe to say that the average person without this exorbitant preparation will be lucky to do a 10.50

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's the thing. I talked to a guy who's been down the track in the Demon a fair amount now. He's actually a very skilled amateur and he know what he's doing. He runs a pretty "mild" street/strip 68 Camaro with 700 hp in the mid to low 9's. His best time in a Demon is 10.40 which I witnessed. He ran a 60 foot time in about 1.46. That's a properly fast 60 foot for that car.
      I don't care how much weight they've taken out, it's still a huge heavy barge.

    This is always a joke to me . The car runs only if......... Then you hear "Its a street car man that runs this fast" Then when you say "Look , Ford built the CJ cars for doing this the right way and they hook. Then you hear , "But this is a production street car man!!!"
    Well in the street you can take a Dodge guys money pretty easy because that IRS car on a no prep real world surface , you know IN THE STREET !!! IS going to wheel hop , break parts , not hook...... The guy says it right there , the dodge needs a level of prep above top fuel cars... All that tells you is how bad the suspension works.....
    NO Prep for this kind of thing , REAL WORLD for this kind of thing. All makes and models...
    Of course if you fly paper the thing its going to run the numbers. That isnt what a race car is about. A race car is about many systems all working together to create an ET. Suspension being a major factor... Dodge said To hell with that , just bond it to the track and we will skip over that part....
    After taking all our tax dollars I would expect better....

  • @UtahBigfoothunter
    @UtahBigfoothunter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The fact of the matter is that 9 second ET's are already happening with the Demon and has even happened without drag radials. The Demon is still too young yet, give it time and you'll see even better times.

      You would be able to get in the 9's with this car. You would have to get the full package deal for the car and I know, the person who set the time was a professional driver but, a regular person could still rip off a 9.90 or a 10 flat.

    The reason this is done is to test that "if" a car was to hook up to the absolute max, they can see what parts are stressed or that break. They are trying to create the most crazy possibility that if customers where to completely hook up pass after pass, how does the system hold up. Pretty cool stuff they allowed us to see this and post this for all of us.

    • @TonioXenon
      @TonioXenon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The 427 SOHC Galaxie from the 60s that made close to 700 horses would be almost as fast, it's road legal and did 1/4 mile in just under 10 seconds. That just proves 50 year old basic engines with no electronics can keep up with 2017 advanced engine with fuel injection and all that.

    • @JusttheEdge
      @JusttheEdge 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      An engine designed for Nascar and never installed in a factory car by Ford. It wasn't very basic either compared to the 427 fe it was based on. Ford did make lightweight galaxies with partial fiberglass bodies. At 425lbs lighter and with the 425hp+ 427fe they could only muster low 12s. I would like to see proof of a 427 cammer galaxie running 9s "stock" if there is such a thing. Now if you take the sub 3500lb lightweight galaxie add the possibly uderrated 650hp Sohc that would get you some mid to low 10s. That was never a stock production car. I wouldn't even consider the lightweight galaxies production cars only 200 were made.

    I'm not hating, I just feel $95,000 for a car that goes 9.650 @ 140.09 down the Quarter. My $12,000 Corvette is actually very close to this and I'm only pushing 612HP before I added a High rise intake manifold, Meth injection, bigger fuel rails and a smaller pulley on the Supercharger, once Dyno tuned it's expected to be around 700HP so with that, the weight of my car without me in it and small tire slicks, I should either be close or beat the new Demon, again, not hating as I love this car. I see for $95K a car that I could only drag race at a strip but not in most good Competitions as it'' be banned from it for one reason or another and I heard the handling on turns isn't good nor recommended. My Corvette is a 1998 and it was designed for course racing so basically the Demon is only to say you have one. Unless I'm missing something? What does everybody else think or know that I don't?
    I'm ignoring dumb replies that are trash talking me as I'm here to learn something new and not from Kindergarten so if you are on that level and can't spell or create sentences properly then please reply to someone else's comment with your childish crap that nobody seems to care about. I owned a 99 FRC Corvette, 88 rx7 se LS1 swap and know LS1's pretty damn good. Mechanic since 06, cammed a handful of LS cars for other people. Yes you can get c5s for dirt cheap. It takes a lot to do 9.65. A friend had a d1sc supercharged 01 z06 (built motor, boltons, e85, bigger intercooler etc) 810rwhp and couldn't crack 9s, but his mph was 142...so he very well could if he dialed the setup in.
      The mods you listed are stupid IMO. Why on Earth would you do a high rise? You need a hood if you do...plus it's not worth it unless you're going for 1k+.... If I were you, I'd do e85 , injectors , smaller pulley, fuel pump/s, front mount intercooler, probably a boost a pump. The stock fuel rails can do mid 800hp with e85. You can use ls3 rails too. LS bottom ends are good to around 700hp stock. Big tire is going to help a ton...I had Nitto NT01R drag radial 315s on knock off c4 zr-1 wheels and they performed like the Mickey drag radials.
      So yeah not hating, hope you learn from my experience in and around LS cars and Corvettes. LS1tech and Corvetteforum are great sites to be on, and learn from other people's setups or things they've done/tried. After owning my car I could never own a regular coupe. They just feel like 2 different cars, even with the magnetic ride set to performance in the coupe. The 10% stiffer body and z51 suspension is night and day in the FRC, and even better with the z06. Oh and mine weighed in at 3040 with a 1/4 tank.

