First thing I did was painted the bottom (underside) with epoxy two part paint after sanding. Then sand the inside after you get your holes in, file the hole because of sharp edges, then paint with the epoxy paint.

Not unless you sit with your knees pulled up to your chest like a sitting fetal position. Six foot is too small for even two adults to stretch out. Two floats won’t fit.

We used a pressure-treated cedar wood (like the kind you use for a privacy fence). I've linked it above if you want to check it out. It's holding up well with the liquid nails, but I've had to reattach a few pieces - they came unglued in areas where water is splashed out and the sun hits every day. Otherwise they're holding up great!
not sure if u mentioned this in the video, but did u not end up sealing the wood in some way? im wondering how long the wood will stay good for being outside and moist all the time

Hahahaha your husband Kevin was checking to see if you are "level headed".... Hey I did the same thing, but with a Rubbermaid stock tank, 100 gallon, got at a junk shop for $35! Thumbs up!
When you do a project, the 'mushroom' or 'snowball' effect will always happen. The project will turn from simple to complicated less than overnight. It is why the No.1, most important, factor needed for DIY is -- patience. The No. 2, needed, factor is -- money. When you think you know what your budget and time will be, triple it at the very least. But hey, I look at it as the one time off. It's not like you are going to be doing this many times over. Get it done the one time, then nothing but enjoyment after that. As far as the money, well you can not take it with you when you die and, compare this to the cost of a real pool which can run you into 10's of thousands of dollars. I, personally, always go the DIY route because of 2 main reasons. 1) I get sheer enjoyment knowing I did it myself because I am fiercely independent to a fault. 2) It makes my skin crawl to hear: ... "Why do you want that? This is what you really need". So, my husband has sworn that when I die, he will put on my headstone "Death, how hard can it be?!" Because that is my attitude about all DIY projects -- how hard can it be?

I like the look of the wood surround. A lot of people use two long straps (similar to seat belt material) to wrap around and secure the planks. The straps add a nice accent, too.
I thought that was a spa i so dont have the room for that but its cool.

I seen another video of how much it all costs to do this & i'd rather buy a 4 foot pool at walmart for less price&save money! good idea though for some people

We're debating between getting a 6' or an 8' and my only big question is this: do you have enough room to lay on a floaty in your 6'? Or is it mostly for sitting and cocktail sipping?

Just curious if the water gets hot during the day being a galvanized tank?
It does get warm... the hottest it's ever been is about 90 but the tank itself doesn't actually get hot - it's just the water. But we can always cool it down by adding more water.

I got my stock tank 3yrs ago 8ft was 200 now it's 550 a Tractor Supply company. That's a big jump in price to me

We got a 6-foot tank! I don't remember how many planks of wood we used... I know we did the math of about how many we needed but ended up making a second trip back to Home Depot for more wood. Thanks for watching!

How much was the stock tank? I priced them at our Lowes, $500! I could buy a pool at Walmart for alot less .
I don't remember *exactly* how much the stock tank cost, but I want to say $450 - $500. Prices do vary from retailer to retailer. You can probably get a cheaper pool at Walmart, but it probably won't look as cool as a stock tank pool, nor will you have the fun/memories putting it together. 😉
Walmart pools are kiddy pools made to throw away after a couple of years.

Hi, does the pump come with the inlet parts? I haven't purchased the pump yet but went ahead and bought a water jet kit which came with an outlet, plunge valve and what is supposed to be the inlet but the part that comes out of the tank that your supposed to attach to the hose doesn't have anything to screw on a nut to tight it to it. Any suggestions?
Hi Monica! The pump comes with the pump itself, the two hoses with clamps, one inlet fitting and a filter. I'm not sure what water jet kit you purchased, but they typically come with everything you need, including the washer that attaches to the outside of the inlet part. Maybe check out the accessory kit that I have linked above, and see if that has the part you need. Another suggestion I have is to just search for the washer/nut you need and solely purchase that part. Hope this helps!

Yes - the wood is staying attached! In the three summers that we've had the pool, only one board has come off.

This is great work and you deserve all the praise in the world.But i am wondering for about the same total price you paid for this, could you not have gotten a pre made Intex or Coleman pool in a larger size?
Hi Louis! Thank you for the compliments. Short story - yes. We could've gotten an Intex/Coleman pool in a larger size. However, that's not what we wanted to do. It's the novelty of having something like this in your backyard vs. a plastic, cheap-looking pool. Additionally, it was such a joy building something like this together.

How much do stock tanks cost? Nice job!
I think it depends on where you get it from and what size. I've heard they range from $300-$500. Like I mentioned in the video, we got a great deal on ours and it was less than $300.
I noticed you caulked the inside. What type did you use and have you had any problems?
We used the GE Paintable Silicone Supreme Window and Door Caulk (shopstyle.it/l/bjT5H). It's been working great and haven't had any problems!
