📚 Description: Today we are going to make sense of the Gibson Les Paul Widows. About a year ago, when I saw a Widow for sale, I thought "cool - a colored Les Paul" but then I wanted to know their full history. These started in 2009 as a Sam Ash exclusive run called the Black Widow. From there, Gibson did a run in 2012 in 5 colors with rosewood fretboards. They have been available since as custom orders/limited runs with richlite fretboards. In 2020, Gibson brought back ebony fretboards and birthed the 4th generation of widow! However, today, I came across a rare, pre-production run purple widow birthed in 2010! Let's discuss this topic in detail and take a look at some great beauty shots!

mark friedem Widows only pop up here and there. I watch reverb every day so I can’t miss them. You won’t always find the color you want but when you do you’ll have to snag it, usually for a heafty price

Black w/red binding, pickup rings, pickguard, split diamond, Gibson logo, switch tip, jack plate, rectangular inlays, & numbers in black speed knobs. Also black bridge, tailpiece, & tuners, unless they can anodize them in red. Black uncovered humbuckers.
I have a thing for black widows. By that I mean, the actual spiders.
If they ever made a black and red one lefty, it's probably the only Gibson I would ever buy.

That's like saying you could have decided what hand you write with and would be able to naturally be better at it just because you decided to be.
Yes, many have forced them self to play the other way, but that doesn't mean they are better off for it.
They may have even been great players eventually, but you can never reach the same potential biomechanically by forcing your body to do it the opposite way it wanted to.

Those '57 classics sound amazing. For me all the widow series guitars look good, especially the red & blue widows. I know the orange widow looks more striking but to me the sound is everything. Gibson really do have the best looking guitar tops too!
These are hella cool. A grey widow would be the coolest IMO. Silverburst finish with the grey binding and headstock inlays.

Wow. The orange one is a li'l heartbreaker. I could seriously cry. I'm normally an Ibanez player, but I'm absolutely head-over-heels for the Widow series. Since Trogly said you can custom order them, I'm wondering if that would include the Made-to-Measure program. I'd love for my first Gibson to be a Widow built for my play style; maybe 16" slim-taper neck with the 57 classic/plus combo.

Don’t know why, I’d buy this one, scrape the binding and just love the finish. I’d have to scrape the logos on headstock too. That finish on the top though is just amazing looking. Never imagined orange burst would look that good

I wish the Purple one had the same multi-ply binding like the Orange one had on the front and back. It might even be cool if they gave the Purple one a neon blue binding. Both guitars as is are amazing.

I like all the Widow colors, but especially the orange one. I like the way the color of the head stock and body unify the look. The Gibson logo and inlays never looked so good. Thanks

That orange one is really done well, would love to have one. The purple one for me, does not do the widow line justice in terms of aesthetics.
Since epiphone is doing the inspired by gibson lineup. It would be nice to see them introduce a widow series.

the binding on my LP is damn near that orange haha not quite tho, I do enjoy these orange widows more than the rest of the colors
