  • James Garner Brutally Described The Biggest Problem With Steve McQueen
James Garner and Steve McQueen shared the screen in The Great Escape, but behind the scenes, their dynamic was far from harmonious. Garner, known for his charm and steady professionalism, once summed up McQueen in a way that left no room for interpretation: "He wasn’t an actor. He was a poser." This sharp critique wasn’t just about McQueen’s acting-it pointed to deeper issues that defined his life and career.

I wonder how many men died chipping asbestos off of ships pipes below deck. I lost a good friend, in his fifties, that did that same thing and died of it. He told me it was like a fog when they did that. When he got the cancer, he didn't last long. It will lay dormant for a long time but when it starts you don't last long.

Brynner was always a bigger nightmare than McQueen. Garner's commitment to authenticity was genuine. He did his own stunts. It why they had to cancel the Rockford Files. He injured his back.

So apparently, you weren't 'paying attention'. None of this was to diminish McQueen's stature or 'Film Greatness'. It was a Myopic into Steve's 'side ( real) personalities and embattlements'. Garner clearly...was the 'Bigger' Man, and far more well-rounded' human being and Film Star. McQueen indeed, was.....well.... Legendary. and 'Great'. and 'all those accolades. But our narrator here points out that James didn't lower himself to the 'snot' personality and shitty antics...toward others, that McQueen apparently did. D- to you, for your oblivious above comment, merely talking about how 'Bitchin' Steve was....in your estimation. Pay Attention better next time.

James Garner's perspective really resonates. While McQueen was undoubtedly a huge star, his aloofness and tendency to push people away likely prevented him from forming lasting friendships in Hollywood. It's sad to think how his own personality sometimes stood in the way of his greatness.

I was always struck with the impression that McQueen's role in The Great Escape was contrived and jammed into the film as an afterthought. His side story didn’t really fit with the film and seemed separate from the actual story, and gave a very clear impression that it was done simply to give this guy screen time. And his character was an annoying joke. I’m a generation behind the McQueen era, so I wasn’t at all captivated by his supposed coolness. On the contrary, he has always seemed deeply insecure.

These videos are narrated by a robot or AI. That’s why they mispronounce words, names, etc. I don’t think they have personal opinions about the subject matter. Most likely it s the writer of the script. Both McQueen and Garner were gifted but different types. They both had a lot of baggage from their early life. RIP guys, you brought us a lot of joy.

As a Pallitative physician working in Hospice, I have observed hundreds of patients of different faiths in their last hours experiencing that magical blissful feeling of peace and unconditional love. From my experience, I think they are all feeling their own spirit, their soul as their ego-mind dissolves. From my observations, I am convinced we are all a fractal piece of the Creator and death is only of our corporeal form but our true spiritual selves are eternal. Religion for the most part is man-made but has its role in providing hope to people. Our true Power is within.

The cancer was caused by asbestos exposure from his time in the military, where he stripped asbestos from pipes in a ship's engine room, ultimately leading to the cause of the cancer..which was mesothelioma..