  • @ssstttyyy

    So basically no one will ever achieve 9.65 unless the track is prepared just for you. After all those runs, and they never show the time.

      double lynx But they show the time cards .. if you've ever run yourself you'll have some too .. every run is different, and of course you're always trying to fine tune things to go faster .. exactly what they're showing here, quite openly .. they also show the world record notification from the Guinness Book Of Records .. but they've achieved much longer wheelies without the record setting requirements in place, so chances are they've run faster than 9.65 .. I imagine sub 9.5 .. I've been present at a Guinness World Record setting event myself .. there are a lot of requirements .. and in that case there was actually a representative from The Guinness Book Of Records present .. I think this is an awesome video .. and I've been the proud owner of two Mopars .. I'd love to own a Demon .. to finish on a cheerful note, what's the fastest 1/4 ever? Look it up for yourself but I will say it was set back in the 1970s .. by a girl called Kitty .. sub 3.5 at over 600 km/h exit speed .. WOW !!! ✌

    I haven't seen a car spin enough where your finding 4-6tenths from what most are running. They're over playing the shit out of the track prep. Maybe they can bs people who don't race or never walked on a track before, but that's about it. Yes there's bad tracks everywhere but come on. Most tracks are good where your shoe will stick. Like someone else said maybe 1 of 5 guys for Dodge that's about it. Last the wheel lift. From 6in to 10ft come on. I believe the car tested ran the times. I don't believe that's the car people are getting. It has more power or it's lighter. Something is different. I've seen modified demons already with the crate of course, after market exhaust, injectors, on E85 better tuning software and tires only run 9.90's. The car hooked and went 1.40's 60ft 139-140mph. The rest I seen that are stock only run anywhere from 10.0-10.40's. I like the car. I'm not hating on it. I'm hating how dodge went about this. If people buy the car and it hooks after a little seat time there's no reason they shouldn't be running 9.80's unless they are a really heavy person. I know some are thinking it's only a few tenths. Well as anyone who runs 10s or faster and the faster you go the harder it gets 1 tenth is very hard to come by. Oh well that's my rant

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seeing that a Z06 has a power to weight ratio that is pretty close to that of the Demon, there's a reason why they easily run in the mid to low 10's stock. A Z06 could probably run a 9.8X in the best of conditions as the weight bias is far better for holeshot and the aero will matter in the last 500 feet.

    There's no secret to its numbers. And it's numbers "do not app,y to production car records. Because it's not a regular production car, it's extreme limited production. Using race gas octanes from 102-110, on a very highly prepped track (rented by MoPar), on a series of very cold (33-37* F), nights in way back in November 2016, in a totally stripped interior, just one seat, and two warning chimes, with drag pack kit on dropping 240 lbs, hmmm, there's o secret to that. Or that the "special NITTO rear drag tires", are actually NITTO slicks that had a little tread cut into them. I've been to the testing (late 2016), before sales launch in May 2017... With all the above information, one can not call it the quickest and fastest production car. Infact, the MoPar Engineers invited us (myself and a friend), that works high up the corporate chain at FCA, back to the track the next day to see some real world, street trim, full interior, 4 factory Oem tires, on factory ECU on 93 octane (808hp), in temps around 59 degrees, DA still over -1300 below sealevel (every 1000 ft below sealevel equals about 30 free hp, low DA adds free hp), these same (3 car's), Demons could not run quicker in the 0-60 mph: 4.4 sec and 1/4: 10.7 sec and no faster than 130mph.. the average of 10 runs was 10.96 sec at 129.1 mph. So on the street, a lot of cars would beat the tar out of the Demon. Especially in 0-60 or 0-80 mph contests. The Hellcats run about 4.5 to 4.6 sec 0-60 on the street. I know this because my neighbor, "a professed magazine racer", because he thinks the car's we buy are as quick as the ones the magazines Test and I told him excellent street drivers can't get to within a 1/4 of a sec and a few mph of the best expert professional drivers, he said he could, in his new Hellcat. So he bet me $500 he could take any other high hp domestic iron. I told him I'd go rent a mustang gt and beat him in the 0-60 and possibly the 0-80. He LOL'd for 15 minutes. Till I came back with a gt convertible. Guess what, he was not LoL, when I beat him 5 for 5 in 0-60, and barely 3 of 5 runs in the 0-80. He barely edged me out by about two feet in last two runs.

      I've only seen one Demon at a track go below 10. Here's what's really interesting. I had a tape measure in my pocket, and politely asked if I could measure the top pulley of the engine which looked very small - not to mention color anodized in a non-factory color, as the owner was showing off the engine and claiming completely stock setup. While everybody standing around the car had their hands all over it which the owner did not mind, he got really flustered about that question and promptly shut the hood. Now, how many of those Demons running the tracks do you think have been tinkered with, one way or the other? Look it up. Many already mod them. My guess is that it has to do with the fact that they don't like the idea of taking them to the track, and run high 10's. I spoke to another owner, who is actually a talented and seasoned drag racer, and he told me it was very hard to get it into the 10.4's. This is a guy who can run a 700hp street/strip 68 Camaro in the mid to low 9's, so he's good at what he does.

      I'll tend to agree that this is a bit of a shafting, as it is very much been marketed as something everyone can do.
      That being said, it is still reminiscent of the Nordschleife times set by manufactures. Yes, you can purchase a Performante or Z06, and it is indeed a very capable car. But few people in the world can run the same time. The main difference is that the manufactures who go run the ring, don't try to tell the general public that the average enthusiast can run his or her car that fast.
