I apologize, Ryan is a great guy and one hell of a bikepacker....@@OmniTierra
Your videos are always worth waiting for John, spectacular views and Mira by your side😁Wishing you both all the very best for 2024😊Snapped belt is not good but at least you have a spare, unlike Ryan who got caught without one😄
Ryan thinks belts are bulletproof. At least a chain can be repaired.
Thank you so much 😀
I am used to Ryan doing the talking and John being stoic. Guess this is John’s channel 😂❤🐶
No, guessing about it this is OmniTierra where Mira and I will showcase our adventure 🤗💕🐕
We loved traveling via mtb in the Copper Canyon about 15 years ago. Got to Batopilas from Creel. Your videos remind me I need to go back.
That is awesome!
Thanks for the share John. I traveled in the copper canyon visiting different tribes and providing supplies and aid to small villages here. Thanks for the video brings back fond memories 😊
Happy you enjoyed and got to take a ride down memory lane 🤗💕🐕
Muchas gracias, hermano!
* Thank you both for sharing!
🐶
Hi guys. Missed you. Great to hear from you again. Thanks for sharing this with us. What a cool adventure. Hi mira 👋
Our pleasure!
Good to see Mira and You John! Thanks for the great Views and bringing us along! Be Safe and Keep moving forward! OORAH Semper Fi and Can Do
Our pleasure!
I backpacked with a friend thru the copper canyon 30 years ago we did 300km in 2 weeks - got to creel on the train from chiuhaha. Got back on at el-divisadero - one of the great train rides in the world. Not an easy place to bike as we were going up and down all day, everyday and crossing the river many times. Enjoy this unique place - we hardly bumped into anyone at all in the entire 2 weeks.
That's why the Raramuri are there. It's a refuge from.the world.
Hope this brought back many good memories
What a way to start the new year - seeing you and Mira out and about!
John, thank you for the wonderful reportage. I did a route around the copper canyon, from Urique to Batopilas, about 7 years back, on an adventure motorcycle. I was the first person in 4 days, after bad flooding, to ride the route over the mountains. I came across a small landslide blocking my way. As I tried to build a ramp, a campesino and his son called out to ask if I needed help, and soon arrived to cut a tree out of my way. When I descended from the mountains and was approaching Batopilas, I came to a river, which to cross, I had to ride a flooded weir. While viewing a route, a young boy on a bicycle rode across the weir and offered to show me a safe way across. I have always been amazed how, in quiet rural areas in Mexico, when help is needed, it appears out of nowhere! I now spend more time on my bike packing bike, and intend to explore new places. you and Mira are inspirations. Have a wonderful adventure. Brent, Quadra Island, BC
Thanks for sharing your story Brent. You’ll be happy to know the is a bridge and a paved road into Batopilas. The rugged dirt track that you likely took is still really beautiful and rough 👌
Great work John and Mira!
Many thanks!
Well howdy. Nice to see you and Mira in your happy place. IDK. Me thinks you might skip the world and explore Mexico.
Just kidding. Maybe. "Plot Twist!!"
Cheers. 🌞🚴♀️🖖
Cheers.
A person could spend have a great time doing that.
Don't often see Gates belts breaking... looking forward to the explanation in the next episode... (and it had better be a good one!)
I ll try not to keep you waiting long for that answer 👍
So happy to see you and mira again, really miss you guys, have been to copper canyon on my adventure Motorcycle great place great scenery. Enjoy I'll be watching. SJ
Then you really know how special the place is.
OK now we have some action! The Grand Canyon of Mexico! i have been curious about his area also. looking forward to the series. I read that book many years back.
Hope you enjoy the rest of this portion of our journey 🤗💕🐕
Heyo John. Glad to see another vid, love to see this side of Mexico.
Beautiful country filled with beautiful souls
Happy New Year Mira & John 💯🙏🍀🛡🤗♥
Digging the beard John. Looks cool as 😎

Happy New Year John and of course Mira. Stay safe out there and enjoy the wonderful experience of bike packing in Mexico.
Happy new year!
Mira, Mira...Jhon is coming!
Great to see you and Mira on your adventures. Your spanish has gotten so good!!
Thank you! 😃
I loved it! The views were amazing and the people so beautiful but I would have to go with alot of money and a great big truck because I would buy all their arts and crafts. LOL :) :)
I totally agree!
Great video. Really liked the shots you got in the market.
Much appreciated!
John. Your video photography skills have excelerated since I last tuned in! Nice job. Great to see you and Mira are continuing to create friends everywhere you travel. And your Spanish is getting better too! Enjoy the journey and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the kind comments 🤗💕🐕
More please😂!
