When I travel the world, sometimes I return home with much more than a souvenir t-shirt or a coffee cup -- sometimes I return inspired by things I've seen and places I've visited. I get ideas about how I'd like to bring the best of the places I've visited back to my riverside cabin in the Pacific Northwest.
Over the last year one of those ideas seemed to be a recurring theme -- hot soaking pools and outdoor showers -- that I saw and experienced in places like the Aleyeska Nordic Spa (Girdwood, Alaska), Camp Olowalu (Maui, Hawaii), the Azores hot springs pools (Terra Nostra Park, Furnas, Azores), and several Japanese onset throughout that beautiful country.
Hot water is relaxing and calming, especially in a natural setting. In this video I show the steps I took to build my own hot water soaking tub on my property in the PNW. While my channel isn't really known for DIY content, I hope my "inspired by travel" build helps you as you create your own backyard oasis.
Let me know in the comments below how your build went, and if you have any suggestions for other hot soak builders.

I'm inspired too! Instead of hot girl summer I'm going to have a hot tank summer.

This is an AMAZING built!!! Exactly what I have been looking for. Do you drain your tub after every use? I feel like I would be wasting so much water but want the water to be "safe" to be in too!

@@hmmm1200_YT Good morning! Yes, I do drain it after every use since I don’t use any chemicals or stabilizers in it. My tub is on a bit of a slope, so I’ve hooked my drain hose to a little drip system to water my newly planted grape vines. I live in the Pacific Northwest so we do have quite a bit of water everywhere, but I imagine in some regions the water usage is a much bigger issue. I looked up the average 10 minute shower water usage - it’s around 25 gallons - so it’s almost the same consumption as a little longer shower. After your build, I’d love to hear how it went for you. Thanks for your comment and your question. :)
