    I wanna run again. In my teens I used to weigh 115 and run miles every week. My running time was 6:20 per mile. I have smoke for 20 years and now I’m over 220 pounds. I just quit smoking last week and I wanna run again but dam I don’t know where to start

      Go get back out there and run. You can do it! I've never ran a 6:20 ever that's flying! I think next week I'll do a video where I test my mile to see where I'm at. You should too and then work to get it lower and lower. Happy running!

      Lost my jaybirds after mowing once I think my dog moved them around the yard. Used the find your phones function which tells you a general area where your headphones may be. Took me 2 hours to find them. That general area basically told me it was in my house or yard. 😂

    This is encouraging. I used to run 6miles a day and I was 190 and I'm 5"6. Thats like a great weight for me. Now I'm 240 and I started running again, I'm doing 3 miles for now. The endurance is still there, hopefully some weight loss soon too lol. I'm really enjoying my runs, but even at 190, I never had that runner body. Thought I was the only one

    Good tips!
    When you are transitioning from walking to jogging, think in terms of a short step shuffle that minimizes impact. Look up chi running. Avoiding injuries should be a big priority. When something is hurting, stop running and start walking and see if it clears up. Keep your heart rate relatively low, even if it means mixing in a fair amount of walking. Look up MAF heart rate training.

    I'm a 250 lb weightlifter and starting to run again to improve my breathing and to try to lose about 40 lbs of excess body fat. I used to be a very good runner in my teens and early-20s and then again in my early-40s, but I can only run an 11:30 mile now (max) and can't run 2 miles yet at even 12:30-per-mile pace. I've started running after long layoffs many times over the years but this is the first time starting again at such a heavy weight. I found doing it every-other-day instead of every day helps as well as biking and hiking up hills for cross training on off days as it allows my joints and soft tissues to rest between runs. I also have always mixed sprint running days into my weekly runs over the decades where I only run short sprint repeats instead of distance. It really wakes up the leg muscles and provides much more range of motion than the slow jogging that is required when beginning a running program. It's a running-specific form of strength training. I also think it's wise to limit downhill running when overweight for the first few months.

I just feel like crap when I get over 240lbs even though I'm very strong (can seated military press 55lb dumbbells 15 times, incline bench 335x8, 250lbx20 cable triceps pushdowns, etc) since my cardio is awful due to my heart and lungs trying to feed 1/8th of a ton of mass. I can rip through an intense 45-minute full-body weight workout with my pulse averaging just 130 beats per minute, but my pulse hits 168-180 after a 1-mile run at 11-minute mile pace. My testing heart rate is 52 beats per minute, which indicates moderate-to-good cardio fitness.

I couldn't military press 55-lb dumbbells even once at 189 but at 250 I can do 15 reps. Just found your channel and wanted to thank you!
    I’ve always been a big guy with judo, wrestling and rugby in my background. Partially tore my right ACL, MCL and partially damaged my PCL in 2012 (all in the one accident!). Ended up losing lots of muscle and put on a severe amount of fat. After surgery, I was able to lose 44kg and was getting back into what I loved.
    However in 2018 I suffered a full ACL tear in the same leg and had to have quite an extensive surgery as I blew out lots of meniscus too.
    I’d finally gotten to the point where I had given up but have found a new love of walking/jogging. Put on 30kg this time but have successfully lost and kept off 20kg of it.
    I look forward to running and your video has definitely assured me that it is possible to make it happen.

    My biggest advise I tell every runner that's beginning it's not to run at anybody else's pace example when you're running in the a track and you have another runner go by you and beginning runners tend to feel like they have to keep up and all that's going to do is get you tired faster and quit and it will disencourage you for future runs so remember the only person you need to compete with is yourself one last tip don't live to eat eat to live hence eat smart

    Why am I getting shin splints and how can I avoid/prevent them??

    • @GokuRunner
      @GokuRunner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe shin splits are mainly due to form issues. Heelstriking was a big issue for me early on and my shins hurt all the time. Changed up my form to land underneath me and more midfoot to forefoot striking and bam no more shin splints. May not work for you but I did for me. Try running barefoot and see how your shins feel. Many shoes have a big drop which insures you are running with a heel strike. Hope you figure it out. Check out some of my other vids and subscribe if you'd like

    • @GokuRunner
      @GokuRunner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be heel striking due to your footwear. I'd suggest to try running barefoot on a soft surface and see if that causes the tightness to go away if so you may want to look into shoes with less of a heel to toe drop.

    • @ericedwards6276
      @ericedwards6276 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to properly stretch your ankle, feet, shin, and hip because tightness anywhere in that structure can go all the way down. I suggest a very thorough stretching routine or just pick up yoga which I recommend more. It could also be compartment syndrome which is very common. Google ways to deal with that. Also get the shoes like he is suggesting, it could be that simple, but everything else I suggested is still essential for longevity and true health. Good luck

    • @Tedthib
      @Tedthib 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the advice guys! Dr. said it's a mild case of compartment syndrome recommended some stretching to try. I also did video of myself and to my amazement I was heal striking. Is that gonna affect it all?

      I'd suggest you getting fitted at a running store and then purchasing there. If you buy one and don't like it they will let you exchange it for the other within a certain time period or mileage number. That being said I used to love my ASICS Kayanos I did a lot of running in them. Check out some of my other videos where I do 5ks all the way up to the ultra distance. Subscribe if you'd like