On its way
I've always been interested in seeing the Copper Canyon. It will be great seeing it through your lens and experiences. Best of luck and safe travels in 2024 ✌
You and me both!👍
Give Ryan A call to join you again he's very good at putting out videos in a consistent manner But non the less your videos are entertaining and put together well Be careful out there
Keep in mind I made no promises about anything to do with anything😜
@@OmniTierra ok
Another enjoyable adventure! I always worry when Mira gets close to the front wheel. Have you accidently bumped her?
She’s very quick and nibble. I have bumped her but it’s always in play at slow speeds 🤗💕🐕
Great video, John! at 6:45 there's some (I assume) local music. Can you share the artist?
This is licensed music through Artlist. Idan Balas, Eres Natural is this flamenco piece. ✌️Great to set tents up to 🤔
I thought that you , Greg and Victoria were gonna cruze together all the way down to Oaxaca.
Schedules didn’t match up when we were in Chihuahua. Also, we ride at very different speeds.🤪🐶✌️
I guess those belts break more often than the marketing team would have us believe 😂 at least the spare is pretty light. How old is Mira now and how far does she trot in a day?
To put it in context, that is the same belt that I used on the Tour Divide. Most people change their chain midway through that race. I have broken many chains, frames, wheels, handlebars and even a few hearts ❤️🩹over the years. I still trust the @carbondrive belts from @gates 🤘
Mira is 6 now. 🤗💕🐕
Haha! Heartbreaker!@@OmniTierra
I'm curious what kind of helmet liner/cap you're wearing and if you'd recommend it, or others? I've found some kind of helmet liner indispensable for extended riding, but quality varies a bit. Great video as usual, always good to see you and Mira out and about!
It’s just a Specialized cycling cap 🧢
John and Mira! Happy New Year!! Great to see you! The Copper Canyon looks beautiful! I’ve read about the people who live there and their extraordinary running abilities. Safe travels!
Same to you!
Hey John! Love your stuff - you two are certified legends! I have a similar pup, border/lab who is 42 pounds. Wondering if you've tried a 1 or 2 wheel trailer in tow for Mira, I see a lot of dogpacking setups with that. Do you see drawbacks to that method? A pro I see is being able to fully enclose if situations call for it - do you find that's never really the case?
Thank you!!
I use the single wheel trailer for several years in different parts of the world. Mainly, the set up is much more compact and built purpose for the trip that we are doing. Most people I think we will trailer is a great choice since you can use almost any bike. They work great in single track although you do need to be a little heads up when they’re unloaded because they will bounce quite a bit and don’t always track With the bike when the riding gets rowdy🤘💕🐕
Never had a need to enclose Mira.
How do you protect from sunburn ?
Sunscreen 🧴
What hub do you have? 12 internal gears sounds good.
I use a DT Swiss rear hub. To be clear, though the gears are being changed within the Pinion system, which is where a bottom bracket typically is. There are hubs that have gear systems in it but because I change wheels from time to time that is a costly, and Involved process.
So great - i agree with others - your videos are getting better every time. How lovely to see Mira again - and Mexico trails! Love this!
Thanks for the comment. We're trying
John and Mira, you need to learn a little about narratives in the age of the internet - you had some cliffhanger gold right there with the broken belt only to say you had a spare! Next time don’t mention the spare and also say you’re running dangerously low on both beans and kibbles and you’ve got viral success in the mail
Ya people really do use the click-bait tactics 😜. Thanks for watching the video anyway 🤗💕🐕
Hey John don't mean to bug but I saw you use something other than trekker poles. I have a trekker pole tent, can I ask what kind of poles you use to put up your tent? Thanks for your time and be safe out there.
The pools that I’m currently using are from @durston tents. There are other carbon fibre pools out there, but they’ve done a very good job of making a robust and adjustable, set of poles to work with their tents as well as many others. Based company that I’m happy to support.🇨🇦
@@OmniTierra thanks John I will look into them.
John , around how many miles or km did you get on that belt ?.. I'm asking because I'm thinking of getting a belt drive bicycle with pinion gearbox.
That belt had the Tour Divide and a bunch of other riding on it. I estimate about 8000km+ of some tough riding on it.
Nice👍👍👍.
John, Im kind of curious as to how you got to that region.? Greg, www.youtube.com/@GregMcCahon just rode to his partner's town inChihuahua and they had to bypass a significant area due to suspected cartel activity.
This link to our Strava should answer that question www.strava.com/athletes/19388039
Hey John! Love following your adventures! Is there a reason the maps aren't available in Strava? My husband and I are hoping to bike to Copper Canyon next month with our dog as well and are curious of the route you took.
So much obesity, so sad in that region -😢
Show me a country where that isn’t happening and I’ll show you a country that doesn’t have access to ultra processed food.
Can’t wait for the trio with Ryan, I like the way he videos you and Mira from a different perspective, like when Mira is jumping like a jack rabbit backwards in front of you
