Removing Steve Wright from his slot was one of the biggest mistakes the BBC has ever made in radio.

Sadly BBC Radio as a whole has become the shining example of just what bad management can do to an institution...& I would also imagine Wrighty's health would have suffered by the treatment from, as Danny Baker once described them, the pinheads & weasels running & ruining BBC Radio.

Loosing Steve Wright in the afternoon was the final straw for me, I had been a loyal listener for 43 yrs. So many bad decisions, so many great presenters lost as well as listeners. RIP Steve you really will be sadly missed. I actually feel I have lost a dear dear friend. ❤

There certainly wasn't any radio show quite like it before, certainly on this side of the pond. I was nodding in agreement at some of Gary and Tony's observations. It seemed to me back then that he was influenced by American radio and brought a flavour of that over here, with its marketing/polling trends and its emphasis on the big and the brash in the 80s - and that theme tune with the horn prominent in it. Yet he also put his own English quirky twist on it,and yes it always had that feel of a whole posse of characters being in the studio with him.

At sixty years of age I have had the fortune to listen to Two Truly Great disc jockeys - The first been John Peel because of his sheer love of music of all genres and his championing of bands that we would perhaps never have heard .
The second - Steve Wright because of the enthusiasm, lunacy, mayhem and sheer originality that pervaded every radio show he presented.

Gary Davis said it all ‘He lived for his afternoon show’. The BBC management should hang their heads in shame, you literally took a hugely talented and loved professional away from his life’s work, all in the name of Box Ticking and staying ‘Relevant’ despite the audience being more than happy with Steve and the comfort and security he gave to his listeners.
I’m disgusted with all the things that have come to light regarding the BBC over the last few years, and I believe that removing Steve from his show and his listeners was too much for him to take. Now after years of corruption, cover up’s, government biased journalism and blatant ‘box ticking’ this is the final straw for me. I will not be watching, listening or funding this disgusting national disgrace of broadcasting company.

They did the same to Jimmy Young many years ago- he was in his eighties, and I cried listening to his last show- he said I don't want to go, but they're making me retire!! The lady whose bathroom i was installing came in and asked if i was okay, i said no, Jimmy young's just ended his last show - she must have thought I was a bit soft - I still remember that day, I'm nearly 71 now, Jimmy died less than a year after the BBC sacked him, now Steve has gone too, another day I'll never forget until I die.Steve made me and millions of others feel good when he was on - the power of radio is awesome, but you must be careful when making decisions to replace icons like steve and ken bruce etc
