    I basically get the same figures here in Finland at 30°C, when limited to 80kmh on Helsinki ring roads, I typically get to the office at 13-14kWh/100km :) thanks Chris for the video ..

    Impressive distance. Looking forward to the "real life" 130 km/h range test. Thank you for doing these tests, they are showing us how it really is (and not what the data on the manufacturer says)

      What is your range on highway at around 110kmph?
      I live in Sweden and am torn between Tesla m3 and this car

      @@AzizIzgin So I just finished my trip a couple of weeks ago. I have a 1st edition, rear-wheel drive, single motor and collected data on this trip. Going from my home to Chicago I limited my speed to 65mph or 104 kph and got 3.8mi/kWh which on a full charge would be around 290 miles of range. Going from Chicago to Springfield IL I drove at the posted 70mph or 113kph and got around 261 miles of range (3.4mi/kWh). Please recognize that I am not taking wind, temp or terrain info here, though it’s a relatively flat drive in the Midwest. When I made my decision to get a iD4 instead of the TM3 i considered the following: The iD4 was cheaper, felt more solid and well-built, and had the cargo capacity that I wanted for my needs. I put less value in speed (there’s usually someone in front of me so going 0-60 in 2 seconds doesn’t matter to me), It would have cost me 15000$ more for the Tesla since got a gov’t grant for the iD but wouldn’t for the Tesla, and because the car blends in well and doesn’t stick out as an “electric car”. I also consider the ride of the iD4, turn radius and accessibility of support (maintenance etc) to be superior where I live to be superior. I also minimized the annoyance of the infotainment system since I expect that to get better with over-the-air updates. If money weren’t an issue, perhaps I would have taken a chance on the Tesla since I really love many things about them, but the difference in price was too much to overcome. Hope this helps!

    Great test Chris, perfect for the combined cycle test between city & hwy. Plus secondary roads/highways can also be lower speed limit than say the main highways. Such an amazing distance it did and perfect conditions, curious to know what you'd get in winter but suspect even 400km(est.) in winter is amazing with heating on.

    That’s awesome range Chris. Maybe interesting to test a Taycan at 90kph but I just cannot drive that speed. I think Bjørn got 580km with the 19” wheels.

    Great test and big win for VW! ID3 sales may be be disappointing but ID4 will sell thousands in North America & Europe

      @@seanholdom9739 Yes, but the Ioniq 5 is way more expensive, and the turning radius is just horrible. Consumption is a bit on the high side, too, in particular compared to the classic Ioniq electric and the Kona EV.
      Apart from that, yes, the Ioniq 5 is extremely good looking and has many great features.

      Somehow, I don't think Chris will be getting a test vehicle from Hyundai themselves - just my opinion. Hyundai, where are the details on the coolant leak on the Ioniq 5??

      Quiet but not etron level. Suspension can be set from Comfort to sport.
      It is very comfortable, but never really sporty.

    first time a consumer complains that he hopes the range will not be that good ... times are changing considering 10 years ago tesla had simply delivered not more than 1500 roadster which had a really poor range back then.

      Well, Chris’ “complaining” just goes to show that the range of current EVs would be enough for most users. Unfortunately, our fossil fuel polluted minds tell us that we need yet more range 😅

      @@CaroAbebe it always depends. We are partly going back cause EV on long distance are expensive: hours and money wise since the highway and High Speed charger prices are exploding last 2 years.
      We sold Tesla Model S and are back to Mercedes Diesel, we use EVs only for trips within battery range . We charge at home via solar roof and have 6 cars for 5 persons. We have reduced the EV to 3. Makes No sense to go further cause we also need at least 2 tow hooks and WE need a Car that can drive 4 h fast or above 150 - 200 km / h
      And without the Grants we would have 1 or 2 EV only.

    90km/h (56mph) would get me run over on North American highways. I've seen many reviewers mention that the A/C in the ID.4 gets really cold. I wish the Electrify America charging stations would show that level of detail on the screen while charging. Hope that VW does a software update that will show kW charging speed on the vehicle's display.

    I’m still looking forward to the ID Buzz. I’m hoping that the smallest battery version will give me around 375km at 120kph with some hills and at 5 degrees. Also charging at 150kW. What do people think my chances are?

      I think if you subtract around 10% of your expectations you won't be disappointed.

      @@davidsommen1324 what i learned about driving an EV since 2019 is take wltp * 0,7... i should say this is pure "travel guestimate". it's recommended to charge between 10-80% rendering 30% useless and you only get 70% of useable range. of course driving only at city speeds increase the range by a lot compared to doing 100 km/h.
      an example is my 2017 i3 with a claimed range of 200 km according to my dealer. shouldn't have listened to him... 200*0,7=140 km. then i have some range left while hunting for chargers. i can though if planning way ahead do 170km and gun for a fast charger.
      same with the 2019 Leaf i had. Dealer said 220km but i got 160-170 km before looking for chargers (and that car charges slow as hell).
      what i ultimately learned is that i need 70 kWh, sub 50 kWh is useless for me. and living in an apartment with no possibility to charge in a cold Sweden doesn't help at all for the range.

    Which one would you choose between VW ID4 Pro and Volvo XC40 recharge extended range core?

      You should drive both and find out for yourself. My reason could be very different.
      Volvo you can have more power, better infotainment system
      VW is more comfortable and a dedicated EV platform.

    By fully spec'd do you mean it has the heat pump? Does the heat pump affect the cooling efficiency? I've no idea what they mean by "heat pump", for example, if you get it without one, does that mean it has no a/c?
    From 32 down to 22 it is a significant difference: most people would find it cold and it places a lot of burden on the a/c. Somehow 22 degrees with an a/c on feels a lot colder than being outside with the same temperature. Did you turn the a/c off when it got dark? If yes, at which point?
    Last, do you by any chance know the altitudes at the start and at the end of the journey so as to have some idea of the energy recovered/expended because of the altitude difference?

      Heat pump mainly helps the car use less energy for heating up when its cold outside. Heat pumps are (usually) not more efficient than air conditioning units when to comes to cooling.

      I only charged to 20% and went home. But I have a full charging video of the Id.3 Pro S, same battery.

      It means what it says. 1,2 kWh per hour are being used.

    Bicycles, ebikes and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel.
    Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing safe, protected bike lanes and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Ride to work, ride to school or ride for fun.

    What I really don't understand is how the ID4 matches the ID3 consumption...
    ID4 shares the same components, but it is heavier, bigger and more components included.
    Amazing...
    I am expecting VW to modify the missing things in ID3 to become efficient at the end.

      It does not match. Same test I had 129 Wh/km in my Id.3

    Individuals, politicians and corporations all need to do more to protect the planet from climate change.
    Stop using fossil fuels. Stop using pesticides, add solar energy to your home or business, buy an electric vehicle, eat more fruit and vegetables and less meat and dairy, plant a tree, recycle everything. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Donate to non profits fighting for a better future. Support and elect climate leaders. Every child should plant a tree, bush or flowers wiith a parent or teacher. It will help connect them to nature and the environment. .What kind of future do you want for your children and grandchildren ?

    When testing please only use normal, firstly most drivers won’t use eco unless they are eco minded because of the performance hit, second climate control are often limited or partially disabled some such as the i3 or e-golf disable air conditioning completely also when testing the cars in future, please tell use if it had a heat pump fitted as that has a lower energy consumption compared to resistive heaters by up to a 3rd especially in summer testing where heat pumps are most efficient

      Well, the ID cars don’t disable AC, nor have I noticed the car getting any hotter because of eco mode.
